Raw disk used by the prompt on the same host, broadcasts available on other hosts in the Cluster

We have a Cluster of MS using RDMs in a host cluster ESXi 4.1 5.  The RDM physical Mode, on a guest on hostA, the storage is presented to the host b, hostC, pass, hostA, hostE.

It has always been my understanding (and I saw with other RDMs in the past) when a ROW gets used by a hostA of comments, it will be posted is no longer in the pool of strage avalible under the window "Add Storage" on the host b.-e... I would still be able to see as RDM LUN if I went to a guest and added another hard drive, but the host would no longer display it as storage avalible.

It is confirmed in the following article: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1016222

In my scenario, I can still see the storage that has been given to a guest on HostA as a RDM on hostsB-E in the add storage window. (this cause some problems when let storage recover 'unused' LUNS and storage that has been considered as non-allocated was actually released several guests as RDM.)

The article suggests that this occurs when the storage is not presented consistently on all hosts in a cluster.  We use EMC FC storage, and my storage administrators swear that LUNS are the same for all hosts in my cluster.

I search in the KB articles information and empty to come... I'll open a case with VMware, but was wondering if someone else has experienced problems similar, and that has been done on your side to solve (and hopefully help someone to avoid any similar problems)

In addition, there is an easy way to compare points of view "Add Storage" of all hosts in a cluster to verify that they see the same unallocated storage?

No, if the number of LUNs and the naa numbers game (don't forget the 16 and the last 8 digits of number of naa are still the same according to the table), you can have row filtering disabled Please check

The values below the default values are true

  • In the vSphere Client, select Administration > vCenter Server settings > Advanced settings.

  • config.vpxd.filter.rdmFilter; fake
  • config.vpxd.filter.vmfsFilter; fake

  • Use of the cluster and the self-supply

I move to a cloud with VCAC for self-supply infrastructure. How will this affect my use target for my HA cluster?  Previously, I was aiming for running each cluster to 80% usage of the maximum RAM and CPU on each host for average use.  now, I propose to allow vms to be implemented stand-alone service.  I can't control the procurement process but various customers and tenants can size the VMs at will without my notice.  Accordingly, I must be able to have available capacity more quickly to add virtual machines and not suddenly short of ability to cluster.  I want to minimize waste by running my pile of ability, but I also need to maximize the elasticity.  What are some guidelines on how to do it?  Anyone has experiences to share-

    1. What did you choose as a target of use and why?

    2. How do you plan ability / projected ability to cluster?

    3. have you used the admission control?

Looks like a cool project. Don't forget that from a point of view infrastructure HA and admission control are still trying to solve the same problem, recover VMS to a host or an operating system failure as soon as possible.

For example, if your new cluster includes 20 guests and you want to be able to have a host in maintenance mode and still suffer a failure of the host and you have decided to use the % based admission control strategy (this is the default recommendation, I recommend evaluate you your environment and determine if this is the right option for you) , you'll want to put the % to 10%. This will ensure that your cluster has sufficient resources to restart all running VMs. keep in mind that unless VMs come reservations, HA reserve capacity to start the virtual machine, there no performance guarantee.

In respect to your use of target, which depends on the SLA that you provide and your risk tolerance.

The last customer, I worked for responses was:

    1. we have reserved the capacity in a cluster such that we could have a host in maintenance mode and still lose a host and have no VMs know performance degradation

  • Change the disks used in the disks of OCR/vote DiskGroup

    Hello

    RDBMS...: 11.2.0.4

    ... OS: AIX 7.1

In our environment, we have a diskgroup used to store records OCR and voting. The diskgroup contains 3 discs 15 GB each and is configured with normal redundancy and is called "OCR".

My question is: We must change these 3 discs with 3 new disks to a different memory. I would like to know if it is possible to add these new 3 drives in the diskgroup OCR, wait for rebalancing and after this operation, remove the old records? This approach is viable? Or we need to create a new diskgroup, place the OCR and the discs with right to vote in this new diskgroup and remove the old diskgroup?

    Thanks in advance.

You can add and remove asmdisk by using the procedure in the DSO without problem, make sure just as there are enough failgroup to contain the votedisk.

