processor power. i5? Quad core?

Hello, this question has been buggin me for awhile! When you buy a computer, the said processor is dual core, i3, i5, or i7. What do these numbers mean? An i7 will be also called a quad core or a core of six. And that, to me, does not make a lot of sense... yet.

Hi Tim,.

Double heart (meaning two) has two chips of treatment in the processor. Core quad (four) has four of them. All the carrots are on the same chip. Then, they share the same memory and the path of data in the motherboard. Thus, a chip image may be able to execute instructions four times faster than the dual core.

Intel i3, i5, and i7 processors first and second generation with represents divisions low-end, mid-range and high level of the nucleus, which is Prime Minister brand of Intel Corp. semiconductor company of consumer CPUs from mid-2011. As a result, three computer chips contain several notable differences. In addition, the Intel Core i7 has a subcategory called Extreme Edition performance based.

Core I7s are preferable to the Core i5s, who in turn are better than Core i3s. Nope, Core i7 does not seven to six hearts or Core i3 has three nuclei. The numbers are simply indicative of their relative processing powers.

Their relative level of processing power is also meant their side Star Intel processor based on a set of criteria involving their number of cores, clock (in GHz) speed, size of the cache, as well as some new Intel technologies.

Hope this information was useful.

When you buy a new PC, we choose between dual core vs quad core processors, and some people claim that Firefox work mode multithreaded mulch and treats each tab in a separate process and may fully use the advantage of a quad-core processor. Is this true?

Firefox does not treat each tab in a separate process. If this can be a function in the future, I don't know of any plans to introduce any time soon. Obviously, buying a quad core processor will be significantly faster than a dual core, and your browser is usually less consume a lot of resources than other programs. I would not use it as your buying decision. Firefox will work just as well on a dual-core or a quad-core, but windows and other programs will work better with 4 cores.

I can update this model with the quad core processor and also can I connect a second HDD?

    Hello

Seem to be the processor quad core HD from Toshiba is not a part of this model of laptop and I doubt you could improve it with this extra processor. I think the motherboard is different and does not allow these updates.

Checks if the second HARD drive bay contains the HARD drive connectors necessary.
If there are no connectors, then you will not be able to use the second HDD

  • Pavilion 550z: is the A6 AMD processor - 8550 Quad Core or not?

I am mixes signals that the AMD a6-8550 processor is Quad Core or not.  As I read the document of AMD for this processor, I see that it contains 2 CPU and 4 GPU (a "APU" using architecture HSA).  But in the announcement of HP, it explicitly says "Quad Core".

I was under the assumption that the GPU are used for video processing, but the documentation AMD says that the GPU use also for general treatment.

I'm not a 'gamer', and I wanted a machine at a reasonable price (the 550z Pavilion) to run several virtual OS, so having 4 cores was very attractive to me.

Can someone clarify the situation?  Thank you.

For general advice, see troubleshooting problems with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps described in the second case are a guide to remove everything related to iTunes and then rebuild what is often a good starting point, unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach.

Review the other boxes and other support documents list to the bottom of the page, in case one of them applies.

More information area has direct links with the current and recent buildings if you have problems to download, must revert to an older version or want to try the version of iTunes for Windows (64-bit-for old video cards) as a workaround for problems with installation or operation, or compatibility with QuickTime software or a third party.

Backups of your library and device should be affected by these measures but there are links to backup and recovery advice there.

The "Toshiba Quad Core HD processor" gadget works when I've been upgraded / decommissioning or other video processing in the "Toshiba graphic Video Library»

To check this, click on the red arrow on the left side of the gadget, click on "library graphic video Toshiba", right click on a video and select "vidéo Processing", then try and upconvert or downgrade a video according to what kind of video it is.

Simple treatment should see the upper left quadrant the gadget turn orange or red while showing a percentage. Complex treatment, perhaps using one of the other programs in the menu drop down the gadget can do all four quadrants of the gadget actively processing colors/percentage of changes. I saw all active quadrant during certain functions of video processing. I've not seen it activates when not video processing.

The program that you are running appears in the white box in the gadget under "request of race."

  • Satellite L555-10R - support quad-core processors?

    Hello

I'm new to the forum. I have a Satellite * L555-10 * and I would like to know

(* 1) * what kind of motherboard, it is equipped and
(* 2) * that supports the processors quad core (for example intel Q9100)

I used the CPU - Z software, but he has not given enough information on the type of motherboard. I want to upgrade the processor and I can't find out if my motherboard supports four cores.

    Thank you in advance!

