Property node (arg 1) visa set up a Serial Port (Instr) .vi-> Untitled 1. VI

Hello

I'm trying to connect an instrument stahl ER-300 with labview. The Stahl is connected to my laptop via a serial port/USB converter.

When I run the program, I get this error property node (arg 1) visa set up a Serial Port (Instr) .vi-> Untitled 1. VI

the driver of the converter is set up and my phone is read as a COM4 and I Don t understand why I get this error.

The program is attached.

I need your help

The error indicates that an input parameter is not valid to configure serial port VI... have you checked that you had wired up to this node correctly?

Down VI serial port configuration and...

It is not wired! Thread resource name VISA through the VI.

  • Error: The property node (arg 1) in .vi VISA set up a Serial Port (Instr)

    Hello

I've seen people once they have gotten this error, but none of them really apply to my situation.

Right now I use LabVIEW example code to read from a device manufacturer. This device is connected using a Tripp Lite USB adapter series (http://www.tripplite.com/en/products/model.cfm?txtSeriesID=782&txtModelID=2430) for the connection from the PC to device with RS232. The adapter works fine when using the software prepared in advance (not LabVIEW) given by the manufacturer and the COM port is seen by LabVIEW. When I run the program, I get the property node (arg 1) visa set up a Serial Port (Instr) .vi (I've also attached the VI but it's a standard VI I got of LabVIEW). I get this error despite the fact that I use the same COM port, who has worked with the manufacturer's software.

I have attached manual of Protocol RS232/debit BUS (not sure if this applies) that requires the device. The device is a mass flow controller whose operating instructions is: (http://nemu.web.psi.ch/doc/manuals/device_manuals/Bronkhorst/917023--Operation%20instructions%20digi...

    I'm using LabVIEW 10.0.1

    Any help is appreciated

Try to restart the PC and then try the LV version before trying other software.

  • error of node (arg 1) .vi property VISA set up a Serial Port (Instr)

    Hi all

I have a request, he had run on a machine well for months.  I use VISA to make the communication between PC and PIC.

Suddenly at certain times, it reports error of node (arg 1) VISA property set up a Serial Port (Instr) .vi. Since then, it does not work.

Œuvres of HyperTerminal.  I check MAX, the COM port it and looks very good.  What is the problem?

Furthermore, I use VISA 4.2.  Maybe somehow it crashed?

    Many thanks for any help.

    Problem solved.

The reason is that the hard disk was running out of space and there is error.  Somehow, causing accident DURATION VISA.

We cleaned drive C: for free space and then repaired DURATION VISA.  Now, he runs with happiness.

Thank you, everyone, for your help.

  • Time GPS, Position, Velocity.vi - error-1073807360 reading was held at node (arg 1) .vi property VISA set up a Serial Port (Instr)

We receive information such as the Latitude and Longitude of a receiver Garmin GPS18xLVC via a serial port on our PC using LabView 7.1.  Successfully, I connected the GPS on the serial port and tested with HyperTerminal.  I tried reading GPS time, Position, Velocity.vi several times and still receive the following error message: error 1073807360 has occurred to the property node (arg 1) visa configure a Serial Port (Instr) .vi.  I think it has something to with the configuration of the VISA series under vi.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

I understood the question, that I had with the time reading the GPS, the Position, the Velocity.vi.  The vi. "do not open" port com automatically and so I had to modify the NMEA GPS Subvi reading to first open the port (VISA open command) and then continue with other operations.  Once I did this it started to work very well.  I don't understand why this feature has been left out because it won't work without it.  I tested the code with a receiver Garmin 18xlvc and it seems to work fine.

