  • Can I create a screen saver "favorite quotes" in El Capitan?

Years ago, I had a PC which allow me to create short (probably 100 characters, not even not at the level of Twitter) quotes as screensaver.  I'd like to be able to do in El Capitan, but don't know how.

I thought to try to transform the simple text or Word documents in JPEG format and their use in a folder of photos I could choose as a screen saver in El Capitan, but I have no idea how to format a Word document to JPEG format, as opposed to a PDF file.  (1) is there a simple way to create a text-only screen saver (or perhaps to add short text phrases to an existing screensaver program in El Capitan)?  (2) in the case, could someone tell me how to do what I want to do?  Thanks for your suggestions!

You can create a folder of images of text with Keynote, if you have installed.

Create a new document, Keynote, then write a single citation per slide.

Using "file > export" to export slides as image to the folder files:

And the application overview allows to split a PDF document in a single image per page.

You should check your Applications folder.  The Setup program for El Capitan should be there.  Move it to the trash, and then start the download again.

  • Problem creating bootable installation for El Capitan

    Hello

When I try to create an installation program for El Capitan bootable on a new MacBook Pro (A1278) in November 2015 using the string SUDO included in

HT201372: Create a bootable OS x Installer, I get an immediate failure with the answer "sudo: failed to initialize the PAM: no such file or directory." Diskmaker X loops on it and runs into the same answer of the problem.  Is there a solution or the solution to this problem?

If you do not already have a current backup, please backup all data, and then reinstall the OS. * you don't need to erase the boot volume, and you won't need the backup unless something is wrong. If the system has been upgraded an earlier version of Mac OS X, you may need to the Apple ID and password to use.

There are ways to back up a computer that is not fully functional. Ask if you need advice.

If you installed the runtime Java distributed by Apple, and still need, you will need to reinstall it. It goes the same for Xcode. All other data will be preserved.

Related support article refers to OS X 10.11 ("El Capitan"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later versions.

  • seeking calendar alerts

I am looking for a calendar program that will send alerts to my account (the way calendar used for). Since I upgraded to el Capitan, alerts, I put in place in the calendar 8.0 simply get lost in the Notification Center as hundreds of applications send messages.

Can anyone recommend a 3rd party calendar program for el Capitan on a mac (no iphone or ipad).

    Thank you.

Calendar done yet - the option is not as obvious. Select alert - mine says 15 minutes prior to the event. Contains a list of the different times and the last option is custom. Select custom.  The first option is the message with the sound. Click on it to find the e-mail option and select it.

  • MacBook Pro slows down to a halt when plugged via magsafe.

    Hey guys.

I had this strange problem lately, which started about 2 weeks ago.

My Macbook Pro works perfectly as it is not plugged into the magsafe adapter.

At the time wherever he is plugged in, it slows down to almost a halt with hiccups etc beach ball. From the MBP place goes from 15 to 20 seconds (unplugged) to 3-5 minutes (connected with magsafe)

Now, I thought initially it was a hardware problem, but then I did a complete reformat and reinstall:

I actually did 3 reformats full (the first two I have zero'ed my data) AND reset the SMC and the PRAM twice:

The first reformat and reinstall brought back my MBP of El capitan to Snow Leopard. Meanwhile, first to reformat and reinstall the system, it may have showed signs of it still be afflicted by this slowness and beach ball gasp he showed before the reformat and reinstall. I kept the first reformat and reinstall for maybe 30 minutes in which I decided to reformat and reinstall once again, that I did not like the name of the Home folder.

The second reformat and reinstall, I did notice one problem with the system, in fact it was running flawless both disconnected and connected via magsafe. I pulled up to the PS4 and played a few BF4 while I downloaded and reinstalled all the updates, then I upgraded to El Capitan. After all was said and done, I was reading how you can do a clean install of El Capitan via a USB port. I wanted to try this, so I downloaded a copy of El Capitan to a USB stick with the manufacturer of disc X and a then reformat (no zero out as starting program with El Capitan does not have it), and did a clean install of El Capitan.

I didn't restore from back up or anything, the only thing I did was download all my iCloud data, like photos and songs etc. My system worked perfectly for about a week since the reformatting and reinstalling. He had no problem with the connected system or not.

