  (2) build a new will to server ESXi 4 the same configuration (on a larger USB) and swap them?  Would this work?  He would recognize my existing SAS drives I use for VMDK files and allow me to import virtual machines?  I use all local drives without a SAN connection.

• ESXi 5.5 Remote Shutdown - HA Complications

  I am currently working on a remote desktop that has ESXi environment locally with centralized vCenter.  Here's the basic idea and my question.

  Environment:

  • Remote Desktop
    • 5.1 & 5.5 ESXi servers
      • SAN storage
    • WAN connectivity
    • UPS
      • APC, Eaton, MGE
  • DC plant
    • vCenter

  Location:

  • Power loss of remote offices
    • Usually your WAN connection will be lost at the same time

  Process:

  1. UPS monitor
     1. Controlled via a RaspberryPI (need something outside the VM environment)
  2. Monitor detects the power issue
     1. Stop all virtual machines residing on ESXi hosts
     2. Put the ESXi in maintenance mode
     3. Be able to stop the ESXi hosts
     4. Judgment of the SAN

  Question:

  • Since these ESXi hosts run HA, what is happening (with the process protection AP) what VMs are shutdown or ESXi is stopped?  (remember, there is no communication with vCenter at this point because you lost your WAN)
    • Scenario 1:
      • VMS in protected mode are stop on ESXi02
        • SE HA on the ESXi01 think this is a mistake and try to recover the virtual machine on ESXi01?
    • Scenario 2:
      • ESXi02 stopped all it of VM and now power off
        • ESXi01 think ESXi02 is isolated and now try to recover these VM on ESXi01?

  I'll assume that your remote site is it's own cluster? If this is not the case, there are a number of additional complications that would take a lot of time to enter.

  Also, remember that the HA process is independent of vCenter. It requires not vCenter to use, just for the installation/configuration changes.

• ESXi 5.5u1 added iscsi storage adapter - reboot and now vSphere Client could not connect to "my ip" an unknown error has occurred.  The server could not interpret the customer's request.  The remote server returned an error (503) server unavailable

  I think I saw that I was wrong.  In fact, I applied two patches when only suited. I started with 5.5u1rollup2 and then applied the ESXi550-201404001 and ESXi550-201404020.  Strangely I did not t o had problems until I worked with iSCSI.

  VMware KB: Installation of patches on an ESXi host from the command-line 5.x

  1. Download the update and transfer it to any store of data that is available for the ESXi host
  2. Connect to the host via SSH ESXi
  3. Put the ESXi host in maintenance mode.

  # vim - cmd hostsvc/maintenance_mode_enter

  4. go to the directory on the data store where the patch file was transferred to and verify that the file exists:

  # cdvmfs/volumes/Datastore/DirectoryName
  # ls

  Verify that you can see the file that you downloaded. I guess that the file you downloaded is in zip format. In this case,.

• Networking question in VMware Workstation / nested ESXi network configuration problem

  I am trying to set up a virtual lab, I setup a domain, a vcenter server and up to 1 ESXi host controller.

  I am really struggling with the network aspect in establishing a vmnic for storing shared, please see the attached screenshots and a few questions:

  1. Is a vmnic a real network map? or vmnic correspond to "network adapters" that you put in place since the setting of your virtual machine?

  I followed a tutorial and implement 3 NICs on the ESXi host, in Bridge mode, I tried this in my configuration of vmworkstation and I lose the connection to my server vcenter to the ESXi host.

  See screenshot attached to how I configured my ESXi host, screenshot is called 'screenshot2esxihost network', I run got each of the maps defined on NAT network.

  

  See also the screenshot of how I have my configuration of network settings in my VMWare Workstation, screenshot is called "screenshot1. the tutorial does not show how it has its editor of the virtual network configuration, but it puts its ESXi host NICs in BRIDGED mode, and I'm guessing that you can set this time within the virtual network adapter. If someone could tell me what changes should I make in there and on the network cards in my ESXi host, which would be really useful.

  The vmnic is the rising 'physical' of an ESXi host. So with the 3 network cards that you configured for the host in VMware Workstation you will see under "Network adapters" and you can use them to vSwitches in the section "network".

• ESXi 4.1 using VMware Update Manager Update

  This is my first time using Update Manager to update an ESXi host.  I have vCenter server and the Update Manager Server installed on a physical machine that has ODBC connections to a database Microsoft SQL on a computer located on my single ESXi 4.1 host virtual.  Realizing that I have to put the ESXi host in maintenance mode in order to upgrade to the latest version, I don't know how to and can continue to use vCenter Update Manager.  My only guess is that I'll have my SQL Server VM to vMotion to another ESXi host and have somehow vCenter and Manager update access to this database in order to stop the VM of the SQL Server to put the host in maintenance mode?  I tried to close the VM of SQL Server when you are connected to vCenter but I lost all ability to do something immediately.  My DC is also on that same host ESXi as well, closing the domain controller affect as well?

