Reinstalling Windows XP fails

I think I have a keylogger on my HP laptop. However, Malware and McAfee bites found that nothing in multiple scans, but by mail on the web has been compromised.

Yes, time to overrwrite the XP operating system.

However, whenever I use the OS install disc provided by HP, the process stops at a random moment. The screen goes black, and it seems that the hard drive stops, because it takes about 1 minute before I can turn it back on.

I tried this many times, and it seems to fail at random points. However, he never to the point where I'm actually reformatting. I can still reboot not boot from the disk and get to my computer as usual.

Anyone have any ideas here? The laptop itself works fine, it is plugged (I tried two different points of sale). The first time, however, I tried 'R' (System Recovery), and the first failure came when I tried to enter the administrator password (which I failed twice on... it's been awhile that I installed the OS the first time).

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the feedbalk folks.

Yes, I had made sure the CD start was not the first option, he was going through the boot of CD, at various stages, when it faled. In fact, I tried one last time after the announcement, and he got the part of reinstall and died again. This time, however, he died as he was 'Quick' partition (or something like that), so I have new problems.

And I got two e-mail apparently compromised a month accounts: one with a misspelled word and the other with a very unusual word for passwords, so I think that it unlikely that e-mail accounts were both at the same time "fell".  I was not using a standard monkey that is easy to guess passwords. Although it is strange that none of my MMO accounts have been hacked, nor has my banking online. Is better than cure, however.

Once again, thank you for the comments. Don't know what happened, but I tried to install a version of Vista I had, but did not use, and after several stops, I waited all night, tried again and installed Vista. I just think that my computer is a little pointless at this stage he's career.

    Yes. Without a doubt.

New HARD drive is recognized correctly in the BIOS settings?
    If so avoid any problem.

Moreover, A300 works perfectly and much better with Win7 32 bit.

  • Can I format HARD drive and reinstall Windows 7 on the Qosmio F60 without CD

I think my hard drive is faulty on my F60 Quosmio so I want to reformat the hard drive to see if that will fix it. But I don't have the original packaging and the information with me at the moment so I don't know if it came with a windows 7 CD or not. Whatever it is, I don't have the CD.

I found on the net that most manufacturer who deliver without CD include a "recovery partition" or "factory image partition" which you can access during startup. Anyone know if the F60 Quosmio comes with a CD or if she has this recovery partition or partition image factory? Or do you know if there is a way I can check if my computer is it?

If you have more information about the formatting of the hard drive and reinstall windows 7 without the CD please let me know.

    Thank you.

The laptop came with a Windows disc, because there is a Toshiba recovery disc Creator called tool which create the recovery disk.

The recovery partition was available and it allows you to recover the laptop without the use of the recovery disk, but it does not work if the HARD drive has failed.

  • Windows Update: failed. __Code 643 windows Update encountered an unknown error. _ * AND * __I cannot repair Windows 7 with the disc either. My guess is: these issues are related...? __

I have THREE questions which PEUVENT all be linked togther... What do you think?

[I am slot as Windows 7 Ultimate (free upgrade to Dell PC w/purchase) on a Dell 64 bit PC XPS435]
I've upgraded from Vista about 3 weeks ago.

#1 - Two weeks ago I had a problem with the installation of Nero/LiquidTV-TiVo to my PC... (this is also when the problem started).
To get the "Nero" thing figured out, I took the advice of someone on the Forum/Blog of Nero. The person has provided a lenghty explanation how to uninstall LiquidTV completely by removing the registry files... I don't really know what I'm doing in the registry, but everything that I helped my problem of Nero, but I couldn't tell you WHAT I deleted OR if I have deleted any bad subfolders or whatnot!... the next time I started my PC is when the NEW NUMBER is right.

#2 - On my next BOOT, Windows Update has found an IMPORTANT update:

A security update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 for x 64 systems (KB954430)

.. .and it fails every time, it tries to install saying this:

    Windows Update - failed

Code 643 Windows Update encountered an unknown error.

"Get help with this error" provides little or no help... but it says this:
     "WindowsUpdate_00000643" "WindowsUpdate_dt000"

All the research I did, the problem seems to be with Microsoft .NET Framework... .and all the solutions I found talking about it, "UNINSTALL all THE .NET FRAMEWORK & REINSTALL" ... I tried and there is no .NET Frameworks listed in Add/Remove, and when I press on ' VIEW INSTALLED UPDATES'... " on my PC it says, "no updates are installed on this computer"... what the _____?

#3 - Today, I thought I would just pop the WINDOWS 7 installation disc and do a repair/upgrade... It will not be upgraded.
He cycles most of the way through, then he Has STOPPED and says this:

The following problems prevent upgrade Windows. Cancel the upgrade, perform each task, (it lists only a SINGLE task), and then restart the upgrade to continue.

    • Windows needs to be restarted if necessary to system files can be changed before you continue.

Does not help restart. He tried 3 times and he ends up doing the same thing.
Is it possible I deleted something out of the register so far here and which is cause of all this?
If so, is it possible to fix WITHOUT doing a new install of Windows 7?
OR... anything can be a problem... Please HELP!

(And please note: I am a first year student college with specialization in computer science... but I just started last semester, so I don't know what I should... yet. - though, I SHOULD have known better than to mess with the registry!) My bad).

Thanks a lot for your time in advance, and I look forward to hear from you!  VikeMike4

  • Windows update fails and shows code error 80070490

Hello, I have Windows Vista Home Premium, 32-bit operating system and installed Service Pack 2.

I set Windows to update automatically, but I noticed today that this wasn't working properly, so I clicked on "check for updates" and she came back with the following message:
"Windows could not search for new updates, error found: Code 80070490 Windows update encountered an unknown error.

Under the error message, it lists that the ' most recent Check for Updates "was on 11/25/2009 and"updates have been installed"on 11/25/2009.
But when I checked "View update history" to see updates did not, all the updates that are listed have actually managed, no updates have been identified as having failed. The last update was actually - definition update for Windows Defender on 12/29/2009 - and the previous update - update for the Microsoft XML Core Service Pack 2 (KB973688) 25 / 11 / 2009.

I had this same problem earlier this year with the code 80070490 error come when I tried to update Windows and after trying all the solutions suggest online (including the assisted Microsoft Online Support), I had to contact the Support of Tecnical Microsoft on the phone and he needed someone to help me create a completely new Windows which meant that I lost everything in my old windows.
