RAM incompatibility issues

I searched the forums, but could not find definitive answers to my question, so forgive me if this has been answered many times before.

I have a laptop Dell Inspiron 9100 (ancient) I've decided is always very interesting to use. I also decided to give him a much needed boost of RAM. My original idea was to add a second SODIMM 512 MB to 1 GB... then I remembered that I have two 256 MB SODIMM.

I am very aware that I should be matching my RAM. So, my options are simple: buy two Sodimm 512 MB. But the complication lies in the fact that this former Behemoth uses DDR memory rather than the newer DDR2, and, as some may have noticed, the GDR has gotten more expensive. And, since I'm fresh out of College and have little money to spend on such things, I would just buy a 1 GB SODIMM, remove one of my sticks of 256 MB and replace it with a new one. Which would give me this weird combination 1 gb / 256 mb.

So here's my question: If the rest of the matches between the old and new RAM (speed, type, etc.) except the ability of data, what kind of a drop in performance will there be? I heard that, because it is not associated, it will be like not even having the 256 MB stick at all. Said one of my friends actually just take two sticks of 256 MB and just go with the single 1 GB - but I don't really know what will accomplish. I get Mo 1 280 full memory? Or is the imbalance will cause a bottleneck of the data actually reduce this amount?

I just need some professional advice. Thank you.

In 2006, when my F10 - 128 fell down as a fault of the video card, Toshiba has replaced the motherboard (865 PM) of my F10 by a new one with the video card installed in Go 6600.
When I came back, I noticed that the same RAM modules have been installed (2 x 512 MB DDR 333 Mhz) as I previous had on the old motherboard.

I think the jury is still supported DDR2 memory modules, but the allocation of the memory pins could be different.

You should contact the ASP in your country and ask for the compatible modules.

    Here are the specifications of your HP Pavilion p6310f desktop and it is card mother M2N78-(Violet6). According to specifications, your computer will support the following improvements;

    CPU / processor;

    Max TDP = 95 Watts

This motherboard only supports AM3 processors.

Supported memory is limited to DDR3 modules only.

    HyperTransport 3.0

    AMD Phenom II X 4 9xx/9xxe/8xx Quad-Core (Deneb)

    DIMM / memory;

Four DDR3 DIMM sockets (240 pin)

    DIMM types supported: PC3-8500 (DDR3-1066) PC3-10600 (DDR3-1333) or

Non - ECC, unbuffered single memory

Supports 1 GB, 2 GB and 4 GB DDR3 DIMMS

    Dual channel memory architecture

    Power supply;

All ATX12V v2.3 power supply about the same size as your original factory supply. The rated power is really depends on the requirements of the graphic card installed on the computer. In general, the Corsair CX500, or CX600 are highly recommended and known to fit most HP consumer. It seems that Corsair has recently expanded the range of CX to include some modular power supplies.

    Graphics card;

Almost any PCIe x 16 v2.0, v2.1 and v3.0 should work on your computer. The games current and/or futures contracts, you intend to play will determine what graphics card, you must install. As you like it is a "gaming platform", I would use a Nvidia GTX 550 Ti, GTX 650 Ti, or more... or an AMD Radeon HD 6770, AMD Radeon 7770 or higher.

If you really want to use a new case not HP and the water cooling, I wouldn't bother upgrading your HP p6310f. Instead, I'd build a new system of measurement from the ground upward. This will allow you to use the latest available technology.

  • Windows 7 incompatibility issues of Tiberium Wars

    Hi all

I have just bought a new laptop and downloaded and installed EA Tiberium Wars fine. However, when you click on one of the icons to load and play the game, nothing happens. I tried via the EA Download Manager and the game desktop icon. I should mention that my laptop is way beyond all the recommended or required spec for the game.

I also had the same problem with Red Alert 3 and also most of the games of the first decade.

What I read I am led to believe, it's down to the problems of compatibility of Windows 7 and 64-bit. Can someone suggest a solution to this? Otherwise I think I have to take my laptop and save me £600 to at least get one that will do purely desktop & internet, what everything is what it seems good so far for...

