Re: hard drive (reallocated sectors count & number of reallocation events)

July 13, 2010

According to Acronis Drive Monitor 1.0 (build 187), the hard drive on my Toshiba Satellite L300 bought 27 September 2009 has the following parameters of S.M.A.R.T:

Name / gross value of attribute / value / threshold / status
(1) reallocated sectors / 6 / 100 / 50 / reviews
(2) number of events of reallocation / 6 / 100 / 0 / WARNING

In addition:
(3) the computer displays the Blue error screen the "Blue Screen of Death" (BSOD), twice this week, on which it restarts immediately.

I'd be worried of failure and impending hard disk crash? What can I do to solve 3 problems above?
Acronis Drive Monitor can help predict when a hard drive is about to fail, giving you the opportunity to back up your data before the disaster.

Hello

> I'd be worried of failure and impending hard disk crash?

I advise you to backup all important data if you do before there accident

> the hard drive on my Toshiba "Satellite L300" bought September 27, 2009

You have the guarantee of 3 years for a hard drive, so they must replace it.

> What can I do to solve 3 problems above?

Try a program called HDD Regenerator 1.61 (you can find the most recent version). It is very good program to repair bad sectors. A few weeks ago, there was the user that could solve many of bad sectors on the hard drive using it. However, as written above, you should always be ready for hard disk crash

  • Satellite 5200 701 SSD instead of HARD drive

I have a 5200-701 and the HARD drive has a large number of bad sectors. So I would use a SSD instead of the HARD disk on a regular basis. Anyone know who is real and compatible? I also tried to install Vista but after start of the cd, the installation of vista tells me lack driver CD/DVD. I have a TEAC DW -? and vista seems to have problems with loading the atapi driver right?

Do you mean that you want to use the Solid State Drive?

HM, I think you're the first person here who would like to use this drive in this old notebook.
To be honest I don't very well if you can use and if the BIOS support for m.
But this is only a suggestion.

In addition you must known that Vista can not be installed on each laptop. Vista needs a lot of resources and it s really counterproductive using Vista on this laptop because everything runs slower than using the other OS like Win XP for example.

Finally and above all the Vista already contains the CD/DVD driver. It of a Microsoft driver and it s is not necessary and not possible to install a special driver ODD.
It has the same like to use Win XP. You n t need any driver CD/DVD. The operating system should automatically recognise!

  • Satellite A200 - how to replace the HARD drive?

Hey, I recently some strange problems with my laptop. I installed a new copy of Windows Vista and also tried with Windows 7 a few times. But eveytime I get problems. The installation of the operating system right. But after I installed some Windows updates my computer becomes very slow and at some point, I am unable to install any application, because it crashes just when installing... This happends with all the big software products such as Visual Studio, 3d Max, After Effects... etc.

So I think that my HARD drive has a large number of bad sectors. I also tried to erase everything on my drive with KillDisk, but it hangs at 16%. Once again something that seems to be my HARD drive.

But before you buy a new, I'd like to hear your opinions on my problem and I would also like to know how I have to replace my HDD on a Toshiba Satellite a200. I don't know where it is placed and what parts I need to unscrew.

    Thanks for any help.

    Hello!

The HARD drive is placed on the underside of the laptop.

The HARD drive on the underside Bay is fixed by two screws. Remove the screws and the HARD drive. Then you can swap the HARD drive.
But unplug the AC adapter and remove the battery before doing this.

The new HARD disk must have the SATA interface.

  • Can not recover the Windows 7 desktop after replacing the hard drive

I bought a new HP Pavillion Elite (HPE-240f) in August 2010. A week ago my hard drive has no SMART short self-test during systematic hardware diagnostics. I installed a new hard drive of the same size - 1 TB and could never make it work properly. I tried the following (in that order).

    1. using a system repair disc, I got the system from a previous image (which I did shortly after the purchase, install my own software and configuration of all). It worked, but then I noticed that Windows Update was not working. I ran various Microsoft diagnostic tools and discovered that some (unspecified) system files have been damaged or missing. All the fixes I tried didn't work. I ran hardware diagnostics extended, but no problem not found.

    2. I tried to restore the system to the default settings by using the original image on the D partition. At first it seemed to work, but at the last moment when the system started, I saw a message on the screen that Setup is starting services and then got a warning saying that services failed because of (unspecified) problems with hardware.

    3. I tried to restore the system from the system recovery discs and a message "system recovery disks do not support this computer."

    4. I found this Cyberlink utility on the HP website, dealing with precisely this issue. I created a CD tried and it didn't work.

