RE ESX 3.0.1 access host.

This isn't a matter of solving problems in itself, but more than "someone at - he heard of this issue before? Where I work one other group has a ticket opened with Vmware cordially an ESX 3.0.1 system (don't know the exact version).

The system is a HP DL585 G1. From time to time the system shows as disconnected in VC. When in this State, the system are not accessible via SSH or via stand-alone VIC. The system are not accessible from the console. The VMs (residing on SAN LUN) continue to run and show no signs of problems. To resolve this problem, the system must be rolled, power which the client does not like.

There is no obvious signs of errors in the logs in/var/log/vmkernel etc etc. HP agents are a little out of date (they are where the 7.8 reserve is 8.11), but there is no odd message in /var/spool/compaq/cma.log and no HP alerts don't that sound like this issue in the history of the revisions to the agents

Vmware technology said that the appearance of the log data that the SC has entered into a State of readolnly (I get this second hand), that newspapers will stop when the host becomes inaccessible.

I'll take look at the local storage in the box tomorrow, it seems a little odd that a host can become this gradient with no impact on virtual machines (guess that's a good thing)

If anyone has any experience of a similar problem, I'd be happy to hear. I hope that Vmware support will have all cela sort very soon

Thank you.

The problem that you have already seen is that it is very difficult to solve this problem the only side ESX.  Since there is no newspaper that can be considered after the fact, because of the read-only problem, it is difficult for vmware support collect these logs and find lots of useful information from them.  I hope that is not the case, and you can see some events which lead to the final state the server entered.  It would be a good time to suggest the VIMA device, so that syslog has another server to record errors.  According to the sequence of entries, this may or may not have more information, but I have not met this scenario since I install my logging server to validate whether you would or wouldn't see alerts in this condition.

Good luck.  I hope you have some good data.

  • Impossible to access host 4.0 U2 of the VI client to the DC operation

    Hello

I have a single ESXi host 4.0U2. I have a virtual computer that acts as a domain controller. I can't see the host using the VI Client if the domain controller does not work, it says that the connection is refused, even though I can ping the host. I can't access the host viat its IP address in a browser too. This has happened since the upgrade of U2. Maybe the host should the domain controller, how can I remove that so I can access it with market no VM. This only occurs after a host reboot. I can stop the DC and not lose the connection, as long as the host is powered.

Try entering the host ESX information C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts and try

This should solve, if the problem exists because of the resolution of host name problem

    Hello

Since ubuntu 14.04 invited into a 64-bit windows 8.1 host, I'm trying to access windows network.

    The guest is satisfied.

In the host, I exposed a network share folder.

By clicking on this generates an error.

Failed to connect to windows shared folder also.

  • Cannot start the VMs on ESX 4.0 stand-alone host

    Hello

We have two standalone ESX 4.0 host. They have recently lost power, and since then, we are unable to do anything with virtual machines.

Security will not plug a laptop so I can't connect to a host using the vSphere Client.

    The command line, I ran:

    GetState \vm.vmx VMware-cmd < path_to_vm >

    VMware-cmd < path_to_vm > \vm.vmx start

Both times, I get this error:

vim.faul.HostConnectFault: unable to connect to localhost ({(vim.fault.No.Permission)

    dynamicType = < unset >;

    dynamicProperty = (vmodl. DynamicProperty) [].

MSG = authorized to perform this operation was denied.',

    faultMessage = (vmodl. LocalizableMessage) [].

    object = "vim. File: ha-folder-root',

    privilegeId = "System.View.

    })

It seems that 'root' has lost its permissions to start the virtual machines! Unfortunately, the engineer who built the servers is therefore more around and there is no documentation for them. Can anyone suggest what that might be?

    Thank you Andre,.

This is the user-error (shame on me).

Before discovering the fault, I checked the article kb 1031192 and permissions in the file permission (or authentication) were right. -(1).

It's been so long that I used ESX / Service Console that I forgot to do "su-" rather than "su root" from the non-privilegie account to the root account.

When 'esxcfg -' orders have also failed, I Googled it and found the answer on the Blog of Simon long.

(Google 'ESXCFG Command not Found' and found on simonlong.co.uk). This machine will not let me copy / paste so that I can not paste in the link!

Well - I had the problem solved after that. Thanks for the reply!

    Have a great weekend people.

  • Recent update knocked out 5.1 client to access hosts vSphere

    Hello

I have 2 hosts managed by vCenter in 5.1.  I had not applied the patches in a few months and decided to update via the Update Manager.

