Recovery of a virtual machine
I'm running 3 machines as servers 4 VMWare ESXi and vSphere management.
One of my SAFE and I was just able to get the recovered data.
Here's my problem. Virtual Machines are listed is no longer on the VMWare Server and I can't find a way to add machines. Is it possible to re - insert the machines in the system? I have mapped the new data store that has recovered files and you can see the files.
vSphere Client Version 4.1.0
vCenter Server Version 4.1.0
VMware ESXi, 504850 4.0.0

Welcome to the community - if the LUN presented to the ESX host, you should be able to use the browser of data store and readd the virtual machines to the inventory-

Recovery of the Virtual Machine groups
I am trying to convert the old Webservices SDK to Powershell script code. How to get the VirtualMachineGroups? Get-file restores extras.
Thank you
The differences that you see is not inherent in the versions VC that you run against.
In VC 2.5 a folder is a folder blue or yellow that you see at the VIC.
And a file can contain several other objects.
The "vm" folder is a hidden folder, you don't see it in the VIC, but it's there.
You can check this with the managed object browser (MOB).
Call it with
https://
/mob I have not any VC 2.0 to test, but your response, it seems that if you want objects of ComputeResource not records.
Is this correct?
BTW, tests for the VC version is quit easy. Use the property
(Get-View ServiceInstance).Content.About.Version
Then you could based on who get to test the filter correct childType in.
Something like this for example
$child = "VirtualMachine" if ((Get-View ServiceInstance).Content.About.Version -match "2.5){$child = "ComputeResource"} Get-View -ViewType Folder -Filter @{"ChildType" = $child}

Change of virtual machines managed by SRM for VR in an event of DR
Hello
I have a virtual machine that is being replicated using replication vSphere + I configured a recovery SRM for virtual machine plan is managed by SRM.
In a DR situation:
- To recover a virtual machine that is managed by VR everything I have to do is to connect to vCenter to your web site of DR via vSphere client, then click on recover.
- To recover a virtual machine that is managed by MRS. all you need is to get a full vsphere to your DR site that has the plugin SRM installed before you can retrieve customer.
My question:
Suffice it to say at an event of DR MRS on the DR site was dismantled (so I couldn't recover virtual machines managed by SRM) but I can connect to the Web from vSphere client and retrieve virtual machine managed by VR, is it possible to manually change the virtual machines managed by SRM, so they are managed by new RV?
See you soon
Hello
There are internal interface that allows you to do. Please contact VMware support team.
Go get the current "recovered by" value:
To reset the value "recovered by" RV:
Call the method after replacing ME with the GID... replication value and clear the value (empty string) for the recoveredBy property.
To retrieve the value, GID-... - look at the names of the replica files in target or check data warehouses the table GroupEntity in DB VRMS. To get prompt SQL embedded DB VRMS - use
/ opt/VMware/vpostgres/Current/bin/psql vrmsdb - U
and
\Q to quit smoking
Please note that the foregoing is not officially supported and may change with the different versions of the VR.

How do the automatic deletion script clone virtual machines
Hello
We use the VM data recovery to clone virtual machines. We would like to clone some VMs on weekly basis but we need a script (or automatically) to remove the existing cloned VM automatically. VDR not clones a virtual computer when there is already a clone of this virtual machine.
The easiest way is to use the Windows Task Scheduler.

Not configured VM prevents the recovery of the configured virtual machines?
I try to test a recovery plan. There is a problem with one of the virtual machines on the data store. It has a disc attached to a volume that is not replicated.
When I run the plan, it logs the error below for all of the active steps after "Suspend Non-critical VMs on recovery Site".
Error - virtual "name VM" machines that
are not protected by this protection group use warehouses "Volume name"
that are in this protection group.I understand that I can't protect this particular virtual machine. The question is if it will prevent the other virtual machines being restored or is something else going on?
If you have a data store in a protection group then * everything * VMs on this data store must be configured for protection, otherwise it will fail.
That is, if it is not protected SRM is not aware, cannot stop it and which will not be able to remove the data store, etc.

