Queries on techniques of management of memory in VMware

Hello

A query on techniques of management of memory in VMware:

Suppose that my ESX 4.1 server runs on a host having 8 GB of RAM. Now I create five virtual machines with Windows 2003 guest OS and specify a reserve of memory of 1 GB. In this case, assume that I turn on all five VMs sequentially VM1 to VM5. Assume VM4 and VM5 are inactive (no activity inside the BONE invited) and VM1, VM2, VM3 run under maximum loads. In this case the VMKernel dynamically allocate the memory of VM4 VM5 of other three virtual machines running?

I guess the real issue here is booking: 1 GB memory must be free on the host to start a virtual machine in this case. However if the guest OS is not heavily loaded would be the VMKernel still swap pages of memory to the VM slowed using memory management techniques ESX?

Thanks, Vivek

Yes - is VM4 VM5 do not use the full reservation of memory 1 GB memory will be available to other virtual machines - once these virtual machines started memory bemanding memory will be recovered and given to those virtual machines

Yes - even if the virtual machine is not under heavy load, but other VMS are it will swap memory for the by the VM vmkernel swap file

  • Management of memory using integrated Capture issues

    Hello

I have several questions about memory management using integrated Capture process.

    My env is:

Oracle Database 11.2.0.4 with the parameter enable_goldengate_replication = true.

    Version 11.2.1.0.3 OGGCORE_11.2.1.0.3_PLATFORMS_120823.1258 14400833

    Windows x 64 (optimized), Oracle 11 g on August 23, 2012 16:50:36

Using it integrated capture on 11.2.0.4 environment mode, the capture process fails with the error:

ERROR OGG -02050 not enough memory to honor required database MAX_SGA_SIZE 128.

    Le parameters are:

    TranlogOptions IntegratedParams () max_sga_size 128)

    I put the parameter l MEMORY_TARGET to 1.5 GB.

The way of rethink the role the problem is to set the STREAMS_POOL_SIZE to at least 128 MB and the process already began.

    However,.

I have several questions about the This behavior:

    1. why not GG dynamic memory pool streamsS value?

    2. If there is no pressure on streams_pool memory, the system would be able to allocate more dynamic memory?

3 How you can determine If assigned to a procedure of collection of memory is enough?

Any changes to the level 12 c?

    Thank you very much.

    Hello

I created a model of database with dbca (automatic configured memory management).

I want to create a base using this template, I've modified my template change the name of the database.

    I run dbca in silent mode: dbca-silent - createDatabase-templateName - C:\temp\TEST.dbt - gdbname TEST - sid TEST

Once installation is complete, I noticed that memory_target = 0

    Do you have an explanation?

  • Use of the Task Manager physical memory is not not to use processes

I have seen this topic discussed it before, but I did not understand what is happening here.

-J' have one windows server 2008 with 8 GB or ram configured, with the limit set to unlimited and booking made 8 GB.

-When you look in the Task Manager, I see the physical memory to 88% and the bar bed to 7.10 GB.

-Adding all process memory usage, it is only about 2 GB.

-In another thread, that I read that it was because he had a deadline, and hot air balloon began.

-J' I monitor the server via SNMP and have alerted all the time that this server joined more than 90% ram usage.

-The Guest server is correct use of the physical memory Task Manager?

-If it is not, and is caused by the ESX host, how can I fix it to properly monitor the comment server.

The question here is how windows works,

You reserve memory and don't have no limits, so there is no balloon showing VMs to appear that they have high memory use when they are not actually in some cases.

Processes that Task Manager displays is not all that is running or being eaten, I know when working with SQL, you have FEAR that can use a ton on memory, but there is no process to show.

Best thing to do is to run RAMMAP a sys internals tool that will show you exactly what is using the memory in windows.

  • How can I manage my memory to Win 8

I am constantly missing memory f when you try to use Chrome or Firefox on the internet.  I mem 4 supplied with the computer.

    Hi Earl,

I would like to get more information about the issue to help you better. Please answer the following questions:

    1. The amount of RAM is installed on the computer? How much virtual memory space is available in the computer?
    2. The problem only occurs when using Chrome or Firefox?
    3. You did changes to the computer before the show?

