Read several GPIB instruments

Hello

I have a question of time, when I want to read the GPIB instruments at the same time (1 to 24 instruments with 2 cards GPIB - GPIB0 and GPIB1).  The user can choose the number of instruments that it will read.

For 17 instruments chosen for example, is an array of 17 lines connected to a loop where playback GPIB is made (see TestVi and Loop.jpeg). It took about 5 seconds to get all the data.

But if I just copy 17 times playback (configured as a falling) Vi in a simple vi as in Untitled2.vi, tool around 1.5 sec to get all the data for the same conifguration! (See without for loop.jpeg)

How could I read as fast as in the 2 without title vi with a for loop or something else in order to allow users to set more or less instruments without copying playback Vi once the configuration has changed?

I tried to use call a VI dynamically , but it did not work.

Thank you for your help

Hello Anthony,.

You should be able to find examples in the Finder for example of NOR (help > OR Finder in LabVIEW example) by searching for the term "Asynchronous".

In 2013, there are a few examples located in the place shown in my sceenshot.

  • VISA READ timeout error - several GPIB resources

    Hello

I'm working on a network 3 GPIB instruments (Optical Attenuator, amplifier in fiber, spectrum analyser), controlled using VISA sessions in Labview. When it is run separately, the three corresponding screws (which are located in three different Labview projects) works as expected. However, when they ran at the same time, one gives them timeout-1073807339 VISA READ errors. These errors seem to occur when another instrument is sending / receiving data / instructions at the same time that she is.

The exact context of the error is either:

-an another VI is running, which includes sending several requests and responses every 100 ms, reading

-by failing VI starts, I get an error of waiting time among the first Subvi containing a VISA READ operation to perform (sometimes initialize.vi (in situation 1), sometimes one of the subVIs connected the rest State (State 0) on the time-out of the structure of the event).

    or:

    -the default VI is running,

-by starting another VI, which includes repeatedly sending requests and reading the responses, the failing VI up a mistake among the first Subvi containing a VISA READ operation to run (one of the subVIs linked the State of rest (0) on the time-out of the structure of the event).

    What I tried:

-gradually increasing the delay between the VISA WRITE and READ operations to the relevant instrument (from 10 ms to 10 s), without success. More surprising are my observations which, by operating this single VI, increasing WRITE it / READ delay results in the same timeout errors. I have found no mention of such behavior through research google and forum. I hope that this may point to a solution to the main issue,

-switching between synchronous and asynchronous VISA WRITE / READ operations.

-reorganization of the network GPIB to a star to a linear topology topology (three instruments have different GPIB addresses in case anyone is wondering).

    My thoughts:

It seems to me that the error is related to a delay introduced between a VISA request and its read operation by the transmission of another query associated another instrument in the same network GPIB. But I have no idea why pass a query to another instrument would introduce such a delay, or why this delay would result in a timeout error (and only an instrument, while writing / reading in each pilot screws are basically the same). Hopefully a more experienced Labview-er will be able to shed some light on my problem.

Included is the project that contains the default VI (main.vi) and the driver custom made use of.

There are a number of ways. If you want to keep separate projects for instruments, you can use semaphores often slandered around calls for screws in each project. Locking is not expected or predictable, but it would give controlled access to the GPIB resource.

MSE is all that you need to protect you from antimalware.  The definition files are updated approximately every 24 hours, and it does a great job to protect you.  NO anti-malware product you will protect against threats KNOWN of ALL.  And by running several products is probably not provide you more protection and will likely impact of the performance of your machine.  At the very least, several products require more administration and support.

  • Reading several files / locate the data source during execution

    Hi all

I have a requirement of the company in which I need to read files to different folders. This system is not hosting the ODI agent. There are two folders, the folder A and folder b. Two records may have any number of files. My intention is to read the files in a folder and write the data to a table in a database that resides in another system. This forms a flow for me. For the B folder, I have a similar flow. All files (in the folder A and folder B) have the same structure. The requirement is to read A book during the week and the B folder on the weekend. The system that has the database also runs the ODI agent.

    Here are my questions:

    1. How can I read several files one by one in a folder? Because the read files must be archived, they need to be written in a different folder, file C (for example). How do you archive part? Please note that this machine does not run ODI agent (network share could be an option, but we try to avoid it.

    2. can I have only an interface to read files in folder A and folder B? Everything else remains the same (the processing logic/transformations etc.). Indeed, is there a way to dynamically switch between two files (using a variable, perhaps).

I've not worked with files and so any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi Sankash,

Hopefully I can help you achieve this task.

    Please go through this link

Re: import files in a table

    1. you can update the status of the process of the files in a journal/temp table.
Based on the State of the (transformed) file in the table, you can check the files that has completed its process correctly.

machine does not run ODI agent:-J' have it is implemented the same type of scenario, in which I am downlading all the files in a common location and treat it from there.

