Use the backup and restore utility for Dell hard disk with a 16 G or larger flash drive to recovery media.  Once made and verified, install the drive, boot from the flash drive and it will retrieve the configuration to factory on the new drive.

First of all, I want to express how much I love your computers, Dell. You guys ROCK! Best brand of computer I've ever bought. On the subject; I have a desktop PC Dell Inspiron 660 with a 1 TB hard drive. I want to spend the hard drive for an SSD, but I looked inside your case and the hard drive has 2 rails metal (one on each side). That being said; How to fit an SSD in there? I know I need an adapter of sorts that it will allow to get into that, but how I'd cela in view of the way in which the hard disk is set up? I'm so confused! Thanks for your time.

You install the drive in a silverstone adapter then put the rails on it.

  • 2011 21 inch iMac won't start after the SSD upgrade

Recently, I upgraded my hard drive for an SSD via a computer repair business in my neighborhood, I also upgraded the ram, but I don't think it's in the case. On a two weeks after the upgrade, my computer don't turn on more. I took it to the genius bar and they told me that the DSS had "failed." So of course, I took my computer to the computer repair company and they ran some tests, discovered that the hard disk does not (according to them, he only read this way because the apple store has run the test for a normal hard drive and not an SSD). I'm not super computer savvy, so I took their word for it.

Now, however, it has been nearly a month and my computer refuses to activate once again. Previously, it has worked well, the fans were running at full blast - what I knew would be a problem (although the repairman told me that they 'fixed' this issue too). So the first time, I downloaded a program called SSD fan control and set the fans to run in silent mode. This second time around, I realized that it was probably a bad idea because it could lead to overheating, so I put manually the fan speed so that we could hear still run, but just not as loud.

I tried the reset SMC, but no result. Right now, I unplugged everything including disconnect it from the power strip.

Any other experience of power with a new SSD failure? Is there anything else I could try at home before contacting the computer again repair business? I would not be able to reach at least until tomorrow, and I'm really curious to know how they managed to get my computer back on the first time.

Also, I've been out of my warranty period for about a year, so that's why I thought that I was not risking too much by exchanging the original for one SSD drive.

First of all, the original in Middle 2011 iMac hard drive had a temperature sensor integrated in the drive.  More new or replacement of those who do not.

Other World Computing sells an Apple certified temperature sensor that plugs into the SATA cable.

    Hello

I had a similar experience with an upgrade of the SSD.
I used exactly the same software and has been able to clone partitions of HARD drive to SSD drive and my cell phone did not start the system from the SSD system partition.

I figured out that the C: partition on the SSD was not marked as active.
    How I solved this?

Well, I put the SSD in the 2.5 external USB enclosure. Then I booted the laptop using the old HDD. I connected the external SSD drive to the USB port.
Then I went to Windows disk management and could activate the C partition on the SSD drive.
Then I replaced the HARD drive with SSD and could boot. :)

  • put the HARD drive in the optical drive stock

    Hi all

I'm sorry if this is redundant, but I couldn't find the answer to any where or through telephone Support from Lenovo.

I received the W530 with stock 500 GB HARD drive, but I want to replace it with the Pro of 840 Samsung SSD and put the HARD drive in the optical drive. I just restore the image from HARD disc for my SSD orginal (now in the original HARD drive box).

At first I thought that I just leave the HARD drive in the original Bay and use the optical drive for the SSD, but since I use the SSD for the OS, and I want to use the DVD player sometimes, I thought I should put the SSD in original HDD bay and the HARD disk in the optical drive.

I'm sure I've read that a lot of people did it with success, but I do not know much about computers and have never done nothing wise hardwear. I tried to put the HARD drive in the caddy Newmode U.S. optical drive, but it wouldn't fit (the screw on the caddy heads are too big). I think it's because the HARD drive still has the metal casing on it. I am worried, however, that if I remove the caddy, it voids my warranty, and above all, I am wanting to make sure it is the correct and safe way to the stock HARD drive in the optical drive.

I put the rails HARD original on the SSD drive rubber because it is in which Bay but you have no other rails to the HARD drive in the case of the optical drive, and I don't even think he would fit in.

So, it's OK to remove the carriage on the stock of HARD drive and put it in the optical drive without any kind of rails or protection (but attach it to the optical drive with the supplied screws caddy)? I think that's what I have to do anyway with the SSd, if she had to go into the optical drive.

I am also an upgrade of RAM, but the keyboard under the bottom access RAM screw is stripped, so I can't remove the original RAM (it is under keyboard) and use the optimal 0 and DIMM slot installation 1. Any ideas?

Thanks for your time, and once again, sorry if this is very basic.

Change hard drives and memory do not void the warranty.

The DSS must be installed exactly as the original HARD drive was, with rails caddy and rubber.

The HARD drive in DVD case must be inserted with the 4 screws with the caddy, nothing else.

To remove the stripped screw, you must use the small (jeweller preference) needle clamp with extreme caution, or slowly drop the screw head to create a new location. The second option is more dangerous because it produces small deposits of metal. If you can't do it yourself, ajeweller could do this easily for you.

