  • Can I shrink a logical drive and not the extended partition to a bare metal restore to a smaller drive?

The current configuration is a Dell T310 with a S300 controller, with all locations 4 hot filled with SAS drives.  The operating system is SBS 2008 (2008 Server/Vista), I intend to change the controller of S300 (software) controller, a controller (hardware) H700.  My concern is that the H700 brings readers a little smaller in size.

The typical arrangement of Dell's diagnosis, followed by a recovery partition partition (E :), followed by the system partition (C :), followed by a partition with a logical volume (d).  If I use Diskpart to shrink the D: 'partition', he let me with free space, not allocated.  Thus, it effectively reduces the logical drive, and the extended partition stays the same size as it was, with no way to reduce it.

The question is, if I shrink the logical D: drive and not the extended partition and then get backups of the system, I'll be able to a bare metal restore on the smallest virtual disk of the H700?

    That's what I did:
    -Released the S300 controller and 4, 450 GB, 15 000 rpm Cheetah RAID-5
-Replace the controller H700 and 2, 2 TB 7200 RPM in RAID-1 Constellations

    Results:
-Eliminates the possibility of falling on a disk space issue when restoring
-Increased the amount of available disk space.
M ' left with 2 free hard drive for future expansion bays.

  • Windows 2008 R2 Server error Stop 7B after Bare Metal Restore of VM.

I tried to make a bare metal restore of a physical server Windows 2008 R2 on a virtual computer, and although restoration is fine, when I restart the virtual machine after the restore, I get a STOP: 0x0000007B (see screenshot) error.  I was able to find all kinds of '' correction '' online, but none really solve the problem.  Someone at - it else done this and can provide a solution?  Thank you.

As for your suggestion concerning the audit of the controller and then using vSphere converter, do you want to say I point the converter on the VMDK 'broken' and choose a Machine configuration option?

What you can do with VMware Converter, is to run the Machine "set up" against the power off VM (simply select the virtual computer after connecting to the host or vCenter). I mentioned to check the controller before doing this, because this controller is the default configuration for the operating system you use.

  • bare metal Windows Installer 10

If I do a "bare metal" upgrading to W10, how then install the HP software features I want, like sleep and extended features, the HP documentation, etc.

Note: I don't have the backup of HP, I think the other backup software works erfectly well.  I don't want no other option of HP.

M $ 'check PC' concludes that the Folio 13-1016TU can run W10 and all my programs and satisfactory equipment.  In my opinion this Upgrade Advisor is leaves much to be desired, and I was informed that his performance is the responsibility of MS rather than program and material suppliers.

Yes, the laptop should still run Win10 with no major problems, even though as you say, the Upgrade Advisor may not always be accurate.

I would create a picture as you do already.

  • Bare metal to VM and network lost settings

Customer site, IBM System x 3650 running VMware ESX Server 3i in turn four servers to Windows Server 2003.

Customer has decided on this approach for the DRP.  Three of the servers have been made VMs of bare metal servers back to Headquarters.  A problem noted with raising in the virtual machine environment is that they have lost the original network settings - which is logical given the fact that the adapter is different.  But it would be nice if it were the case that is static, gateway IP address and DNS settings could be part of the virtual network adapter settngs machine.  What are the options?  This is adjustable during the construction of the virtual machine?  Or is it possible to create a virtual adapter to a bare metal Server?  Others?

A newbie question - please be patient...

    Thank you!

    David

As Erik said, remove all the drivers and hardware (com ports, serial, floppy disk, NIC ports, etc.) of the virtual machine. Among the pitfalls that you may experience after the P2V is sometimes the old IP settings are required to and you can even assign the same virtual IP address to the new network card because windows has this IP linked to the old physical card. That's when you need to run the "show no present devices ', so that you can remove the old nic in Device Manager for the news of the intellectual property contained in the output register. You might have to restart the virtual machine that you can assign the IP address to the new virtual card.

    Thank you

  • Unable to access the menu bar to restore the default setting.

Firefox hung up. I received a message that the script is running then stop script or continue. I have been unable to click either. Now, all I have is a black screen with a white rectangle at the top. I can't see my menu bar or address bar to reset the default value. I am at a loss to know what to do.
    Thank you.