  • Compaq Presario F730US RAM/OS issues

    Hello world!

I recently acquired a NICE Compaq Presario F730US laptop with a fresh install of Vista Home Premium. It seems to do very well, except for a few things, but people have been (literally, everyone) telling me I had to upgrade to Windows 7. That, I would be OK with this, as an upgrade to Windows 7 Edition Family Premium is $ 90 at Amazon at the moment, but I don't know if I have enough RAM.  I have 1 GB installed and want to install more, but the problem is, according to critical, most computer media is 2 GB, correct?  I mean, that seems to be enough to run Vista properly, (he does well on 1 GB, honestly, but Aries is anywhere between 50 and 90%, usually + 80% with running programs), but I read that Windows 7 requires 1 GB to run by itself.  If this is the case, 2 GB seems worth enough (Vista is a 32-bit operating system installed here, and 7 would be so 32-bit) this laptop can be used more than 2 GB?  I don't know why they are "limited" on the RAM, appears as a type of thing is really not necessary to limit. If 2GB is the absolute most it may take, 2 GB will work Vista Edition Home Premium, or is it better to leave with Vista? I heard a lot of horror stories about Vista, while everyone else seems to love 7. I checked the Support/Drivers section, and there has not been an update of the BIOS in almost 3 years, so this is the original that is currently on the computer.

    Thanks to you all.

p.s., while I am, can this laptop take a bigger hard drive?  250, 320 AND 500 GB?  Are there specific features in this category?

    Thank you.

Hi, you can install up to 2 GB of memory. I would stay with Vista just upgrade to the latest service pack.

You can also upgrade your drive hard the largest stay only available with the 5400 RPM.

The main problem in the Win7 upgrade will be device drivers

  • After effects CC 2014 RAM and issue preferences of performance

I have a problem of RAM with AE CC 2014.

Shortly after the update, I started getting errors that are there not enough RAM for other applications. I checked the preferences and of course "RAM reserved for other applications:" value is 0. I then changed to 6G (on 16) and restart the application.

While they inspected the preferences again, the preference has been set back to 0. I changed it to 6, OKd, then re-entered preferences immediately to see if the change has had and he was still 6.

But whenever I restart the application she same chances to 0!

I therefore did an experiment to see if the AE CC (until 2014) did the same thing. His preferences were set to 3G, so I changed it to 6G for continuity, restarted the app and he remained at 6.

BUT THEN I found that if I open AE CC TI 2014 not only his own preference goes to 0 but changes his AE CC 3!

In a word AE CC 2014 will change the preferences of RAM for itself and AE CC when it launches, at a prior RAM (default?). In the case of himself: 0 G of RAM. In the case of the AE CC: 3 G of RAM.

Also another problem, which I suppose that for the moment is bound, AE CC 2014 will slow down to an unusable crawl after about 5 minutes of use. With no exaggeration, bounding box display only mode, should be 6 to 10 seconds to rotate a single solid a few degrees.

Restart the application, which takes a good 7 minutes, gives about 5 minutes of work before you crawl again. I changed the cache drives, but also stop using a cache disk completely without change.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

  • Is RAM speed issue?

    Introduction:

Hello, I ran some tests today to see if RAM speed really makes a difference when it comes to After Effects. In short, my conclusion is that, no, it makes no difference. At least not for the type of project I tested it with. Here are my conclusions, but first of all, my system specs.

    System Specs:

Intel Core i7 - 3930K (4.3 GHz OC) cooled water

120 GB Sata II SSD for the OS and programs

256 GB Sata III SSD for the files of project and after effects of Disk Cache

16 GB (4x4Go) Corsair Vengeance RAM (hourly stock are 1600 MHz @ 8,8,8,24)

1 GB Nvidia GTX 460 SE

    Test project:

The project involved 6 AVCHD videos played simultaneously and a few very basic effects such as corner pinning and cc removal of thread. The after effects memory and multiprocessing settings were as follows. 5 GB reserved for other programs, 2 CPUs reserve for other programs, 2 GB by heart.