    Good luck!

  • HP ENVY 17-j101ex - replace the SSD HARD drive

    Hello

I have HP ENVY 17-j101ex, with the standard configuration: 2 x 1 TB drive HARD 5400 RPM SATA. I want to buy 1 SSD drive and replace the first (boot) hard disk drive. I don't know if it works or not.

    I want to buy a SSD Samsung 840 EVO 250 GB SATA III (MZ-7TE250BW), 2.5 ", dimensions: 100 x 69 x 7 mm

I have to: 1 x 1 TB HARD drive (as a secondary drive) + 1 x 250 GB SSD SATA3 (as your startup with system disk)

    Is this ok?

    I found some info, that:

    Supports a 6.35 cm (2.5 in) 300 GB or 160 GB SSD (SSD) drive in 7, 0 - mm (. 28 - in.) thick

    Supports 6.35 cm (2.5 in) hard disks to 12.7 mm (. 50-in) and a height of 9.5 mm (. 37 - in)

Is it not this Samsung SSD too big?

I also found information on envy 17 series, which:

Supports the following single hard drive/solid-state drive combination configurations:
    ● 1-TB, 5400-rpm, 12.7-mm hard drive × 1 + 300-GB solid-state drive

    and also:

NOTE: Supports RAID-0 as default for all dual hard drive/solid-state drive combination configurations.

So, first of all should I disable RAID-0?

Thank you for your help and sorry for my English

In fact, I have the same model laptop PC series. You will have no problem replacing the mechanical main hard drive with an SSD. The Evo to Samsung 250 Gig is a very good choice. I suggest you get cloning software, put the SSD in the second slot, start from cloning software and copy (clone) the startup disk for the SSD. You'll slim down the contenst of the diskette of starting less than 250 concerts to achieve, but you can store files off to the second disk of 1 TB in the process. There are other ways to do this post if you have any questions.

Here is a video showing how to install the hard drive.

    https://www.YouTube.com/watch?v=wx3dMGXrGCc

RAID-0 is supported, but you wouldn't want as a second hard drive with an SSD. If your readers are appearing as volumes of letters separated in 'the PC' or 'Computer' then RAID-0 does not exist and you shouldn't have to do any disorder in the BIOS.

  • HP dv7-6b50eb: HP recovery launches the cloned SSD, impossible to install win7 on the SSD.

    Hello

I recently bought an SSD to accelerate my HP DV7. So I tried to clone my previous 1 TB to my 250 GB SSD hdd, but it seems that it's quite simple. :-(.

I have created the exact same partitions (with the same size, orders, except for my main Windows partition type of course being given my SSD is much smaller) on the SSD as on my old Hdd. After that I made an exact copy of each 3 partitions (HP Recovery partition, system and tools Hp) but instead of copying the windows partition, I left a void on the SSD as the size of the Windows on the old hard drive partition is larger (the data) than the available size on the remaining on the SSD partition. I thought that I could boot on the SSD drive and start the restore process to install Win7 on the empty partition. But when I restart the pc, it does not seem to recognize the boot SSD partition, he prefers not to say "No operating system found".

I also tried to activate the 3 partition directly (which is the recovery partition) to directly on boot as the partition, but it did not work either. The partition to activate before it was the 1st partition (which is the SYSTEM partition), but he has not worked either.

Can someone help me do that cloning to work?

FYI, I did the cloning and the creation of the partition using fdisk and dd on ubuntu.

    Thank you.

    Hi Wawood and Mista B,.

Thanks for your comments I have a previous message, but strangely I have not found trace of the previous message, maybe I forgot to press the 'POST' button:-s.

In any case, I was thinking that I understand your remarks Wawood but my goal isn't specifically for the windows on my new SSD partition (not interested in reducing the windows partition, it is just a statement), it was ok for me to any re - install from the recovery partition, a windows 7 from scratch.

And I'd say Mista B by saying that it would have been stupid HP do not allow someone to use the recovery on the same pc partition, just because it has a different hard drive.

Finally, I managed to do what I wanted to for those who are interested (HP is not so stupid after all:-p), here's the method I used to clone my hard drive of 1 TB to my 250 GB SSD and keep all the native HP (recovery, hp_tools, System) partitions with a 1 TB hard drive works correctly.

    So what I have is:

-J' put the SSD as a second drive on my laptop (I guess it should work in the same way if connected by USB)

-J' I started my pc and downloaded the EaseUs partition master

-J' ran the program and began by doing a thorough cleaning of the SSD

-J' made a copy of the system partition of my hard drive of 1 TB to my SSD

-J' made a copy of the partition my hard drive of 1 TB HP_TOOLS to my SSD

-J' made a copy of the recovery of my 1 TB hard drive partition to my SSD

-J' created a new empty NTFS partition in the remaining partition

I'm done with the same exact score as agenda in my 1 TB HDD.

    1. THE SYSTEM

    2 NTFS empty

    3 recovery

    4.HP_TOOLS

After that my SSD was not bootable, because the MBR has not yet been copied.

Then I started a live CD of Ubuntu and I installed boot-repair and he ran.

