Portege 610CT OS INSTALL---DOS/WIN3.11/95/98

I try to install any operating system (DOS, or a Microsoft Windows operating system specifically) on a Toshiba Portege 610CT. The hard drive in the unit has been cleared, and the system boot with the message:

"Insert system disk in drive.
Press any key when ready... »

No floppy drive or CD-ROM drive, I try to use a 2.5 "to 3.5" adapter player with my PC to install all the files necessary to boot the system.

(a) can you tell me which files I need to have installed on the hard drive to have it boot properly?
(b) may explain the installation procedure in brief?
(c) could advise me an other resources regarding the 610 CT and fresh OS installs?

Hello

The fact is that you have 13 laptop and I am quite skeptical that someone will write here the whole story how to get this laptop for work. After reading your ad, I was a little concerned about this laptop and I found the info Portege 610CT shipped with Windows 95.

I also checked the Toshiba support page and there you can find the drivers and utilities for this model of laptop. Anyway, if I remember well do like this:

Move the hard drive in the laptop with a CD-ROM, but instead of install, just copy the CD of windows 95 disk hard (if there is a folder win95 on CD all you need).
Then put back the hard drive in the laptop Portege, go to this directory and launch the installation.

There are five main things you should do:

Format HDD using FAT16 (or FAT32 depending on operating system)
    * Copy the Windows CD installation files to a folder on the HARD disk
    * Activate the disk HARD by running FDISK in DOS
    * Copy the files BACK/95/98 system disk HARD running SYS C: from a floppy to boot BACK.
    * Modify the Autoexec. STRUGGLING to run the exe to install Windows, the first time that the HARD drive is started in the Portege.

You should at least get a floppy for the other PC drive, which would make things a lot easier.
The BACK boot floppies can be downloaded from www.bootdisk.com

I have a portege M400 and im hardly set any operating system of windows on them. When it gets to the stage where he asks what hard drive to put in place the windows files to, it does not detect the drives.

I also have an image on a hard drive that I use a universal driver restore program to restore to any laptop regardless of the make and model and which also blue screens after the logo of windows xp when it starts up. The toshiba is the first laptop that I fell on this issue.

The BIOS is currently 1.8 I think, I can't even put the hard drive in compatibility mode or AHCI.

im a little confused about restrictions of this laptop.

Can someone guide me on what I need to do to install windows on this machine please?

Timox is right: the RAID driver must be added during the installation of Windows XP.
During installation, you will be asked to add 3rd third-party drivers. As I m not wrong not you must press F6 to add the RAID driver.

Very important note: do not format the HARD drive once the RAID driver has been added because this would remove the RAID driver from the HARD drive and installing Windows XP will fail again.

    Hello

1 don't forget to prepare your hard disk with fdisk (a bootable partition) and format it with the Fat32 file system

    2. start by a MSDos saved in your floppy drive-drive with drivers for your PCMCIA CDrom drive (Freecom)

    3. copy the entire i386 to the W2K installation CD directory your HD, be sure to have loaded smartdrive, otherwise it will take ages!

4 start again with the saved, go to the i386 directory and start Windows NT

You can look here for more information about freecom pilots and the bootdisks: http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=19232
On your 3440 it should be easier than with the R100 because of normal 2.5 "HD 6 GB, but the problem is basically the same

  • Can Portege M400 - I install SATA2 HARD drive?

I want to replace my old SATA1 80 GB HD with a new 250 GB HD, but I can not get a proper HD SATA1, are the SATA II compatible with the M400 HDs? Would your recommend a suitable HD?

Also, I want to install Windows 7 starts as a clean install (to replace the current XP Tablet edition). I seem to remember that there could be problems with getting drivers raid in place first, is this correct?

    Can anyone help please?

    TIA

    Chris

    Hello!

Disks hard SATA2 will work in Portege M400 because they are compatible downgrade to SATA1. It s the same interface but the theoretical transfer rate is higher. The only difference which s.

For the installation of Windows 7, you should try the RAID for Vista driver. The Vista drivers are also work on Windows 7.

  • Portege Z830: Cannot install Win7, complains about driver CD/DVD

    Hello!

I have a brand new Portege Z830 and as usual wanted to start by installing a new installation of Windows 7 x 64 (that I don't want the software provided and cannot be trusted, that it is safe in any case). I have saved all of the disk, prepared a flashdisk USB bootable with Windows Setup and it. The flashdisk OK boots, Windows wonder about my language and keyboard, and then shows a screen where I can choose between installation, repair and something else (the Recovery Console, I think).

