Re: 610CT OS INSTALL---DOS/WIN3.11/95/98

I try to install any operating system (DOS, or a Microsoft Windows operating system specifically) on a Toshiba Portege 610CT. The hard drive in the unit has been cleared, and the system boot with the message:

"Insert system disk in drive.
Press any key when ready... »

No floppy drive or CD-ROM drive, I try to use a 2.5 "to 3.5" adapter player with my PC to install all the files necessary to boot the system.

(a) can you tell me which files I need to have installed on the hard drive to have it boot properly?
(b) may explain the installation procedure in brief?
(c) could advise me an other resources regarding the 610 CT and fresh OS installs?

There are five main things you should do:

Format HDD using FAT16 (or FAT32 depending on operating system)
* Copy the Windows CD installation files to a folder on the HARD disk
* Activate the disk HARD by running FDISK in DOS
* Copy the files BACK/95/98 system disk HARD running SYS C: from a floppy to boot BACK.
* Modify the Autoexec. STRUGGLING to run the exe to install Windows, the first time that the HARD drive is started in the Portege.

You should at least get a floppy for the other PC drive, which would make things a lot easier.
The BACK boot floppies can be downloaded from www.bootdisk.com

    Hello

The fact is that you have 13 laptop and I am quite skeptical that someone will write here the whole story how to get this laptop for work. After reading your ad, I was a little concerned about this laptop and I found the info Portege 610CT shipped with Windows 95.

I also checked the Toshiba support page and there you can find the drivers and utilities for this model of laptop. Anyway, if I remember well do like this:

Move the hard drive in the laptop with a CD-ROM, but instead of install, just copy the CD of windows 95 disk hard (if there is a folder win95 on CD all you need).
Then put back the hard drive in the laptop Portege, go to this directory and launch the installation.

  • Install Windows XP from W7 return

I installed W7, but many program a lot of program did not support with W7, I install DOS Windows XP always a mistake, please help me, thanks

Honestly, I think I know your problem. You do not have a disk to install XP to the real address. You can be to loan/aid a recovery to reset setting disk factory for operating systems with pre-installed XP that you or someone else created with XP, you can't just install XP if it is not already installed.
(Basically, you can only use a recovery disk if XP is already installed on your computer to reset your current installation of XP to factory settings).

You get a real installation for XP disc. Not a recovery disk.
I had the same problem once, except that I used a Windows 7 recovery disk.

  • CANNOT INSTALL WINDOWS XP ON A MACHINE WITH FREE BACK PRE-INSTALLED

    Hello

I am also facing the same problem. I have a HP 550 laptop and it came with FREE pre-installed DOS. Its an INTEL Core 2 Duo with IGB RAM, 160 GB HD drive and also bought the machine 3 days back. I was tring to install WinXP on this Machine. But he won't go after the point where it says "STARTING WINDOWS" or something. At this point, it gives the blue screen and an error.

No matter what reliable help would be appreciated and would be grateful if it is developed as I am a newbie.

    Kind regards

    BUDHUS

The HP 550 is a portable class business and should have two options for installing XP.

    1. enter in the BIOS by pressing F10 at startup. If you have the option of Bios Setup to disable the native sata mode, XP will install without problem, no sata driver needed. It will be on the tab of the System Configuration.

    2. If you do not have the setting in the Bios, it's the driver sata for your machine:

Download and run, create a disk OR cancel disk creation. The files will be extracted to C:\Swsetup\sp37005 to use with Nlite.

You can use Nlite to integrate the drivers in a new XP installation cd. NLite will still burn the new cd of XP.
Very easy, really, just follow the guide below closely.

  • ThinkPad 560 X - How the hell do you have the CD of external work?

I just bought a 560 X used to use a development for Windows 98 computer.

HARD drive was empty. I am looking for the external CD (P/N 1969-010) to work.

I installed DOS 6.22 software then Cardsoft for DOS. When I inserted the IBM IDE PC card, the system emits a signal indicating that it has recognized that a card has been inserted, but nothing else happens.

I have tracked down a lot of files to options/install/etc on the support site but have not yet tried all the.

Will try to install Windows 3.1 and using some install files for Cardsoft for 3.1 but I guess just at present.

I have the impression that there should be an installation file/program for the CD itself, but did not find one that looks right.

I just want to get the CD to work so I can install Windows 98. Then I need to be able to use the CD with Windows 98.

    Any suggestions?

Solved by myself - after a few permutations.