    OCR and ASMSPFILE connection:

The OCR and the ASMSPFILE are stored similar to how Oracle database files are stored. Scopes are spread across all disks in the diskgroup and redundancy (which is the measurement scale) is based on the redundancy of the disk group. When you add and remove some asmdisk these extensions are moved automatically during the rebalancing process.

No relocation is necessary for OCR to ASM SPFILE.

    VOTEDISK topic:

The VOTEDISK is not stored as OCR, each VOTEDISK (one per ASMDISK) are placed directly on the ASMDISK (near LUN header) then is necessary relocation Votedisk.

Suppose you have 3 asmdisk each own FAILGROUP disc (A, B and C) and you add more ASMDISK 3.

So if you use a normal redundancy, you need to configure at least 3 new failgroup (a failgroup for each new ASMDISK).

When you issue "Alter diskgroup xx drop... drive A, B and C" the clusterware start automatic resettlement treat mobile votedisk to disks on failgroup D, E and F.

You will see the process on the alert_log of ASM and cssd.log.

After finishing process of rebalancing, check if they fall on disk have a status of 'TRAIN' and there is no votedisk thereon ($ crsctl query css votedisk).

  • How card ASM disk path to the physical drive on AIX?

    Hello world
I work on a plug-in for Oracle Enterprise Manager 10 g 2 on AIX 5.3 which monitors storage bays and supports databases in addition to the "emrep" database ASM One of the metrics of this plug-in is populated by the result of a korn shell script. Directly, the script runs on the AIX host (connected to the storage array cable CF via HBA ports) and retrieves the mapping for - disk - logical disk - LUN - ASM.

Now, I was able to get the mapping to physical disk - logical disk - LUN, but could not map drive ASM. I googled a lot for no idea, but did not find the answer to this specific problem.

Now, I have the list of physical disks used for the DSO by the command:

    LSPV

    hdisk0 0001c22ac8d664ca rootvg active
    hdisk1 0001c22aa51f496a Oracle active
    hdisk2 0001c22ac478263a zero active
    hdisk3 0001c22ac472549a Oracle active
    hdisk4 0001c22ac4725d6a Oracle active
    hdisk5 none None
    hdisk6 none None
    hdisk7 none None
    hdisk8 none None
    hdisk9 none None
    hdisk10 none None
    hdisk11 none None
    hdisk12 none None
    hdisk13 none None
    hdisk14 none None
    hdisk15 none None
    hdisk16 none None

Hdisk5-16 discs are ASM disks and there are currently of no PVID.

I also have the list of ASM disks by the command:

    ls-l/dev | grep oracle

    CRW - rw - 1 oracle dba 22, 6 12 may 00:02 asm_rd10_1a
    CRW - rw - 1 oracle dba 22, 10 Apr 21 07:27 asm_rd10_1b
    CRW - rw - 1 oracle dba 22, 7 May 09 13:53 asm_rd10_1c

    CRW - rw - 1 oracle dba 22, 15 May 09 13:54 asm_xbb2_rd5_1c

Now, I'm looking for a way to map these two lists with each other and had no luck so far.
Oracle provides this information somewhere in the OEM installation structure or y at - it a command in AIX that could provide a way to map the ASM disks on the physical disks?

Any help on this is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance...

FYI: ASMLib driver is not present on the system.

I am not familiar with aix, but I think you can get the major and minor numbers as follows:

    ls-l/dev/asm_rd_10_1a
    CRW - rw - 1 oracle dba 22, 6 12 may 00:02 asm_rd10_1a
    ls-l/dev/hdisk5
    CRW - rw - 1 root root 22, 6 12 may 00:02 hdisk5

the numbers would be 22 and 6.

That's just a guess, on HP - UX, it's like that, but it will be a little tricky

When do I have to consider creating a raw disk instead of the standard?

What are the advantages and disadvantages of RAW disk?

    Hello

RDM requires remote storage as a SAN. If you use a Local Storage LUN then you must use a CRUDE device using the method shown in this Blog of TechTarget.

