Questions about LUN space Reclaimation

Greetings!

I have a few questions for you guys.  I studied how the restoration of the deleted blocks occurs on a given data store.  Although I get orders to do so (")vmkfstools -y" in 5.0/5.1 and "esxcli storage vmfs unmap" in 5.5), I need clarification on what is actually happening.

1. If the datastore is 600GB and shows 100GB free in vSphere, is the full 600GB shown as allocated on the SAN?

2. We are running vSphere 5.1.  If I run "vmkfstools -y 50" to reclaim 50% of free space, what happens to the SAN?

3. Does the reclamation only affect deleted blocks, or does it affect all free space?

That's all I can think of for now.  Thanks!

Dave S

1. If the datastore is 600GB and shows 100GB free in vSphere, is the full 600GB shown as allocated on the SAN?

It depends, for example, if in some time you used 550GB on the data store and remove 50 GB, maybe it will be 550GB allocated on the SAN, recovery space is performed automatically.

2. We are running vSphere 5.1.  If I run "vmkfstools -y 50" to reclaim 50% of free space, what happens to the SAN?

Taking the example of 100 GB of free space on the data store, if you use vmkfstools y 50, the command will create a file of balloon that is 50% of 100 GB in size (50 GB) and once the file is created, it will be removed to zero space and free up space on the SAN.

3. Does the reclamation only affect deleted blocks, or does it affect all free space?

Not 100% sure, but I think it depends on how much space you want to recover, if there is for example 100 GB of free on the store database and 50 GB of free on the SAN and you use vmkfstools y 70, ball file fills not only the 50% of the deleted blocks but over 20% of the blocks already set to zero... but of course after completion of the order you will get 70% of free space :-)

  • Question about free space on the HDD of the Satellite L150

I am very disappointed to see that the 250 GB on my Satellite L150 is actually only 109GB because of the partitioned drive.
I don't remember seeing this on any of the spec in my research.

I have about 100 GB of image files and the data I wanted to transfer and I do not know what to do.
I keep all my files image on an external hard drive?

Would not be a large amount of data on the PC it considerably slow down?
Or not? Or do I have to keep some of them on the C:\ drive?

Can another possibility - I get an extra HD for this machine?

    Trenny

    Hello Trenny

When you open Windows Explorer and click on my computer, which is shown on the right side?
    You have two partitions?

Sorry, but all the history is confusing. By default (factory settings) the HARD disk has two partitions:
    -C for OS
-D is free and can be used to save all your data

If you can use both partitions or not?

If so please use it. It will not slow down your PC. The performance depends on the performance of the operations, background processes and of RAM available, not on the amount of data stored on the HARD drive.

  • Questions about the implementation of clusters of storage and DTS on active cluster

I have a few questions about the implementation of clusters of data store and SRS storage in VSphere 5.1.

We have a data center with about 15 HP blades and a few servers non-lame.  The hosts are all either VSphere 5.0 or 5.1.  Our back-end storage is an EMC VNX 5700 with about 20 stores of data.  All the VMWare is managed by VCenter 5.1 running on a dedicated physical machine.

Currently, each data store is used individually; No piles of data store are put in place.  When a new virtual machine is created, the administrator usually chooses the data with the most space store.  Periodically, we will go back and manually storage vMotion machines to balance the load.

Recently, we have expanded the VNX storage, so we now have LUNS in different pools, with different levels of performance.

What I would do is set up for the data store clusters, so that us when a virtual machine is created, the administrator must not know what data store is in which pool.  Also take advantage of the DRS storage so that the burden of storage will be "refine" himself a little.

I know the setting up of a cluster of storage in a 'clean' environment is quite simple, but my concern is creation/conversion data warehouses existing in active production in the cluster, while they are used.

If I access the screen "data warehouses and store data from clusters ', right-click on the data center and create a cluster, and then move the various data stores in the new cluster, will there be an interruption in the production running systems?

I also wonder about activation of storage i/o control.  It is not currently enabled on data warehouses.  I know it's useful for the StorageDRS, but will be allowing any negative impact on the system?  If I turn on the warehouses of data, is there anything else I should do or set in addition to all that allows him?