    5. I found this document on the HP Web site, saying that if you are replacing a hard drive with sectors of 512 bytes with a new advanced Format (AF) drive (with areas of 4 096 bytes) and your system was manufactured before October 2010 (as mine was), you must get the new HP recovery disks. I thought I finally found the root of my problems (since the new drive is indeed AF and the old man is not) and ordered HP recovery discs.

    6. the disks arrived today, and I noticed that the version number of the software (for Windows 7 version) is almost the same as on the computer, except that the last digit is 9 on disks and 6 on the computer - I guess it's an update to deal with the problem hard drive AF. However, I get 'system recovery disks do not support this computer' error, if I use the utility from CyberLink recovery disks or not. To be on the safe side, I even used a new hard disc (new 1 TB) right out of the box (never partioned and installed previously) and connected the original keyboard supplied with the computer (I also unplugged everything except the monitor, keyboard and mouse). However, I get the same message. Just out of curiosity I tried to put back the original hard drive (certainly not in best shape, even if the system always starts with him) and still could not recover the system.

    What else can I try?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

An alternative to try. > If you can read the Microsoft Windows 7 of 25-character license key attached to the Tower, you can download a Windows 7 ISO file to burn to a DVD. The version must match that on the sticker COST Microsoft. for example Home Premium

  • Satellite A100: UNMOUNTED_BOOT_VOLUME HARD drive problem

My A100 (XP media edition) does not start at the top is normal, safe mode (all types), the last known config as the recovery disk does not work. Error message is unmounted_boot_volume.

    Is there a solution?
is that what the recoverable data?
If the new HARD drive is purchased the recovery disk allows you to reinstall the OS?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Robbo88

As far as I know this error message appears if the HARD drive boot sector is damaged.
Usually, the new installation of the operating system should help to get rid of this problem.

If you cannot boot from the recovery CD, I would recommend the original Microsoft windows XP CD boot and start the repair console. Here, you can use the fixmbr command to repair the boot sector.

Of course, this problem can be caused by a HARD disk failure.
In this case, the HARD drive must be replaced.

  • HARD drive does not work on a broadcast 2450-201

    I have a satellite S2450-201 which I can't start.

Whenever I tried to start it, it returns an error message relating to a LAN cable disconnected. As it is not on a LAN I removed the LAN in the BIOS boot priorities, and then it would only boot from the recovery disc. On the running recovery disk, it returns the size of the HARD drive (34 GB), then 'number of invalid partition' flashes then through another screen before finally returning the message

    !!!!!!!!! ERROR!
    Extraction failed...

I believe this means that the system cannot communicate with / find the HARD drive, even if it identifies the size of the HARD drive.

If the HARD drive is dead, is there a quick diagnosis that I have done or there at - it another fix fast/good market? If not is there something else I can do with the laptop away to see to what extent I can frisbee by the window?

    Hello

There are two possibilities; the HARD drive is dead and you need a new or HARD drive is ok and it of only necessary to format the HARD drive again!

In my opinion, the HARD drive works because the size of the HARD disk has been reported correctly. But the partition on the HARD drive could be the problem.
So delete all partitions, format the HARD drive and try to reinstall the OS from the CD recovery again!

good luck and please post back your results!

  • Equium A300D - maybe my HARD drive is dead

I bought my Equium A300D (I think it's the correct model anyway) of PC World in the year September last after the death of my old laptop on me (fried hard drive because of the processor cooling fan break).

The old laptop, has produced some sounds strange whirring/screeching sometimes for a few months, but I'd rather foolishly ignored it thinking it was just a fan who wasn't quite to the right or something - in hindsight to make a good decision!

My Equium was fine until I turned on this morning and found that he formulated the horrible familiar screeching/whirring sound and I turned off again pretty quickly.

The screeching kicked almost immediately after, I had it working. Three times I tried to turn on the back, with the same result, and it's understandable, I am very worried about it and did not want to take the risk of leaving that he turned on for fear of causing more damage.

Sick computers are never good news in the best of cases, but not at the moment that I went through a lengthy form filling and complex that I have loan on Wednesday. I'm completely it on a pdf version recordable of the form that took me three weeks to finish where I had got up to last night, and even if I use an online backup service, I can not restore files to a different computer without overwriting what is already there, so I'm a little panic. (Also, my Equium has a Vista OS, and my office, I'm currently is still on XP).

