No you can't. Given that it's a Dell and it came with Windows XP pre-installed, it's an OEM of Windows version.  The biggest drawback of an OEM version (at least in the USA) is that its license it permanently binds to the computer first it is installed on. He can never legally be moved to another computer, sold, or given to outside (except with the original computer). If the computer dies or is stolen, your license dies with him.

And let me ask you as if you checked to make sure everything on the Dell is compatible with Windows 7, and there are Windows 7 drivers for all your hardware that requires it.

    What's wrong?!? Someone please help.

    Thank you!

I remember that when I tried to install the driver, there's a message that says that it is said that it is not supported.  I don't know if I reinstalled the older operating system and then the new driver and vista or if there was a button to install the driver, even though it was not taken in charge.  Most likely, I installed the driver on the old XP operating system and then applied the upgrade to Vista. I always run a clean install to clean any spyware etc. The driver supports the X 9 live is what it takes. Use Vista driver is already installed.  I plan to upgrade to windows 7 in January and display the results.

  • Is it possible to install Windows 7 on a Dell Dimension 5150?

My computer is several years old and came with Windows XP. Is it possible to install Windows 7? What happens to all my files, etc, if I did?

    Thank you.

You will need to run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor. It will inform you whether or not you can run Windows 7.

In regards to your personal files, they must be saved on a device external or other removable media. This is because you can not 'upgrade' itself from Xp to Windows 7. It requires a clean install which means that all data on the hard disk is deleted during the installation of 7...

  • I have installed Window XP Pro, replacement of window XP he. My pc now does not connect to the internet, the modem still works as I can connect via my laptop. How can I fix it

My pc is a Dell dimension 3100.  I think the modem is Thomson Speedtouch 585

You need to install the drivers for your hardware (the interface between the hardware and the operating system - Windows - drivers).  Although Windows XP has some built-in drivers, there no drivers for all the hardware and the drivers, there may be only provide partial functionality for some hardware.

First, determine your number of Dell's Service: https://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/en/identifyyoursystem?c=us&l=en&s=gen& ~ = popup mode

    Then, go here: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriversHome/NeedProductSelection
Enter your Service tag, click on submit.  Select your operating system (Windows XP), and then click on "find drivers and downloads.

You should end up on a page that needs to be semi-customized for your particular computer (it will be something like this: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19)

Read this: installing drivers in the correct order.

Download and install the drivers.  At the very least, you should probably get:
    Chipset
    Audio
    Video
    Network (Ethernet)
(Wireless network, as appropriate to your system)

  • Cannot install Windows 10 on iMac

    Hey there,

I have an iMac (27-inch, late 2013) running El Capitan 10.11.4 and have recently tried to install Windows 10. I have 8 windows running, but it crashed and I thought I would upgrade just to 10 for the sake of ease.

So far, I made all the necessary steps. I run boot camp and the partition of the drive and tried to install it on both the USB that came with 10 windows and creating installation media downloaded from the Windows on a USB 2.0 website. When I get to the screen to select which partition to install on it comes up with an error message saying that it cannot be installed because the disk is a GPT (photos below) format, even after clicking on format. I also tried partitioning using disk without success.

Someone knows how to fix this?

I saw on the previous discussions to make a few Terminal commands for the following and hope these helps:

  • Satellite L305D - Touchpad does not work after installing Windows 7

I had recently installed Windows7 32 Bit there is almost a week on my Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5934, and now the tablet to the PC no longer works.

I was reduced to using an optical mouse on my computer. I've updated all my drivers and firmware etc on the windows update software and still I have not been unable to get the touchpad working. Windows 7 had installed the driver of synaptic for the touchpad pointing stick, but im guessing that he needs a special Tosiba firmware to recognize the touchpad for this model. What should I do to get the touchpad working again?

Here are the specs of my model:

    PC x 86 ACPI
    64-bit AMD Turion X 2 processor
    ATI Radeon 3100 graphics card
    Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad

I installed Windows 7 on my Satellite Pro P300 and touchpad works properly. The OS is naked and I didn't install any additional touchpad driver.

  • Can I install Windows XP from an ISO pirate legally if I have another computer with a product key?

Hello. I have a moment Dell Optiplex SX280 provided with Windows XP Professional (and product key) does not. I also have a broken (probably irreparably) Dell dimension 8400 supplied with Windows XP Edition family (with a key). Because I have these keys, it would be legal to install Windows XP (a pirated version) on my laptop Compaq Presario CQ42 that at first run Windows 7? I would appreciate a response.

    Thank you.

(Attention that I am not a supporter of piracy)

    The answer is no.

  • Newly installed Windows XP Home Edition SP1a Version 2002 works not properly.

I have a Dell Dimension 4300 S and I recently installed Windows XP Home Edition SP1a Version 2002 from the disc I have. When I try to download the SP2 and SP3 from Microsoft I get this box that says "extraction error." I can't download anything and sometimes, when I'm on the internet on this computer, it says "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close" and I send error report and, sometimes gives me the blue screen and starts dumping memory. Also, it wont let me on the Windows Update page and the computer won't auto updates.

Does anyone know what is the problem? I reinstalled Windows XP Home Edition SP1a Version 2002 two or three times now and linked the repair disk, and I always get the same problems.
Let me know if I have to give any specs or whatever it is.

