Re: Tecra A10 - 18 M - writes a key without pressing again and again

Hi all

I have the laptop Tecra A10 - 18M.
The OS is Ubuntu 10.04, but the problem also occurs with Windows XP.

I have problems with my keyboard. From time to time (once a day), a single character (r) written without pressing the key.

When I press "r" key nothing happen. When I write a digit (1-9) or around the 'r' key (e, f, t,...) he began writing of many 'r' again and again.
This stops by pressing the keys on the keyboard with the flat hand and a bit of strength.

I think that there is a broken cable?
Someone has a similar problem?

Thanks for your help

Hello

Sounds like a keyboard or keyboard cable malfunction...

But just to be sure: did you notice the same problems with external keyboard?

  • Tecra A10 is missing a few key press detection

    Hi all

I have a strange problem for a long time, which is annoying me.

My Tecra almost since I bought it have some problems especially to character keys keys detection '' and ~. However the problem never happens with the two keys at the same time.
My first assumption was that I was garbage under the key, I tried to clean it up and tried again; the problem persisted.

My second attempt was to restart the PC, and surprisingly, it worked. The conclusion is quite clear, is not a dirty keyboard, the problem is something else, but I have no idea how to solve.

Is there someone else with a similar problem? Does anyone have an idea to solve the problem?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

Have you tried an external USB keyboard?
I guess that if the buttons would work correctly using an external keyboard, the problem is related to the breakdown of internal keyboard
In this case, replace the internal keyboard.

    Welcome them

  • Is it possible to use the F5 key without pressing Fn on Thinkpad E530

    Hello

I need to use the F5 button a lot, but every time I have to press the aswell key Fn. would it possible to modify the key F5 parameters and how?

There are 2 ways to do this:

    1. in Start menu, type "Keyboard" and choose the keyboard option that appears under 'Control Panel'.  There is a "ThinkPad F1 - F12 keys" tab, and you can change the choice of "Legacy" to use the F1 - F12 keys as standard function keys you want.

    2. restart the system and press ENTER to the ThinkPad logo screen.  Then press F1 to access the BIOS Setup.  In the "Config" menu, choose "keyboard and mouse".  Change the option "Change to the F1 - F12 keys" to "Legacy".  Press F10 to save and exit.

    > I had a portable C850D-107 Satellite as a gift, but I discovered that there is no driver bluetooth inside.

No all laptops are equipped with a BT module or feature and the C850D-107 Satellite can't internal BT

You can use the special function key mode which allows you to use the function keys without pressing the FN key. This can be changed _in BIOS_ (F2->-> Advanced tab-> System Configuration-> special function mode key in BIOS)

    Dear forum
Left click Mouse touchpad is a little distorted. I had a peek inside the palmrest, and there is a white plastic stand thing that broke. It seems to happen this way with a large number of these particular models. Please do you know is there a repair or the thing below available to replace the broken white plastic and if necessary

    How much does it cost?
All the other tecra a10 users have the same problem with this model.

  • Tecra A10 - pad touch and the keys do not work on Windows 7 x 64

We have recently done a new install of Windows 7 x 64 on a Toshiba Tecra A10.
The operating system has taken over most of the drivers, we had to install drivers for the card reader ourselves.

Our problem is that the touchpad and the buttons work at all.
The driver displayed in devices such as manager being installed, but that's all. I even installed the control panel of the Alps (Vista x 64) which works very well.
Have tried the settings "stick and touchpad are automatically invalidated" when you use an external USB mouse, all to nothing done.

The equipment worked perfectly okay with Windows 7 32 bit installed.

    Is there a fix here?

    Hello

Maybe it of just a driver issue, I checked the downloads available for Tecra A10 on page of Toshiba and Windows 7 32 bit there is a newer driver available for Windows 7 64 bits do not (no driver). If you use the Vista 64 bit driver

What you can do is to test the driver for the touchpad for Tecra A11. There is a version more recent for Windows 7 64 bit of Alps Electric so correct. Touchpad driver is not linked so I sure it will also work on your model of m.

Take a look at the Web of Toshiba Tecra A11 driver site:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com > support & downloads > download drivers

However I also have access to a Tecra M10 entered without an operating system, although the sticker COST (product key) is the same for a windows Vista Business.

My question is: would my Windows Vista Business backup work A10 on the M10 (i.e. would it load hard disk M10 and then to work properly)

If someone can advise on this subject I would be grateful if you please

At first, I must say that Toshiba recovery image created separately for each laptop model and it is 100% created to work on the specific model. Why?
Each laptop model has different hardware platform and all the drivers, tools and utilities for some models are part of the recovery image. These recovery images are also tested.

Generally if the two models have the same hardware platform (hardware) it can be used.

  • Boot Linux on Tecra A10 SD

Hi, I have a fairly new Tecra A10 running Vista. I would use a SD card (SDHC, ideally) to boot Ubuntu/XUbuntu.

I can do the Linux work from a USB startup key, but can't seem to work on the SD card. the methods that I used for the USB (taken from the site PenLinux) do not seem to transfer.

At the start of the machine, I use F12 and try the option to boot disk/SD or USB port, or causes my boot SD card.

I guess I have to do something with the "SD Boot Utility" to force the card to look like a floppy disk. But I don't have the slightest idea how to do it.

    Any thoughts?

    ; Nigel.

I am wanting to do exactly the same thing with a nice shiny new Portege R500. I installed 'successfully' Ubuntu 8.10 on my 8 GB SDHC card (it has detected, partitioned correctly etc.). I put the bootstrapper on the map, I thought it would be able to see that, as partition bootable, but it did not work at all.