After you apply the patches on 1 host, I found that I could not connect directly from the vSphere client.  Thought it was a fluke, so I applied the patches to the 2nd host this morning and it's the same thing.  Good thing vCenter still works. These are production areas.

Patches/updates that I applied were the following:

    ESXi510-201401103-SG

    ESXi510-201401201-UG

    ESXi510-201401203-UG

    ESXi510-201401204-UG

    ESXi510-201401205-UG

    ESXi510-201401206-UG

    ESXi510-201401207-UG

    ESXi510-201401208-UG

    ESXi510-201401101-SG

    ESXi510-201401102-SG

    ESXi510-201401202-SG

    ESXi510-Update02

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to correct this problem or find patch which plunged the connectivity?

The error I get in return (what is now) is:

vSphere Client could not connect to "10.0.0.5.

A unknown connection error has occurred. (The client may not send a request to the server. (La connexion sous-jacente a été fermée: une erreur inattendue s'est produite sur un envoi.))

I studied it in the KB and not to apply the usual steps, they said - I can ping the hosts, both via vCenter access and connect with root.

It is even possible to regularize patches?

    -Ben

It's actually the part 'ESXi' of Ko you want to watch. The other parts are associated with vCenter Server. According to this KB and several articles of MS, there is no patch for the edition of XP 32 - bit, so change the ESXi host is perhaps the only option.

  • ESX 5 How to access disk space on newly created VM

    Hi all

I'm new to VMWare and trying to learn so please bear with me.

I'm under ESX 5 on a USB N36L Microserver HP.

Before installing ESX, I used the microserver as a Windows 2008 R2 server. I've used DISK2VHD for converting my physical machines C: drive virtual hard drive and then used the client VCenter Converter to convert the virtual hard disk to a virtual machine VMWare.

I started the ESX virtual machine and everything works OK. However, I now attach the D: drive of the physical machine on the virtual machine. How can I do this? I tried running DISK2VHD, but the disc is of 2 TB D2V fails as the disc is too big.

The HARD drive containing the D: NTFS volume is always inside the microserver, can I simply access it through the virtual machine without conversion?

The HARD drive with the volume D: is not part of my data store, if I try to add vSphere tells me that I will lose all data. I did not backup, but I hope that there is an easy solution for this?

    Thank you very much

    Robbie

I managed to access the drive I wanted through RDM following this post

  • ESXi with Client can Cause problems to access hosts

    Hello

In my book of Lowe he says that if an ESXi host is managed by vCenter Server using vSphere Client to directly access this host that could "cause negative effects for vCenter Server.

So once we add hosts to vCenter server we ever for the hosts by using the access client and instead of all the management through the server?

    Thanks in advance

to develop this what say DCSpooner ... If you make changes to the guests or hosts when you are connected directly to a host that is managed by vCenter may cause inconsistencies in your DB vCenter and, therefore, the inventory.

Thus, as indicated, use vCenter to do all your administration of guests and hosts.

Hi, im setting up a laboratory at home to help prepare for the VCP certification and have encountered a problem. I tried to solve this problem all day and made extesive googleing nothing helps.

    Current virtual machines:

    6 x ESX 4 Update 1 (host name = 8VESXC1N1 - 3 and 8VESXC2N1 - 3)

    1 x Server 2008, Datacenter Edition (Hostname = Cedar)

    1 x Openfiler 2.3 (Hostname = Oak)

    1 x UDA 2.0 (Hostname = pine)

My vSwitch configuration looks like this:

Currently I have each of the ESX VM with a NETWORK card installed in the Port Console of Service Group. They are directed to 192.168.10.51 - 192.168.10.53 to what will be the cluster 1 and 192.168.10.61 - 192.168.10.63 for cluster 2 (all with 24 bit masks). Yet for some reason I can't connect to or ping them from either a laptop computer sitting across the physical interface (with IP in the same range) or "Cedar" VM.

If it has no effect then my controller of domain and DNS is through 192.168.10.40 (the virtual machine of Cedar)

IM using the E1000 type vmnic and my physical interface is an Intel PRO1000 GT, which is listed on the HCL.

    Out of order:

  • running in vCenter Server, ESX, how clean the vCenter host?

I hope that the topic of the thread makes sense somehow.

We have vCenter Server works like an ESX VM, for now on local storage, but eventually it can be moved to the SAN storage.

To clean up our ESX host, we use Update Manager.