I click on install, Windows starts the installation program aand once a first dialog box appears, it displays an error message that basically says (this is a translation of the message from my localized Windows): "a required CD/DVD drive driver is missing. If you use a driver from the floppy disk, CD, DVD, or the flashdisk, insert now. "And I can't get over this error message. The strange thing is, there is no reason for that Windows requires no additional driver, because he can read the installation flashdisk (apparently) and he can see the ultrabook SSD, too (can be verified as well in the recovery console and clicking the browse of this dialog box). So far I have tried:

    (1) four different Windows 7 images (two of them to MSDN AA, two physical, that have been used successfully to install the OS before).

    (2) switch SATA mode to AHCI Compatible.

    (3) two different flashdisks.

    (4) any combination of the boot order.

Nothing has worked. I even tried e-mailing of Toshiba, but all messages to return with 'user unknown' (understandable, I had to guess addresses since Toshiba doesn't seem to provide some official way to communicate with them - or is hiding if well I have found it). Does anyone have an idea what I can try next? I rather like the Z830 and I'd love to use it, but the ability to install my own installation of the operating system is essential for me.

    Thanks, Pepak

    > I tried e-mailing of Toshiba...
Maybe stupid question now, but have you tried to contact Microsoft too? If the BIOS is OK, and if all the USB ports work correctly, I don t think it is Toshiba related issue. Toshiba offers notebook with the original recovery image (WIN7 64-BIT HOME PREMIUM) and ability to create bootable USB stick with the recovery image that can be used when you want.

What you do now is your own installation of the OS. Toshiba has to do is to offer to all the important factors, download tools and utilities on the drivers page.

What else could you try? Try to get external USB ODD and trying to install WIN7 using Microsoft installation disc. I'm sure it will work.

  • Portege R200 - re - install Windows XP

We just took delivery of a Toshiba Portege R200 as an assessment
Especially the small size Toshiba laptops. We bought from another manufacturer
laptops in the past, but these come (strangely) with PCMCIA slots so that we cannot use
    Vodafone 3 G/GPRS cards.

Anyway, this isn't the point. As seems to be the case with modern
manufacturers, the laptop is loaded to the top with all kinds of garbage (sorry useful)
utilities) which we certainly do not want! So we want to re - install plain
Windows XP Pro vanilla and from there - we have our own build
    Configuration.

Apart from the laptop doesn't come only not with a CD/DVD drive.
It came only with a "recovery CD". What is this recovery
Contain CDs? What is a Windows XP Pro installation CD or an image of the laptop with
all the useful stuff already installed. So late, how should we do
get a CD-ROM of relocation? I guess it's an OEM Windows XP Pro
    license there.

    Thank you, Rob.

[Edited by: admin on 1st June 06 21:31]

    Hi Rob

Recovery image contains the operating system, all necessary drivers, Toshiba designed tools and utilities (;)) very useful utilities and some applications such as WinDVD or even antivir program.) If you use recovery media that you will have factory settings as after the first start.

In my opinion, you should preinstall unit with media recovery because on this path, all hardware components will be perfect set up. After that, you can remove all the stuff that you n t want.

Otherwise, you can install your own operating system by using the Microsoft full version CD, and then install all the drivers only. You have them on CD tools & utilities, or you can download them from the download page of Toshiba. All that s!

If you have any other questions, please write again.

    Hi mate,

What version of Windows XP you are trying to install? Windows XP Professional or Tablet edition? You have the available recovery? If Yes, then you should use it :)

  • Portege M400: Cannot install windows XP

    Hello

My friend gave me his Toshiba Portege M400 (PPM40E) at the table of settings windows XP (HHD is already formatted copmletely).

Before that I've never worked with SATA controller

So, when installing RAID drivers are required for any HDD lying.
I bought the USB floopy and downloaded some drivers from Intel.

Having suffered a bit, I found requireded (as I thought), hard disk drivers detected (even the license agreement I signed) but that pilots still needed to proceed with the installation.

IF someone faced this problem can you send me on my e-mail ([email protected]) required drivers or give me an exact link?
    Looking forward to your advice.

    Thank you for understanding,
    Best regards from Russia

    Hello

Maybe a stupid question but why you do not use supplied recovery media for the installation of the OS? As much as I know Portege M400 (PPM40E) comes with Windows XP edition PC of Table (teacher WXP).

Anyway, check it please this article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316401/en-us

  • Portege Z30T-cannot install drivers LTE

    I recently bought a new PORTEGE Z30T-A PT24CE-01600EN5
updated to Version Microsoft Windows OS 8.1 Pro 6.3.9600 with its CD.

I noticed today my connection LTE / 4G dropped several times and it was fixed when I restarted Windows, but then the LTE adapter deletes completely himself and connection
    .
Whenever the connection drops, I check the Device Manager and there is no LTE device more so I have to restart again. And when he finds that he is the "generic mobile broadband adapt" not Sierrea.

