  Enable JMX by following the instructions here: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E18686_01/coh.37/e18682/jmx.htm

  This will allow you to see the sizes/node cache. Since you are using other caches that are not limited by the size probably that can be the problem.

  We have successfully used contribute 4 (Windows) on a server Apache 2 WebDAV for several months now. About 20 employees have updated about 500 pages with little trouble (DAV stale locks and there being the worst) so far.
  
  We found that once you edit a page and associated external style sheets are downloaded to the local cache to Contribute ('sites') style sheets are always retrieved from the cache (for editing mode) and never requested again from the server (even if they have been updated).
  
  Thus, for example, given the following XHTML code snippet:

  Whether a.html referring to X.css which includes Y.css. If Y.css is being updated (last modified date changes) without changing X.css (lastmodified request WebDAV PROPFIND unchanged from the version cached) then Contribute do not bother with Y.css.