How does the VUM to sanitise the host that is running the vCenter Server VM?

What should I do to have AUVS to clean up the host that runs the vCenter Server VM that is running VUM?

    Thank you, Tom

If everything works on local storage, you can simply make your updates via esxupdate on the command line.

  • Change when opening a new tab directs towards... Go to facemoods now and want to access host of Yahoo

Tried AFAIK to redirect to the new location of the opening tab

    See:

    • Open the topic: config page through the address bar and do a search for facemoods via the filter at the top of the about: config page.
    • Reset all the facemoods associated prefs which appear "BOLD" (user set) via the context menu to their default values.
  • Cannot add the ESX 6.0 host to vCenter Server 6.0

OK, I'm testing laboratory a vsan 6.0 cluster.

I have my running 6.0.0 esx hosts and vcenter server is 6.0.0 also.

I have the services platform on a virtual machine and vcenter on another. I was able to create a data center, then a cluster below.

Then I went to try to add a host to my group and I get this error...

Failed to contact the specified host (hostname\IP). The host may not be available on the network, may have a network configuration problem, or that the management on this host services may not respond.

Per this KB: KB VMware: Add a host VMware ESXi/ESX from VMware vCenter Server fails

I confirmed that my vcenter server and platform services server can see all esx hosts. From the vcenter server, it can ping the host esx and PuTTY can access all of them. I even installed the client and it can connect to all esx hosts. I used the netbios name, IP and FULL domain name and they all work.

I have only a single subnet, so this isn't a problem. DNS resolution works in all areas of both sides, vcenter esx hosts and host esx to vcenter.

    I am quite puzzled.

OK, after working with VMware on this issue, I think that I thought about it.

All my hosts are DL360 G6 servers.

My hosts are run the same build «VMware-ESXi-6.0.0-2494585-HP-600.9.2.38-Mar2015.iso» ESX Downloaded from HP.

All buildings are in trial mode.

After placing a call to VMware, they had me build some ESX VM, the services of the platform and the vcenter VM on an ESX host. We suspended because it took all day to go upward.

Once I woke up all the parts (sql server, esx vm, server platform & vcenter) in virtualization nested, I created my data center, then Cluster then added the ESX host.

The hosts added properly, no error. Then I remembered when I installed ESX inside a virtual machine, I am angry that the iso, I had the habit of HP does not work in my VM nested due to virtualized hardware.

Then a fire came into my head. We will rebuild all of the physical cluster but NOT use the CV provided the iso file but use VMware provided iso file "VMware-VMvisor-Installer - 6.0.0 - 2159203.x86_64.iso".

I did it today. I have rebuilt all hosts with the provided iso file VMware ESX...

Spun SQL Server vCenter, service platform, all VM VM VM you need. My AD & DNS VM are on another server, so he has been upwards all the time.

Connected to the web interface (yuck!).

    Created my data center...

    Created my Cluster...

    Add all my Cluster hosts.

    All of this worked!

Therefore, if you encounter the same problem, I'm plan to generate your with the provided iso file VMware ESX hosts and try it. In my case, the provided HP iso file didn't work properly for me.

I also downloaded the iso file of HP 2 other times to make sure and do a validation test and it did the same thing.

  • Vpn client access to the DMZ host

I'm having a problem where my customers who establish a VPN with Pix 515 cannot access hosts on the DMZ. VPN clients can access hosts inside network without any problems. I discovered that when I make a route to trace from a client computer that has established a VPN connection to a host on the DMZ, he tries to go through the default gateway of computers instead of the client from cisco. Any ideas?

    More information:

When a client connects with the PIX over the VPN, it is given the internal DNS servers and the DNS Server internal, we have a host entry that says "www.whatever.com" 2.2.2.2 (this is the DMZ host). Customers within the network can access this host with problems, it's just the customers who establish a VPN connection. But the VPN Clients can access "www.whatever.com" using the public ip address. The problem is that if remove us the entry from the host on the DNS server so that the name of "www.whatever.com" decides the public ip address customers inside will not be able to access the DMZ host. The names and IP numbers are not real just using those as an example.

Any help would be apperciated. Thank you

You'll currently have something like this in your config file:

    sheep allowed ip access-list

    NAT (inside) 0 access-list sheep

This tells the PIX not to NAT any traffic from inside interface, which is to go to a VPN client. You need the same thing but for the DMZ interface, then add the following:

    sheep allowed ip access-list

    NAT 0 access-list sheep (dmz)

    Who should you get.