Love the help I'm getting here. :)

After having reinstalled Windows XP Home Edition SP1a have you installed the necessary drivers? This includes drivers for the motherboard (chipset), audio, video, LAN (network adapter), and so on.  If this is not the case, check the page linked below:

    Drivers & downloads for Dimension 4300 S
     http://support.Dell.com/support/downloads/DriversList.aspx?c=US&CS=19&l=en&s=DHS&ServiceTag=&SystemID=DIM_PNT_P4_4300S&OS=WW1&OSL=en&CATID=&impid=

If you are not quite familiar with the Setup pages both driver below should help:

Since SP1a was part of the reinstallation, you will only need to install SP3. The page below the States 'in order to install SP3, you must first have Windows XP Service Pack 1a (SP1a) or Service Pack 2 (SP2) "installed.".

IMO, it's better to download SP3 for:

     http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&ID=24

I know that the above download is 316 MB and will take time to download, but from my experience, I had much better luck with that route. In addition, you can then save SP3 on a CD if you need to reinstall again.

  • Dimension 3100 hard and graphical upgrade

I have a Dimension 3100 desktop running a Pentium 4 with 2 GB of memory. The bios says its Version A03 who is running and the Dell system is a DV051.  I want rum 7.0 Win, but the size of the hard drive (which is 80 GB) must be increased and the graphics card needs upgrade to a Direct X 9 compatible.   I tried to upgrade to version A04, but I got an error indicating that Windows has prevented the file executable desktop upgrade form.

Question: What size a the current bios SATA drive will recognize? Suggestions?  Recommendations for a graphics card?  I have a PCIe X 1 and a PCL slot still not open.  The monitor is VGA, Viewsonic VA800 LCD entry.  I want to improve until MIcrosoft give up Win XP.  The budget is very tight, otherwise I would buy a new PC. Thoughts?

    tonydv

The Dimension e310/3100 can support SATA hard drives up to 2 TB in size.

Regarding the graphics card, PCI cards are usually low end.

The following PCI card has Direct 9 x.

    http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16814130477

The following map has Direct x 11 compatibility:

    http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16814139070

But, you may need to update the default 230w PSU on a 400w unit.

  • Problems installing Windows 7 on my Dell

    Hello

I'm having a hard time installing windows 7 on my computer. I have a Dell Dimension 3000, in which I currently upgraded the memory to 2 GB and installed a dvd/cd burner, Pioneer (DVR-A18M) to run Windows 7.  When I try to install the program, however, I get only a text "read me" who says "this disc contains a"UDF"file system and requires an operating system".
that supports the ISO-13346 "UDF" file system specification. "

I'm completely lost on how to solve the problem! Can anyone lead me in the right direction!

PS I have downloaded and run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, and it says that my computer is compatible with the exception of the Aero Support.

Crucial are thorough. The memory will be fully compatible.
If the Installer "sees" only 256 MB remove one of the memory sticks during installation.

After installation, the memory can be replaced. No further action will be necessary.

    6. run the upgrade to windows 7.

Error code 0 x 80070005 usually indicates that you don't have enough privileges or the operation is blocked. I know, some programs (Boot Camp on a Mac PC, etc.) is not compatible with Windows 7, if you have installed these programs on the computer, you may not be able to perform the upgrade.  You should uninstall these programs before upgrading. In addition, such a question may be related to UAC, I recommend you turn off UAC in Windows Vista, if you have installed security software, try uninstalling the security application as well.

  • Upgrade to a Dimension 3100

This made the point before, but not all the elements of my question.

I want to improve a dimension 3100 (given as a gift)

so far I bumbed the RAM upward from the supplied 512 to 2 GB, but I also want to add a graphics card - the MoBo has of 2 slots for PCI-x and PCI-E (x 1) slot.

the card I was recommended is a Geforce 6200 256 MB that fits into the card PCI-E x 1 slot, however I've also seen a Geforce 8400GS 512 MB which would fit in the PCi slot - however, like other similar cards, it requires an external to 400W power supply and the 3100 is came only with on board to the 230W PSU so I also need to upgrade my power supply of the appearance of things.

    http://UK.answers.Yahoo.com/question/index?QID=20100115193805AAhwY3h

After doing some research, it seems that the 3100 is one of these small valleys with a layout of wiring owner which means a standard PSU won't work - my question is where can I source a compatible power supply for my computer? or can anyone recommend a better graphics [PCI or PCI - E (x 1)] which requires no extra power.

    Thank you very much

    zougathefist

The Dimension 3100 does not use an exclusive power of Dell.

The 3100/E310 has an open back panel, you can install more generic stock ATX power supply standard, with a 24-pin or 20 + 4 pin connector card mother main, with or without the power switch power switch and two SATA power connectors.

You should be able to buy in a store of the local computer.

The instructions for the replacement of the power supply are HERE.

  • New HARD drive - how to install Windows?

    Hey guys,.

I have a problem with my Dell Dimension 9150. A friend of mine gave me as a gift, because I built his new computer. We put his HARD drive in his new computer.

The problem is: there is no CD of his computer.

I have the original Windows XP and Windows MCE and CD licenses. The Dimension has a MCE key so I would like to install MCE.

After installing a new HARD drive, I tried to install Windows. BIOS shows me the HARD drive. When I start the installation of Windows and choose "Windows Installer", I get to the screen where I can choose, what partition I would use. But installing Windows shows me no HARD drive!

Don't know if I need SATA drivers? If I should need it, where can I find them? And how to get them in the Windows installation? I know that I can load pressing F6, but I don't have a floppy device.

Would be great, if someone could help me.