Now, a week later, the same problem slipped immediately came out of nowhere and the system works like crap when it is plugged. It takes 3-5 minutes to start, instead of 15 to 20 seconds when it is not plugged in. Also keep in mind, this is a new reinstall where I don't have any what garbage on my system. I didn't yet to reinstall all the games on my MBP, or anything like that, and in my opinion, this is one very bare reinstall OS. The total memory used is like 150 concerts against 350 before my first reformat and reinstall.

So, I'm to the point where I'm racking my brain trying to figure out whether it is a hardware problem. Since the system ran a good week without this post question reformat and reinstall, it makes me doubt that it is a hardware problem. But on the flip side, since I did a reformat and reinstall, it can't be a problem of software either, especially since I didn't install anything the night before this problem appeared.

My only hope to address this problem is I hope one of you had the same problem and have a solution. If not, it seems that I might need to get a new MBP this fall, which would be a shame this system ran flawlessly and fluidly before this annoying problem.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Since you mentioned the snow leopard, I understand that the MBP is an older model (2009 or almost?)... What is the status of the battery? https://support.Apple.com/en-us/HT201585

  • 6th generation Nano more often used to synchronize

Just got a used iPod Nano 6th generation, and I'm in trouble.

I have an iMac 27 inch, model late 2009, running El Capitan. I have the latest version of iTunes.

When I connect the iPod to the computer via most of the USB sites, it does not appear in the Finder as a mounted drive. However, it fact appear in system information under Bus USB 2.0-> Hub-> iPod. The system seems vaguely aware that there is a connected iPod, but doesn't let me do anything with it. The iPod itself says that it is connected, and it charges with success.

However, when I plug the iPod into either of the USB slots on my Apple wired keyboard, it fact appear in the Finder. Basically, on 6 slots USB (4 on iMac) and 2 on the keyboard, it will only reveal when it is connected to one of them.

Once I got it in the right port USB, iTunes has been able to recognize the iPod. However, it seems especially want to synchronize. Usually it hangs there for several minutes while trying to synchronize before you say it's impossible: "iTunes could not copy X to iPod Y because the file cannot be read or written.". At this point, there usually is no longer appears in iTunes (even if it is mounted in the Finder).

Sometimes successfully, it syncs, but 90% of the time that it just hangs up. I don't see a model when this happens. I wrote this, I was able to do accept a synchronization of two podcasts and a song, and then it stopped working again.

I tried to reset the iPod and be in and out of disk mode. I was unable to restore factory default via iTunes: nothing happens for awhile, then iTunes says that it cannot.

I tried to manually add files to the iPod by dragging on in the Finder. This usually causes Finder hang and then must be restarted. In some cases, I can't even restart Finder until I pull the cable the iPod, as the whole system crashes.

I used on the iPod disk utility, to fix all the errors (he found) and to clear its contents.

I wonder if this is related to the USB cable, but I guess my thought is that if the cable was defective, wouldn't I have not have done until now? It shows in the Finder, cool and sometimes allows to synchronize a file. But I could well be wrong. Before I go buy a new one, I thought I would check here to see if it could be something else.

Any help is appreciated. I have this during 4 hours, try different things, read troubleshooting guides, forum posts, etc.

Your Mac is old enough to have ports USB 2.0, so your 6th gen iPod nano should work well with it.  My Mac mini's 2011 (last iTunes and OS X running); It works very well with my old iPods; most of them are older than your iPod nano.  It should work on the direct USB ports on your iMac.  It is strange that it works a little better on the free USB port on your keyboard.  Normally, I would suggest using a direct USB port on Mac when troubleshooting.  And your USB cable is probably fine; I would bad cable try another cable or using your cable power with another Apple device (if possible).

First, you must use the procedure to Reset SMC (System Management).  It serves as a general hardware reset for the Mac.  For an Intel iMac, it's basically unplug the power cord from the iMac and reconnect it, at the end of a specific procedure

Reset the management system (SCM) controller on your Mac - Apple Support  (see Reset the SMC on Mac desktops)

You can also make the correct procedure to Reset NVRAN ("PRAM") ol ', just in case...

How to reset the NVRAM on your Mac - Apple Support

NOW, you can try some real tests to narrow down the cause of your problem.  These are separate test.

    (1) stop (power off) Mac and disconnect all the USB devices.  You can leave your connected USB keyboard/mouse.  Do this Reset (reboot) of your iPod

Learn how to reset your iPod - Apple Support

Start the Mac, launch iTunes and connect the iPod to a USB direct on the Mac, by himself.  Is there a difference?  This is to exclude a conflict between connected USB devices.

