removal of large snapshots

Good afternoon, all!

I am cleaning the undergrowth in our installation of VMware and met several virtual machines which were broadcast snapshots - apparently for almost a year.  The typical situation is where the virtual machine is thin-provisioned, the total space used is 35-40 GB, the snapshot is 15-18 GB and there is not a lot of room for error.

Question is: if I delete the snapshots (accept the changes and bringing into the base image) what kind of disk space changes can I expect?  The aim of the game is to migrate some or all of these machines in the new storage space - but none can do with shots running.  As stated, I don't have a lot of spare space to cushion should the VM suddenly balloon to 110 GB or more.

I appreciate all the help that I persevere cleaning and beating against weeds.

Thanks in advance!

Gregg

> It seems that the snapshot is the disk the file for this virtual machine... guest_activated - 000001.vmdk

No - wait a minute.

If you do not see the basedisk, this does not mean that there is no more--the more likely case is that the base vmdk is in a different location.

Open the guest_activated - 000001.vmdk - not guest_activated-000001 - delta.vmdk in a texteditor - then you will probably see a line like this

parentFileNameHint = ' / vmfs/volumes/data/one store long string/guest_activated.vmdk.

You cannot view correctly vmdk files in Datastorebrowser - so use WinSCP or something like that to know

    Hi thang_nguyen!

Another alternative is to double-click the battery icon and when Power Manager opens, click on Advanced Options > Options and uncheck the box "see the gauge of Power Manager in the bar then apply stains.

To access the Lenovo Power Manager when the gauge of Power Manager is disabled, right-click on the Windows icon / energy from the battery in the bar of tasks and you should see "Power Manager".

    Hello

I have to remove a large part of a table of the big log.
    The table is inserted permanently.

    How can do this?

    Thanks for your help
    Oracle 10.2.0.4

It seems that I was wrong. :(
If inserted permanently means that the table must remain online as it is a log table, you can use [url http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/appdev.112/e25788/d_redefi.htm#ARPLS042] dbms_redefinition to redefine the table of the newspaper as a partition of a partitioned table containing the lines to keep and the other with the lines to remove.
After you are finished with the redefinition, you can convert the partition containing the deleted rows of a regular oracle table if you do not want to lose lines, or simply drop this partition.

  • removal of large size of virtual machine snapshot, esxi 4.0.0 (208167)

    Dear Experts,

I am looking for assistance before you do this step, remove the snapshot of a virtual machine (NNMi-Test), 100 GB thick disk has been assigned to this virtual machine when it is created. After the installation of the operating system, we took a snapshot. Explained user had to test something on this one and we wanted as if during the tests of some problem occur due to the facilities at least that we can return to the fresh install of OS snapshot.

After that we missed by mistake that we had seen on this machine. Now I want to delete this single snapshot, but its size is now KB 26,182,660. The current state of the machine, we want to keep, it's OK with us.

I can proceed without fear of deleting, I should say 'remove all' OR 'delete '. Image is attached here with. This machine is the "EVAstorage2" data store and 193 GB is free on this subject.

There is another virtual host below computers run on it, I also need help with clichés:

-machine virtual (NNMi) , assigned to 150 GB thick disk, also have same instant problem has been created and it is now 7.7 GB,.

This machine is on "EVAstorage1" and is 221GB free space

-virtual machine (Bukhari), assigned thick 150 GB, also named snapshot after operating system installation and size soft

this wink, shot is now showing only 128GB

I have attached the images of the three machines I need assistance for: NNMi-Test, NNMi Bukhari

Please note that the Esxi is 4.0.0 (208167)

Please help me and require further details before giving an answer to me, please ask me. Also, keep in mind there are also other virtual machines on the same 'EVAstorage1' and 'EVAstorage2' data with disk available warehouses thin and little with thick disk.

    Kind regards

    Jocelyn

The GUI seems to check the hard of the last snapshot file in the chain to see if it contains an entry "ddb.thinProvisioned". Because this entry is present in the hard disk basic GUI file guess a thick disc put into service.

I suggest that you remove the snasphot of a single virtual machine at the same time and that after opening hours. Please make sure that there are no application backup or other task that would try to create a snapshot of this machine that performs the erase process.

I wouldn't worry too much about the size of the snapshot or any performance impact, just be patient and wait as the deletion process at the end (which could take a while).

The maximum required temporarily on the disk with a single snapshot is about the size of the snapshot itself more space for a snapshot of assistance, which contains changes to the virtual machine, while the removal is underway.

  • Removal of the Snapshots of LinkedClone Corrupts other LinkedClones

    Hello

I currently have a problem where I have 3 LinkedClones created from the parent even snapshot.