I considered if I have to install the bootloader on the physical hard disk, but do not know if it will help (i.e. put something in pointing to/dev/mmcsd hd0 (or whatever it was called).

Assistance (we two) would be greatly appreciated! I'm sure that it's possible it's I have to be. I also had same experience, that Linux would boot 100% AOK off a USB key, but it would just do nothing on the SD card.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Tecra A10 - 1LL - connection with the external monitor

    Hello

I have a problem with my laptop Tecra A10.

When I connect to an external monitor to the laptop I have to manually switch the screens because external shows nothing. When I disconnect the monitor I have to pass the screens manually with FN + F5 because the internal display shows nothing.

My old laptop (Tecra A9 (PTS52E-0E702NGR)) is the poster automatically whenever I connected or disconnected an external monitor.

Anyone has an idea why the A10 light automatically as the old notebook? Maybe it's the only spot in the preferences of the display driver that I don't see right now. :-)

    Hi SilverWizard,

What happens if you try to switch on the external monitor using the options of display driver, or that this combination of buttons don t work?

As wrote Al - eX you must update tools from Toshiba to get the keys FN working again. Everything can be downloaded here:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com > support & downloads > download drivers

    It's working now?

  • Re: Tecra A10 - 12O - how to buy the 64-bit version of Vista?

    Hello!

    I bought Tecra A10 - 12O with 4 GB of ram.
My Tecra shipped only with Windows Vista Business 32-bit so I can use only 3, 2 GB of memory.
I got to know that Microsoft allows me to use the 64 bit instead of 32 bit version - legally.
I have to buy 64 bit media much chipper as the new Vista box.

Here is the link to the Polish Microsoft page where I could order 64-bit media [http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/1045/ordermedia/pl-pl/default.mspx], of course, if this page would accept my product key.

Microsoft says I can get 64 bit Toshiba media.
I can't find Toshiba Web information pages on how to get the media. Polish Toshibas service says that it is not possible.

Does anyone know how to buy that media?

    concerning
    Tomek

    Hello

If you want to use the Vista 64 bit OS, then you will need to buy a full license Vista 64-bit.
The 32-bit Vista preinstalled on your laptop is only the OEM licenses and the serial key belongs to this operating system preinstalled.

    See you soon

    _ @ dvass66_
The FN keys need to installation of common Modules and Hotkey utilities for display devices.
Common modules must be installed first!
Also I recommend the update to the BIOS too

    _@korenisko_
    > I think that problem on this laptop is Wifi Atheros card
I put t know why you think this, but I put agree t
I have Atheros WLan card and since I use the latest BIOS and WLan driver everything works perfectly.
Vista turn too stable, but indeed it needs MS patches and update my Vista updates more than once a week...

  • Tecra A10 - keyboard and Touchpad don't work anymore time in Windows XP

    Hello

My TECRA A10 is a very strange problem since 1 month.
At the start, in windows XP, keyboard, touchpad or both frequently work. Only the 'Fn' keys are operationnals.
I can't use the other. 'CAPS LOCK', alpha keys, etc. are not active. Laptop is not usable.
I have to restart the laptop in a loop while alpha keybord is not usable. The drivers are updated.

    I think it's a problem with Windows.
When the laptop starts up, I can choose a support starting with the arrow keys and then see "CAPS LOCK" key is OK (led switch works).
Everything looks ok. After choice hard disk media and startup XP, keyboard is released.
    No BIOS problem.

I reinstalled Windows XP Pro SP3 with the Toshiba CD.
At first, I had no problem with the keyboard or the touchpad. I restarted the laptop and everything was beautiful.
I applied the update to Windows and keyboard/touchpad problems were back.

Perhaps, there is a driver of conflict with an update of Windows?

    Patrice

    > I applied the update to Windows and keyboard/touchpad problems were back.
If I understand your message, the touchpad and keyboard problems started after running the first MS Windows XP updates.
But after the Win XP installation (without the MS updates) everything has worked perfectly you have no problem with the laptop too using the operating system from the recovery Toshiba (Vista for example) disk.

    Is this good?

Hmm that's strange because the keyboard driver is part of the windows and there is no special keyboard drivers that could be updated.
But there is a touchpad on the European driver Toshiba page; Alps Electric.

Update the driver of the touchpad and also check if your BIOS is up to date. If the BIOS is not to day then updated it also.

    Check it out!

  • Keyboard with Tecra A10-112 problem

I got my laptop Tecra A10 - 112 today and the first thing I noticed is that the keys 'L', 'R' and 'Y' makes very annoying loud clicking sound whenever they are turned on.

There is no quick fix for this?

    > Toshiba has begun to moderate the Forum now and already denied my last post about the tightness of the A10 to publish screen
Do you hear this announcement? I think you're a bit confused
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums//message.jspa?MessageID=133178#133178

This user forum is free and you can post anything you want, but I think you should be objective.

    > The model number you have listed is not yet available in the United Kingdom as far as I know. I was a happy with Toshiba customer, until I bought A10 - 112.
Looks like you n t know that Toshiba offers different laptops in the different countries and each can series supports of different specification.
So maybe this A10-112 is not distributed in the United Kingdom, but in other countries. I don't know that other A10 with similar specs can be purchased in the United Kingdom.

Sorry I m not owner of the A10, but one of my friends bought this laptop and he asked me for the configuration.
So I know that it is a laptop really good for the market with new features

I respect your opinion, also because everyone can have different opinions, but don t forget to be objective
If there is a hardware problem with your keyboard, ask for replacement!