  • I can reduce a virtual disk using Openmanage

I had a PERC H730 configured as a RAID 6, and a unique VD was created which contains 6 - 2 TB disk, which gave us a total of 7.5 TB of usable space. Now I don't know if I'm doing something wrong but windows server is only allowing me to create partitions of 2 TB and since we have an operating system installed there and the owners want to keep the recovery partition and we have the OEM partition, which gives me the possibility to create more than just 2 partitions of 2 TB each , so I have about 3 TB that are unallocated and I cannot use it.

So, am I doing something wrong on windows? and if not is there a way to reduce the disk used on the main VD configured on the RAID, so I can create a second disk and recover unused space.

I did in regards to the menu reconfigures Openmanage, but don't know if I can do it from there.

    Any help will be appreciated.

    -Jose

First of all, you can not "shrink" RAID arrays on RAID controllers, use less or use less disk space.

    Second:

    • Windows cannot use a 'disc' plus 2 TB unless it is converted to a GPT disk.
    • Windows cannot start a GPT 'disc' unless it is installed on the active UEFI system.

If the startup mode is set to BIOS, you're stuck - you will need to reinstall Windows with active UEFI or change the RAID configurations.

What OS are we talking about?

  • total consumption on the cluster by vm

My environment consists of a virtual centre with a bunch of 3 boxes of esx. We also use VMotion to move 3 servers. Is it possible to get using powershell, how a single virtual machine consumes total resources on the cluster vmware and who brings in a csv file? I ask for a single virtual machine, but really, I'm looking in the csv file to list all VM and what amount of resources (such as mem.consumed.average

mem.sysUsage.average and cpu.usage.average) they consume on the cluster.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

We will address this problem step by step.

    (1) statistics for virtual machines that may have been vmotioned

There is a problem when you ask - real-time statistics.

The reason is that these data are stored on the ESX Server, not on the virtual circuit.

The cmdlet Get-Stat returns only the data of the ESX host on which the virtual machine is running.

So, if we want to see statistical data for virtual machines that have been vmotioned, it is advisable to opt for one of the historical intervals!

Note that this is not a problem VITK, QueryPerf in the SDK method displays the same behavior.

    (2) how to calculate the % of its use against the cluster?

I don't think that the script should ask the percentages for statistics (e.g., cpu.usage.average).

In this case, it is better to go to statistics expressed in a value for which we also have a total value at the cluster level.

That means the script should measure for example use of the processor in MHz (cpu.usagemhz.average).

    (3) as the resources available on the cluster that take us?

On a cluster, we can make a simple addition of the resources available on each of the clusternodes.

For example, a 3-node cluster, where each node has a 2,669 GHz quadcore would have 3 x 4 x 2,669 GHz of CPU resources available.

But that's what we want to measure the consumption of the virtual machine against?

Only part of the total resources available on the server (a clusternode) ESX Server is allocated to the guests.

Part of available resources go to the "system".

Given the previous the next script, in my view, expresses the CPU usage and the memory of each virtual machine as a percentage of the available cluster resources.

    $report = @()

    $cluster = Get-Cluster | Get-View
    $clusterCPU = $cluster.Summary.EffectiveCpu
    $clusterMem = $cluster.Summary.EffectiveMemory * 1Mb

    $from = [Datetime]"03/05/2009 00:00"
    $to = [Datetime]"03/05/2009 23:59"

    Get-VM | % {
         $cpu = $_ | Get-Stat -Stat cpu.usagemhz.average -IntervalMins 5 -Start $from -Finish $to
         $mem = $_ | Get-Stat -Stat mem.consumed.average -IntervalMins 5 -Start $from -Finish $to
         for($i=0; $i -lt $cpu.Count; $i++){
              $row = "" | select VM, Timestamp, CPUperc, Memperc
              $row.VM = $cpu[$i].Entity.Name
              $row.Timestamp = $cpu[$i].Timestamp
              $row.CPUperc = "{0:N2}" -f ($cpu[$i].Value / $clusterCPU * 100)
              $row.Memperc = "{0:N4}" -f ($mem[$i].Value / $clusterMem * 100)
              $report += $row
         }
    }

  • Is it possible to order the right recovery disk set by using only the serial number?