A right click (or Ctrl + click) on the dock, the Firefox icon and select Exit. If Firefox is stuck running, you have to force it quit.

Before you restart Firefox, you can get rid of all tabs and windows that were previously open:

    1. Open your profile folder in the Finder.

    2. Rename sessionstore.js, sessionstore.bak , and sessionstore.bak-(numbers) to something else, for example sessionstore.js - disabled and so on.
    3. If Firefox does not work properly when restarted normally, start in Mode safe mode instead. The line in sans-echec Mode also allows you to reset Firefox, if that's what you want.
  • W530 Bare Metal with ESXi 5.1 - Possible!

    Guyz!

This will be good news for all those who want to wear metal ESXi W530 5.1.

With simple clicks of customization, the whole installation runs smooth and Nice.

For those who are interested. Answer in the thread and a lot of fun to share with you the way to do it.

(I can't just download the image, it will be great if I can put it in a place).

You get a few things to do.

    1. the ISO original Esxi 5.1. Download after free registration of VMware.

    2. a customizer of ESXi (http://www.v-front.de/p/esxi-customizer.html#download), this helps you to install a VIB in the ISO in order to go through the installation

    3. download the map here VIB (http://shell.peach.ne.jp/~aoyama/wordpress/download/net-e1000e-2.1.4.x86_64.vib).

    4. just the disk with the ISO to boot you careated. Everything works fine

  • IE is not the task bar to restore.

IE 11 and 9 on three computers Win7 does not correctly in the bar spots.  When open IE displays correctly.  IE is not pinned to the taskbar, and after it starts and then clicking on the toolbar works correctly once and then it stops responding, leaving the maximized window.    It's the same thing with an IE window, or more, with or without several tabs.  All the other browsers and programs, and Windows Explorer will behave correctly in the taskbar; only IE is awkward.  Multiple monitors are not enabled.   On laptops using the mouse or the touch makes no difference.

Problem is on a Dell (Win 7 Pro 32 bit, IE11) desktop computer, a laptop Asus (Win 7 Home 64 bit, IE11 Premimum) and a Dell laptop (Win 7 Pro 32 bit, IE9), but not the computer desktop (Win 7 64 bit, IE11) HP or HP (Vista 64-bit, IE9) office. On the 64-bit Asus the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of IE are affected.

I think it must be a capricious parameter the affected computers have in common, but what setting?  Where should I look?

    Discussions were merged.

    Deleted duplicate.

In addition to my five computers, with that I managed also to distance a laptop HP Win 7 64 bit and IE 11 and it's OK. So on these six PC three HPS is OK; the Asus and two Dells are aflicted.

I made an image of the partition of each pc aflicted as operating systems are on partitions separate and then installed the images of partition made before this problem showed, expected that the problem would disappear.  I want!  All three remained afflicted independently turn time. (I then installed the images I did fair, bringing back them to where they were.)

Which did not then maybe it's something that is installing at each start.  I started on CD or USB and scanned with Windows Defender in offline mode; so its probably not malicious software.

Two laptops have mouse Logitech running the set Point and the Office software has a Logitech Keyboard with setpoint software.  The Logitech setpoint software cause this?

In addition, now by clicking the mouse on a tab wheel is not close the tab and Chrome is now upward too.  Geeeezzzz!

I can't be the only one with this problem.  We hope to hear from someone.

I just uninstall setpoint of the Asus and this is!, the Asus is fixed.  His end so that others will have to wait until tomorrow.

    =============================

OK, that's all. The setpoint software Logotech was obsolete.  The SetPoint software has been updated automatically, and Secunia PSI has been updated automatically, then how come it was expired I do not know.  Alls well now.

"Alls well now" means exactly what you think it means.  I fixed my problem on my own, so you should not take credit for this answer and you shouldn't offer other solutions because all right.

It is stupid to tell me to restart my computer and it is not 'the scene' as you suggest.   As I said, the problem was with the Logitech SetPoint software and I solved the problem.   There is nothing to answer.

I find that when they are faced with a mysterious problem, it is useful to describe in a post I did.  If someone reads the message and provides a useful overview, so much the better.  In this case there were no answers useful to everyone, including yours.  I solved it on my own without anyones help.

  • OMIVV 3.0 & Dell R630 Bare Metal deployment error: apply ISO has failed, the Exception occurred * servicetag *.