  • The VI "VISA set up the Serial Port" will only work at 9600 baud

I wrote a Serial Port RS232 RW.vi monitor of ' "which works for most. The problem is that it will not meet the alternative port configuration settings... For example: the default RS232 serial port configuration is:

(COM1, 9600 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no without parity)

As a test, I use a Null Modem cable to connect to my LabView Com1 port to another PC running RealTerm Serial Port Monitor... Using my "RW.vi RS232' newly designed with the port settings of (COM1, 9600 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no without parity), I can send and cannot receive data back throughout the day no problem...

However, if I configure the port "RW.vi RS232" all other configurations, such as (COM1, 2400 baud, 7 data, 1 stop bit, odd parity bits)... He will not take the expected risks and continues to operate @ 9600 baud rate etc.

Then, I changed the settings default "RS232 RW.vi" (2400,7,1, Odd)

He still refuses to derogate (COM1, 9600,8,1, no...)

I also went in the Device Manager of Win XP on the system of LabView and configured manually Com1 2400,7,1, Odd

and yet,... work at the "RS232 RW.vi" @ 9600,8,1, none

Everyone can test my VI in the car and see if they have the same problem of not being able to see the new changes in the Port configuration settings... other than (COM1, 9600,8,1, no...)...?

FYI... Unfortunately my LabView runs on Version 6.0, you may need to up-conversion of the attached vi

Instead of simply appreciate the comments, you need to implement.

Having closed VISA inside the loop is definitely the problem.  And Crossrulz is 100% correct about the problem being that the serial port gets zero to default baud rate after the closure of the port.  Here's the proof.

Note that while may have set the port settings manually in the Device Manager, these parameters are reviewed by the pilot VISA.  If you look in the measurement and Automation Explorer under devices and Interfaces > serial and Parallel, you'll see the default settings using the VISA driver.  If you change this setting, your program will work as desired.  But this is not the appropriate fix.  The correct solution is to get the VISA close out of the while loop.

The port settings are established in this order.

    1. by Windows device drivers.

    2. by the VISA driver as set in MAX.  Since you are using VISA, these settings will be automatically replace #1.

    3. by the port settings, you set programmatically in your LabVIEW program.

  • Visa OR written closing serial port

    Hi all

Currently in collaboration with LV2011 and NOR visa 2014.  In my application, I have 7 open including 4 serial ports I write for devices, 3 are simply listening.  Now, I write to 4 of these devices, alternating between them, the second time I try to write to a device, the writing is not received, but when I exit the application and close the port, the message is received. I saw this on 2 similar devices and it is a bit random. Possible, it is a matter of the unit, but I don't see this problem when you use the tera term.  We never seen it before?

I can post code, but it is a great application and I use the AMC add on.

    Thank you

    Matt

Using native serial or USB-to-serial adapters ports?  USB adapters often behave in certain circumstances wrong with LabVIEW.

If he can be a bit of work around the problem, is it possible you can close the reference in LabVIEW just after writing of visa for 'forcing' the message, and then open again the serial port reference?

  • Visa read byte at the port

My visa to read, I feed in the bytes in the property node port as input for the number of bytes to read (it's 4 bytes).  However, the output of the read visa give only 2 bytes.  It seems that a few bytes have been lost during the read operation?  Why is this?  It is an easy to see what is in the buffer of the serial port?  Thank you!

    Yik

You likely the session VISA set to end readings when he sees a stop character and VISA reading is to see the stop character, and ending the reading, regardless of the number of bytes you told to read. If you want that it explicitly read that much then you must disable the option "Activate the stop character" in VISA set up a Serial Port.

Turn work, the plots but I get this error message:

1077 error has occurred to the property node (arg 1) in NetworkAnalyzer_UpdatedDAQmx.vi

    Possible reasons:

LabVIEW: Value of property not valid.

    Property name: field Active

Are you sure that the number of elements in the array of Boolean is the number of locations that you did? This error indicates that you have more items that you have drawn in your array of Boolean.

  • LabVIEW 7.1 IVI - C Wrappers and VISA property node do not work together?