I chose the advanced options and set set the mbr and boot from the partition 3.

I then put the partition recovery (partition 3) as being ACTIVE.

I removed the hard drive of 1 TB of the laptop (to avoid any error during execution of recovery which ends with the recovered 1To:-p) beeing and replaced it with the SSD.

I then rebooted the laptop and it starts directly on the recovery partition. I finished in the recovery strategy (I could not choose the recovery from an earlier point in time given that the windows partition is empty (no windows backup)).

I chose over the full restore, the slight recovery with only OS and drivers and it does the job of recovery. Now that the of what I write this resolved thread :-).

Hope this helps some people out there with the same questions.

  • The upgrade of the SSD on my laptop from Alienware 17

Hello. I just got my new laptop Alienware 17 game and so far, I am VERY impressed with its performance. Frame rates are amazing in everything I tried, and it remains very cool compared to my laptop XPS15. It has a 'boot' of 256 GB drive and a dish of 5 400 rpm 1 TB disk for storing data.

I want to improve the SSD 256 GB for a 1 TB SSD. I bought the 1 TB SSD and cloned the 256 GB for it. I opened the laptop according to the manual and looked at the "primary" hard disk, expected to be the 256 GB SSD but rather what I found in this slot machine is the data of 5 400 rpm 1 TB drive. Research in the 'secondary' Bay, I see that it is empty. I can't put anything I want on the 256 GB SSD, that's why I bought the 1 TB SSD. Where the 256 GB SSD, and how will install the SSD 1 TB as primary drive (boot)?

I also intend to upgrade the flat disc at 1 to 7 200 RPM SSHD (Solid State Hybrid Drive) after the SSD upgrade. I need first of all put the SSD well. Does anyone know how to do this?

Thanks for listening, and I'll be happily play until I can find an answer.

    Best,

    Marc

Here's what I decided to do:

Keep the record of 256 GB m2 for start-up and cache. The CT 1 SSD is the main location for my apps and games. I removed the disc 5 400 rpm and put a 1 to 7 200 RPM SSHD in the secondary location. The 5 400 1 TB drive is now in surplus but can be used for other purposes. Everything seems to work properly.

Thanks for all your comments, it's much appreciated.

    Best,

    Marc

  • How to change the product ID of Windows 7, when you put the disc in the other PC

I PC_1 with an SSD and a valid license of Windows 7 OEM (HP).  I want to put this SSD in a new, more powerful PC_2.  PC_2 holds a valid license of Windows 7 OEM (Packard Bell).

    My thoughts are:

1 use Double driver to make a backup of all the PC_2 drivers.  Use ABR Activation Backup and Restore to save the certificate key and activation license for W7 on PC_2

2 put the SSD in PC_2 and change the license key and activation of the certificate (it has the PC_1 keys/certificates) to the PC_2 keys/certificates

    3. install missing drivers to disk backup Double.

The problem is How to change the key/certificate in step 2?

Of course I could rebuild W7 on the SSD and give him the key to license PC_2 for the reconstruction, but that would mean reinstall all my other programs that I prefer not to do so.  I downloaded and still have, a copy of W7 iso website digitalrivers if this can help.

    Thank you

Put the SSD from PC 1, PC 2 and startup, update drivers, and change it to the product key located on the certificate of authenticity.

As long as they are running the same edition should not be a problem.

Click Start, right click on computer

    Click on properties

Scroll down to the Windows Activation

Click on the link 'change product key '.

Enter the product key located on the COA sticker attached to the bottom of your laptop or in the battery compartment. Click next to activate via the Internet.

  • Change HDD to the SSD, what are the options?

Hi guys, new to the forum, I just bought a thinkpad x130e during a sales event on one of the local retailer, pretty excited, because I like the rugged design.

I am looking to upgrade to 320G HDD for one SSD 128G... but I have no installation disc 7 windows very practical, so, what are the options for me to install the operating system (windows 7).

I don't know if there is a way to transfer the whole of the SSD HARD drive? is there a trick to perform? or quite simply, I just bought the new copy of windows?

COS, I noticed that I have a windows7 pro product key at the bottom of my thinkpad, I kinda don't want to lose money.

    Help, please...

You don't need to buy another copy of Win7. You will need

1 SSD. It has to be is not 7mm thick, the most common 9.5 mm thick.

2 USB box for your HARD drive,

    3. software to "clone" the content of your disk to your SSD. Acronis True Image is a well-respected package that does this. There are also a few free utilities that can do this, however, I'm not familiar with them.

    Procedure:

    1. move the HARD disc on the outer envelope.

2 put the SSD in the X130e.

3 reboot from the HARD disk. (You need to interrupt the boot with the blue ThinkVantage button to specify).

    4. install Acronis (or equivalent).

5 RIP clone disk. You will have to tell the software how you resize partitions because you go to a smaller drive.

    6 restart from SSD.

OK, I saw the pictures, SATA HDD0 takes precedence, so any SSD is here, it will give the list only HDD0.

    It's strange but...

the SSD 2 have the same content?

It is not a sure way to start under UEFI, since that will be managed by the windows Boot Manager.
