Reinstalled Win XP, need to find of old emails in Outlook Express

Where are stored the old OE emails?  I had to reinstall XP SP3 after XP problem.  I want to find the old e-mail files and put them in the new installation of OE.  No format made so older files should be located on the C:

Unless you have moved the OE store folder, and show hidden files and folders is enabled, the storage of OE folder should be found here:

C:\Documents and Settings\Your User of utilisateur\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\ {long string of letters & numbers} \Microsoft\Outlook Express

If all else fails, do an advanced search and include hidden files and folders, and then search for:

*.dbx

  • Windows 8 - since previous import of old emails from Outlook Express

My old computer with XP died and my other uses Windows 8, and I am on a steep learning curve.  I had saved my email on a portable hard drive, and it is stored as .dbx files.   Y at - it an equivalent of Outlook Express in Windows 8, and/or sort I can download these files in order to access all my old messages (in and out) and email addresses.  Help!

As you know by now, my colleague has given you a bit of a "bum steer", Hazel.

While you can not import Outlook Express (OE) in the Mail of Win8 application data, you may be able to import the data to backup OE (DBX files) in Windows Live Mail (2011 or 2012) as long as the backup contains a file named RECORDS. DBX. Assuming that to do this, follow these steps:

    1 download/install Windows [Live] Essentials 2012 via this page-online http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-live/essentials-home

NOTE: When you install either version, there is an option to install only the applications that you want (for example, Windows Live Mail;) Windows/Movie Maker photo gallery) or the entire suite (includes also Windows Writer, SkyOneDrive, etc..).

    2. Once you've got Windows Live Mail installed, create a new folder on the desktop (call, for example, the DBX FILES for convenience) & place a copy of your DBX backup set (i.e., all your files DBX including RECORDS.) DBX !!) in this folder.

3 VERY IMPORTANT! => open the folder that you created in step 2 above. Select all the [CTRL + A] as all the DBX files are highlighted. Right click on the folder group. Select PROPERTIES and uncheck the READ ONLY box (assuming that this is already done).

    4. open Windows Live Mail & run the hotkey ALT + F | Select import messages. Microsoft Outlook Express 6 and point the Import Wizard to the folder created in step 2 above & click OK

The imported data (files) will be located as subfolders in Windows Live Mail imported files as shown in the figure below:

Once your OE messages were imported, they can (a) stay at this place, (b) be moved folder to created by the user in the storage of files (by the above illustration) or (c) be moved to a folder created by the user in an e-mail account (other than a Hotmail account) you set up in Windows Live Mail (i.e., to access your new messages).

[By designed, Windows Live Mail creates a folder structure for each email account unique. or moved to the folder created by the user in the storage files.]

To get instructions on the practice (b) or (c) above, see the bottom half of the blog post from my colleague of Windows Live Mail MVP most of what precedes is based (if not shamelessly copy/paste)-online http://liveunplugged.wordpress.com/2008/05/24/migrating-messages-in-accounts-from-outlook-express-to-windows-live-mail/

[Actually, I'm going to ask him to review/critique my answer in case I may have made a blunder!]

I recently formatted my system. It causes this problem? Is there anyway to recover my emails?

Assuming that really format you your hard drive.
Can erase you every single entry to a file, message, photo, program, document, etc. When you select format you get warnings on this subject.
The format is the last thing you want to do without going through a backup of your personal and important files.

Local folders is automatically created when you installed Tbird.
And it is empty until you move something over there.
(Your former local folder with all its files and messages has been removed under format).

Only messages that are still on your server (stbeehive.oracle.com) can be recovered.

  • How to make records with their emails in them to Outlook Express 5 (old pc) for Outlook Express 6 (new pc)?

Here's the situation: old PC (running XP) running Outlook Express 5. I want to export files as well as e-mail in these worms a new pc still running XP but running Outlook Express 6. When you import I can't import Outlook Express 5 stuff, it only gives me the choice between Outlook Express 4 and Outlook Express 6. So any ideas? You really learn these files (emails not only) and the emails from Outlook Express 5 to Outlook Express on the new PC 6 (old PC).

Someone said to upgrade the old pc Outlook Express 5 to Outlook Express 6, and then create an export, but I don't know which would work because if I do an upgrade from 5 to 6 on old PC, he would see even the oldest post which could be seen on Outlook Express 5?