    Hello world

I want to use the property node VISA with LabVIEW 7.1 Wrapper of two companies different well known instrument, Rodhe-Schwarz and Agilent Technologies.
The two companies releasead their IVI - C for NI LabVIEW 7.1 drivers version NI Instrument Driver network and they are ready to be installed and used.

I found a bug manifested that the LabVIEW 7.1 version that the bug is not present in whhen versions 8.0 LabVIEW or LabVIEW 8.6 than these IVI LabVIEW of LabVIEW 7.1 wrappers are used.

Everyone could exeperience this bug if they have LabVIEW 7.1 installed and are trying to use the version of LabVIEW 7.1 of these wrappers which are published in NI Instrument Driver Network under the links below.

Agilent ag81150ni IVI Driver for LabVIEW 7.1 install from here. Used in simulation that by definition simulate = 1

    http://sine.NI.com/apps/UTF8/niid_web_display.download_page?p_id_guid=55798957B1A633BDE0440003BA7CCD...

Rodhe Schwarz rsngpt IVI Driver for LabVIEW 7.1 install from here. Used in simulation that by definition simulate = 1

    http://sine.NI.com/apps/UTF8/niid_web_display.download_page?p_id_guid=E3B19B3E91D6659CE034080020E748...

After the installation of these two complete drivers close LabVIEW 7.1, if it was open, and then restart LabVIEW 7.1. You can see two new ready to be used as LabVIEW 7.1 IVI drivers in the LabVIEW Instrument Driver pallet wrappers in a LabVIEW 7.1 VI test.

Open a new white VI and of the use of the Instrument Driver Palette two VI known, initialized with Options.vi and Close.vi adding them on the block diagram, connect all THMs. Accept all default settings except simulate parameter which must be defined as = 1 simulation.

The two VI run OK mode of simulation without errors.

Now select a property in the advanced Panel of VISA node and press this node between 'Initialize them with Options' and 'Close' VI and make all necessary in-out connections and error.

Run these two simple screws of simulation

    1. When I run pilot Rodhe Schwarz IVI the property node going OK until the end. No error
    2. Whne I run Agilent IVI driver the property node is always out of the error Code 7.

Question is why they behave different with regard to the property of node when it is used with the LabVIEW 7.1 envelopes? BTW, the failing VI of wrappers Agilent LabVIEW 7.1 works very well in labVIEW 8.0 and 8.6. That means that this problem is limited only the version of LabVIEW 7.1.

I posted the same question on the set of LabVIEW and nobody chose their interest in there so I decided to post here. As this question is also linked to IVI, VISA drivers, it is possible the person of this group to get a clue about this annoying behavior.

I've attached screenshots of the PNG files that show the difference of different behavior of VISA property between these two drivers node.

  • How to set the property node maximum xscale for several scale XY Chart

    Hello

I use a graph XY with three X axis and three scales of axis Y to draw the three sets of data. This works well.

What I do now is to set the Xscale.Maximum property node for one of the x-axis (the other two autoscale). If I click right in the (Create Blockdiagram; Node property; X scale; Maximum) I can not choose what x-axis I want to put the Maximum for.

So my question: how to select a specific axis allows you to set the XScale.Maximum property node when having several axes?

Thank you for your help, any suggestions are appreciated!

    Hello

After some more research and experimentation, I found that using the scale property X Active I can determine/set for which the XScale.Maximum Xscale is used.

    This solved my problem.

I hope someone else can save themselves a few hours with this thread!

  • Disable lock by property node action problems?

    Hey guys,.

I recently learned how to use the structures of the event to handle the two-step linear control. It was cool. Before, I was running a state machine, and it was a bit heavy.

I am developing a user interface to control these steps, and there are two types of movement I want the user to choose. The first might be called "motion of joystick; you press the left button (and hold it), and the scene shifts to the left until you release the button, or exit button (I have an event for each case, and they do the same thing, namely to stop movement). The second type of movement is "additional query. Here, the user should set the left button and the stage would move 1 mm to the left and stop.