    Hello

I'm trying to order a set of recovery disc for what is customized for VAIO laptop. I would like to be able to put it back exactly the same way that they were shipped originally. For some strange reason, because I was not asked for S/N, I know that I will not ship the correct game.

Since there is no return on the software, how can I be sure it's the correct game before ordering? Is their way to get the part number control myself using only S/N, if not, how about raising via serial number?

I've already tried this https://servicesales.sel.sony.com/ecom/accessories/web/categorySearch.do?operation=subCategorySearch... but do not recover my particular model because it is Canadian model purchased.

    Your help is really appreciated.

    Thank you for your support.

    They are here:

    MODEL: PCG - 31112L

MODEL NAME: VPCZ1390S (was a personal shopping via the online order of Sony of Canada with additional features and applications added - more than the Basic with the same model name model).

Please consult this site raw and obsolete from where it was originally custom. Although it is more useful, but it can provide an idea of what I mean, the link is http://store.sony.ca/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SYCTOProcess?storeId=20153&langId=200&catalogId=10080...

I think the specific set of recovery disks only who would be able to restore this address to his State of origin as the day, it was shipped via Sony, should be stopped by S/N and perhaps along the ST as well. If it is ordered using just the model and or the name of the template, the result would be a generic RDS used on all of the same model and would not now for his counterpart custom, with still the same exact model information.

    SERIAL NUMBER: J004DSU8

    SERIAL NUMBER: 54047221-0000247

I find more and more important to be able to see the actual email address of the sender rather than just displaying the name, because they do not usually show a company name - a domain would always be. Is it possible to customize the settings/write a file of script/tweak to add columns of name email & domain raw? When dealing with a number of people from the same company, it is difficult to order or nod thanks to a list of emails to find. I know also that 2 people with the same name to different companies and it is impossible to distinguish.

Secondly, as an addition of associated column, since a number of e-mail aliases join it would be useful to have a column to display the "received for" part of the source of the message that reveals the real enamel used in the To/CC/BCC, which led to me. Once again can it be twisted or scripted?

I have programming experience but did not Add ons, and would be open to a proposal which is to create a custom module if adding columns with custom values is possible like this.

I wanted to create a RESET DISK of PASSWORD, but NOOOOO - my machine has a FLOPPY DRIVE. No product only the CD/DVD PLAYERS and one cannot change the a drive to a different letter designation.

If you really NEED to do this, you are up the proverbial Creek, apparently.  Hard to believe!   How long has he given now that ANYONE used FLOPPEIES (small square disks)?  Certainly, we are asked not to believe that nobody is realized for this oversight!  I TRIED a CD/DVD - no dice.  My machine has 2 CD/DVD players, a Terrabyte Mobile with a slot drive.  My spouse has built this machine, and it is ensured that there are enough USB connectors that I could plant some tulips!  (It's photography & video editing - retirees have a busy life, that pays well.)  There are sites for readers of any persuasion EXCEPT the 1998 'PLACE floppy DISKS'.  Also, as with most machines, I do not want to return and crush things that my husband has a loading on the drives and call other than the names they bear within the network as things go well, otherwise.  We can't decide to call H Drive (CD/DVD drive), drive A, to say, just for the sake of my need to create a password reset disk.  My machine does not allow me to do things on the "fly".  I have to create a NEW one (and download something from those that already exist).  A ray of light shines through the same mess!  I think that maybe I can use a "USB key"?  Does not have a CD rom, but just explore, I ran across the words using a player instead of 'A' USB flash drive.  Hoping that USB key or "memory stick" is acceptable!

    Hi Janice,.

If you are using Vista, please see the following: http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/window-on-windows/create-a-vista-password-reset-disk-using-a-usb-flash-drive/547.

If using Windows 7, please see the following: http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/window-on-windows/use-a-usb-flash-drive-to-create-windows-password-reset-disk-in-windows-7/4142?tag=rbxccnbtr1.

From what I read, it seems quite simple and easy in both cases.  And not worry about drive letters - it will take whatever drive letter you choose (or who has been assigned to the flash player).

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!