    Results:

    1333 MHz, 12, 12, 12, 24 @ 1.57V

    Render time: 03:22

    1333 MHz, 7, 7, 7-24 @ 1.6V

    Render time: 03:17

    1866 MHz 9, 9, 9, 24, @ 1.57V

    Make the timer 03:14

    1866 MHz, 12, 12, 12, 24 @ 1.57V

    Render time: 03:19

    2133, 12, 12, 12, 24 @ 1.6V

    Render time: 03:15

    Conclusion:

So, in my tests, I found that RAM stpeed is not really play a big role in this situation. However, after thinking about this a bit, I realized that this is probably due to the fact that my RAM must load data from and data dump to my SSD in this project. Even if my SSD is able more 500 MB/s had R/W, it is still not even remotely near speed, were one of these RAM speeds.

So my question to you all is then as follows, can you recommend a type of project with effects that will mainly use the RAM without having to access my SSD? While my tests show a good example of 'real world' of the effects of the speed of the RAM, they do not show the full picture. With your recommendations, I'll create a new project that will best contribute to the effects of the speed of the RAM and add these conclusions about it.

Yes... just a little space to fit... you could literally get 8 + of my tricks inside of your and still have room.

In any case, I did a few tests more and discovered more interesting things on the search for the best speed of RAM.

    Test project

Just a rubix cube in rotation with 6 iterations of keylight to key of all colors. The AE memory and multiprocessing settings were as follows: 5 GB reserved for other programs, 2 CPUs for other programs, 2 GB by heart. See original post for the specifications of the system. NOTE: I increased the frequency breaks through a little following GHz 4,427 during this test.

    Results:

NOTE: Purged of the means I have "purged all" immediately before you click the record button.

    24 999 1553 (32.839ns total latency)

    Purged of time 1: 03:37

    Time without purge 1: 03:15

    Time without purge 2: 03:22

    24 999 1864 (27.360ns total latency)

    Purged of time 1: 03:51

    Time without purge 1: 03:03

    Time without purge 2: 03:08

    Time served 2: 03:09

    22 999 1864 (26.287ns total latency)

    Purged of time 1: 03:41

    Time without purge 1: 03:08

    Time without purge 2: 03:07

    Time without purge 3: 02:48

    Time served 2: 03:12

    2174 12 12 12 24 (27.599ns total latency)

    Purged of time 1: 03:45

    Time without purge 1: 03:20

    Time without purge 2: 03:18

    Conclusion:

These figures all seem to be pretty conclusive that the most important part for After Effects displays must have the total latency as low as possible. So if you're in the market for RAM, get some will give you the lowest total latency, even if it means the passage with the 1600 MHz RAM on the 2400 MHz RAM. The argument according to which the higher latency will consist in transfer rate does not appear to apply here. In fact, it makes sense because a single address in RAM should contain nearly 500 MB for just a difference of 8ns in total latency. (Actual capacity of a single address is probably considerably smaller than that. I sent an email to Corsair to know what the maximum capacity. I'll post here again if they ever come back to me). So in the example above, where cpachris can run either 1600 MHz to 24 777 or to 10,11,10,30 2133 MHz, it would be MUCH better off running at 1600 MHz.

    Other important details:

Intel says that the speed of RAM they recommend is 1600 MHz (Haswell of 1866 MHz however). I think it's because the hearts intel (at least those I did research) have a clock (bclk) standard base of 100 MHz. everything is based on this bclk. Your CPU frequency is generated by multiplying the bclk by a number. So for 4.4 GHz would multiply you a bclk to 100 MHz by 44. Pretty simple. RAM has now (I think) a multiplier locked which has the value 8. 100 MHz x 8 = 800 MHz, multiplied by 2 for Double data rate (DDR), which means, gives you 1600 MHz. If you try to set your frequency high that WITHOUT changing the bclk then you RAM may very well be running at 1600 MHz, just with worst timings.

