  I burn the software Acer on a DVD, and then format the recovery partition.  You will have to boot from the Windows 7 DVD to format the partition, Windows can sometimes be a bit psychotic, but this isn't sucidal.  You are unable to format a partition with an operating system installed on it.  When you burned the DVD with the Acer software, start from the Win7 DVD, choose custom installation and once the two partitions are visible, choose delete the recovery partition, and then re-create.  Once done and back in Win7, you can then copy the back Acer DVD software.

  You will also need to change the boot loader, right-click on my computer, choose Properties.  On the next screen, select advanced system settings, and then click the Advanced tab and startup and recovery.  Remove the o/s is no longer needed.

  It seems that the boot loader is damaged. You need to install the earlier operating system first, and then install the latest operating system. If you do not have (for example, if you install Windows XP on a computer that is already running Windows 8), you can make your system unusable.