Finally, we are in the process of Site Recovery Manager configuration.  SRS has an impact on the configuration of the data clusters and DTS store?

Thanks in advance for your comments.

    Hello

Clusters of data and using DTS store doesn't impact RS even if you create a cluster of data store for storage of replicated data and another for everyone else, this way you machines virtual you want to replicate are not moved on warehouses of data that are not replicated , but will still have the ability to move if there is a conflict.

    Gregg

With all due respect but SRM and DTS don't go together. SRM does not at all support the use of DTS. So if you are configuring SRM forget DTS for now.

Reason for this is that SRM knows no DTS and VMs can be in flight when a failover should occur, and bad things can happen. Also, the protection breaks when a virtual computer is moved between data warehouses in a cluster data store.

    In short: don't go there.

  • Question about temperature internal Satellite A300 ND1

    Hello

I have a question about the temperature of the standards it of ok for my laptop and what is the normal temperature and how can I keep it low?

    Thank you.

    Hello

It's not easy to say what a normal temperature could be.
The temperature is not always the same and it depends on the use of the laptop.
Usually, the temperature would increase while gaming or running applications high performance. Why? Because all devices such as the CPU and GPU would focus the heat dissipation and this leads to a higher temperature.

    > How can I keep it low
Very simply, you can keep still low level, but you can make sure there is enough free space around the laptop to ensure good air circulation.
Also don t use the laptop on your knees etc in order do not obstruct cooling fans.

It s also advised to clean the fans from time to time using the jet of compressed air. These sprays are really useful and could buy in the stores of different computers.

  • Question about partitions on Equium A100-027

    Hi all!

I'm new to the forum but have been hidden for a while and he thought at the time that I said "Hello".

This and the fact that I have a question about my laptop Satellite A100-027.
The hard drive on my laptop seems to be divided into three partitions = Vista (c) / data (E :) / WinRE (d) with the WinRE (D :) is quite small but others, quite large.))

My C drive is up to 3 that GB free with about 35 GB of free data (E :) is possible to merge these two to give me a big drive? And if so, how?
Please excuse my ignorance, but it seems impossible to me to "get my head around" this thing hard drive and would split the a large hard drive.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and once again, Hello to all.

    Hello

As the user previous already said, you can manage HARD drive partitions in disk management settings.

If you n t want to have a data partition (e) then you can try to delete it in disk management.
Then you can add this empty space of the HARD drive for other partitions on the HARD drive.

But note; the empty space will be placed at the end of the HARD drive. I don't know if your C partition is placed as a second HARD drive partition, but if so, then it should be no problem to add empty space to partition C (System) of m.

    Hello

I have a question about my 11 s Yoga that I bought recently.

It is advertised as having 128 GB SSD, but according to the PC of the information there are 101 on the C drive and 3.99 GB on the D drive. This only adds to 104,99 GB. Is someone can you please tell me where are the remaining 23 GB?

Just to clarify, Go 104.99 is no space AVAILABLE, it's total capacity. The available space is only 67GB, which is not much at all I installed practically anything outside of a few documents.

  • The question about the interconnections of fabric UCS 6300 Series

    Hello

I have a question about UCS 6300 Series fabric interconnects. Is this fabric UCS interconnections 6300 series integrated into the extension of tissue function?  The reason why I asked this question was, when there is 6300 series fabric has been plugged UCS 5100 chassis, there is no more space to plug in extension of UCS 2200 series fabric. My understanding on the topology of the UCS, tissue extender is the connection between the blade and the fabric of the interconnections.

    Thank you

    Bob

    Hi Bob

    Yes, that's correct!

The chassis so called FI - IOM (see attachment p52); THE IOM = FEX.

I/O of the blade adapter to connect inside basket chassis, which connects to the built-in IOM.

IOM is then connected to the built-in FI.

    (1) can be used if the Pack diagnosis DB is not installed? I ask because I know that some of these utilities are not available if it is not.

    (2) I know that I need to enable logging extra to use it. Is there any show / General cool space that are associated with?