Here's my problem. When I first programmed the "joystick motion", it works fine. Perfectly. Then, I wanted to make the differential movement. Also, that works perfectly. Ok. So I wanted the user to select the type of query by using a Boolean value; that is, they support "the joystick movement" and then these controls become enabled. So I thought that I'd get fancy and property nodes allows you to disable/gray keys that should not be used and select the buttons that should be used. It seems to work GREAT with my "additional query", because at the moment, these Boolean buttons are latch - when pressed and buttons on the block schema reside in the case of the event [which handles the change of value]. However, my 'motion controller' buttons reside outside the structure of the event (but inside the while loop that surrounds it) and it seems that even if the property node "correctly" their gray out when you press the selector button of movement, you can always click on them and the scene shifts. This does not happen with the extra buttons "motion".

    My hunch is that

    (a) I'm not smart enough

    (b) that the location on the block diagram of my buttons that control the motion "joystick" is wrong (i.e. they should be inside the structure of the event somewhere)

    (c) that I have to use another type of mechanical action on the buttons

I read / saw somewhere that the latch - when pressed must reside in the case case that handles the change of value, but I don't really know what to do with Boolean values buttons that have cases of event like "down/up/leave mouse". Any help would be great. Thanks in advance!

The problem is that you use the "Mouse Down" and "Mouse Up" of events for the buttons of the gamepad and that these events still occur when a button is disabled, even if the value of the button does not change. For the buttons of the gamepad, try to use the value Change event. In the case where the structure, use the NewVal (or the appropriate button terminal) to determine whether to start or stop the movement, based on whether the value is true or false. Or, if you wish to continue using the mouse down event, then you must use the value Active Joystick stored in the shift register to determine whether or not to act on these events (wrap functions VISA in the case structures so they run only when Active Joystick is true).

  • Issues related to the cell property node: Position Active for a table control

    Hello

What determines the Position of the Active cell in a table control property node? I have this in my code and display the value of an indicator on front panel. The displayed value is always set to 0,0. Help for the property node says it's "read - only" so what defines the Position of the Active cell in a table control value?

Define you the active cell with a property node.  Once you select an active cell, you can do this cell and single cell-specific things, things like the background value color.

  • Bytes to Port property node. When to use and when not?

    Hi all

Ive frequently used bytes to port property node performing bed series and have not experienced any problems.  I've heard mixed on this subject reviews and I would like to know when to use and when not to use it.

    Thanks for any input.

I will start by when it should not be used.

When there are (as readable) ASCII data to come through and it is separated by a termination character.  Select the stop character and read more bytes than you ever expect a given message.

When there are binary data, but a protocol where you know clearly how the message package is put in place.  In this case, you want to disable the stop character because any octet can be given legitimate and be interpreted as the stop character.  With these protocols, if you know the message is always X bytes, read X bytes.  If the message is of variable length, but the Protocol is set to tell you low for a long time the message is, and then make partial readings.  So if each message starts with 2 bytes that says follow X bytes.  Then read 2 bytes, which converted to a number, then read this number of bytes.

    When to use:

The only time will really use bytes to the port is if you use a terminal of the installation type.  Just enter and display on-screen what never happens happened at the port since the last time it was read.  When you don't care where are message breaks.

If you use bytes to the port and care message breaks, then you're obligated to all your new message concatenated to a string, you store in a shift register and each reading analysis through data to determine if you have a complete message and valid.  If you do not, do nothing and go back and read more.  In fact, you will need to run through the chain of data several times in a row before coming back to reread in the case where the message ever resulted in a single reading packets.

The vast majority of applications falls into one of the above situations.  The last situation is not as common, and if you use bytes to the port with a system of e-mail that has defined a defined protocol or packages, you do a job more in programming to maintain a software buffer of data as well as the hardware buffer to the serial port.
