Question of vCPU VCP

I was going back through a material and saw this question in the book of Brian Atkinson VCP and I do not know how to solve for the answer.

Q. you consider installing vCenter Server 5 in a virtual machine.  The vCenter Server uses a remote SQL database and will support 2 15 virtual machines and hosts.  VCPUs how should I start with during the construction of this virtual machine?  (Choose all that apply.)

A. two vCPUs with a carrot

B. a vCPU with two hearts

C. four vCPUs with a carrot

D. three vCPUs with two hearts

I understand that the default value for vCenter Server 5 requires A or B (above) to be a supported configuration.  Is - what the amount of host computers and virtual mater?   Y at - it of the other configurations taken in charge and how are they determined?

A. two vCPUs with a carrot

B. a vCPU with two hearts

> Is the amount of material and virtual hosts?

Yes, for the size of the database and (at one point) for vCenter performance - tho the impact will be greatest on the SQL Server.

And 2/15 is not the case near where it would be a problem.  Maybe 200/1500, depending on the logging level, # Admins etc etc.

> Are there any other supported configurations and how are they determined?

The Council of Europe (Center of Excellence) probably has a guide for this, but in the real world start with two and add more later if you see high CPU usage.

  • Question 2 Vcpu

Hi everyone, I have a question about having VM with 2 Vcpu.  The rule seems to be with VMware, start with 1 Vcpu and only add another if the virtual machine will actually use it.  The reasoning being he can slow performance due to wait the extra vcpu are available.

So my interpretation is this, if you have a virtual machine with 2 Vcpu and its really not using the extra vcpu, then when he needs to do something there is a chance that the virtual machine may need to wait longer for Cpu available, as it now takes 2 vcpu instead of 1.  What is called the time loan CPU.

    The above statement is correct?

If Yes, then can I guess, so only this VM would decrease in performance?  The server ESXi virtual machine runs on wont be affected by it correct?

The reason I ask is, we implemented just vRanger connection for our backups, we manage our connection vRanger server in a virtual machine.  Currently, there only 1 Vcpu.  VRanger connection recommended 2.  Then I took a glance at performance monitor, while it backs up and its pins to 100%.  Currently his only backup 2 VM.  When you want to add soon more VM from the backup, so im thinking that I should really adds 2 Vcpu.

Then when he actually runs the backup of the night, he will use actually 2 Vcpu, but during the day while his inaction, he used.

Now I don't like the performance on the VM Vranger during the day because it does nothing, so giving Vcpu 2 should not be a problem, but it slowing down the rest of my VM upward on this box ESXi, or the loan of time thing CPU only affects the virtual machine that has 2 Vcpu?

Im just worried if more commit vcpu on a virtual machine will affect other VMS on the box.

I hope that all makes sense.

    Thank you

    Mike

This is a good example of requiring a vCPU 2 VM.  If your vCPU is indexed and your work take too long CPU adding a second is a good choice.  During the day, slowed additional processors won't make a significant dent in your ESX performance.

Another note, the vRanger last login on ESXi 4.1 will allow the injection of all backups via the server connection vRanger, vRanger connection server writes these to the repository.  ESX ESX 4.1 is different, will write directly to the repository which is much more efficient.  I see this as a big disadvantage with vRanger connection and ESXi (4.1).

  • questions for examination VCP

Please can you help me to choose the best answer:

What is a reason valid do NOT set the processor on a single virtual computer affinity?

    A. definition the processor affinity will monopolize a CPU making it unusable for other VMs on the server.

    (B) a virtual machine with the processor affinity receive all its CPU reserved resources.

    C. CPU affinity settings are ignored when using VMotion.

    D. the processor affinity cannot be defined on hyper threaded systems.

    Answer: C or B

It is badly seen to ask questions that might be on the exam VCP - I just will tell you the CPU scheduling research how is handled by the vmkernel and see the documentation for Web access

  • questions of vCPU

    Hi all

I get the error message when you add VCPU 5 in Windows server 2008 R2 (64-bit)

My license is vSphere 4 Enterprise under license for 2 physical processors (1-6 cores per processor)

Could not find a host to turn on/off the virtual machine. The following faults explain why the host saved in not compatible.

Virtual machine has 5 virtual processors. but the host supports only 4. The number of virtual processors may be limited by the OS selected for the guest virtual computer or licensing for the host.

    Hello

    There is another limit, too.

vSphere 4 with Enterprise license model support only 4 vCPUs per VM. In vpshere 5 you can use up to 8 vCPUs per VM with the license of the company.

If you want to use more vCPUs in vSphere 4 you will need to upgrade to Enterprise Plus - here, you can use up to 8 vCPUs per VM.

But as you know there is a limit of 4 processors for Server 2008 R2 Standard. It is also a limitation in your case.

    Hi all

Need help and tips from you all. I made a big mistake. I released today to the review of VMware VCP-410 and successful too. But now when I try to participate in mandatory training, I see that at the present time all the institutes offer training Vsphere 5. What can I do now? Do you mean that all my efforts to pass VCP-410 is a waste. Is there anyway / any where in India I can get training for VSphere 4.1 and not me certified.

Your help and advice will be very healpful.

I have a question I'm VCP - NV since 8 Jan and I got approval for review VTC in 9 Jan,

I intend to take the exam next week I can take it or I have to official VMware Vsphere courses I did the course in itself all study them now

    Thank you

If you have not taken a formal course of VMware, you cannot receive the certification VCP5-VTC.

