Records Windows Vista are all attribute read-only setting

I have a new PC with Vista Grand.  Whenever I create a folder it puts the file by default to read only

I can't find a way which stops

Hi swilleyeymo,

Thanks for posting on the Microsoft answers Forums.

Please, try the following steps to set the permissions on your files:

Set, view, change, or remove special permissions for files and folders

To set, view, change, or remove special permissions for files and folders:

1. click on Start, click Workstation, and then locate the file or the folder where you want to set special permissions.

2. right click on the file or folder, click Properties, and then click the Security tab.

3. click on Advancedand then use one of the following steps:

o to set special permissions for a group or user, click Addand then in the name box, type the name of the user or group, and then click OK.

o to view or change special permissions for an existing group or user, click the name of the user or group and then click change.

o to remove an existing group or user and the special permissions, click the name of the user or group and then click Remove. If the Remove button is unavailable, click to clear the entries inherit the parent permission that apply to child objects. Include these with entries explicitly defined here check box, click Remove, and then skip steps 4 and 5.

4. in the permissions area, click Select or clear the allow or deny appropriate box.

5. in the area apply to , click the folders or subfolders you want these permissions applied.

6. to configure security so that the subfolders and files do not inherit these permissions, clear the apply these permissions to objects or containers within this container only .

7. click OK twice and then click OK in the box Advanced security settings for folder_name , where folder_name is the name of the folder.

ATTENTION: you can click to select the entries permission to replace all child objects by the entries displayed here and that apply to child objects. Include these with entries explicitly defined here to check. Therefore, all subfolders and files have all their permission entries restore the same permissions as the parent object. If you do this, after clicking on apply or OK, you cannot undo this operation if you clear the check boxes.

Important: If you are not joined to a domain and want to view the Security tab:

1. click on Startand then click Control Panel.

2. click appearanceand themes, and then click Folder Options.

3. click on the tab display and then clear the checkbox use simple file sharing [recommended] the Advanced settings area.

The steps listed above comes from this article, you can return at any time for more information to this article.

  • Windows XP Home deselection of read-only on the FlexNet Adobe folder do not stick.

I have Adobe Creative Suite 3 and all programs except for InDesign. It comes up with an error message that says license has stopped working. Adobe lists several solutions, all that I tried with one exception that I couldn't because a step said to uncheck the read-only option for one of its folders named FlexNet. However, when I do this it deselects but it does not stick, if I look back at it now read-only is enabled. On a side note, in the same solution for XP Home it also says to disable Simple file sharing which is right impossible?

Yes, the Adobe instructions sound as if they are not familiar with Windows XP Home Edition. First of all, the read-only attribute is not applicable to records in any version of Windows - XP, Vista or Windows 7. That's why you see the behavior you are reporting. And as you point out, you cannot disable Simple file sharing in XP Home. In all cases, the Simple file sharing (which controls how a computer connects to other computers in the Local network) is likely to have something to do with InDesign does not.

I'm sorry that I'm unable to help you with this issue of Adobe, however. I guess you have uninstalled/reinstalled the program? If this isn't the case, you should try it. You may find an answer by posting in the InDesign user forum:

  • cannot deactivate an attribute read-only on a folder

    Hello

I have a folder with the read-only attribute marked with a blue square and tagged (applies only to files in the folder).

When I try to delete it, he's going right through to the subfolders and files, but ultimately the blue square is always there.

I am the owner of the folder and have full permission.

I also tried with the attrib command, but that has not changed anything.

    Thanks for any help.

    Stefano

    Hi stefca,

By default, the attributes: read-only (applies only to files and folders) will be there. Although the subfolders in the main folder would have access to read and write.

Also if you want to remove the permission to read the file, then you must change the permissions. Follow the steps for the same:

    i. right click on the folder

    II. Select Properties

    III. Select Security tab.

    IV. click on edit

    v. check the Deny option to read.

VI. click on apply, and then click OK

  • How can I change the attributes read-only or system files?

How can I change the attributes read-only or system files?