Now, if you were to increase the bclk for 116.625 your RAM frequency would become 116.625 x 8 x 2 = 1866. The tests I ran support this. In the original post, I had my bclk of 100 MHz (RAM max of 1600 MHz frequency). This test showed that, if I went more than 1600 MHz there is no advantage. In the next round of tests, I tested only the values min and max for those who do not give a picture complete. In the last test I boosted my bclk to 116.5 who gave me a RAM of 116.5 x 8 x 2 = 1864 MHz frequency. It is at this frequency that I gave my best results. So, if you use valued at more than 1600 MHz of RAM I encourage you to try to increase your bclk to where it corresponds to the frequency of your RAM and then run tests to see if that makes a difference. I'll go back and try to run the same tests with 1600 MHz to see where that falls to help support or defeat my argument.

If someone objects to my statements above, please comment and let me know why so we can understand this stuff. All my findings are based only on some readings I've done and what my test results show.

    EDIT:

I just ran some tests more and got subsequent synchronizations during execution of 1600 MHz at the time 8,8,8,24.

    1st series of tests:

    1600-888-24 (latency total 30ns)

    Duration: 03:14

    2nd series of tests:

    1600-888-24 (latency total 30ns)

    Time:05:34

The time difference between 1600 and 1866 enforcement was minimal. It was exactly the same time for the first test and the time of 1600 in 4 seconds slower than the calendar of 1866 came. Compare the differences to run the same tests AFTER increase the bclk and this discrepancy increases to 15 + seconds. (by only comparing tests performed to the highest cpu frequency because that plays a very important role in the performance).

  • Pavilion DV7-3165DX, Atheros AR9285 WiFi adapter, communication and incompatibility issues

After much research, I decided to buy a Pavilion DV7-3065DX. Then, I walked to my local Best Buy to say the 3065DX had been abandoned and was no longer available for purchase. However, the 3165DX, his successor had arrived and was very similar to the previous generation. After a brief discussion to justify the increase of prices with myself, I gave and was sold.

Within hours, I was in College, trying to connect to the WiFi network without success. After several hours becoming more and more frustrated, I decided to call it closes unexpectedly. Rushing home after class, I plugged the new Linksys WRT160N, I had also bought wireless router and configured on my desk. Once completed, I tried to connect using the new Pavilion. To my surprise, it worked! (And no problem whatsoever no less). So, apparently, the wireless adapter works, but does so only on some networks.

A week later, I tried to connect to a number of public and private WiFi networks of different types with limited success. Most importantly, I am able to connect to my home network, but not to the public networks in my college or city libraries. At one point, the Office for my college indicated that my WiFi adapter is one of a handful of cards on the list of incompatible devices to their network. As it was to buy the laptop in the first place, I am extremely frustrated.

I turned to the support pages of HP for a solution. I considered a update driver despite the use of the HP Wizard to keep abreast on all software downloads and updates. To my dismay, product for the Pavilion DV7-3165DX page lists of Broadcom WiFi adapter, which does not correspond to my hardware (Atheros AR9285). What's worse, is that the manufacturer's website offers no driver downloads to customers that its site is adapted directly to product manufacturers.

At this point, I'm increased and not sure what to do. I am already attached to this laptop. Apart from the war with his fingerprints on its black and shiny chrome surfaces shiny, the problem with the Atheros WiFi card is the only problem that I had. I hate having to go through the ordeal to return, and I do not think that this problem requires the sending of the product to HP for repair. Furthermore, I believe that if it came down to one of those, I simply return the product and find my way to another product by other manufacturers in total.

This certainly isn't the experience I had hoped with my first purchase of HP.

    Any suggestions?

I have the same question... However with me the solution wasn't in the pilot. I spent 3 hours on the phone with technical support, try to understand.

What it comes down to say that Atheros AR 9285 is a shi * ty wireless card. It supports 802.11n Protocol, but only 2.4 GHz (the same as the b/g frequencies). My Cysco wireless router was broadcasting 5 GHz Wireless-N and AR 9285 was not able to detect it. Once I changed the router settings to allow 2.4 GHz Wireless-N Networking, the Atheros card was able to connect under the Protocol N. However, the maximum speeds of 2.4 GHz card are slower than 5 GHz card.

I wish they would give an option to choose what wireless card to install in my laptop. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. I'm always done what they me screwed on.