    Hello

We try to use OMIVV on a new deployment of R630 Dell servers with dual deployment ESXi 6 SD card.

After deployment is running the server restarts but does start the ISO, iDRAC IP is in another network to OMIVV but there is no restrictions on communications between network iDRAC and the OMIVV box.

Looking at the firewall no attempt is made to connect to the iDRAC network file sharing, but there is a small amount of comms to OMIVV box.

    No traffic is blocked.

This doesn't seem to work at all and the information about why a failure has produced are non-existent.

    Everyone sees these questions?

    Thank you

Please make sure that the IP OMIVV eth0 network address is available to the iDRAC network IP address and try to deploy the hypervisor.

  • Bare metal 10 Windows Installer after the upgrade free on-site

I wanted to start a new thread on the specific problems with the reactivation of Windows 10 after obtaining your free upgrade by upgrade Win7 or Win8 on-site.

Someone has actually managed to make this work?

Have you taken steps to clone all parameters (such as the MAC address) of the upgrade virtual machine?

Have you had to call MS?

    Please chime...

Someone in my organization wrote the following:

For what should be obvious reasons, Microsoft does not publish details of their activation. However, several of the VM (.vmx, hard) files contain several unique hardware ID such as Virtual NIC MAC addresses, serial numbers virtual HD, a bios UUID, etc, all these values can be read by the guest OS. We know that the serial numbers of equipment like these are used to generate the hardware hash that Microsoft uses to determine the identity of an activation system, although the exact algorithms are secret.

We also know that when you copy a virtual machine to a new location VMware Workstation will ask if it has been moved or copied. If you select 'Copy' it generates a new UUID news addresses MAC, etc. and the system requires reactivation because as Windows is concerned, it's a different system or a major change enough 'material' to qualify as such. If you select "I moved it", it doesn't generate a new hardware ID and the system remains activated.

I'll need backup/snapshot my VM activated prior to the test, but it goes without saying that the start of the install media (Microsoft has a tool to generate or download the ISOs) and shape (or diskpart own) the virtual drive before doing a clean install on a virtual machine enabled previously, as you would on a physical system they wanted to rebuild , will perform a clean installation of the virtual machine and allow a reactivation by license terms for Microsoft. Assuming that automatic resettlement activation works as Microsoft said, is installed on the same virtual hardware as long as you don't tell VMware to generate new material ID's

    https://www.Microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO

On the reverse, there is also this 'feature' 'factory reset' which also supposedly returns it to a 'clean install' state you said could be another possibility.

  • Bare metal Workstation?

Is it possible to run my computer without going through a host operating system?

Is not in my computer, then how about in ESX?

I want to turn on my computer and then launch the VM and alternate between them... is - this feasible?

    Thank you!

    Joe

ESXi is re-usable. You must make sure that your workstation is on the HCL. Just keep in mind that there is no GUI in ESXi you need to remote connect vsphere client from another PC.

VMware workstation requires a host operating system in order to work. the only way is to make the host operating system as thin as possible by removing unnecessary services, applications.

  • First Bare Metal hypervisor. Best practices

Hi, I'm buiding a supermicro superserver 7046t - NTR + w / 2 x Xeon E5620 CPU 48 GB DDR3 1333 ECC REG RAM (6X8Go) 8 x 1 TB 7200 RPM 32 MB SATA drives. I intend to install the free version of ESXi. I need to put as much Windows XP VLPD here that the hardware allows. I can extend up to 144 GB of RAM if necessary. The Windows XP VLPDs run 512 MB or 1024 MB of RAM 8 GB virtual drives. The VLPDs averaged a light load, but there are gusts moderate activity.  The night before I start installing ESXi and I realized that I still have questions.

With 8 drives 1 TB should I do two-Bay RAID 10 install ESXi on one and use them for the VLPDs and mirror 2 for ESXi and 2 to Exchange files and then put VLPDs on RAID 10?

With 48 GB memory vivid 1024Mo how Windows XP VLPDs can I expect to run?

How many people find the SATA drives from the bottleneck?

    Is - this true statement

The free version of ESXI will support 2 quad core processors, but to switch to 6 or 8 core processors ESXi requires a new license.

