Mick,

Hello

You have the best player for the laptop, you may have. You can use conventional disc (up to 500 to 750 GB), but none of them are as fast as the solid state drive. I guess that the laptop is a dv7-4000 series. This laptop does not support SATA III connection because a SATA III SSD is the only drive faster than what you got.

You can adapt any 2.5 "SATA HDD, just remove the old one from the caddy (if any) and, quite simply, a new. If you want news, then visit Amazon Toshiba 640 GB HDD because they have a list. I'm sure you could find a better and probably cheaper alternative if you google 2.5 "SATA hard drive. • HP Pavilion dv6-6060ep: question to replace HARD drive

    Hello.

I would like to know if replacing the current 500 Gb Hdd with a SSD would cancel or in any way affect my warranty coverage. The laptop is a year old. Thanks in advance for any assistance of withy this question.

    Hello:

There should be no problem with the warranty as long as you don't break something trying to install the HARD drive.

HP will not support the SSD however and your recovery disks don't work because the new drive must be the same size the 500 GB HARD drive you removed.

I have a workaround for the problem of recovery disk...

According to the specifications of your PC system, it came with W7 Home Premium 64-bit.

It must be in English, French or Spanish version too.

If so, download the ISO W7 Home Premium 64 bit on the link below.

Burn the file on a disk using a program that can burn ISO files so the DVD is bootable DVD burning.

Burn at the lowest speed as possible.

Then use the product key 25 character on the bottom of your laptop computer to activate the installation.

  • Question of replacement hard drive HP s3720y

    Hello

I have a HP Pavilion Slimline s3720y with Windows Vista installed.  My hard drive needs to be replaced and I have a Seagate Barracuda 7200.11.  Will this work with my computer?  My plan is to restore my computer to the new hard drive with the system restore disks and then upgrade to Windows 8.  Are there compatibility problems?  Thank you very much for your help!

    Hello:

If the replacement of the hard disk you have is less than 2 TB and has a SATA interface, then it should work fine.

Regarding the W8, it is difficult to say whether or not it will work normally on your PC.

You can go to download W8 and before you actually buy it, he runs a check of compatibility on your PC.

Even if it passes there is no guarantee that the system will work.

There is no drivers for W8 on the assumption of your PC and driver page, so the upgrade will be risked.

  • Replacing hard drive HP Pavilion g4-1015dx

I recently acquired a HP Pavilion 1015dx g4 with a failing hard drive.

I was wondering if this computer supports SATA III drives specifically the

Western Digital laptop bare drives 500 GB WD Blue SATA III 5400 RPM 8 MB Cache Bulk/OEM hard drive WD5000LPVX

    Thank you!

    Here is the Service Manual:

    Manual

See page 51 for hard drive access. Note the connector that connects the bare hard drive to the motherboard. You will need to reuse the parts caddy/connector/mylar shield from the old drive.

Your laptop SATA ports are SATA II. In most cases, if it doesn't have USB 3.0, it also doesn't have SATA III. Your don't have any USB 3.0. However, SATA-III hard disks 2.5 inches wide and 7 or 9.5 mm thick will work fine. SATA III interface is backward compatible with SATA-II.  I guess that you have chosen the WD Blue 5400 RPM drive due to their low cost, but it would be well worth an extra 10 or $15 to have a disk of 7200 RPM like the WD Black or this one:

  • Help! Replace HARD drive on Pavilion dm1z-2100 CTO

I've had this laptop for a few years and am very happy with it - recently, I decided that I wanted to replace the 320 GB HARD drive with a third party 256GB SSD.  I created the recovery media of six DVD disc via the HP Recovery Manager, replace the laptop hard drives and booted up with the recovery DVD.  The HP Recovery Manager offers 3 options for reformatting and reinstalling the software on the hard disk: System Recovery, Factory Reset and Image Recovery reduces to a minimum.

Try the system recovery and reduced Image Recovery seemed to work, as he cycled through all 6 DVD recovery and then prompted me to restart.  When I did, the two options by train several times, restarting the computer as usual ended with the prompt "no boot device - insert boot disk and press any key".  I tried the Recovery Manager factory reset option and it gave me this error message: "this computer's hard drive is smaller than the original shipped the drive.  The recovery process may not continue. »  (!!)

While HP Recovery Manager is concerned, he seems to have no way to reinstall my OS and start upward with my new SSD.  I don't think that there is not a way around it.  Anyone can shed some light?

    Thank you.

    This is not good.

Did you check the file size of the DVD and make sure it was the full 3. XX GB?

Sometimes you get the message the download is finished, but the downloaded file is smaller than the size it should have been.

    If it is fine...

If you have a 4 GB USB flash drive, go to plan b....

    Just follow these instructions...

Download the MS of W7 USB installation tool and read the instructions on the page to use.

    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/HTML/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool

You may also make this mod as I did if the flash tool-error.

Download the bootsect file form http://www.everettsporting.com/bootsect.zip

You will need to go into Control Panel, select display large icons, go to the icon of folder options, view tab, and select the hidden files and folders option.