    (1) installed BACK 6.22

    2)
Using another system, I find the driver on the Lenovo site,
files for CardSoft for DOS (pctpcdos.exe) and IBM 20 X Max Portable
    P/N 1969010 (820xnosd.exe) CD-ROM drive

These two files are self-extracting compressed files. Execution of creates them a diskette in A:

    (3) BACK started on the Thinkpad X 560

    (4) Insert the diskette for Cardsoft created by pctpcdos.exe software.

    5)
Install.exe Ran from the diskette. This installs BACK support for the PCMCIA
cards. In this case, we want to use the IBM IDE PC Card used for
connect the CD to the 560 X.

    (6) switched disks, inserted the diskette created for CD 820xnosd.exe

    7)
Passed to A: and run install.exe - important, for some reason any
the installation program does not run correctly unless you switch to the A:
drive. Using A:install does not work. You do A: the current
    drive.

    (8) the CD is now available at BACK

    (9) copied all the contents of a Windows 98 installation CD into a directory named WIN98CD hard disk

    10) ran Windows Setup from the hard drive.

    11)
After the installation is complete and has detected all new
material, I used the point to install new hardware from the control panel
looking for a new material that was not installed.

    (12) the CD
has been located. I put the Setup CD disk (created in step 2 of the)
file 820xnosd.exe) and made the installation of the driver to the A: drive.
Windows finds the correct driver and - hop, the CD player is now
recognized and is usable from Windows 98.

    After getting the CD
working, I used the other drivers that I found during my search of the
Lenovo - things like audio and video - site and install them.

    Here
is a complete list of the files that I downloaded from the Lenovo site. They
include various support for BACK, Win3.1, Win95 and Win98

    Note-
the date and time are the date and time when I downloaded the files to
my system, not the date and time of the file on the Lenovo site.

    Hello

I have a desktop R2 of Alienware x 51 and when I first bought it came with Windows 8. Long story short, I decided to install Windows 7 instead and for that I had to disable the secure in the BIOS boot option. Now I decided to install DOS Windows 8 and it worked and everything, but when I turn it back on Secure Boot it gives me a blue screen with the message: inaccessible_boot_device.

So I don't know what to do here. Basically, what I want is to have Windows 8 on my computer with secure startup, commissioning. I don't mind not duty re - install Windows 8 given that I didn't restore my backups but I always try to solve this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello

I re-formatted my computer last night and ended up resolving this issue so I thought I would update this matter with my solution.

    Basically, I followed this guide:

    www.eightforums.com/.../38486-need-help-formatted-genuine-Windows-8-Lenovo.html

With the help of the media Windows Installation tool, I was able to install Windows 8.1 Secure Boot with UEFI active. Please note that I used a USB Flash drive and not a DVD, apparently, it makes the whole process better somehow.

    Hey @ApoorvMishra ,

    Welcome to the HP Forums!

I understand you are trying to install apps on your SD card instead of internal storage.

Unfortunately, this is not a feature available on any Android device that does not have root access.

There are methods available, but most require rooting the device, or by using the APKs HP could not support or encourage.

  • Windows 95 to Windows 7. Windows compatibility works do not to install from dos/Windows 95 version of Master of Orion 2. Is there another way?

    Hello

I have a dos/Windows 95 master of Orion 2 and really desperate male relative.  Is it possible to install this game on a Windows 7 system?   He repeats to me that there is a mismatch due to 64-bit system.  I used the program in the control panel for trying to install programs designed for earlier versions of windows, but the compatibility program was not able to help me.  I also tried the right click on the Setup icon, select properties and change the compatibility of the system, but also the resolution here, but alas no luck.  Thank you!

    Hello EBahama.

If its a DOS game I would suggest using DOSBox.  It's a bit complicated so I won't have a full run down here.  But assuming that this male relative has used BACK before he shouldn't have any problems.

If it is a real 16-bit Windows application.  Then you could use a Virtual Machine, assuming that your CPU supports the required technology (many do not) and installs an earlier version of Windows on them.  Unless you use the professional version of Windows 7.  Then you can download 'XP Mode' which is a virtual machine that comes with a copy of Windows XP.

A failure there is a Master of Orion 3 released a few years ago, I'm not on top of my head, if its compatible with Windows 7 64 bit.  But there are also the Sins of a Solar Empire, which is compatible, is a little different, because his real time, but his little near the same concept. :-) Paul Smith - MVP for Windows desktop experience...
