Professional vista loading on another computer after the failure of the original unit

I bought a Dell PC a few years ago, loaded with Vista Business, the PC failed and was not worth repair that I then tried to load the vista enterprise on a Vista premium on my laptop that is not a Dell, it was not possible because Dell does not? I bought the program as well as the PC from dell and have a license, which means that this copy of Vista is mine and I should be able to use it. So why can't load which is effectivly a microsoft program, I bought from Dell which acts only as a retailer for the program on a computer that I own, if the original does not. I know now that I will never buy an another Dell computer and if it is average of Microsofts to force people to buy another program very expensive whenever a PC goes down then I will run Linus in the future.

Dell is apparently saying that to re use the program I bought and have. I have to buy another machine from Dell. Since it will come ready load I will bought another program so, either the base of the House, I don't want to, or a business that I already have a license for

Dell, HP, etc. sells cheaper OEM licenses that are related in that they are installed on the original computer.

If you had bought a license to sale at retail of Microsoft, it could you have transferred it to another computer.

Read this:

If your computer is pre-installed with Vista, it is classified as an OEM license and is not transferable.

The license of Vista OEM is related to the original computer it is installed on and dies with the computer.
You cannot transfer it to another computer/laptop

If a license of Vista at retail, you can transfer it to another computer/laptop.
But it can only be installed on one computer at a time.

A single license is a single Installation.

See you soon.

  • OEM Windows 7 installation on another computer after the first dead

I recently bought a laptop computer without an operating system, and the seller I sold separately an OEM Windows 7 Professional version. I installed and activated this version of Windows. I must return this laptop because I was not satisfied with it. The seller will refund me the price of the laptop, but not Windows. Can I use this version of Windows, or do I have to just eat the cost?

OEM cannot be moved to a new computer. You will need to buy another copy to install Windows on another computer.

Can move you to a new Windows 7 computer

If it's a full license or upgrade retail - Yes. You can move it to another computer as long as it is installed on a single computer at a time (and if it's a Windows 7 Upgrade version the new computer must have its own XP/Vista license qualification). The previous installation of Windows 7 on the old computer must be formatted or deleted. You will have to perhaps call Microsoft and explain what happened to complete activation. Turning it on the second computer will automatically be in effect 'disable' the license for the first computer. The key works with 32 and 64 bit, but can only be installed at a time.

If it's an OEM license - don't. OEM licenses, including Windows preinstalled on a computer before purchase and Windows purchased separately, are related to the first computer, they are installed on and cannot be transferred to another computer. To install Windows on another computer, you will need to buy another copy.

I installed windows 8 on computer 'A' by using a product key. After some time I upgraded to windows 8.1. now, I want to disable my computer product key 'A' so that I can use it on another computer.

There is no real deactivation procedure, slmgr.vbs - upk simply uninstalls the key and put the computer into test mode.

If you want to use the key to product elsewhere, you will need to use for phone activation reactivate on another computer:

    Activation of the phone:

    Hello

If you use Norton, AVG, Avira, Microsoft Security Essentials, McAfee, etc. the default action is for Windows Defender must be disabled, that these AntiVirus programs have their own Antispyware Applications.

    There is nothing to worry.

Using both programs at the same time can cause system conflicts, etc.

  • Installation of Windows Vista to another computer after a course upgraded to Windows 7?

I upgraded my new computer Windows 7 I can intall windows vista on the old computer?

If your Vista is a "Retail" version, so yes with the following restrictions: 1) If your old PC as has a previous operating system (e.g. Windows XP), then you can use the "Upgrade" to Vista version. (2) If you old computer has no previous OS, then you need the 'Full' product version of Vista.

However if you have a version of Vista OEM (which comes preinstalled with the computer), it can be moved/installed on another computer, as the OEM versions are linked to the first computer on which they are installed.

  • Message came up with, "Windows has detected another computer with the same IP address on this netework."

A message came that said, Windows detected another computer with the same IP address. "... or similar message to one, that could just be the functioning of the laptop for the wireless?

    MurrayJoe:

    > Mean someone has or may have access to my PC or laptop?

You mentioned a wireless laptop. Do you get this message at home (when your laptop is in communication with your own wireless router), or that you get this message when in a public hotspot?

If at home, then I would be not too concerned (what security options enabled in your home router?).

If you get the message while using a public access point, this does not necessarily your computer has been hacked... but it is a warning that you should not ignore. In general, I would not go to any site that has my financial data, or any other sensitive data, a public hotspot. There are too many ways that a public hotspot may be compromised.

Your original post said that "a message came that said, Windows detected another computer with the same IP address.

There are several reasons this could happen... some innocent people and some not so innocent.

If your network is configured for the most common way, then your router uses a feature called Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP). You can read about DHCP here...

    http://en.Wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_Host_Configuration_Protocol

Basically, when a device on your home network needs an IP address, he asks your router and your router assigns an IP address... technically, "rents" the router address for a given period (one day). Once this period has elapsed, the device must 'renew lease'.

DHCP stops you from the hassle of having to assign a static IP address to each device on your network and then don't forget to retrieve that meet if/when a device are removed from your network.

Sometimes the process DHCP can be confused and assign the same address on multiple devices. If/when this happens, communication between devices on your home network may be confused. Windows is smart enough to detect that another device on your home network has the same address as the computer where Windows is currently running..., but Windows can not solve the problem.

You can determine the IP address of the computer that is running Windows (and posted the message you saw)... by entering "ipconfig" (without the quotation marks) at a command line prompt. Then you can check the IP addresses of all devices on your network until you find the other devices with the same IP address. Then you could say either every device to get a new IP address of the router (or restart the device). Alternatively, you can try just stating the computer that is running Windows to get a new IP address (by first entering "ipconfig/release" then "ipconfig / renew" in the command-line invite him... all orders without the quotes).

But since you said that you are not very tech savvy, my first suggestion was the easiest... just shut everything in your network, and then restart one at a time by starting with your ISP device, router, and other devices. If the problem persists after that, then more troubleshooting (as described in the previous paragraph) would be necessary.

I hope this helps to clarify the issue for you. If you have any questions, please post them and I'll try to answer.

HP Pavilion dv6000 (Vista) starts with a blank screen with a cursor after the original hp logo screen.  Cannot get it to boot Windows.  Any thoughts on next steps?

I remove the hard drive and attach it to your desktop and use the host operating system to run a check disk on your drive.  The laptop goes hard disk looking for instructions to start and he does not see the correct code.  This is probably due to a damaged boot sector.  Another idea is that your bios has changed and you have changed the SATA from AHCI to IDE type somehow or vice versa. You also left a non bootable disk in the DVD/CD drive.  Remove all disks from your DVD.