    (3) are there any air show with the help of LogMiner itself? In particular, I could see what happens if analyzes the current journal.

    (4) what the tool commonly used to determine what query performance caused problems for awhile?

1 Yes. It is not part of a pack.
2 of course additional recording will result in repeat. The impact on performance is usually not noticeable.

3 the result of mining is placed in the shared pool and queries on v$ logmnr_contents ask shared pool this may cause reduced performance.

4 n ° do not forget that you are again mining. This means DML. Selects won't be in your recovery.

  • Simple question about Append hint

    ORACLE-BASE - title

The link above, I have just a basic question about add suspicion...

How the APPEND Hint affects the performance

The APPEND tip tells the optimizer to perform an access direct-path insert, which improves the performance of INSERT .. SELECT operations for several reasons:

    • Data are added at the end of the table, instead try to use the free space in the table.
    • Data is written directly to the data files, passing the buffer cache.
    • Referential integrity constraints are ignored.

I wanted to just understand to what extent is the third correct point

    -----------------

    CREATE TABLE emp
    (
    emp_id a PRIMARY KEY/NUMBER
    emp_name VARCHAR2 (100),
    dept_id NUMBER
    );

    CREATE TABLE dept
    (
    dept_id NUMBER PRIMARY KEY,
    dept_name VARCHAR2 (100)
    );

    ALTER TABLE ADD FOREIGN KEY (Dept_id) emp made REFERENCE to Department (Dept_id);

    INSERT / * + append * /.
    IN emp
    Select 1, 'King', 100 from dual;

    COMMIT;

The insert will definitely give an error

ORA-02291: integrity constraint (SCOTT. SYS_C0013725324) violated - parent not found key

    Am I missing something here?

    See you soon,.

    Manik.

sqlldr can and does ignore referential integrity / triggers and same uniqueness in a load path direct, insert / * + append * / doesn't - you do not direct path when they (constraints) exist.

parallel is always a direct route, if you go in parallel, you add.

    Community 10.0.0.1@0 receiver

Please note that the recipient's address contains a space, not a "/" as input to the command line.

I wonder why the "10.0.0.1@0"? I think it should be "10.0.0.1@161" because the port number is 161. Thank you.

Yes, you are correct and also keep in mind that there is a lot of difference with the SNMP agent without traps (use the port UDP/161) and SNMP agent with traps (use port UDP/162).

  • Question about hdd comments

    Hello

    My name is Tigran.

First of all excuse me for my English.

I have a question about comments HDD.

I have a windows 7 machine 19.ne 60 GB provisioned thin disc comments.

Today, I delete some files from the guest operating system and I free on about 20 GB of disk space. Now in my guest os used space on disk is of about 30 GB, but in vcenter disk space is always 50 GB. I understand that thin provisioned disk space grows when add us files to this disc, what would you say to resize to the bottom of the disk space?

    Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately a virtual disc service end increases only in size if necessary, but does not automatically decrease if less space is needed for the guest operating system. If you want or need to reduce the size of the virtual disk, would be to run VMware Converter and make a volume base conversion (rather than on the disk).

  • Question about *.aud in audit_file_dest fields

A node 3 RAC 11 g 2 on Linux 5.2, we recently had a full disk because of too many files in audit_file_dest. The parameter audit database is such

    audit_trail                          string      DB
With audit_sys_operations = FALSE, I don't expect operating SYS written to audit_file_dest. But in fact we still see a lot. Here are my questions about sys audit
    (1) how really turn off sys audit
    (2) I see much usefule sys files in audit_file_dest of the audit. A typical such file contained as (removded header)

From what I understand, it tells me the time and duration of the session SYS. It don't me didn't say where machine (which can help to identify who connected in a SYS), not the activities
I find this info is useless. I must missed something important, hope some one can shine some light here.
    3) If cannot stop the SYS audit, I would like to redrect the audit_file_dest to a differnt drive with larger space. Is there anything thing need special attention when doing it in RAC. Can each instance has differnt audit_file_dest?

