remove old laptop windows vista and install on a new

I have a genuine license of windows vista family premium on my old laptop, I got the cd of vista with the old box to laptop dell, I got a new laptop with free back, I want to format my old laptop and sell and install windows vista on my new I read that once windows has been activated it is no longer usable on another computer unless it's an edition of retail and mine is OEM.

is it possible to remove the license filed the old laptop and save it to the new laptop? or is there something else I can do? or have one to sell the old laptop with vista cd?

Thank you Walter to be clear and try to help. I appreciate it. (I thought that my request was slightly different to the original post, so I stretched a hope).

So if my hard drive crashes, I also have to buy Windows again. How Microsoft get away with this _? There was none of this information at the point of sale.

Hey fingercuts

No to the last question

If your drive hard breaks down in the old compaq laptop from hp, you can contact hp compaq and get them to send you a set of vista recovery disks to reinstall vista on a new hard drive install you in the old laptop that you already purchased your license for this old laptop vista

they do normally for somewhere between 20-$40

and you are allowed to replace a hard drive of your machine and also to replace ram

I hope it clears up a little bit for you

also I wish you a great festive season

Merry Christmas