To view or to remove the read-only or system attributes, use the Attrib command at a command prompt:

    1. click the Start button, type cmd in the search box and press ENTER.

    2. to view the syntax for the Attrib command, Type attrib------? at the command prompt.

WARNING: If you remove the read-only or a file system attribute, it may seem like a regular folder and some customizations may be lost. For example, Windows customizes the Fonts folder and provides a special folder view that allows you to hide variations, such as bold and italics. It also allows you to change the display settings of the file in a way that is specific to fonts. If you remove the read-only attributes and the Fonts folder system, these custom display settings not available. For folders that you have customized by using the tab, customize the folder properties dialog box, the folder icon and other other customizations may be lost when you remove the read-only attribute.

If a program cannot save files to a folder with read-only, such as My Documents, change the read-only to the system attribute by using the Attrib command at a command prompt.

To remove the read-only attribute and to set the system attribute, use the following command:

    attrib - r + s drive:------------.

For example, to remove the read-only attribute and set the attribute to system for the C:\Test folder, use the following command: attrib - r + s c:\test

Be aware that some programs may not work correctly with folders for which the read-only attribute and the system attribute are granted. You can use the following command to remove these attributes:

    attrib - r-s c:\test

  • All records showing the attribute read-only - cannot be changed via a Properties dialog box OR the command "attrib" user profile AND is not corrupted

I use Win 7 64 and recently all my files have begun to show read-only. I use a wired Ethernet connection. I don't know how it happened as before I had used the computer as usual and the Internet worked very well. (1) disable my firewall and anti-virus who didn't work, I turned their back on immediately.

    2) press Ctrl-Shift-Enter keyboard shortcut to run a command as administrator prompt.  Allow the elevation.

Type route delete 0.0.0.0 press ENTER.

    Type ipconfig/flushdns press enter

    Restart your computer.

When I opened the tab customize or properties and go to the themes tab, I was unable to find the default theme of Windows Vista. So now I'm stuck with some ugly theme. Hello redfalcon67,

To resolve this problem, use the tool (SFC.exe) System File Checker to determine which file is causing the problem, then replace the file. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click principally made programs, Accessories, right-click guest, and then click run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click allow.
    2. Type the following command and press ENTER: sfc/scannow (Yes there is a space after sfc) the sfc/scannow command analyzes all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with appropriate Microsoft versions.

To determine which files can be repaired by the System File Checker tool, follow these steps:

    1. Open an elevated command prompt.
    2. Type the following command and press ENTER:
findstr/c: "[SR] cannot repair the military file" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log > sfcdetails.txt

Note The Sfcdetails.txt file contains details of every time that the System File Checker tool has been run on the computer. The file contains information about the files that are not repaired by the System File Checker tool. Check the date and time entries to determine the problem files that were found last time that you ran the System File Checker tool.

    3. Type the following command and press ENTER:
      Edit sfcdetails.txt

The Sfcdetails.txt file uses the following format:

      The date/time SFC detail

The following example of log file contains an entry for a file that could not be repaired:

2007-01-12 12:10:42, info CSI 00000008 [SR] cannot repair the military record [l:34 {17}] "Accessibility.dll" of accessibility, Version 6.0.6000.16386, pA = PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_MSIL = (8), VersionScope neutral, neutral culture, PublicKeyToken = {l:8 b:b03f5f7f11d50a3a}, type neutral, TypeName neutral, neutral public key in the store, file is missing "

If the System File Checker tool cannot repair a file, follow these steps:

    1. At a command prompt, type the following command and press ENTER:

      takeown /f Path_And_File_Name

For example, type takeown /f E:\windows\system32\jscript.dll.

    2. Type the following command and press ENTER to grant administrators full access to the file:
      ICACLS Path_And_File_Name/grant ADMINISTRATORS: F

For example, type icacls E:\windows\system32\jscript.dll/grant administrators: F.

    3. Type the following command to replace the file with a known good copy of the file:
      Copy Path_And_File_Name_Of_Source_File Path_And_File_Name_Of_Destination

For example, type copy E:\temp\jscript.dll E:\windows\system32\jscript.dll.