    Hello

To be honest, I think that no one can say what motherboard is equipped with it. Here he s only one user to user forum and if you want to know more details, ask the partner of service authorized in your country.

On the updates, I can only say that it s official unsupported. This means that no one can tell what are the types of processors are supported or not. When you replace the CPU, you will lose your warranty, everything happens on your own risk!

  • Toshiba Quad Core HD processor - useful for 3D applications?

    Hello all,.

I am curious to know if anyone has experience or ideas, on the "usefulness" of the "Quad Core HD processor" when you use 3D applications. I am interested in buying one mainly for 2D (Adobe apps) and rendered 3D (3DStudioMax and Hypershot from Bunkspeed) and I'm not sure that this "Quad Core HD processor" extra is none of the benefits, in particular, for a real time using Hypershot rendering.

I understand that the "Quad Core HD processor" is planned for big files processing/transcoding, but surely, it is not limited to video processing just... or is it?

Any info/advice would be much appreciated.

    Thank you very much

There you can find all the details on the Toshiba Quad Core HD processor benefits.
The Toshiba Quad Core HD processor is really very powerful. This means that you can run different applications and that it was aimed not only at the upscale DVD quality high definition. His notebooks Qosmio G50/G55 integrated.

  • Can I have processor Xeon L5506, 2.13 GHz, 4 MB Cache and Intel Xeon E5507 SLBKC Quad-Core 2.27 GHz on the same map.

While trying to study for server + cert I picked up a PowerEdge R710 with an installed L5506 .  While half asleep at the reading of all the tech manuals I could locate on the configuration of the RAM I ordered ram and other treatment of E5507 (thought I was ordering the same processor that has been installed but messed up and ordered E5507 not the L5506).  Was tired of trying to let all the rules concerning the memory locations to use and served a bit worrying type of socket being this is the first time I will address a multi processor main Board.

Is it possible to have both installed on the R710 Board or they play well with each other?  It seems they would be not based on information from another forum and something on the site of CPU upgrade.

Any help is greatly appreciated I don't mind even after a link and do the research myself just need advice.  This community seems great and am happy to join.

    Thank you

    Hello.

The SLBKC of E5507, Xeon Quad - Core Intel 2.27 GHz is not a supported on the R710 server processor. When you use more than 1 CPU, processors must match in each specification. See below taken processors supported on this server. Consider buying another L5506 treatment instead.

  • Processor Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 Quad - Core for dell dimension e521?

I just ordered an Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 Quad-Core processor to replace my old amd athlon 64 3200 + for my dell dimension e521 BIOS (version 1.1.4).

I just want to know if the new processor will work with dell dimension e521 system.

    my PC:

    AMD athlon 64 3200 + 2.00ghz

6 GB of ram DDR 2

    1 to hidden

    AMD radeon HD 6450

    ...

    Thank you

Nope.  Intel chips use different chipsets and different the SB of AMD processor sockets.  If your computer is equipped with an AMD processor you must upgrade with an AMD processor.

  • Is temp CPU to 131-140 iron an AMD Athlon II X 4 620 2.6 GHz Quad - Core Processor normal or high?

I have just instlalled an AMD Athlon II X 4 620 2.6 GHz Quad - Core (ADX620WFK42GI) instead of my 2 215 dual core athlon processor and my temporary hoovers around iron 131-140. is this normal operating temp?   Cause now my CPU fan turns up every 5 minutes for about 5 min and it never ran full front

As tetraethyle3 says, if you use the one provided with the dual core cpu, it can
be insufficient. Dual-core coolers are similar, but not the same thing.
However, you may have gotten the paste application heat badly too.
There are tutorials of application of thermal paste on the i-net.

Try a Coolermaster EVO Hyper 212.
They are well regarded as a good value for the effective cooler money. You have to
remove the motherboard to mount, unless you have a case with a hole in the motherboard tray to allow replacement of cooler.

All three AMD I've used for the Athlon 64 came out slowed in the bass
    40 c in summer, but my Phenom 965 now stands at 35 ° C (temperature of 22 c air).
In the summer with temperatures of air between 28-32 + C it will hit 60-65 ° C under full load.
The stock AMD cooler also kept the 965 at similar times, but unlike my previous
AMD coolers the fan was loud, so I installed a Noctua U9 with fan only.

  • Processor AMD Phenom 9150e Quad-Core

I want to update my previous post. HP support has just informed me that my processor has four-processor 1.8 ghz, integrated into a processor and it will run to approximately 6 GHz. From my calculations, if that were true, it should work to 7.2 ghz. It seems that I get a different answer depending on who reads my email. What I want to know is can I run a TV tuner card thatrewuires a 2.2 ghz processor, but I can't get them to answer this question. Help!