I go to Device Manager under network adapters---> EM7305 here for this device that is LTE the driver provider is displayed as Microsoft with the 6.3.9600 version 16453 dating from October 31, 13.

    Then I downloaded the driver LTE Sirerra from TOSHIBA Web site, here's what they recommend: [driver LTE | https://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_driver_details.jsp?service=EU&selCategory = 2 & selFamily = 4 & selSeries = 362 & selProduct = 17899 & STAS hortMod = 4655 & language = 13 & selOS = 46 & selType = 438 & upload year = & monthupload = & dayupload = & useDate = null & mode = allMachines & search = & action = search & macId = & country = a he's & selectedLanguage = 13 & type = 438 & page = 1 & ID = 90092 & OS ID = 46 & driverLanguage = 42].

I've installed several times but nothing changes, always driver of Microsoft it.
Sierra is displayed as "Location Siearra wireless sensor" but not under network adapters.

A little this driver deleted and moved no more.
This seems to be a driver problem. Someone at - it a similar problem?
Configure the laptop, it took me a week; I really don't want to use recovery each time without understanding why.

It seems that, up to now in this forum no one has reported that emits a similar LTE pilot.
The question is: the same issue has been published in the factory system pre-installed?

I guess you can't provide the answer to this question and so we cannot say with certainty that this material related question isn t.

In any case, on the page of the Toshiba UE driver you can find a lot of drivers and tools of Toshiba for this device. All the tools and software as well as the BIOS should be updated to the last State. Check if you are using the latest version of the BIOS.
Then I recommend you to install the driver manually through the Device Manager.

The driver package that you downloaded from the Toshiba driver page is compressed. You must decompress the package. Inside of this package, you will also find and the exe file. It is also a zipped package. Right click on this package and unpack the exe file.

Now you should see all the driver files and should be able to install the driver through Device Manager by using the Advanced installation procedure.

  • Portege 3490, to install new HDD with windows xp ready?

My hard drive failed recently on my portege 3490. I bought a 20 GB seagate replacement hard drive. I installed Windows XP pro by connecting the drive (via adapter) to my office and ran the installation cd.

I thought that I could then just mount the drive in the Portege and be good to go. However when I turn right away on the system asks me to insert the disc system.

I don't have a floppy drive and my single cd is a USB and I can't use it to start.

Someone at - it any ideas how I can get this working?

I plugged my other laptop (Toshiba no) with the same drive and it booed immediately. Thanks for your help

[Edited by: admin on 27 June 05 07:03]

    Hello

Unfortunately I have no drivers list, but on the download from Toshiba site you will find about 18 different drivers for your device using BONE of W2000. Check it on http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com

As far as I know, it won't be easy to do something without floppy drive. I have no much experience with the Portege series but you can try to make two partitions on the second, you can copy the OS disk and start the installation of this partition. Even if you do this, you must start the unit with the startup disk.

  • Portege R700 - saver installed on Windows 7 64 bit

    Hello

I was looking for a way to reduse noise from the fan on a Win7 Portege R700-174 and read to install 'Energy savings' from the Toshiba support site.

Installation was OK, but I can't use ist because common Module is not installed. I get an error ' Code: 0 x 2. I already understand that 'Save energy' and 'Common Module' is not designed for windows 7. Why I was able to install it anyway?

Now when I try to remove the 'save energy', I still have another error and uninstall fails.

What can I do? Any help is appreciated!

    Concerning
    Michael

    Hey,.

Toshiba common modules and energy savings are designed for Windows XP only! This software isn't compatible with Vista and Windows 7. In this case, you need to install the package of added value.

In any case, not it s too late and you need to remove the installed software. If you get an error when uninstalling, I recommend the use of CCleaner to remove programs. CCleaner can also uninstall all the software that you have installed and it s freeware tool. Do a Google search for download and try to uninstall tools Toshiba again.

In the old notebooks from Toshiba, I would setup just a package of COMMON MODULE, but I can't find something like this for Vista.

Any help on this appreciated. Please, send them to [email protected], too.

    Hello Jiri

As a first step, I will confirm what Robin wrote on the package of added value. Back to your problem: no one knows what kind of software you installed and t is possible that now you have some negative influence on the functionality of Flash cards. Please try to reactivate the flash cards. You can do this next start - all programs-Toshiba-Utilities-Restart Flash Cards.

To be honest, after installation of some software there are many issues with your laptop nice Portege and maybe you need to restore the operating system to an earlier time using System Restore option. After having done that, I'm sure that everything will be OK again.
