RAW to DNG format convert.

With the help of PS CS5 and Nikon D200, bridge and PS see the large RAW files. However, I just got a Nikon D7100, and the PS does not recognize RAW files. I downloaded the new DNG Converter, but my question is, RAW files should they be converted to DNG program first, is not a plugin for PS? I think that a plugin would work within the PS, without having to be filled separately. Thank you.

The dng converter is not a plugin, then Yes, we must first convert them files camera raw to DNG best.

  • Question about Canon Raw to DNG format convert

I'm looking for help with the Canon RAW files to DNG conversion.  I plan to migrate storage of DNG files to keep having to carry the sidecar autour files.  At the beginning of the year to use the Adobe raw conversion utility, I notice the image is changed and would like to know if this is typical or if I'm doing something wrong.  I have attached two screenshots that show the original raw photo and the histogram and the converted file and the obvious compressed histogram.  Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

The actual conversion to DNG does not change the raw data. I suspect that what you see is maybe a default rendering in your application? Impossible to say what you use of the screenshot.

  • 14-bit NEF to DNG format convert

    Hi all

given that I can't find definitive information on this... How Lighroom 4 deals with 14 bit NEF raw files (coming in this case a D7000) when he converted to the DNG format? All 14 bit color information kept or is it some sort of loss or the current conversion?

    See you soon

    Michael

NEF-14 bits files will convert the DNG files with 14-bit resolution. There may be minor differences, the DNG format has different fields to the NEF format, so there is necessarily a process of translation, but there will be no loss of resolution.

  • Filter in adobe bridge to select only the Raw files to DNG format convert

Here's my problem - I have a new camera DMC TZ70 and 5.7 Lightroom does not recognize the. RW2 files. I would need to buy LR6! Maybe later.

So I thought that I import via the bridge and convert to DNG.

So I open the bridge, and then select the camera - great - BUT there are files for Raw, the same number of JPEG files images and some .bdm. TDT etc files. (for example 3 raw + 7 others).

I can set up a filter to Show only Raw files when I see what files are in the folder of the card at the Bridge, but when I select "get photos from camera" I can either select all OR deselect and then I need to MANUALLY select raw files. There seems not to be a way to set up a filter in the form of Downloader so that bridge selects only the Raw files for conversion.

If I left it all, Bridge Converts the RW2 in DNG files, but also provides in the JPGs and other files. I can delete these later, but this seems an inefficient way to do it.

Is it possible to manually select raw files in the form of Photo Downloader?

    Advice please, thank you, Mel

I guess the answer's bridge doesn't do what I want, but not Lightroom - bought LR6

  • I have a Nikon D 810 camera and Photoshop CS5.  I downloaded camera 8.8 Raw and DNG converter.  I can't open the raw (.nef) files, and treat them with the DNG Converter. What's not?

I have a Nikon D 810 camera and Photoshop CS5.  I downloaded camera 8.8 Raw and DNG converter.  I can't open the raw (.nef) files, and treat them with the DNG Converter. What's not?  Thank you!

As I said earlier, the DNG Converter works ONLY on files, not on files.

Do not target the individual files.  Target Of THE FOLDER that contains them.

Make sure that said FILE DO NOT contain any other files , you have already settled before, or your settings will be eliminated when re-converted to DNG.

No need to write long explanations.  More messages are, the more chances you have of receiving relevant responses.

  • Why CS4 will not open DNG files converted from raw Olympus E - M1 files?

For several years, I was able to use the DNG Converter to convert. My E - M1 Olympus ORF raw files and then open them for treatment in CS4. Suddenly CS4 quit recognizing these DNG files saying "Photoshop could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file"

I have not changed preferences. I use E - M1 v3.0, DNG Converter v8.3.0.141 on a Mac. I deleted the converter DNG several times, even reinstalled an earlier version, but nothing does not change.

However, CS4 will open the converted DNG files from Pentax raw. PEF files of my K-5. Weird. This is the Olympus raw DNG conversions that will not open.

I can view the DNG files converted into question in the preview of the Mac just fine, but CS4. Any ideas will be appreciated.

Don't forget the compatibility of the DNG Converter is defined to provide support for your version of ACR:

  • Cannot be saved in DNG format in 14 elements

After a few global changes, I converted my camera raw file into a dng file. Now, I want to make local changes. So I clicked on open and open the file in the normal window. After that I made my changes I wanted to save the file under a .dng but it wasn't one of the options. I heard that it should be possible.

    Then how?

The ACR raw converter does not convert only the raw data to an image format, but it also takes into account your settings to adjust the color and tone of your image.

Available in Photoshop ACR version has more features features than elements for these adjustments of colors and tones. In a way, it can replace the part of the facilities provided in pixel editors editing: Photoshop or Elements. He has even "brushes" to set the tones the. But anyway, these "local" adjustments are very limited compared to what you can do with a publisher of real pixels such as Photoshop and elements.

    Hard facts:

-You can never convert any raw image formats such as jpeg, tiff, or psd format.

-DNG format is a "raw" format when it comes to the actual raw data of cameras; It records and maintains this raw information with only a standard format.

-When it is original such as JPEGs or raw data "not raw" data you have already converted and edited, DNG does not convert to 'raw' (it is impossible and absurd), it only "packs" your data to pixels in DNG format. This has benefits, but in this case, you lose part of the flexibility and power to work on the actual raw data.