Although audit_sys_operations is false, some actions are audited by default in 11g. See also DBA_AUDIT_TRAIL.
    (1) you can't turn it off
    (2) TERMINAL CLIENT is empty, it means that the connection of the server itself. In your example someone logged on locally as "/ as sysdba".
    (3) audit_file_dest is instance specific. You can put each in their own directory or put them all in a share. If the files are very small, according to the activity of DB there could be millions of them. In my environment remove us periodically as they age (more than 3 months).

  • Questions about tables in text boxes

When I convert the text to a table, there is a small space between the text block and the table. I have two questions about this:

    1. Is it possible to remove this gap? I put the text block options set spacing to 0 and gutter to 0 and spacing of table before and after to 0.
    2. Is it possible to create a table that is not in a block of text, especially when converting text to a table?

Attached is a few screenshots that I hope will be useful. In the first image, East of the limit of the framework text in magenta and the structure of the table is in light blue. The gap between the blue magenta and light vertical lines on the left, that's what I want to remove.

    Screen shot 2012-05-11 at 11.45.46 AM.pngScreen shot 2012-05-11 at 11.50.47 AM.pngScreen shot 2012-05-11 at 11.53.05 AM.png

Tables are always in a text frame, and in fact, they are part of a paragraph, so I would check the assigned to this paragraph paragraph style and see if there is a left indent applied, or perhaps a paragraph alignment is set to something other than the left.

  • A question about type

Okay, at the risk of exposing me like a complete jerk, I need to ask a question about type.

I use Fireworks CS4 to design a website of 40 to 50 pages. Most of the site is composed of ten stories, each taking two to five pages of the site. I use ghraphic and pictures to break up the grey type and illustrate the words. I anticipate using 14pt Arial for my policy. The text will be displayed on a 'unique' (that is to say, not repetitive) texture.

I put on my pages with photos and other graphics, and I glued the type of original stories around the images. (I don't use Lorem ipsum for text space booked because I wanted an accurate measure of the screw-the-page notice words.) In other words, I wanted to be sure that everything fit and don't let no troublesome space at the end).

I know that I do not export the type with images in Dreamweaver. I'll remove the text in Fireworks when I export, then paste it in Dreamweaver so that the pages appear as I have originally designed the.

However, my question is this: If a reader opens one of my pages with his default computer to, say, 12pt Verdana, if it screws up the layout of my page? As I said above, I have designed the pages at Arial 14 pt. If the type will flip off my pages - or type will inches less on a page - if the Player browser is set to a different font size or point? If Yes, what can I do to make my pages (or contraction) to adjust the reader his reading preferences?

Thanks again for your help. Of course happy that I do not use my real name on it.

When you write the HTML code, you place the images next to the paragraphs they are associated if the police or the window changes size, then the whole of the document is redéroule, but logically, everything to its planned place. This can be frustrating for people who are used to define exactly where the images appear with respect to the text and even kerning and spacing to make a line "so." You will have awkward gaps somewhere, let it go... let the way you free from this concern.

Everything is in a box, however. In this box, you can put images repetitive or expandable. So yes, you can put a background behind the text, no repetitive image on each of your pages and you should be able to set the box so that duplication of the background image will not appear if it is larger than the active area. (I think it would be in the CSS overflow divs property... you'd have to check).

Here are some tutorials using broad, non-repetitive background images for the page. You could adapt the technique to a content div:

    http://Line25.com/tutorials/basic-Web-page-background-techniques-with-CSS (scroll down)

    http://www.WebDesignerWall.com/tutorials/how-to-CSS-large-background/

On the other hand, however, lines of text that are more than 2 to 2.5 wide alphabets are difficult to analyze. If your site is intended to be text-heavy, you might be better off with a fixed width for your text box.

I think that the comment the blogger relates using Fireworks Slicing page to export HTML code, which gives you a fixed design, based on a table. The HTML code, you can export FW is not for live sites. It's just for prototyping. It is better to use CSS for layout, rather than tables, because the code is easier to maintain. I came across this interesting tutorial (the author uses Photoshop, but any graphic program works if you want to follow along):

    http://NET.tutsplus.com/tutorials/HTML-CSS-techniques/design-and-code-your-first-website-i n-easy-to-understand-steps.