    Thank you guys

More pins the better performance you will get.  Also, make sure you do diskalignment.  ALSO do not format the VMFS on installation make in vSphere Client so that you have the question about your VMFS.  See this link for more information it is something that can really eat your drive! http://www.yellow-bricks.com/2010/04/08/aligning-your-VMS-virtual-harddisks/

  • Can we move that a backup of the Windows Image to a different drive location years still be able to use it to restore?

I did a Windows 'backup system image"when first of all, I got my new computer and put it on a hard drive internal, designated as"D", which was intended to be used for data. I tried to do a restore, and although very "fussy" has been able to do.

The image of the system take much space and if I had to do over again I would have put somewhere else.

I have read that the image cannot be moved to another location or it will no longer be abel to to beused to restore from. Is this true?

    (1) can I move the image of the system upward (and parent folders he created) to another drive (preferably external) and still be able to restore from it if necessary?

    (2) can I move the image of the system upward (and parent folders he created) to another drive (preferably external) and move them back the same origin drve and still be able to restore from them if necessary.

    (3) the optimum would be a stand-alone backup on external media (such as the blu - ray, DVD, etc.) to restore from scratch, if necessary.

    I use Windows 7 64-bit.

    Thanks in advance.

You can move your images wherever you want, but to restore from them, the WindowsImageBackup folder should be moved to the root of a drive, so you can move it to

    J:\WindowsImageBackup

for example.  J: didn't need to be the drive that the image was made for the first time on.

I found confusing indications that Windows might support images being elsewhere as the image during the restoration list would identify the correct date & time for the last image on the disc.  However, it would then only work with an image that I grow in X:\WindowsImageBackup as explained above.

I managed my images using a subfolder of H:\ J:\ or O:\ called ImagesWin7, which itself has 20120205 1126 etc. subfolders.  I put some descriptive info I want in the relevant subfolder so I can see key information easily if I want to restore.  Then, I create the image & move this folder WindowsImageBackup, so I find myself with O:\ImagesWin7\20120205 1126\WindowsImageBackup and I also have a 1126\Explanation.txt of O:\ImagesWin7\20120205 of the text file that contains my notes on what I was just doing or was about to do on the system.

What is resolved issues for you?  If this isn't the case, please let me know your remaining questions.

It IS a big help (since this is exactly what I was trying to accomplish).

Education path for my pictures of system includes a machine name

    (i.e. the 170453\ J:\WindowsImageBackup\MachineName\Backup 2010-12-03)

Can I have added the word "Backup" myself as a descriptor that I don't remember.

I also have added the subfolder/directory "MachineName" myself. I don't remember.

Will have to start from scratch and create another backup of WindowsImage (without any writing help) and see what is the path for this image. Then attempt to restore etc and if it works then try again restore one of my old backups.

It may be I made the backup unusable images (even if they are visible for the restore program) by changing the path and / / or folder names. Although it seems that you have also done this with your "imagesWin" directory You replace the image backup in the root directory, and then restore it?

The only reason for all this must be able to reach and (if necessary access and restore from) one of the first images saves when the machine was new, blank before installing the software ay etc. Easier to make a bare metal restore to install Win7 from scratch, load the drivers and configure etc.

As mentioned above, I now use ShadowProtect Desktop 4 for backups image system (including incremental images) and have found that it is great (and images can be moved to any directoyr and bootable recovery environment will restore bare metal from any location, USB, DVD, same network etc.

Better documentation of Windows would have certainly been useful,

    Thanksfor your ideas

  • restorations of the trial

    Hello

We just installed a DL4000 in a data center and I was looking to do some trial restorations.

The problem is what we have in the data center is the DL4000. Is the best way to test a restore to create a VM on the DL4000 hyperV and restore in this?

My apologies if this is a newbie Q!

    Huw-

    Hi Huwy,

Ultimately, it depends on what type of food you want to accomplish.  This is our Guide to documents.software.dell.com/.../User%20Guide

Here are a few videos and the support articles that guide you through common restore scenarios:

What you asked your question specifically is virtual exports.  If you have a machine protected on the DL4000 backup, you can configure a virtual export of a recovery point by following the steps here: support.software.dell.com/.../119965

You can perform a restore file with these steps level: support.software.dell.com/.../122927

To restore a physical box, you can do a Bare Metal Restore: support.software.dell.com/.../118156