I need to test this theory out before returning to the customer, but both my XP machines running Outlook Express 6, Outlook Express 5, who is older not. Download Outlook Express: I can't find anywhere! I know it came with IE 6 download, but I can't find that IE 6 download anywhere either. Any suggestions?

Ideally I want to just take the Outlook Express 5 files and emails and import them into Outlook Express 6, but the new Outlook Express 5 is not a choice when it comes to import. If I knew for sure I could upgrade Outlook Express 5 on the old pc for Outlook Express 6 and I wouldn't lose those emails and Outlook Express 6 could see emails: I just do it and then choose export to the format of Outlook Express 6, but who would even work?

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Thank you

  • updated leopard tp el capitan and can find my old email files

I've upgraded to el capitan leopard 10.6 and opening email and can not find my old records. How can I find them?

The mailbox list is divided into categories with such topics on my Mac. When you position the cursor on one of these positions (with the exception of the mailboxes), you should see the Word display / hide it on the right. Please, click on show, if that's what you see.

In the category of the mailboxes, the mailboxes are arranged in groups, such as Inbox. To the left of each group is a small tip of arrow. If the arrow points to the right, click it so that it points downwards.

Also note that you may need to scroll the list of mailboxes upwards or downwards to see it all.

Click on, and then clear the checkbox "Hide protected operating system files." A dialog box with a warning message is displayed. Click on the Yes"" button. Close the "Folder Options" window by clicking "OK".

    3 C:\Documents and Settings\YourUsername\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book (or C:\Documents and Settings\YourUsername\Local Settings\Application Data\Address Book)

Each of the folders that you located just rename. Click a folder, and then press "F2". Rename the files to: "old_stationery', 'old_identities' and"old_address." When you're done, rename each file, click on "Enter".

Click again on 'Start' and select 'run '. In the "Open" box, type "regedit".

View | Current view. Show all Messages is verified? If this is the case, then you have to do.

Two reasons the most common for what you describe is disruption of the compacting process, (never touch anything until it's finished), or bloated folders. More about that below.

Why OE insists on compacting folders when I close it? :
    http://www.insideoe.com/FAQs/why.htm#compact

    Why mail disappears:
    http://www.insideoe.com/problems/bugs.htm#mailgone

    Recovery methods:

If you are running XP/SP3, then you should have a backup of your dbx files in the Recycle Bin (or possibly the message store), copied as bak files.

To restore a folder bak on the message store folder, first find the location of the message store.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, the .dbx files are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in the Solution Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder options | View.

Close OE and in Windows Explorer, click on the dbx to the file missing or empty file, then drag it to the desktop. It can be deleted later once you have successfully restored the bak file. Minimize the message store.

Open OE and, if the folder is missing, create a folder with the * exact * same name as the bak file you want to restore but without the .bak. For example: If the file is Saved.bak, the new folder should be named saved. Open the new folder, and then close OE. If the folder is there, but just empty, continue to the next step.

First of all, check if there is a bak file already in the message. If there is, and you have removed the dbx file, go ahead and rename it in dbx.

If it is not already in the message, open the trash and do a right-click on the file bak for the folder in question and click on restore. Open the message store up and replace the .bak by .dbx file extension. Close the message store and open OE. Messages must be in the folder.

If messages are restored successfully, you can go ahead and delete the old dbx file that you moved to the desktop.

If you have not then bak copies of your dbx files in the Recycle Bin:

DBXpress run in extract disc Mode is the best chance to recover messages:
    http://www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/default.aspx

    And see:

    http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#4

A general warning to help avoid this in the future:

Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They finally are damaged. Create your own folders defined by the user for mail storage and move your mail to them. Empty the deleted items folder regularly. Keep user created folders under 300 MB, and also empty as is possible to default folders.

Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the CPUs, slows down sending and receiving and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes and has even been responsible for the loss of messages. Your up-to-date A / V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more information, see:

Outlook Express is a desktop client and all mail clients remove the messages from the server if it is a POP3 account and unless you select the option leave a copy of messages on the server that has been put at your disposal. What is a POP3 account?

If it is a POP3 account, you're probably SOL, but before you give up, try this tool. You can find messages, and it's not free, so no harm to try.