The things to do is to create a large number of snapshots per virtual machine, so has the need for the deletion of snapshots after a period of time.

Because I only need the latest snapshots, I always delete the oldest one (the one at the top of the tree).

This action will eventually change the ID in the Parent virtual machine VMX file, causing the other 2 virtual machines to become unusable.

    An example.

Parent creates snapshot 0, which will be used to bring clones A, B and C.

Using these 3 clones, I continue to take snapshots over a period of time until the snapshot tree is full.

    Take A, with snapshots: 1. 2. 3 4. 5 6. 7 8.

I remove 1 to make more room. Change ID of the Parent

What can I do to fix this?

On a side note, vSphere Client tells me he needs consolidation for VMs B and C.

A few days ago, I discussed the same problem with another user. What is missing in the description that you mentioned, is the creation of a file for the linked clone .vmsd. Either add a .vmsd like the one file I attached when you create a linked clone or add two lines to the existing .vmsd file. Make sure you top up (remove the inventory/add to inventory) the virtual machine after that.

  • Removal of hidden snapshots

Everyone knows about the following problem with snapshots and if so do you have a recommendation for a solution?

We have a virtual machine with snapshots that are not displayed in the Snapshot Manager. He is running on a host 4.1 with vmdk files stored on a local disk with size of 1 MB. We need to migrate the computer virtual local storage to a San, but we can't because of the 'hidden' snapshots and try to create a new snapshot fails due to the size limitation of vmdk with size of 1 MB blocks. Error: ' creating a snapshot for a virtual machine fails with the error: file is larger than the maximum file size supported.

We run Essentials Plus with 3 hosts on 4.1. A host is basically test and dev, so we can do what we want with him. Possible workaround only I have seen so far is cold clone the virtual machine to a new data store or try to migrate it to a host on 3.5 or an earlier version. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you.

You can use VMware Converter (which will consolidate snapshots) to move the comments, or cold migration (which will be kept)

I would like to create a script that will make use of an input file which bears the names of virtual machine containing the shots with a common name. I used some of the logic in the script to create snapshots and I'm boning remove them now. I have attached the script to delete the input file and the creation script. The creation script works fine using the input file, but I know that my logic of the delete is wrong. Please let me know if you can see are the corrections is necessary

  • The safest method to remove several old snapshots

I use tool ASM/VE of Equallogic to make shots, but on 1 of my virtual machines, it has not clean properly on the rise and has failed in some shots.  I want to use the safest procedure to remove/commit these clichés.

A further complication, as evidenced by the screenshots, Snapshot Manager shows that I have 4 snapshots, but when I browse the data store, I see that there are some files in component 19/2 snap who only sees the Snapshot Manager.

So, should I use the "Remove all" option in the Snapshot Manager, or remove the buttons one at a time, I guess from which individual snap?

    Fine thanks

    Chad

    Hello.

The safest approach would be to start at the bottom of the list of snapshots and remove them one at a time while working your way to the top of the list.  Using the button remove all potentially consume a lot of disk space.

    Good luck!

  • Remove the large table

    Hello

I have a very large non partitioned table about 50 GB. I need to remove old data from the table that would be around 25-30 GB.

    What I have is

    (1) table a Dump Export using expdp
    (2) drop table
    (3) create a partitioned table
    (4) import the Table data
    (5) scores drop

Please let me know if there is a better way to do the same?

    Uhm... do a conditional export?

It should be a bit faster because you do not have to import the original table.

    Bye,.

  • Remove the large bottom menu bar.

When I open Firefox now I get another screen that I've done in the past. There are two things I would change, but may not know how to change:
    1) there is a bar large-fonted on an inch of height that is spread in the bottom of the screen with icons and commands that are already available elsewhere, like downloading. I would like to delete this whole bar. How can I do this?
    (2) I put my home page by default to the Google search page; This has been replaced by the new Firefox home page; I would by default Google again. How can I do this?

I guess that you are referring to the Quick Launch bar which shows on the topic: homepage.

You can set a different page than the home page (start).

I had missed your response above that completely demonstrate comments: homepage.

You can define https://www.google.com as homepage

  • How can I remove a large number of duplicates in iTunes library

I managed to get all the songs in my library duplicated! Don't know how I did it, but it's a nuisance. Is it possible to remove all duplicates without having to do it song by song?

Are you sure that these are really duplicates? Some iCloud users found a duplicate is really something in iCloud and iCloud items means that they do not show to hide.

If you really have duplicates in your case probably the best way is to see if it all happened at the same time.  See the exact replica and then sort by date and remove the 50% that have been added to this date.
