  Hi all

  So after 30 years of use of windows pc I finally had my first iMac

  I am pleasantly satisfied how the iMac is easy to use although I have a few questions noob:

  1 / I have to install anti-virus on my iMac software? one of the reasons why I chose the Mac is because of its superior security, but I still have to form any antivirus, and if yes what do you recommend?

  2 / the iMac has it built in the hard disk recovery partition? I have not been invited to do a backup am so that a little worried if everything should go pear shaped I wouldn't have a backup to restore. If not, should I create a backup and how would I go about this?

  Luke, no protection against the virus. Is the same for the cleaning of the apps and most of the other third-party utilities. Maintain OSX and using good sense practical computer course and you will be fine. Watch where you click.

  For backups Time Machine from Apple is better IMO.  Get an external hard drive 2 to 3 times the size of your internal drive and let Time Machine is something. The first backup may take a while, but subsequent backups occur every hour in the background. you won't know what is going on.   While trying to update virus definition and spyware from Microsoft Essentials, I received an error: 0x8024400a. I tried to correct the error by running the Microsoft Fit It - 50777 but it did not work. What can I do to solve this problem. I am able to connect to the internet, so I don't know why the update function does not work.

  I have a smart book of sylvania.  She has windows embedded compact 7 on it.  I could not find any where on it where there was a protection software for viruses.  I couldn't find any info online for antivirus for her protection.  I could not download any protection so that it is even not microsoft essentials.  I got a pop up saying that she had some virus top after 2 days.  Help, how clean and use protection software?

  You should not run two antivirus programs. Microsoft Security Essentials versus Avast Security and uninstall what you don't want. With a good antivirus and the built-in Windows Firewall on XP I wish I had the free version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware installed. Update/run it manually once a week or more. You don't need anything else except a smart user.

Firefox itself does not scan files to see if they contain viruses/malware. You still need a form any anti-virus and anti-malware protection. You must also use a firewall.

  As for which is better, you are likely to get many different answers, it's a topic that generates a lot of discussion. A product one person loves will be hated by someone else. I use Microsoft Security Essentials as well as Windows Firewall.