I suggest you run the Memory Diagnostic tool. Follow the steps to run the Memory Diagnostic tool:
    a. compress the window key + W key on the keyboard and type 'memory' without the quotes.
    b. click on "diagnose your computer memory problems".
    c. Select the recommended option to run the tool.

  • BlackBerry smartphones is a manager of memory for 8310?

I'm suddenly having the battery draining 50 percent from one day to the next and would like to see what actually works and also to be able to kill an application or service that could be the cause of the problem. Is there an app for that, or a method internal to do?

No, GPS se uses quite a lot of power. BUT the problem is that most applications of mapping (BBMaps, Google Maps, etc..) Do not use a lot of battery. I bet that you have left an open in the background mapping application.

  • Manage virtual networks in vmware player on Linux Mint

    Hi all

Can someone point out how manage virtual networks on the Vmware player on Ubuntu/Linux mint?

It would have been more useful if you had included the VMware Player version and the version of the host operating system that you are using!

Since you didn't say what version of VMware Player or a version of the host OS, I can only say what follows if applies to what I the test and this is VMware Player 5.0.2 under Ubuntu 13.04.

In a Terminal, run the following command (Tip: copy / paste, as is, to avoid typos.):

    sudo ln-s/usr/lib/vmware/bin/vmware-netcfg/usr/bin/vmware-netcfg

Now to bring up the virtual network editor use the following command in a Terminal:

    sudo vmware-netcfg

Note that you can get an error message similar to the following:

    (vmware-netcfg: #): IBUS-WARNING *: the owner of /home/$USER/.config/ibus/bus is not root! »

This seems to be a bug , but I do not think that this will affect the actual use of the virtual network Editor.

  • Manager Update on the VMware host updated

I have two VMware hosts with vCenterServer running in a virtual machine on a host.  Manager of update is loaded and it works very well.

I would like to be updated (install patches) the host who has VCenterServer on this.  Technical support said that he could not tell me that it was OK to make a staging of the update with UpdateManager on the host.  My plan was to push updates on, then use vSphere client to manually restart the host that is home to the VCenterServer.  It makes sense that it would work, but the tech told me to create a second vCenterServer on the other host.  It's a lot of work.

Anyone has successfully done what I was planning to do?  I look at UpdateManager patch the first host, it seems that Update Manager pushes updates to the host, and then goes into maintenance mode and restarts.  Why not push updates, then restart manually?

Any other suggestions or ways to do from the console?

You can update the hosts through command-line if you stop vcenter.

  • Allocation of memory in vmware workstation

I'm new to vmware.  I have a server I'll test this on.  I have a Server Windows 2008 R2 with 4 GB of memory.  If I install vmware workstation on it and install a virtual machine Windows XP with 1 GB of RAM allocated to it, does this mean that when the virtual machine is running the XP virtual machine has 1 GB of memory to use the host (Windows 2008) system will have 3 GB for himself to use?

Thanks for any advice in advance.

If your virtual machine is fully using the 1 GB or RAM, then Yes, you are correct - but remember that Workstation is just an application that runs on your server, so if the virtual machine does not all allocated memory, the application will require all this memory and so you will have more memory available for the physical host.

  • Use of memory on VMware Server 2.02

    Hello

I put the limit of my operating system memory to 256 MB and it takes two times more memory, when I look at my processes. IM using Debian Lenny on the host and the guest operating system is the same. What could be the problem? I read that it should not take more, you allocate.

Here's my ps to the report host:

And VMware WebUI shows that the guest takes about 33 MB of memory.

It's because of the overhead of memory. Take a look at table of overhead costs for overhead at http://pubs.vmware.com/vi301/resmgmt/wwhelp/wwhimpl/common/html/wwhelp.htm?context=resmgmt&file=vc_advanced_mgmt.11.18.html

So you are saying I need to download the latest version of ESX/vSphere and then extract the VM Tools of which rpm?

It might be a way to get them, if you are unable to install the product.

The version will say vSphere 4.0 be OK for ESXi 3.5 VMs?

    Yes