    2. one of the solutions is that: -.

create two interface with the same structure, but the source table must point to the folder A and B
Create a variable (week/check) and based on the value, you can call the interfaces.

    second option: -.

If you're downlaoding the files in a common location, you can reach the spot through a single interface (down load files from folder A or B according to in week/weelend)

    3. If all the files have the same structure, you need only a data store and it should be a variable data store.

If something is not not clear please me ping / mail to my id (good that now I don't get enough time to go through the forum discussions)

Also if you need I can send you a diagram wokflow for this loop (read multiple files one by one in a folder)

    Kind regards

  • How to connect several GPIB-usb-hs instruments?

I want to know how can I connect several instruments and acquire their signals with a GPIB-usb. I m using 2 multimeters, 1 temp. controller and 1 power supply and I have all the drivers I need. I just need to gather all the drivers 1 prog. to control via GPIB. I have 1 gpib-usb-hs, but I need to read that data from those equips. Any help and advice are welcome.

    Thanks in advance.

No, what you're asking is done all the time. It must just be a little careful about the management of your written and reads as in most cases, you can connect to only one instrument at a time.

  • Blue screen (BSOD) and communicate with GPIB instruments

I have a communication problem with a Pressuregenerator of PCS400 of Mory via NI-VISA. My simple application sends requests to the instrument and reads returned responses. These actions are performed in a while loop until you press the stop button on the front. The VISA-resource is initialized before the while loop and closed after leaving the loop.
Now the problem is that the computer will work in a blue screen with the message "NMI: check / memory parity error parity." This blue screen can be caused by switching between the programwindow and another window (for example the file Explorer) - I know it sounds strange. Then the blue screen appears after about 20 seconds. The computer worked stable in the daily work with windows.

I have already tried several things
-Wait a while (up to 30 ms) after writing and reading of VISA-online blue screen
-Communicate with the Agilent 34401 multimeter with the same program (but other requests of course)-online no crash!
-Test memory on system for about 45 hours with memtest86 + -online no found error
-Stresstest with Prime95 (product 100% of CPU load) for about 1.5 hours on windows => no crash

    _PCS4\sREADING? \n
    _PCS4\sERR? \n
    _PCS4\sSTAT? \n
    _PCS4\sERR? \n

The system is configured as follows:
    -Windows XP Professional SP3
    -LabVIEW 8.5 FDS
    -NI-VISA, NI-VISA run-time V4.2 V4.2
    OR-488. 2 V2.52
    -Adapt PCI-GPIB with 3 x Mory PCS400 Pressuregenerator (1.3 to addresses), Agilent E3641A (address 5) and Agilent 34401 connected (6 addresses)

    -Some RS232 (PCI) expansion cards

Do you have any ideas of how this strange problem?

  • read several off file lvm 2D arrays

    Hello

for the acquisition of my data, I join three tables 1 d in a 2D array. I then record several of these paintings in a file of lvm 2D, until she is larger than 500 KB. Here, I got her 'write to measure' express VI. When I'm reading the data, I have a problem:

"the measure file read" express vi, seems to give only the first 2D table, which is located in the file! Each 2D table contains 75 values for each channel. I checked the content by drag / drop the file in Excel and Notepad. I see then all the tables, I saved in the file and not just the first. I tried to adjust the parameters in the "read the measurement file" VI as well, but nothing seems to help.

I have attached a sample file of lvm and my VI of reading.

It would be nice if someone could help it

    Simon

    Hello

I don't really know which way you want to read the data.

Do the different 2D picture belong together, which means that table 2 is just a continuation of the first?
If this is the case, you can select 'Segment Headers' > 'No headers' in VI 'Write to file measure. "

Then, select "File as read": read generic text file and adjust settings accordingly.

Use the function 'Now read file' to test the settings.

In addition, you may need to modify the indexes for the table to Index in your VI.

However, this method has the obvious drawback of losing the header information.

Alternatively, you can save the data in a PDM file, instead of a file of lvm. Here the headers are treated better.

Select 'Header only' in the writing to the file of the measurement. When your then read the data, it will automatically read all the data.
And you keep at least the first header information.

If each 2D table should be read separately, you must use a different approach. Please let me know, if this is the case and that I will explain later.

  • Error reading misaligned GPIB

Under Instrumeent i / o-> GPIB, are read are writing functions.  The error inside and out for these functions are not aligned.  Why is this?

Should I still use the GPIB functions?  Can I use the VISA fucnctions instead?  I like the features of GPIB, because I only need to enter a number of GPIB address to a string for the address, and I think that it is convenient.

Using GPIB functions has not recommended for quite a few years and certified instrument drivers need VISA. Using GPIB is, in my opinion, being short-sighted. They rope you up materials and you belay GPIB. With VISA, you can use other providers GPIB controller and you can easily use VISA with USB, Ethernet, RS-232, etc. with little or no code changes. The extent of comfort and control of resources VISA, you just select the correct resource from the drop - no need to try to remember addresses and you have support for aliases (i.e. "DMM"). I also have the VISA Resource Name Out makes for a neater wiring.

