• New ESX5 host - questions see SAN storage data and much more

  Just installed a new vSphere host 5 and added to a cluster with 2 x 3.5 host (in my vCenter Server 5)

  3 questions.

  1. I can't see LUN (on SAN datastore). Have zoned out my new HBA etc and still no joy. Tried the host that it recharges and rescan option etc. Any ideas?

  2 - my 3.5 hosts I was able to specify different default gateways for my Console and VMKernel Service (both on the same vswitch). I have the Service Console configured vmkernel. 10.16.5.x and 172.16.5.x (I know there is no Service Console in vSphere 5\ESXi) but on my ESX5 host I can't specify different gateways for VMKernel and network management. I'm afraid that vmotion etc will not work between 3.5 hosts and host 5, because although the VMkernels have addresses in the same range, they have not the same gateway. I have to add a local route on the host ESX 5? Or am I wrong configured somewhere?

  3 minor irritation. My local drive in my new server is showing that the data store. Can it be hidden or changed to not be visible in the data store? I want to only display my SAN data stores.

  (1) sounds like a SAN configuration problem - you should be able to see the LUN masking and zoning is correct in the FC switch and storage array.

  (2) you could specify wear two ways because the vmkernel and the Service Console were different and supposed to be on different networks - you no longer have a gateway single vmkernel - traffic will work as long as they are on the same subnet - a gateway is used only when you exit the subnet

  (3) I do not think it is possible to hide the local data store - but I could be wrong

  General = system starts and works well, most of the time, but crashes at random, usually in streaming video, but other times, as well

  Win Update = Error Msg: "impossible to verify updates because no service not running - restart (does not help)." However, the VICTORY seems to automatically update very well (he just did this week).

  PC freezes = while watching NetFlix, other software streaming services (IE FXCM trading station)

  Indexing = sometimes, computer is very slow to scan (index?) drive / content folder

  Other = I do not know how to read the error or the event logs, the and al., so does not (see below). DSL ATT Uverse Speedtest / test line out above marks paid for. I don't know what "MS fix utility" to try (IE test of memory). C: drive is 3 GB to 500 GB full so cannot move to WIN 10 (maybe it is?) I'm lost...

• Host file continues to go back to the original entry.  Impossible to update file host, questions HA

  I installed vsphere4 with a host name and then wanted to change... I've updated the host file, / etc/network and even made a "newhostname hostname" but when I go back to look at the hosts file, it just goes back to the original host name.   HA adds an entry to the host file, which makes me believe that it doesn't.    I restart the network service, the server and it still goes back host name of the i put when I installed the server.  Strangely, when I do the hostname command, I get the correct new host name. but I can only ping the server using the original host name because that is what is in the hosts file.

  any one seen this before? any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Activate the profile Correction Question

  I'm on a PC-Windows7 and Lightroom 3.4.1

  Is there a way to get to the starting or opening any catalogue, have the profile Correction allow automatically checked?

  I find it a bit cumbersom to make one then have to synchronize all until I really get to work on my files.

  Yes it is possible. However, you will need to repeat the steps for each camera model that you use.

  1. Select the file in the library module. The file must be one that Lr has a profile of lenses for and without any develop adjustments (i.e., a file not published)

  2 go to the develop module

  3. go to lens Corrections Panel

  4. check the activate profile Corrections. Make sure the installation popup shows by default.

  5. go in menu development and choose the default configuration settings

  6. when the dialog box opens, press the update to current settings button

  Above shows Lr to apply automatically the default profile for any file that has an available profile.

• Creating lenclues accounts of ESX host questions

  Because ssh is daiabled by default, I created user accounts for admins on all of my ESX 3.5 U2 guests and gave them shell access. In order to execute all orders of root, do I need to add to the group 'root '? Do need to be added to any group, or they may themselves using the su raise - command and entering the root password? Would there be an advantage by adding a group of vi_admins and placing the admins in there?

  They should be able to use the su - command = elevate their privileges to the root level while maintaining an audit trail.

  Does anyone know where is memory privileged share between virtual machines in the profile of the host?

  I disabled the salting after it has been put a patch last year, but now my cluster complains of being non-compliant and I cannot find the setting in the profile of the host.

  Looking for a Mem.ShareForceSalting in the profile of the host. Allows to set the value of salt.

  The current value can be discovered by esxcli system parameters list advanced o/Mem/ShareForceSalting. I guess you want to change to 1 (default is 2)

  You can edit this profile host to change the right profile---> advanced configuration Option---> Clik---> Add Profile. Create a new profile with OptionProfile at the bottom of this sheet.

  Expand OptionProfile---> Advanced Option---> select "configure a fixed option.

  On the first box, enter Mem.ShareForceSalting and on the second box set to 1 (I changed the salt value (default) 2-1)

  Then follow the standard-setting process and application of profile

  I'm currently testing using profiles of host to apply some settings specific to my guests. I start simple - everything what I want the first attempt is to apply the settings of Core Dump.

  I have:

  • configured my host of reference with core dump settings
  • the creation of the host of my reference host profile
  • The option toggle the profile Configuration of 'Coredump in the network settings' are valid
  • Attached to my target host and checked for compliance - this allowed to identify the CoreDump parameters as the failure of the observation only.

  I apply the profile of host to my target host, MISTLETOE advised thus apply the CoreDump settings it will remove the configuration of the entire network of the host target (all vSwitches and port groups).

  So - where I'm going wrong? I understand that the profile should apply CoreDump settings. I don't understand why he removes all network configurations too.

  I would be grateful for the pointers that anyone can offer...

  Both modules highlight seem to be used for the FC interfaces (we use iSCSI...) are so more than likely is not necessary. the Hostprofile-bfaconfig module is to extend the host configuration for the CF settings profiles, which would of course empty in our case since we use only.

  WebClient allows to connect you to vCenter, go to the tab network for esxi host, select vmkernel adapters and find "" TCP / IP Stack '. " Each unique adapter should get value for this cru. Select the vmkernel impacted port. Click the Refresh button.

  If this does not work, reboot the host of problem. Do it on all three hosts.