Once downloaded, copy the BootSect.exe file in the same folder that contains the file of Windows7-USB-DVD-Download - Tool.exe installed. This file in Windows 7's default installation directory is C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Apps\Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool\

Run the application from the Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool as described on the Microsoft Store website. The end result will give you a boot USB flash drive that contains everything you need to install the 64 bit version of Windows 7.

  • Replacing hard drive HP Pavilion dv6500 (upgrade)

My HD just crushed and tries to find a new (better) compatible HD back in my computer.  Any suggestions or what card I need to pick up if it's compatible?

    Hello:

If you want good performance to a new hard drive, download a HDD SATA II 7 200 rpm of 500 GB or less.

Give the highest RPM faster search times but this will be at the expense of the life of the battery between charges.

It would be my first choice for a successor.

  • HP Pavilion 17: mouse pad does not work after replacing hard drive

    Hello

After replacing hard drive and installing windows 8.1, I can't use my mouse pad.

I installed the Synaptics driver but it didn't help.

How can I check that mousepad device is not damaged when replacing the hard drive and which also can I try to fix the mouse pad?

    USB mouse works fine.

    See you soon

The only way to be sure is to open it up and see if the touchpad cable was disconnected during the upgrade of the hard drive. That's my bet. Easy to forget when you're winding. You don't provide complete model number, but many of the recent models Pavilion 17 require removal of the cover together to get hard disk that requires disconnection of the touchpad cable.

  • Satellite L300D-10 q recovery DVD Can be used on the replacement hard drive?

    Hello

I was wondering if the DVD Recovery allows to install Vista on a replacement hard drive? The original hard drive is too small at 160 GB contain all the files that I use the virtual operating system image. The disk hard 500 GB of replacement must be large enough for that.

The reason why I need to Vista, it's that the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Ubuntu 8.04.1 and 8.10, cause the fan to run at full speed all the time which is very annoying. So for the moment I can only use Linux in a virtual machine.

I intend to stay with Toshiba, though, as my two latest portable Toshiba Satellite a PII and a PIII still work today, and both have had Linux on them.

Now, back to my story, I intend to remove the existing laptop, hard drive use DVD recovery to install to external USB 500 GB disk, replace the existing hard drive in starting up the laptop from the USB and copy my data overall. Before you reformat the old drive as external storage, I will replace in the laptop with 500 GB drive and the test so I can boot from the new drive.

Key question will be the change of equipment, i.e. the new hard disk of 500 GB prevent Vista to install or activate?

    Thank you very much

Vista itself can handle huge HARD drive sizes, but the question is: the recovery disc will be happy with 500 GB? The laptop will recognize 500 GB?

I think it will work very well, because the new laptops are released with 320 HARD drive. 500 GB is not far.

Its a few trial and error unless anyone here has tested a disc 500 GB HARD themselves.

  • 20-d113w want to: replacement hard drive

Hi, I looked around the Board for instructions on replacing hard drive. I intend to replace the original sata drive 1 TB with a seagate 1 TB sata3 drive. I know this is probably a stupid question, but just installing the new drive and run the recovery software, or something must be done again disc before I run the software. Thanks for any help you can give

If you reinstall from the recovery discs set, it will not make a difference.  If you use a cloning software, it may depend on the package.  If you need to reinstall using a Windows disk, it should be able to themselves deploy by asking the user questions.

  • Can you put a 500 g SATA hard drive in Pavilion a750w?

Can you put a 500 g SATA hard drive in Pavilion a750w?  The bios is version v3.26, and the operating system is XP with SP3.  40 gig HD is full and you are looking to replace it but do not know what the size limit is with this bios version.

Here are the specifications of your HP Pavilion a705w desktop. This is based on the assumption that you converted the 5 and 0 and the fact that you mentioned a 40 GB hard drive.

You already have the most current version of the BIOS of your computer and running the most recent service pack of Windows XP. Your computer and the operating system should support a drive of 500 GB without problem. The only problem is that your computer isn't any SATA ports, only 66/100 IDE (PATA). Look at local retailers and online for the IDE drives.

  • dv6700 broken HDD "#10009 replace hard drive".

Hi, my laptop model dv6700 and hard drive: 250 GB SATA. I made the recovery disc. Problem: disk hard abandoned recently and in the BIOS HARD drive health check, he showed '#10009 replace hard drive' query: 1) as I need to replace the hard drive, I want to upgrade to 500 GB. Is it possible or not? (2) if so, are there restrictions on the size, the brand of HARD drive? 3) once I have replace my HARD drive how to get my old OS (I have vista Home premium with the laptop)? (4) there will be a problem if I use my recovery on the new 500 GB HARD drive discs? (5) there will be a conflict in recognizing the new 500 GB HARD drive? Is there another way to solve this problem without replacement? Thanks in advance!

Here are the answers to your question.

    (1) you can switch to 500 GB and its possbile no problem

    (2) no constraint on the size or brand. You can use any brand or manufacturer of your choice

    (3) you need to install your operating system using recovery discs. There is a guide available on here

    (4) there will be no problems if you use recovery discs on the new HARD drive

    (5) there will be no conflict. If you face any issues, you can always post your request on the forums.

    (6) Unfortunately there is no other way. If the test HARD disk fails, it means that his party. Only option is to replace the HARD drive.