    Three questions:
    (1) makes a whirring/squeal noise as soon as it is lighted sound it could be another hard drive dying?
    (2) would be to take it to my local independent computer store (which tend to be able to make minor repairs and put new disks while you wait) rather than PC World voiding the warranty?

I'm not sure what to do for the best, like whatever I do I need to do it quickly, because I have not long until I have to complete this form (and even if I have the online backup, rather stupidly I don't have an external backup of it), and even if I can get the fixed satellite quickly if it's the hard drive , it takes a number of days to download and restore online backup files, which is sometimes I have at the moment.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    > 1) makes a whirring/squeal noise as soon as it is lighted sound it could be another dead hard drive?
It's not impossible My HDD makes a completely dead before it too strange noise.
It was a good idea that you have backup your data. In this case you could always recover the data if the HARD drive would really die.

(> 2) take to my local independent computer store (which tend to be able to make minor repairs and put new disks while you wait) rather than PC World would invalidate the warranty?
If you want to get the HARD drive replaced and want to use the warranty, then you should contact the ASP (certified partner) in your country.

  • Replacing hard drive with a smaller

    I'm fixing a friends G62 (G62-B27SA to be exact).

It keeps failing hard drive tests so I'll replace the drive and restore the system with the recovery CD

The current drive is a 500 GB WD Scorpio Blue.

My question is - the recovery refuses to fill out if I replace the drive with:

    a / a 320GB Scorpio blue

    b / a 500 GB Toshiba.

I'm not sure how limited the system of specific components.

    Hello:

You can almost count on the fact that the recovery discs do not work on a hard drive smaller than that which was originally installed.

I do not think that the brand of hard drive will also count as long as the size is not less than the original one.

If you can still read all 25 characters of the product key of W7 on the Microsoft sticker on the bottom of the PC, and the recovery disks do not work, simply do your own installation of W7 media and allows to install W7 on any hard drive size/brand you want.

    Here's how...

If you can read the Microsoft windows 7 25-character product key, you can download simple Windows 7 ISO files to burn on a DVD for the version of windows that is installed on your PC, and which is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC case.

Burn the ISO with the option to burn the ISO on your DVD burning program and burn it at the slowest possible speed that will allow your program. This will create a bootable DVD.

Or use the installation of Windows 7 USB/DVD tool to compile the ISO file that you download from Digital River. Link and instructions below. You need a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB compilation method.

    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/HTML/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool

Use 25 characters on the PC product key to activate the installation.

The key will activate a 32 or 64 bit installation.

Then go to the support of the PC and driver page to install the drivers you need.

Link to downloads ISO of W7 is below.

  • Pavilion dm4, replacing hard drive

    So, I have a HP Pavilion dm4 1165 c: windows 7 64 bit, around a Yes and a half old.

A week before, the hard drive suffered a kind of permanent fatal event and quietly left this death spiral.  If you want to know: any type of shoe was impossible.  System recovery could not even see the drive, an external drive could not speak of it, and it crashed to any machine that has tried.  I had to send it to data recovery - they tell me that the reader has hard errors and at least one of the drive heads does not.  They will be able to pick up stuff for me, but the reader is a loss (yes I know, I know - I should have backed up).

So in my opinion it - I have two problems to solve.  1. I need a new hard drive.  2 - I need stuff to put on my hard drive (it came with nothing - I don't have the disc for the operating system, drivers, nothing).  That offer HP which determination of these problems?  How much are these options?  Who should I talk to?  (I tried to call tech support, but there was a bit of a language barrier.  Also, I'm out of warranty, and they want $60 to solve problems before they'll still talk about replacement of hardware and/or software).

    Hello:

You can order a 500 GB hard drive 7 200 to replace your existing one.  You can't go smaller if you want to use recovery disks.

I love this place to order PC hardware.

    http://www.Newegg.com/product/ProductList.aspx?submit=Ene&N=100007605%20600030594&IsNodeId=1&BOP=and&order=rating&PageSize=20

I'd go with the first listed, but it is up to you. Look at the reviews and the price and choose the one that suits you best.

You can order HP recovery discs. You will need to call them as the link to the website to order them is broken.  Cost should be less than $20.00

You will need the complete model number of your PC. I do not see a dm4 - 1165dm.  I see a dm4 - 1165dx, and you will need to provide the serial number.

If HP has a set of recovery disc for your PC, you can use this workaround to install W7 on your new HARD drive.

Use 25 characters on the PC product key to activate the installation.

The key will activate a 32 or 64 bit installation.

Then go to the support of the PC and driver page to install the drivers you need.

Link to downloads ISO of W7 is below.