  If you have only an ESXi server and your VC / database etc all SimCity.EA.com ESXi host, you could consider only the upgrade without using VUM?

  If your ESX host is in a cluster, the 'Miantenance Mode' operation will be vMotion virtual machines to the other hhosts and you should have no problem.

  I have a test environment before going to Production Server two ESXi410 installed (1 ESXi and ESXi-2)

  Option1: ESXi-1, I've got vCenter and Update Manager. According to the documentation, I tried to use update manager add-in for vcenter. That went well to update host ESXi-2 with ESXi410 - 201011001.zip.

  No I haven't been in trouble for the installation of the update on the ESXi-1 which has the Update Manager. As I close the virtual machine and put the ESXi-1 in Maintenance mode.

  Option2: allowing the Support of Local and Remote Tech support (SSH) technology. In this way, I copied the file to update ESXi-1 data source using PuTTY. But esxupdate command does not find the file in the path (/ vmfs/volumes/datastore1/filename.zip). Then I copied to/var/tmp/cache and use the command esxupdate - bundle = filename.zip update. It also worked well.

  But the thing I've read in your documentation to use Install-VMHostPatch did not help me.

  Option 3: of vSphere PowerCLI. > Install-VMHostPatch - VMHost /var/tmp/cache/ESXi410-201011001.zip IP - HostPath-server IP - confirm

  gave me an error 5 No. OSError file or directory.

  Yet once, I tried to change the path to the data store:

  Hello

  Install-VMHostPatch will work for you only if you want to update the ESX host, it will not help for virtual machines. It is the snap another powershell called VUM PowerCLI that you can download from here http://vmware.com/go/powercliupdate. If you want to use that snap-in you should have installed VUM server.

  Now on your current number. The answer that Luc wrote should work for you. In this example, there is a step that downloads patch files manually. The reason for this is the small size partitions on ESXi and usually there is no enough space to download large patch in the temporary folder of ESXi.

  In fact, you can benefit from this approach - if all your ESXi boxes are connected to the shared storage, you can download the patches on this storage once and then upgrade one by one.

  I have what should be a relatively simple matter, but I can't find a clear answer.

  I want to do a ping from an ESXi4 host iSCSI targets.  I do do not want to put the ESXi host mode not supported.

  Is there a way to do this?  I read you can do via the RCLI, but I don't see anywhere where it says this in the doco or how to do it.

  You can use the test within the DCUI management network option, but I wouldn't worry about the use of ping with TSM (ping and ping6 both run vmkping so it's okay that you use).

  (143129) I have two broadcom netxtreme NIC. They are connected to two

  first port of physical switch port (Hp procurve) .the is vlan tagged 101

  and the other is vlan tagged 103. I activated the vlan on both

  Broadcom. I put on esxi, 101 for the vlan of the first card network (for virtual machine Manager)

  and vlan 103 for the second (for the VM).

  Finally, the two broadcom ping anything.

  Can someone help me?

  I have a poweredge server 2950 with esxi 3.5 (build 143129). There are two

  broadcom netxtreme II plugged into two VLANs different cards. I have

  activated the VLAN in the broadcom bios. the two broadcom are connected

  to two different ports with two VLANS different: 101 and 103. My VM

  Manager is on the Prime Minister vlan (101) on the 1 NIC. the second NIC is

  plugged on the vlan 103 pour VM. But I can't ping.

  IS preferable, but might need to reconfigure the switch. Maybe you transfer the link or document to your networking guy for advice.

  I need to generate a report in the answers that will show me the following information:

  First of all, I'm not sure why people think put URGENT in the title, we look at this thread before the others?

  You google OBIEE lineage reports? You fully understand the components of presentation Services and BI Servef?

  What you need to do is run an export of the Documentation of the repository of the administration tool - this will give you Phyiscal layer thanks to the thematic mapping (presentation layer).

  Then run an export of reports catalog manager in your presentation catalog, you can remove all the attributes of a request for responses given you asked, you can run a dashboard report since catalog also Manager if you want to look further.

  Once you have the two outputs, I suggest you that you load them into a database table, so you can reach them effectively, their model in your SPR and you have your equiverlant to the Disco EUL Admin layer.
