Program will not open...

Hello. When I opened the Mavis Beacon typing program that is shown in my bar tasks and I can hear the audio but the program does not open on the screen. If I mouse over the icon, I see the start of programs screen. Right-clicking on the icon doesn't give me the opportunity to maximize. This happens when I try to open it from the desktop shortcut or .exe file and even if I try to "open as Administrator".

I'd appreciate any help.

The mouse on the icon in the taskbar, then move up and do a right-click of the start screen, you see.  From there, choose move.  Press a key on your keyboard (any one) and now finally, move you mouse around and see if the window is displayed.

How can I recover the files and programs before a system restore?  my document folders are all empty and my programs will not open!

I know they are there and hidden somewhere, but this restoration took my settings of the computer to 2004! We lost all our data, our software that we use to operate our company at home, our quickbooks that has all our financial data, family photos, videos, Outlook will work not so no e-mail, all turned in time and 6 years ' worth of documents have disappeared.

What happeneded was that I was trying to upgrade to quickbooks software when I got an error, I cancelled out of the facility, then restarted and that's when I got an error hal.dll something? I thought about a system restore would allow me to go back in time to just before when the error occurred, but he basically took my computer back to factory settings, so all the programs that I installed and paid hundreds of dollars for the past six years has disappeared, Microsoft Office and very expensive construction estimating software that we wil have to pay once AGAIN for If I can't get this program working properly.

    I am a fool! I can't believe what's happening.

Someone at - it instructions on how I can retrieve either the programs and data that I need specifically or how to go and seek shade from the files I read online on and restore my computer for about 12 hours ago?

    Thank you all!

Looks like you did a system rather than a system restore recovery.  If you have inserted a disc supplied with your machine and booted from it, you probably erased the disc and installed the original operating system provided with your computer.  Usually, a step in this recovery is to do a full format or quick of your drive.  If you did a full format, your data is permanently lost.  With a quick format, your data may still be there, somewhere but inaccessible by normal means.  Applications must generally be installed, in order to recover the files probably will not help unless you have the original installation media.  Your other data files (images, videos, financial data) may be salvageable, but at this point, it would be advisable to take your computer or your disk to a business/professional who is experienced with data disc recovery.  It will be cheap and there is no guarantee.

Impatient, remember investigate you a backup strategy for your computer and critical data.  Hard drives can go wrong with little or no warning.

    Hi Mike,.

According to my experience, this kind of behaviour is symptomatic of the corruption of data on the hard drive. However, since you say that these applications work sometimes I am inclined to suspect that your hard drive may be failing, possibly with errors in sector where those applications reside.

I suggest that you take a backup copy of the any of your own data files and then run a CHKDSK command on your hard drive to see what he finds (this can make a right click on the HARD drive in my computer icon, then select Properties, then the Tools tab.) Check disk utility is at the top).

If it detects too many bad sectors, and then looking to replace the hard drive and reinstalling your system.

Use restore the system to a point before the updates. Then, immediately after the restart, go to control panel - configuration
Windows updates - left upper parameters and set updates download but you can install them. This will allow you
to solve the problems to see the update is causing the problem. For all THE updates driver, right-click on and HIDE and in
does disable the driver updates entirely (why and how below).

For drivers, visit manufacturer of emergency system and of the manufacturer of the device that are the most common.
Control Panel - Device Manager - Display Adapter - note the brand and complete model of your
video card - double - tab of the driver - write version information. Now click on UPdate Driver (this
cannot do anything as MS is far behind the certification of drivers) - then do a right click - Uninstall - REBOOT
This will refresh the driver stack.

Repeat this for network - card (NIC), Wifi network, sound, mouse, and keyboard if 3rd party with their

Now go to the site of the manufacturer of system (Dell, HP, Toshiba as examples) (restoration) and then of the manufacturer of the device

updates on the site of the manufacturer of the system here.)

Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - right click - RUN AD ADMIN - REBOOT after each installation.

Always check in the Device Manager - tab drivers version you install actually shows up. This
because some restore drivers before the most recent is installed (particularly that audio drivers) so install a
pilot - reboot - check that it is installed and repeat if necessary.

Repeat to the manufacturers - BTW on device at the DO NOT RUN THEIR SCANNER - manually check by model.

  • After you run antispyware scan in safe mode, programs will not open.

(Knowing I shouldn't), I opened a folder zipped Internet and received a Trojan horse. I immediately started the computer (windows XP Home Edition) in safe mode and ignored the warnings on the scan in safe mode. After analyzing the computer would start, but the screen is all black. I restarted and did it again. I tried once more and this menu came (one when you press F8) and I clicked on start as the last work settings or anything. I ran the program again antispyware and there removed yet more 'virus '. Now none of my programs will open: a "Open with" menu appears with a list of programs for some and for others such as the Control Panel options give me an error message saying C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe Application not found.

I'm 18 years old and have no idea how to go even to solve this

Hey this is KieConfused answer to my own problem. After all a straight 24 hours of constant fiddling done everything I read on without success, I finally understand how to restore the ability to open my programs (applications). I read all the different means like the system restore and guests of order and same EXE by typing in the Control Panel folder options, but none of this has worked. However, I found this site http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm. He has a list of all the file associations you might need. I'm 18 years old and figured this out me so I believe that most amateurs could do. Since I had problems with applications (.exe) I chose the difficulty of EXE file Association and just opened and he ran and after executed selection and then run again in the next menu (I could have done more but that is pretty much it; just keep clicking on program run or anything like that) and INSTANTLY without having to restart my computer everything worked :) I STRONGLY SUGGEST TRYING THIS FIRST BECAUSE I TRIED EVERYTHING, I READ HERE THAT I COULD FIND AND IT WAS VERY COMPLICATED, AND NONE OF IT HAS WORKED, EXCEPT THIS. Please enjoy the satisfaction of finally being free, and LEARN THE LESSON: DO NOT OPEN what this EITHER AS ZIPPES FILES ON THE INTERNET unless YOU ARE 10000000000% sure THAT it IS SAFE. :)

Firstly, if your computer has been infected by malware, you removed and then use the system restore, chances are good, that the malware was placed on your computer.

Press CTRL-ALT-DEL and open Task Manager.  Once there, click file, and then hold down the CTRL key and click New task (run).  This will open a command prompt window. On the command line type assoc.exe = exefile > press ENTER. You should receive a prompt action succeeded.

Your shortcuts may have been separated as well. On the command line type assoc.lnk = lnkfile > press ENTER.
