Remove my drive hard slave - a second version of Windows XP

Hello. I bought a blank main hard drive for my PC, with the intention to install XP on it. During the installation process, I ended up trying to install Windows XP on my secondary drive - he was not let me install XP on my new drive. However, the installation on my secondary disk failed. In the end, I managed to install XP on my new main drive by unplugging the secondary drive.

Now, everything works fine, including the secondary drive, but the second version of XP are still partially installed on my secondary disk. I want to delete safely, without deleting all of the other facilities/files on this drive. Probably just delete the WINDOWS directory on the second disc are always going to stay behind?

I tried to boot the PC using only my secondary drive, to delete the windows using the installation CD, but it will not load the Windows installation program, saying there is a problem with this drive (despite me setting the bios, the jumpers and cables properly boot).

So, does anyone know or any other method, I can completely get rid of this 2nd version of Windows on my second drive?

Thank you very much.

You will not be able to run all the programs that have been installed on the secondary drive, so we are only concerned about the data. The cleanest way to handle this would be to copy the data to an external USB drive, and then just format the secondary internal drive of your current installation of Windows. • My drive hard netbook is too small for Windows Xp Pro

I tried to load a new Windows Xp Pro on my Asus eee Pc 4 g with a hard disk of 4Gb SD. It was Linux I want. The microsoft site, I read stated that it would use 1.5 GB of space. I keep running out of space with all updates. I made a mistake by putting this new copy oem on the netbook. It was activated a month ago and I loaded it twice because it is so big. I compressed drive and reduced the system restore. I don't want to lose this copy and think I should be able to load it on a machine with a bigger drive. I can charge it with the same key or what I need to lose the software. I know it's my mistake, but I think I should be able to reload them on a machine with a bigger drive and save the cost of the software. Microsoft will allow me to move the software? Perhaps they will assign another key? Thank you

I can charge it with the same key or what I need to lose the software.

Sorry, what OEM can't be moved to another computer.

You can buy a hard drive more and put it in the netbook, and then install your OEM copy.

You can move the windows on a new computer

If it's a full license or upgrade retail - Yes. You can move it to another computer as long as it is installed on one computer at a time (and if it's a version upgrade the new Windows computer must have its own license of qualification). The previous Windows installation on your old computer must be formatted or deleted. You will have to perhaps call Microsoft and explain what happened to complete activation. Turning it on the second computer will automatically be in effect 'disable' the license for the first computer.

If it's an OEM license - don't. OEM licenses, including Windows preinstalled on a computer before purchase and Windows purchased separately, are related to the first computer, they are installed on and cannot be transferred to another computer. To install Windows on another computer, you will need to buy another copy.

Microsoft will allow me to move the software? Perhaps they will assign another key? Thank you

You will need to buy another copy to install on another computer, if you can find a copy of XP.

You can purchase Windows 7 here (or at a local store):

  • drive hard 500 GB showing 465 GB

The word "gigabyte" actually has two values. Referring to the size of the RAM and the file sizes, it includes a binary definition of 1024 to the power of 3 (1 073 741 824 bytes). For any other use, it is 1000 to the power of 3 (1,000,000,000). 500GB hard drive contains about 500 billion but only 465 GB characters in the jargon 'computer '. HARD drive manufacturers, naturally, to refer to the higher figure.

I removed my xp hard drive to another computer and now it says that I have to 'activate' and when I try, I get a weird response and they all but hang up on me.  I used this drive for many years, even the screen shows a picture of my table with flowers in a vase.  What is going on?  How can I get this problem?

Your hard drive, installed on a computer with Windows XP was preinstalled by the computer manufacturer? If this is the case, then you have a "OEM version" of Windows which is linked to the computer first it is installed on and cannot be moved or reinstalled on another computer.

If however you have a "Commercial" of XP version that you bought in a store, then you should be able to activate by phone, be aware that move the drive from one computer to another is more often go to work and XP may have problems (device drivers and other issues). The best solution is a clean installation (after you back up your data files).

Original title: replacement hard drive configuration issue

My hard drive crashed and I can't access anything anyone on this subject. I have a second hard drive that was used for additional storage only. I'm doing this second walk my master drive. After changing the cables, jumpers, the bios settings to show as the master I am using the Windows XP disk, I try to put in place. I get an error message that says: I need a full version disc windows genuine, not a disc to upgrade to. When I bought the computer it came with Windows ME preinstalled and there was no disk that came with the machine. When I went to XP apparently, I bought a version upgrade, not the full version. Is it possible to get a cd of microsoft, or download a file, which can help get this another hard drive mounting correctly?

  • I removed a secondary hard drive but now Vista will not boot. I tried startup repair, but failed. What alternatives are there?

It is a desktop computer that I built myself, so I have no tech support. Until I removed the hard drive, I formatted to remove all data. Since then, Vista does not start. I used my installation disc to repair Vista, but that has failed. I tried the system restore, which was a success, but Vista still does not start. What else can I do to solve this problem.

    Hello itisallgeektome,

Open Control Panel and click on Administrative Tools. In the Administrative Tools window, click computer management, and then in the next window, click on disk management. When the disk management window opens look down the list of partitions and see if you have a "system reserved" partition This is where the system files are stored.

If you have installed the drive 'after' that you installed vista, then I accept the boot files would not be on the second drive, but it seems strange that the windows repair option will not correct the bootloader. However, by doing an inplace upgrade this will re - install windows vista (but it will not, or should not affect your files/programs (However it might be useful to back up all the important files that you cannot just in case beed)). As a complete reinstallation is completed, it will create a new bootloader in the process.