I just replied to your previous post:

Everything I've seen says a 1.8 ghz processor, but it's a Quad Core. Probably the specs say you need a processor 2.2 ghz P4 or something like that. The processor you have is much faster than a single core 2.2 ghz cpu. I would be shocked if she can't handle a tv tuner.

You can only install the processor AMD Phenom 9350 X 4 in addition to what you have. It is 2 ghz and not worth the hassle of upgrading.

HP response is not exactly true. You can't just multiply by the number of hearts clock speed... it's not as simple as that. But in the concept, it is true that a Quad Core (4 processors on the same chip) is much faster than 1 core the same speed as I said above. You have a very powerful computer. There is never the fastest for more than a day or 2 it seems but yours is certainly in the top 4 or 5% of all the computers in the House over yonder. Next year, it will be in the top 10% and the year after, etc.

  • CPUID (1) do not return don't not every bit of functionality on the new Xeon Quad-core processors?

I use VMWare Player 3.0.1 build 227600 and have noticed the same problem on Windows xp and RedHat Linux images a quad-core Xeon. A colleague has seen the same problem using Fusion as well.

On the host operating system (Mac / Windows / Linux) I am getting the output of the CPUID (1) next:

    CPUID (1): eax = 0x000106a5 ebx = 00100800 ecx = 0x009ce3bd edx = 0xbfebfbff x 0

Present exactly the same code within an operating system invited to VMWare Player:

    CPUID (1): eax = 0x000106a5 ebx = 04100800 ecx = 0 x 00980201 edx = 0x0febfbff x 0

Futher code in the library specifically to care little 28 in the edx register, which is located on processors that support hyperthreading or multiple cores (and as we know, the new Xeons support both). My images VMWare configured to run at 2 or 4 processors, but identification CPUID code does NOT see EDX bit 28 as being fixed. Example code for the multi-CPU identification of Intel assumes this bit is defined for topology CPU counts as well. (I won't go into the other differences in ebx, ecx and edx).

The same test code running on a Core 2 Duo on the host operating system product:

    CPUID (1): eax = 0x000006f6 ebx = 01020800 ecx = 0x0000e3bd edx = 0xbfebfbff x 0

Operating exactly the same code in a guest OS in VMWare player on the Intel Core 2 Duo (same image VMWare):

    CPUID (1): eax = 0x000006f6 ebx = 00020800 ecx = 0x0000e3bd edx = 0xbfebfbff x 0

As far as I know, the only variable here is the CPU. The code that runs directly in a welcome what OS behaves properly on the Xeon Quad-core and Core 2 Duo, so the problem seems to be somewhere in VMWare Player.

From what I saw, there were several problems Xeon in VMWare for a while - maybe it's just another one of them.

Has anyone other saw this and have a reasonable and safe solution to correctly detect the core CPU / cache topology if VMWare is the mixture?

If you run your guests with binary translation, we are unable to intercept CPUID executed at CPL3, because that code runs in direct execution.  Under the binary translation, that we can only intercept CPL0 CPUID instructions that we translate.  The title of the material assistance to virtualization, intercept us all the instructions of CPUID, regardless the privilege level.  I suppose you issue CPUID from user code at CPL3.  You should be able to play with the privileged execution mode and see the effects of translation binary vs VT - x.

Under translation binary, if you "clear acceleration", that we can intercept all the instructions of CPUID, because then everything is translated.

  • Quad Core Processor, VT not supported on one of the four cores

I've had a look around forums and couldn't find anyone else having this problem.

I built a machine based on a chip Quad Core Q9400, 2 GB of memory and an Intel G41 motherboard

I installed CentoS 5.3 and vmware server 2.0 yesterday turned on VT in the BIOS and everything was fine, I installed a copy of windows server 2003 x 64.

This morning, I upgraded the memory to 8 GB, 800 MHz, and when I rebooted, my server have complained that the chip did not support 64-bit.

Starting with the vt.iso shows all 4 cores, but reads as follows

Core 0: this core does not support the VT

Base 1: VT is enabled on this core

Core 2: VT is enabled on this core

Base 3: VT is enabled on this core

Someone has ideas have VT can not be supported on a carrot? I tried to reset the BIOS, but the previous 2 GB of memory, reinstalling the processor, nothing worked

This sounds like it might be erratum Intel AV69 (http://download.intel.com/design/processor/specupdt/318727.pdf).  Have you checked the BIOS updates?