How to recover virtual machines after a planned recovery
Hello
I did successfully a planned resumption of a VM and it went well. I use replication of vSphere. Now I want to recover the virtual machine on the protected site, but I found that I can't use reprotect, since I do not use replication based on the Bay.
I tried to create a new plan of stimulus on the recovering site, but I get an error message saying that there is already a recovery plan for this virtual machine.
How can I return my virtual machine on the protected site? Should I first delete the recovery plan?
Thank you.
Try this
http://www.RTFM-ed.co.UK/2011/10/05/failover-with-SRM-and-vSphere-replication/
and then let me know if you have questions, this is a very good guide.
Thank you

Run Recovery Plan - turn off virtual machines to the protected Site?
Hello
Pretty silly question here... I read that when you run the Recovery Plan SRM will equip all virtual machines protected on the protected site. Is this the case?
Thank you
Dave
Exactly. In this case, workloads on the recovering site absolutely remains lit throughout the entire test or recovery.

VMware HA and recovery of virtual machines (not to restart them)?
Hello
I need help clarify something with VMware HA.
When I do manually our primary ESXI host, the VMs appear and restart on the secondary host.
Yes virtual machines are restarted automatically, but it does not resume the virtual machine without interruption as DRS and provides that vMotion.
Is there a way I can configure HA to not restart and resume the virtual machine in place without interruption? If not, what are my other options I can configure in VMware ESXi do exactly, if any?
Thank you very much
Jan
HA is used in the event of a host failure, so there is no chance to migrate a workload (curriculum vitae) to another host. What you are asking for can be achieved with FT (Fault Tolerance) where a secondary VM is created on a different host and basically synchronized with the primary virtual machine. In case of failure of the primary virtual machine VM school can resume (almost) without interruption.

Thank you for taking the time to read.
My brand new MacBook Pro came pre-installed with VMWARE Fusion intentionally, so I could run a Windows XP environment to migrate from the 10 years of content from Outlook to Entourage. Everything worked very well when one day, VMWARE said that I had to upgrade. I did and have not been able to run a Windows environment since. My Outlook and Windows configuration data is not available and I have 4 attempts to vmwarevm. When I try to load the original VM, I get an error/warning message: "this virtual machine is obsolete." It's the guest who has begun the process of upgrading to 2.0.5.
I need access to my first setup of Microsoft Office and Outlook. no indication on how to access my previous data would be great.
Thanks for any help at all!
Kind regards
Jeff
The error"The VMware Tools resume script did not run successfully in this virtual machine. "is the crux of the problem here...
I could try to delete the files from the virtual .vmss machine and see if you can connect.
Right-click on the Virtual Machine window computer virtual library > show in Finder
Make a right click the .vmwarevm bundle > Show Package Contents
In this window, trash all .vmss files, and then try and turn on the Virtual Machine.
Note that this is the same as pulling the plug on a physical pc stuck/frozen.
Let us know if this helps =)

Can I use the Windows Vista I had with my Toshiba laptop on virtual machine?
Hey all
I have changed Microsoft for Macintosh, but installed on a virtual machine (oracle vm virtual machine) my Windows Vista I got with my Toshiba Satellite A350D Notebook previous. I installed Vista with the recovery disk. Now he asks me the Windows Vista product key. The sticker on the back of my laptop is more readable. I run the Belarc Advisor to get the product key in this way. But right now, he said: "it's the product key installed at the factory by the manufacturer rather than yours. You can change this to your product key here for Windows http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=45668"
My question: am I not allowed to use windows vista legally, I had with my computer toshiba laptop on other devices? I won't use the Thoshiba laptop. Do I have to delete the record from the Thoshiba laptop? Where can I get a new product key?
Maybe someone can help me here. Thank you in advance for taking your time to read this.
Betty
Recovery disk or recovery image is designed for some cell phone only and is not a kind of universal image that can be used on other devices. It comes with the laptop.
You can use the Microsoft Windows disk with valid license on each device. Recovery image is not only BONES. This is the package that contains the drivers and tools specific to Toshiba and utilities.
As you also know recovery image when you install it on your laptop must be turned on not so the license code downstairs just proves you have purchased a valid license with your laptop.
> Should I remove the record of the Toshiba laptop?
Not why do this?
> Where can I get a new product key?
You cannot get it because you need when you use the recovery image on your Satellite A300D. I think even you will hear of Toshiba. -
Hello
My X200s new comes with preloaded Vista Business and 3 CD marked as "Rescue and recovery disk for Windows XP" and "Windows XP Professional SP2 product recovery disc 1 & 2", respectively. " I want to repartition the disk, remove Vista in the process, install linux Ubuntu 64-bit, and then install Windows XP in a virtual VMware or VirtualBox machine. The question is, are provided enough CD do a XP install in a virtual machine?
Thanks for the tips.
Jakub
No, you can not install XP on a virtual machine with the CD restore provided with your device. You will need a regular XP installation cd and a number of key valid. It has to do with the fact that the restore cd should see a BIOS generic virtual machine rather than the true BIOS Lenovo and refuse to install.

