Q about formatting hard drive

Hello

Ive been having some problems with my pc lately, I found 2 Trojan horses and things started to slow down. So I did system restore, but now everything is scrwed. For example, I look for a file in Start button and I find that file and I fly over to see the location of the file and the location is actually where it was before I did the system restore. So results in some research could not catch up the system, so theyre reports restore old locations. And when I click on the object sought, it is said that it is not found.

And everything is still slower, I click on some exe. files and it literally takes 5-6 minutes for it to open, and for some reason, my firefox has missing modules. Everything is just messed up. So Im thinking to do system recovery/format.

I have just a problem in this regard because I made a lot of system recovery on my old pc (XP) and all used to worsen. Installed applications would not work even if they were still installed, there would be a ton of left over files and is feeling just empty, I mean, it would be a mess, resutls research would provide erroneous results, things would not be open or start when you clicked on them, on the start menu. It would be like nuking a place and make heaps of rubble and bodies and collapsed buildings left.

So im asking is it possible to completely back to factory settings, simply do a full reboot, start over, start as I bought the pc, without having any of these happen?

Thank you

  • Installation of SP3 on a newly formatted HARD drive

    Hello

I have a few questions about the installation of Windows XP Service Packs on newly formatted hard drives.

Recently I have formatted a new HARD drive and installed Windows XP Home Edition. In order to be upgraded to Service Pack 1 to 3, it is recommended to connect to Windows Update and download and install it from there. I did this and was prompted to install Service Pack 2. During the last steps of the installation (I think that durng the procedure of 'start process'), I lost Internet connectivity and was impossible to reconnect (I use a USB dongle. I think that a virus infection is interfering with the connection). That's why I had to restart my computer for the installation could be completed, but it seemed to be successful that I was able to reboot without any problem. I assume that the installation had actually finished and it was just reset stage that was interrupted.

Question: even if the installation of Service Pack 2 has not finished and my machine seems to be fine, reinstall Service Pack 2 in order to ensure that it is completely installed?

Question: Why should I install SP2? If Service Pack 3 contains all fixes and features of all previous Service Packs and it is acceptable to upgrade to Service Pack 1 to 3 directly, why didn't Windows Update invite me to install Service Pack 3 instead?

Question: I have found a manual download of Service Pack 3 (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=5b33b5a8-5e76-401f-be08-1e1555d4f3d4&displaylang=en), but Microsoft strongly recommends that use you it only on machines in a network, and not on a single computer. Y at - it hurt to do?

A question here, is that if Microsoft recommends that download the latest Service Packs of Windows Update online, so it seems not possible to fully guarantee your Windows installation before connecting the interest for the first time. All the while I'm software download and installation of Service Pack 2, malware, worms and viruses have been infecting my computer (Avast! blocked a malware exploit). So even if I managed to upgrade to Service Pack 3, my machine is already infected.

Is there a recommended way to upgrade to Service Pack 3 before you connect to the Internet for the first time?

    Thank you

Iso file of windows xp can directly be installed USB on a formatted hard drive?

    Not directly.

There is a SMALL chance that if your hardware supports it (unfortunately never say you anything on your PC or BIOS), you can boot from a USB stick or an optical drive and install Windows XP like this.
    But it is unlikely.
In addition, tell us what you mean by 'windows xp iso file. This is very vague, and we do not know what you are talking about.

Use utility diagnostics by the hard drive manufacturer (usually available from the web page of the manufacturer of the hard drive) to perform a complete diagnosis and zeros (low-level format) on disk.

  • Satellite A210 - 17l BIos update to take care of advanced format HARD drive problem

    Hi all

Really hoping someone can help me with this.

My old HDD not was not so I cloned the entire disc before it failed. -Just in time, too.

    I ordered a new drive - it's a WD scorpio black - Advanced format.

Unfortunately I can't get my picture on this new album.

Also, I am unable to do a reinstall with the original restore also cd because it doesn't have service pack 1 and that means that it can't recognize the HD.

In any case id prefer to be able to restore my image and not make a re-install when even if possible.

    So my question is this:

Y at - it an update of the bios I can ask my another pc version 2.00 is available which will include options to change the options of ide drive - ahci?

It's the only solution I can think of-bearing in mind I do not have an operating system installed, so the alignment tools are not an option as another fix. -Fast technology of storage Intel drivers do not work, because I have an AMD athlon processor.

So is there any BIOS I can Flash my computer with to activate the options mentioned?

I have a method to Flash the bios with a BONE, so this isn't a problem.

Also other suggestions for workaround on this more than welcome.

    Thanks :))

    The_red_pill.

    Hello

Update BIOS don t help you. To my knowledge, it does not add additional options such as a switch between AHCI and compatible mode.
In addition, you can use ANY BIOS. You must use the BIOS that came out for the model of laptop. But as I said, this isn't a solution.