If you're not Ciscso CCNA or did not have an official course of VMware, you cannot receive certification VCP - NV.

    Thank you

How to get the VCP5 certification with the 4.x course is explained in the http://mylearn.vmware.com/mgrReg/plan.cfm?plan=12457&ui=www

First, you need to do is obtain the VCP4 certification.

  • Server 2008 extremely slow on ESXi 4 (208167)

A few months ago I started having serious performance on our Terminal server VM server problems, and I have yet to track down the problem. I know that I inevitably left out some sort of vital information, please bare with me and slap my wrist when I forget.

    Our Vmware ESXi system:

    2 quad-core (8 logical cores) processors

    12 GB memory

RAID 1 Bay for discs of OS and RAID 5 for the data.

    VM on the system:

    Nuclei of SBS 2008 = 4, 9 GB RAM

    Server 2008 Standard (32-bit) = 4 cores, 2.5 GB of RAM

XP Pro = 1 core, 512 MB of RAM

This system used to work very well without any problems, but now it is sometimes unusable. The CPU spikes and takes forever, and it's not just with a single process either. It is used to serve a small site with a SQL database (used internally and not very intense) and Terminal Server services, both accounting can remote in and the use of Quickbooks.

I started, I was wondering if possibly, it started happening when I created the XP Pro VM and if he had to do with assigning a processor when technically all 8 have already been used. Which could cause problems? In addition, the RAM is only 2.5 (made at 3, up to what I gave to XP). I know it's low, even though 32-bit can go to 4, but if I look at the memory usage in the system, it is only at 60% or more. I will probably increase the RAM of anyway, but could not nail down the problem.

It could be something with general reserve and system? It seems it's only wrong with this machine a virtual that don't is not really implemented any differently from others. Most of the settings for the virtual machine are by default, other than the allocation of resources.

Even when something as simple as opening session, or open the reliability and Performance Monitor, watching the CPU in the vSphere client usage jump path to the top, but its use disk and memory remain relatively the same.

How can I find and check to solve this performance problem?

I found a few other Community assignments that go in-depth on the question of vCPU. Take a good look at both of the threads below. The general consensus is to not use multiple vCPUs unless required. Those positions explain why, and they do it well. I would say that your other admins coming in and changing things may affect the performance of your system. Can you take their rights to change things?

  • Can I expect to consult vSphere 1 update of the VCP - 410 exam questions

I have my VCP-410 exam tomorrow and am wondering about the question to know if I am likely to see changes in the review of the recent release of vSphere update 1.

An example may be the fact that the PVSCSI is now supported by the boot floppies (windows 2003 / 2008) where as before it was not.

I'll assume that 1 week after the release of these changes are likely to appear.  For future reference can someone VMware tell us how long after an update can we expect the review to take account of any change in software?

    Hi all

We always try to maintain compatibility with the current versions of the product.  Which means that you can study the current documentation.  As Scott mentioned, we probably will not add new items immediately, but us correct inconsistencies with existing items.

  • VCP exam question - the difference between the file exchange and the swap partition?

I am currently a student at my VCP and stumbled upon a question and was hoping someone could explain the answer offered.  Essentially the question is asking why you must manually create a local VMFS volume.  The possible answers were: files of storage for the service console log, decentralized storage for all the vmkernel vmkernel swap activity Exchange files for virtual machines that are configured locally and swap files from service console for the console service RAM overcommitment.

It is my understanding that the swap partition has its own format.  When you create the necessary partitions for installing ESX format the swap partition is 'swap', not vmfs or ext - 3.  Then, because the last three options are to swap/activity files, I chose the first choice, storage for the service console logs.  This study guide says I'm wrong and the answer is VMKernel swap files for virtual machines that are configured locally.   Of course, Miss me something here...

How you store Exchange files on VMFS partition?  I thought that the swap partition is the only place to have to Exchange files, and then it is on its own partition.  You cannot store a partition on a partition.

Maybe it's the difference between a swap file and a swap partition which is tripping me?

Search for, swap space as it is usually is a place to store a replica of memory the system for the purpose of managing memory better (usually data that are accessed most often).

SWAP PARTITION is now, for the ESX SWAP space.

And the EXCHANGE FILE is for some particular VM swap space that can be used by the guest operating system. The use of this file is managed by VMkernel. Now, this swap file has some different features from the windows of i.e normal swap, linux or ESX swap space space.

Here are all the questions I have, please don't take your time and answer following questions that I really want to come in this area.

1 I have a good knowledge of VMware workstation, install VM configuration, cloning and Teaming etc. Now, before entering this VCP4 Do requires a thorough knowledge of

ESX or know the features of a VMware VM is the will that be enough

2 and come to the knowledge of the OS I worked on Win XP and was one of the members of the launch of Win Vista hp and his team will happen with Win 7 I go to

The Malaysia for the training partners, but I've never worked on the servers, especially on Linux, I took courses of Certification Solaris but I could only complete part 1 of it. If we require a deep knowledge of Linux/Solaris operating system.

3 please let me know what all to prepare before entering the classroom.

    4. What are the job prospects once the course is over, we have or have any chance of getting a job in hp itself or we should seek outside.

5 is it better for me to use VCP 3 instead of VCP 4?

Take your time and answer these questions, I am very desperate to have a change in my profile, impatient to retake the course in October 7, so I'll have very less time on site, waiting for an answer very soon.