    (2) the iMac in Safe Mode startup

Try safe mode if your Mac does not end commissioning - Apple Support

In Safe Mode, the extensions of the system of third parties (such as device drivers) are not loaded when you start.  In addition, the third party background processes that launch automatically when the connection do not run.  This is to exclude a conflict with a third party software that may interfere with the iPod.  Your iPod should (normally) always connect with iTunes in Safe Mode.  Try things like the synchronization and restore in iTunes.

    (3) create a new 'Test user' account in the users and groups System Preferences pane.  I have a user account on my Mac named Test user.  This user account can be Standard (not administrator). Disconnect , then reconnect you user account.  Do not use Quick user change.  In the new user account, run iTunes and connect your iPod.  iTunes uses a new iTunes library.  Add a few songs to test the library.  Try things that don't work well in your usual user account.  This is to rule out a problem related to your usual user account or iTunes library.

    (4) you can do another test, if you have something like an external drive that can be erased.  Use the Setup program for El Capitan downloaded from the Mac App Store to install an external OS X "fresh" on the hard drive system, after erasing it in disk utility.  Startup test of external drive system.  Launch iTunes, plug in the iPod and try even.  This is to rule out a problem with your existing system of El Capitan, which can inherit problems that you apply updates over time.

In each case, if the iPod works normally for this test, you have reduced the cause.  You can then focus your troubleshooting to find the exact cause.  Please post back with new discoveries...

  • Merge Partitions disk0s2 and disk0s4 (leaving disk0s3)

    Hi all

As the title says, I need to merge disk0s2 and disk0s4 without touching disk0s3 because the latter is my recovery partition. I dared not try, but I guess I can't use this command in a terminal because it also merges disk0s3:

    diskutil mergePartitions JHFS + disk0s2 disk0s4 NewName

now when I type the command "diskutil list", I get this:

    List of the Asger$ diskutil

    / dev/disk0 (internal, physical):

    #: NAME SIZE TYPE IDENTIFIER

    0: GUID_partition_scheme * GB 320,1 disk0

    1: disk0s1 EFI EFI 209.7 MB

    2: Apple_HFS Macintosh HD 278,5 GB disk0s2

    3: disk0s3 Apple_Boot Recovery 650.0 MB HD

    4: Apple_HFS BOOTCAMP 40.6 GB disk0s4

As I am on El Capitan, disk utility does not either because apple has changed a useless poor beta as a program on El Capitan.

I have considered just by typing the command merge above and then reinstall it somehow Apple_Boot Recovery HD, but I really don't want to go that route if possible.

And no, assistant Bootcamp can do since the Bootcamp partition is already deleted and formatted in JHFS +.

    Any suggestions?

  • Which video setting should I use on first 13?... confused .so for me...

Would appreciate your help to unravel the following problem:

I have a Mac 24 "with OSX 10.11 El Capitan using iMovie for many years. Nnever had to worry about the video settings - there is no need for it, the app auto adjusts the parameters of.

Just started using the first 13 because it offers many more options for editing.

My problem starts when you try to burn DVDs with films edited by first using the mp4 format; After some time, the burner (tried iDVD and burner for it) fails with a "coding error".

These edited at first files can be opened and viewed using QuickTime, but if I try to record using Quicktime, it refused displaying a message mentioning an incompatibility with timing.

When movies first in iMove importing and exporting using the same mp4 format - new files can be burned, and the interesting thing is that the iMovie mp4 file is approximately 30% smaller than to the Prime Minister.

In short, the two files have the same format of mp4, iMovie is approximately 30% smaller and can be engraved, first cannot.

Thought about video settings since I used the default that comes with the first, but there are so many options and I'm not an expert.

I record using SD cards with 2 devices:

    * Executives of Sony HDR-CX200 NTSC 1440 x 1080 60i

    * Nikon 5100 camera 1920 x 1080 30 fps NTSC

Question: can I use a single video setting for cameras and which is recommended, or what I need to change the settings every time?

(Not to mention phone mp4 movies that I get and have another size 568 x 320...)

I think you're looking in the root folder not your home folder.   Tilde ~ in front of the first slash indicates the folder.

    Try this...

    Quit Safari.

Open a Finder window. In the Finder menu bar, click go > go to folder

Type or copy paste the following text:

    ~/Library/preferences/com. Apple.Safari.plist

Click OK, and then move the com.apple.Safari.plist file to the trash.

    Restart Safari to test.