In addition, the image of Toshiba already contains all the drivers in order to install the system. It s any SP1 isn t the image part.

I guess you're talking about Vista OS, given that the laptop came with pre-installed Vista OS. http://www.Toshiba.co.UK/discontinued-products/Equium-A210-17I/

I recommend you format the HARD drive first.
Use a tool called Gparted. You can create a bootable USB key containing this tool.
This allows to start Notepad in order to format the HARD drive.

  • Can I format HARD drive and reinstall Windows 7 on the Qosmio F60 without CD

I think my hard drive is faulty on my F60 Quosmio so I want to reformat the hard drive to see if that will fix it. But I don't have the original packaging and the information with me at the moment so I don't know if it came with a windows 7 CD or not. Whatever it is, I don't have the CD.

I found on the net that most manufacturer who deliver without CD include a "recovery partition" or "factory image partition" which you can access during startup. Anyone know if the F60 Quosmio comes with a CD or if she has this recovery partition or partition image factory? Or do you know if there is a way I can check if my computer is it?

If you have more information about the formatting of the hard drive and reinstall windows 7 without the CD please let me know.

    Thank you.

The laptop came with a Windows disc, because there is a Toshiba recovery disc Creator called tool which create the recovery disk.

The recovery partition was available and it allows you to recover the laptop without the use of the recovery disk, but it does not work if the HARD drive has failed.

  • Recovery CD don't reinstall it Satellite M300 correctly after formatting HARD drive

    Hi all

After having my original problem to create rescue disks resolved with your help (thanks again), I'm at the formatting of hard drives of 300. After that, I want to do a fresh install of Ubuntu.
But I must admit I'm rather nervous about all this.

    So 2 questions:

1 has anyone done this before and how it worked?
    2. I would be able to get the M300 back to the form using the reinstallation discs, AFTER formatting the HARD drive

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello

Usually the Vista Toshiba Recovery DVD should reinstall everything again. Simply said, it must affect the M300 return to the factory settings.
The use of the recovery DVDs is very simple.

You must boot from the recovery DVD and must follow the instructions on the screen!
But note; The recovery DVDs will format the entire HARD drive... as the partitions created, etc...

    That s it.

  • Format HARD drive or re - install

    Pavilion g6 1201-tx. Win 7 HB 64 bit. HARD drive 640 GB.

For a year now, I bought g6. I think g6 went too slow, clumsy, and it does not give me performance as expected from it.

So should I format drive HARD whole, delete all partitions, repartition the and do all of these tasks and then re-install OR

    should I just re-install Win 7?

    Issues related to the:

    (1) should I use the recovery discs to re - install Win 7 or I can download a newer version of Win 7 HB 64 bits from Microsoft so that it will contain all the updates?

    (2) If I use recovery disks, then it will format my default HARD drive or there is the option to choose the partition to install? He'll take care of the boot (partiton ID:0) partition ?

It will create HP_TOOLS and partition recovery again on my HARD drive as it was when I bought my g6?

    (3) If I install downloaded Win 7 HB, which HP software are a MUST to install as software framework and mention also why necessary?

    (4) I want to install 1 or several Linux distributions, then what should be the order of partition? Such as:

    C for Win 7
    D for the personal data
    E for Linux
    F for Swap
    G for Linux_2
    and so on.

Who should be the extended partition ?

How much space should be given for Win 7: C drive? 50 GB enough for all the software basic / essential?

I have to manually resize the aura boot partition? What should be its size. 200 MB? I want to install Linux so GRUB can take more space.

    Thank you!

    Say hello to new VAHPG6.

The boot partition will be formatted by the recovery process.  I don't think, however, that you will need more than 200 MB to install GRUB.  So, I'd leave this one partition.

This guide should be useful for the dual-boot.  If you read the section about dual boot Vista and Linux (with Vista installed first), he must have some of the answers you're looking for.  Windows Vista is pretty close to Windows 7 that the instructions would be the same.

    Have a great day.

  • Formatting hard drive using Vista Home Premium

I am a 1.5 TB hard drive formatting and it seems to be suspended at around 73% is - this normal and how many hours must this process normally take. I had to cancel the formatting process, once for lack of time, but he had run for about 12 hours. There was a quick format option, but I decided not to take this option. Still, the process seems running and says in disk management that the hard drive is formatted. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Pendockman,

Most users use the quick format option. 1.5 TB of hard disk is a lot of space for formatting. It also depends on whether the player is connected or connected via USB internally. USB, of course, will be the slowest. A quick Google, I saw 1.5 hours for well over 12 hours. If fully shaped many users start the process in the night and then go to bed and hope that the process is complete the next morning.

If it is a new drive, then it would have been formatted by the manufacturer.

Unfortunately, you have only two options. 1 / a quick format or 2 / launch a full format and just leave until she finishes.
