Remove or delete an update of "select updates to install.

I had an answer about the failure of automatic loading of an update to select updates to install.  I finished the instructions and the update was successful.  However, the update is still listed in select updates to install and continues to install and fail.  How can I remove this update to select updates to install. There is no option to delete or remove it.  The index update is "Updated for the management of rights for Windows Vista (KB979099) Client".

Removal of old live updates.  Mine back in early 2008. When I request its deletion a window appears with a list of data and told me that if I remove the update, it could cause a problem?

    For Windows XP only:

Folders that have uninstall as part of the name (for example $NtUninstallKB282010$ who reside in C:\windows (hidden files) are window Hot difficulty updating folders/files) can be removed safely (providing ever, you wish to uninstall the updates). I recommend you leave these records for a period of at least one month to make sure that the update works correctly.

These updates can be removed individually or together. To learn more about the update/s go on:
http://support.Microsoft.com/?kbid=xxxxxx NB: XXXXXX = the actual number, not to mention the "Q" or "Ko."

Once you have removed the uninstall folders/files, then go to control panel, add/remove programs. Select the title of the corresponding Windows fix on the folder/file of the patch you just deleted, and select Delete. You will get a Windows error. This is because you deleted the uninstall folder/files. Simply choose OK and the entry will be removed from the Add/Remove Programs list.

In Vista - update uninstall method in Windows Vista is quite different from that in Windows XP.

Uninstaller for each update folder no longer exists in Vista and the uninstall information is stored by the Volume Shadow Copy service.

After each update, Volume Shadow Copy service backup only the updated files.

So with Vista, it's a differential backup, rather than a full backup files for uninstall
    in Windows XP.

This safeguard mechanism is used to save disk space.

So basically, you are unable to manually delete the uninstall it from the computer.

    Hello Alonda,

Thanks for the response on the answers.microsoft.com forum.

It seems that you are really wanting to get free space on your hard drive.  Certainly understand this importance.  Did you run a disk cleanup?  Do this by => click Start ORB-> computer-> right click on your drive Local (usu. C :) and select properties-> under a general tab, click Disk Cleanup

Disk Cleanup will usually present your files can be deleted without reprecussions.  Also, most of the files that you can delete Windows putting updates in question the question about WINSXS, get lodged in this folder.  Here is an article of Nice forum describing the WINSXS file a little more away.

  • Removal of the software updates

Should I be delete previous updates in the list installed programs when a new update has been installed on my computer. ? Specifically updates to security.  I know that Java recommends that you remove it from their previous updates.

Java has recommended to delete the previous updates because in the past, each update was considered to be a new program. They are not only more. Don't worry about prior removing updates from Windows before installing new ones.

  • Is it ok to remove the old Windows updates as I have many of them take a lot of disk space?

I have several updates of microsoft for a few years. I am auto update, but all the old updates are still there. Is it necessary to keep or to delete to free up space. I get warnings that the computer is low on virtual memory.

original title: is it OK to remove the old windows updates as I have many of them taking place?

Virtual memory is used only when your physical memory has been exhausted.  This happens usually either when you have not restarted recently, or when you have too many programs running at the same time.  I suggest you reboot at least once a week and if it continues to happen, a purchase more RAM.

    Hi Carl,

I suggest you go through this article to Java which can be useful.

Why should I remove old versions of Java in my system?

Removal of previous versions of the .net Framework is based on the applications that are running on the computer.

For applications, if you have an application based on any .NET Framework on the computer, you cannot delete it since you have need to support the application runs correctly.

.NET framework 3.5 SP1 includes .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 and 3.0 SP2. This means that .NET Framework 2.0 and 3.0 can not be deleted because they are the sine qua non of .NET Framework 3.5 SP1. If you have any application based on .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, please do not remove .NET 2.0 SP2, 3.0 SP2 and 3.5 SP1.

I would also not to uninstall the security updates that are important for the security of your computer.

Older versions of the improved Adobe taking place HD can be deleted after update?

Update from the upgrade - two different animals.  Updates the software that they update.  Upgrades of Adobe products do not need previous versions.

Improved versions are better off removed before installing updates.  There are occasions where different versions share a file where deleting an older version after installing the newest one can delete a necessary file.