In your case, you add local changes to an already converted format: you are no longer in the first case. You are in a situation where a 'normal' Editor is the default choice. Elements lets you choose the other option: 'Open as raw' gives you the advantage of using the tools that you are used, which allows you to work "parametric" in saving the settings of your sliders instead of producing a version of output to the pixel in the image format.

  • Raw to DNG FYI

Just wanted to share some information with the group, if you are sensitive to the size of files and storage space, you do not want to import files as DNG files raw in Lightroom.  I have a Canon 70 d and me shooting in raw and convert to DNG on import.  I discovered that the DNG files were almost two times bigger than the original raw files and a couple of MB larger than uncompressed RAW file.  However, RAW conversion to DNG turns out to be smaller than the raw file.  I don't experience sRAW so I have no idea what he will do.

Canon sRaw and raw formats are stupid complex and not really thought longer. What do we Canon is "chroma subsampling", which basically means that the data are transformed to luma and chroma, and then some in proportion to the chrominance information is thrown. AKA, you have information luma for each pixel in the image, but information from chroma that for each pixel of second or third - the ratio varies according to whether it is raw or sRaw. (I'm simplifying a lot, btw. Google chroma subsampling if you want real details). If you now have a much smaller file, without much loss of apparent detail, because the human eye is much more sensitive to luma detail details of chroma.

The problem for the conversion of the DNG format is that the DNG specification includes no any way to encode the cannon-style chroma subsampling, so to convert to DNG, the information must be converted to a 'normal' image, which is much larger. That can make the DNG is other forms of compression, notably without loss. If the final size is the result of the expansion due to the reversal of her chroma subsampling and compression by some DNG compression options you have defined. End result is that the file can be anywhere from a lot bigger for a little smaller than the original, depending on the options and the nature of the image.

  • Copyping raw as DNG files files - import, copy to the choice of location, etc.?

    First of all:

When I copy as DNG files raw files, the pane on the right shows where will be placed the copies.  (I use Windows 7) I did not have many choices and cannot set a default value.  The default choice is 'My images' on the C: drive.  I have a Solid State Drive, SSD and NOT to store my photos on this small 256 GB drive.  I store my images on an internal hard drive.

All I want to do is on the default 'Copy To' location where I store my images.  I want to copy them into the original folder, in a separate folder (for example, LR DNG).  Instead, I have to open the SSD, find files and copy them into my favourite place.  It's very irritating.

    Second:

Worse, it seems that the copy function puts the images copied in several files.  I had 11 images from raw files that have been put in three separate files.  It seems pretty stupid to me.  It makes me work more open files and copy them to the root folder.  It's very irritating.   What happens here?

If these two issues can be resolved? Thank you, in advance.

I use the DNG converter stand-alone that works faster. You can process files in a single folder has your final destination and then make the DNG in Lightroom using:

  • Profiles of camera in LR (native camera raw or dng)?

I did a few patterns for my Canon 5 d and the 5dMkII using the Adobe DNG Profile Editor and I now have in the calibration Panel in LR4.

Is there a difference between using a file .dng and .cr2 (Canon Raw) with these profiles? They both seem to loook the same thing, I can say? (I usually keep my raw in native format files, since I use the Capture 1 sometimes and it can not read the .dng files).

    Thank you

    Alan.

Once you create a DNG profile (which requires a DNG file) there is no difference in using this profile on an owner or DNG raw file as long as both files are in the same device.

  • Conversion of RAW to DNG will keep previous changes already made in LR 2.5?

I shoot RAW with a Panasonic DMC-FZ50.  The changes I made to the files Raw will be intact if I convert my current library of RAW to DNG or changes will be lost?  I currently have to save all the changes XMP file as well.  I'm under LR2.5 in Windows Vista 64-bit Home Edition.

    Thank you

Be sure to convert in Lightroom (in one of the menus)! If you use the outside of Lightroom DNG Converter, you will lose the connection to your images. Finally, said also ambient, you keep the changes, but your Sidecar is not recovered. Backups of the metadata and change the settings are now written in the dng files instead of in the xmp files. I think that there is something that you will lose, which is the State of origin of the image in the split screen to develop. It will now be the State in which was the image when convert you to DNG.

  • I downloaded the Microsoft compatibility pack. He asks me to double click the File Format Converter.exe file on my hard disk to start the Setup program.

Original title: could not open the file.

I received by e-mail a file which I can not open... so I downloaded the Microsoft compatibility pack. He asks me to double click the File Format Converter.exe file on my hard disk to start the Setup program.  I'm not savvy and don't know where to find it!  Your help will be admired.  BF

Hello, I downloaded myself today and when I read your question, I went looking for him.

The only place where I found it was prefetch.

However, I was able to view the file after downloading.

When I download I always save it to the desktop, then the scanner and then double-click it to install. If you haven't noticed where it was installed, check your temp folder.

Or download it again and save it to the desktop.

    I hope this helps.

  • Importation of raw as DNG problem photos

In raw as DNG files import, the photos are forthcoming as long as b & amp; w next to photos JPEG of same color image.  Why?  I can change the b & amp; w to color in the mode to develop.  How can I get the raw images to DNG import in color.  Thank you

Maybe you have changed inadvertently by default develop settings (including B & W for a specific camera) or ISO setting. To check, take one of the B & W DNG in the develop module, hold the SHIFT key and the down-right Reset button will change on "Reset (Adobe). Click it, and revert to the color image? If so, Yes, that's the problem... go to Menu develop > set the defaults and click on "Restore Adobe default settings" in the dialog box.