Virtual machine from Windows XP to Windows 7 Professional
Two years ago the virtual machine from Windows XP was installed on my laptop which has Windows 7 Professional. I use version XP for playing games is not compatible on Windows 7. Everything worked well until a few weeks ago. I was unable to open the games. An error message window is displayed when I click to start the game. "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG. NT. The file system not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application. "The top border of the window says error message"16 bit Windows subsystem. Any ideas.
After temporarily off any protection, I tried restore and recovery without success. Error message says that both failed.
Please keep in mind that I'm completely computer illiterate. Thank you.

How to download and use my Win 7 Pro prior in a Virtual Machine in VMWARE PLAYER?
before 3 years, I bought a win 7 pro PC - recently, I fee install 8.1... How to download and use my prior Win 7 Pro in a Virtual Machine in VMWARE PLAYER?
Unfortunately, you must have prepared a recovery disk in advance or use the one provided with your computer.
For 5 years, Microsoft made it fairly easy for users of the Windows 7 operating system to get reinstall media. If you have lost your support disc or installation retail collection; either it has been damaged or defective; You can download a copy of the edition that you have licensed from a membership site called Digital River. More recently, Microsoft ended the availability to reinstall media that you can download as a. File ISO in Digital River, which is a digital reproduction of an optical disc.
It was particularly convenient for people who could not easily get the manufacturer's recovery media, did not want to pay the fees required to get or preferred a clean configuration without the software packaged manufacturers or even a recovery partition does not work. It's easy to use, all you had to do was reinstall and reactivate using the product key located on the certificate of authenticity and download all the drivers on the manufacturers website.
Given that this option is no longer available, what are your options? See the article for more details:

Hello
I bought a refurbished machine that came with Win 7 Pro pre-installed. I erased the HARD drive. Completely. Nothing more.
I don't want Win 7 installed on the drive, but I need an ISO to install it in a virtual machine for research reasons.
I tried to download the ISO of http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-recovery, but when I gave the product key, I got a response that I should turn to the vendor of the computer and that is preloaded.
When I did and asked an ISO, they told me to download from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-recovery. This seems to be the only source for Windows ISOs left in the world.
So, I run long in circles... infinte loop... :-(
How can I solve this misery?
Thanks for the replies!

I bought a laptop. This purchase price includes an operating system (Windows 7 Home Premium) I want to use it on a virtual machine instead of on the physical machine. The host operating system is different.
It seems impossible to install this OS on virtual machine; I get errors with the activation key. Here are the things I've tried:
Create an image of the original hard drive (before it was started), then tried to start the
Downloaded the ISO of Windows 7 Home Premium digital river and tried to use the activation key on the bottom of the laptop
Iso boot and go into recovery mode on the original hard disk imageNone of them worked.
If I have to buy another copy of Windows, can I at least get credit for one, that I never use that I paid for?
You should be able to use it in a virtual machine, as long as you have another operating system (for example Linux) host.
d. use with Virtualization Technologies. Rather than use the software directly on the licensed computer, you can install and use the software within the single virtual (or emulated) system on the licensed computer. When used in a virtualized environment, content protected by digital rights management technology, BitLocker or any hard drive full-volume encryption technology is perhaps not as secure as protected content not in a virtualized environment. You must comply with all national and international laws that apply to such protected content.
Here's what you do, use the Windows 7 Home Premium you downloaded from digital river.
Boot from the Windows 7 DVD
Click Install now
Accept the license agreement
When the option is displayed to select a type of installation, click (Custom advanced)
Click on drive Options
Select the disc/s click on Delete
Click new
Click on apply
Click OK
Click Format, and then click next to proceed with the installation
Skip entering your product key Windows 7 and complete the installation.
When you reach the desktop, click Start, right-click on computer

Scroll down to the Windows Activation
Click the link x days before activation.
Click on the link that says: "show me other ways to activate.
Enter the product key