  • Cannot read the GPIB of Agilent 8757D

I am unable to read a 8757D Agilent. I can write commands to the device, but the answer has expired errors when starting to read or the device displays HPIB ERROR and crashes. I tried all known applications in LabView to try to establish the comms. The device does not recognize the * IDN? command sent to VISA during the execution of the measurement and Automation Explorer. Here, any help would be appreciated. PS IR not a programmer please KISS thanks for your answers.

First of all, MAX does not use VISA when you try to locate an instrument on the bus. It uses the functions of low-level GPIB. You can thus use it in MAX and send the order to the IO. That's what the instrument uses instead of * IDN?

Second, make sure that you send the correct end character. In MAX, add the command above with a \n. It is a line break and that's what the manual says that you should use.

I know it's possible to use LabVIEW with this instrument, because I wrote a pilot for him returns with LabVIEW 4. I don't have the code, however.

  • GPIB instrument control

    Hi all

I am new to this community of Labview and the use of this software.  I recently learned how to take the readings of an instrument of Keithley 2400 using their device drivers.  However, I am a bit lost when it comes to actually control the instrument.  Essentially, I want to be able to control the power supply so that it remains in a specified range, depending on the application.  I was wondering what is the process to do this... do I need to look at the manual of the device and use the Keithley commands to read and write?  I would be recognizing any input, regardless of the size.  Enjoy your time.  Thank you.

There are functions in the pilot of NOR who control the voltage of the source. Glance to set up the output. There are several examples to settle as well. Open the example finder and navigate to output material & > instrument Drivers > labVIEW Plug-and-Play. The Instrument Driver Network has links on what a driver is and how to use a.

  • error 201003 trying to read several analog inputs on 9172 chassis

I'm new to the Forum, so forgive me if this has already been answered.

Input module im using the chassis c - 9172 DAQ with an analogue of the 9221. I want to read three transducers in real-time. The problem I have is two if the transducers are 7.5 K lb/po2 rated and 100 psi rated, making me use two different scales. I can do the N-channel on playback of the system but only will allow me to read the two 7.5 K transducers.  I use the DAQ assistant, I create a virtual channel and add all components to read from the module. When I create another instance for the third transducer, it gives me the error: error 201003, module is already reserved. I need help please. Let me know another way to do what im trying to do. I used the DAQ assistant, but the data is incorrent on the transducer of 100 lb/po2, which explains why I manually create the virtual channel.

If you had searched the error code or message, you would have seen several posts on this common problem for beginners. Simply, you cannot use several tasks for a single material resource. Use several functions Create Channel, each connected to each other and specify your scale.

  • GPIB instrument legacy Microlink 4000 using GPIB-USB-HS

    Hi all

I face three recorders of older data, Microlink 4000, connected through GPIB and interfacing with my PC through GPIB-USB-HS.

There is no drivers for data loggers...

Their main in MAX addresses are displayed and I am able to send commands, but I'm not sure what to do now to begin to read the data recorded by each module.

I think that I am just not access to the secondary address of each module or using the wrong commands. I've scoured the web for the manuals and orders 488,1 but they do not work in the interactive control of VISA.

that is (Hex 0xBFFF0015) Read error occurs whenever I ask devices...

    Specification of the system:

    • power supply 3 x 4301
    • control units 3 x 4300
    • basic unit of time 1 x 4010
    • 34 x 4030 (12 Bit A - D converters)

I apologize if I have not attached enough information still very new to LabVIEW and MAX.

    Please advise!

    Thank you very much

  • Problem with 2 GPIB instruments

    Hello everyone,

I work in a program with LabView 2015 this control 2 instruments, the Rohde & Schwarz Smiq02b signal generator and Analyzer of spectrum n9010a Agilent EXA. I use the cable Agilent - 82357 B USB/GPIB to connect my laptop with these two instruments (PC-> EXA-> Doganovic). I also installed the two drivers of instruments from their official websites.

The program worked correctly until I had to format my computer and reinstall LabView but something wrong now.

The problem comes when I run the program, is unable to initialize the SMIQ02b, the program stops and opens a new window of block diagram. This block diagram belongs to a block driver the instruments within this scheme, there is a VISA write flashing block.

This only happens when I'm initializing two instruments in the same program, if I create a new VI and use the Doganovic only, I have no problem.

I don't know what is happening, it is very strange that it worked well before, and now this happens.

That's what I installed in my laptop:

    -2015 LabView
    -NI Device Drivers (included NI-VISA 14.0 and NOR-488. 2 14.0)

-Agilent IO libraries Suite (configured as secondary VISA) 17.1

-Passport OR VISA for tulip IT

I'll be very grateful if someone could help me with this.

    Thank you!

You set a breakpoint, it's what's causing the break.
