Rename a folder?

Am I missing something?

I made several folders to organize my apps by long pressing the home screen. Now, how to rename them? They are simply called "the folder '! How useful is that all organizing?

Anyone know?

In the meantime, I'm using an app called Apps Organizer and it works well except the icons on their records are so tiny. Not the same size as when I organize via a Droid folder. But at least I can organize...

So, does anyone know how to rename a folder Droid?

I appreciate your answers,

Claudia

Try to rename the folder of bookmarks 'Unsorted Bookmarks'? or add a folder at this level?
I tried the suggestions in the forum (ie. Shift ctrl B); access to the file through library; all no chance.

When you try to add a new folder on the same level as the 'Unsorted Bookmarks' folder, the new folder appears in the folder "Unsorted Bookmarks" and not on the same level.

    Thanks for your suggestions.

I do not recommend this. IIRC, users have mentioned that this folder has been renamed, when they started a new "Unsorted Bookmarks" folder has been created automatically when Firefox.

    Hello Tiffy.T,

Thanks for the return of the response.  If this happened recently, I suggest to perform a restore of the system to a point in time before you rename the folder.  Please let us know on this status.

I do not see changes within a folder, except if I go up a level and then again enter the folder, for example, create new folder, rename the folder, rotate the image, etc..

By pressing the "F5" key would probably be to refresh the folder.

  • Rename the folder to the user files

In Vista, I can't rename a folder of the user.  This computer used to be used by someone else, and I can't rename the folder so everything I do Gets the tag with his name on it.  I changed the name of the computer and log in name.  Can I change any other user except this one folder.  Any ideas how to rename this folder?

It sounds like a problem with permissions for me (he does not resemble a corrupted profile) - you try to use its files under your user name and the system wants as his user name.  The solution is to give your full user name to all records in his profile and then to take possession of all the files in the profile - then you will have the rights you need.

To view your permissions, right-click on the file/folder, click Properties, and check the Security tab.  Check the permissions you have by clicking on your user name (or group of users).  Here are the types of permissions, you may have: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/What-are-permissions.  You must be an administrator or owner to change the permissions (and sometimes, being an administrator or even an owner is not sufficient - there are ways to block access (even if a smart administrator knows these ways and can move them - but usually should not because they did not have access, usually for a very good reason).)  Here's how to change the permissions of folder under Vista: http://www.online-tech-tips.com/windows-vista/set-file-folder-permissions-vista/.  To add take and the issuance of right of permissions and ownership in the right click menu (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/05/21/take-and-grant-full-control-permissions-and-ownership-in-windows-7-or-vista-right-click-menu/.

To resolve this problem with folders, appropriating the files or the drive (as an administrator) and give you all the rights.  Right-click on the folder/drive, click Properties, click the Security tab and click on advanced and then click the owner tab.  Click on edit, and then click the name of the person you want to give to the property (you may need to add if it is not there--or maybe yourself). If you want that it applies to subfolders and files in this folder/drive, then check the box to replace the owner of subcontainers and objects, and click OK.  Back and now there is a new owner for files and folders/player who can change the required permissions.  You can change now switched to read-only (even if the main folder indicates that they are always read-only - you can access yourself as the owner).  You can keep them in read-only to other users, customers and administrators even (although they can support themselves and access, if they wish, and it is really not that you can do to stop it except protect the file with a password by using a 3rd party product).  This should also give you access to open and work with all of the files in these filders, as if they were in your file.  Here is more information on the ownership of a file or a folder: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67717-take-ownership-file.html.  To add take ownership in the menu of the right click (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/.

You can also create a folder in your profile named username of the other person and move the files in this folder.  He needs to pick up the permissions and attributes of the new folder (YOUR user profile folder) and you won't need to go to his profile whenever you want to get one of his records.  You may still need to change the permissions and/or ownership if you do this - it would be just to make things easier and quicker to access.

Good luck and I hope this helps!

  • Some letters of the alphabet will not type when you try to rename a folder

I went to rename a file today and some letters of the alphabet appear on the screen when I typed them on my laptop. I'm using Vista on a Dell computer, but I don't think that it's the laptop, since the letters appears on a Word document and they work fine now. I think that the letters were T,C,H and V. All other letters work fine.

I have the soda on the keys accidentally spills earlier today, but I cleaned up as quickly as possible, and really didn't have any other problems with it, except that the Shift key sticks a bit, I think. I think it's the soda causing the problem with the missing letters, but it's only when I go to rename a folder. I tried out too many Documents, but that did not help.

If someone could let me know how I could solve this problem, it would be great. It is not a major problem, just an irritation.

    Thank you

In fact, I don't know what happened, but I just tried renaming a folder under the side to see if it still worked, and today it let me type T, C, H and V. I do not know!!! It works fine now. Weird...

    Thanks for your help though.

    Suggestions:

Run a file system check to see if it can find some bad files and if he can fix it for you.

Start button > Search box type cmd > look up, do a RIGHT click oncmd.exe > click onRun As Administrator > in this window cmd black and white, type at the prompt flashing sfc/scannow > press theENTER key.
Note: there is a space between 'sfc' and ' / '.
To sit and wait. It will take time.
When finished, exit the cmd window.
    Reboot (restart your computer)
After the hell of a file, see if you still have the same problem.

See also, what said result sfc/scannow. If he says he finds wrong files, but impossible to fix, then you can download the CBS.
    Here's how:
In the SAME elevated command prompt window, copy and paste this command line...
    Notepad C:\windows\logs\cbs\cbs.log
    then press the Enter key.
(if you have to type the command, please note that there is a SPACE between 'Notepad' and 'C')

Hello, I have a problem with windows vista, I can't rename a new folder, when I create a new folder and then rename the folder, the folder was renamed "new folder" can you help me? to solve this problem?

Only time that happens, in my limited, knowledge is... If you use a 'illegal' name, such as ":" symbol. There are symbols, that you cannot use as part of a name. When this happens, you should get a warning indicating that the name is not allowed, something to that effect. Then he returns itself back to the new folder.
Suggest you try again with conventional names. See if it works or not.

  • Cannot rename a folder

I tried to rename a folder, but windows will not let me. It seems that he thinks that the file is still in use by another program, but all the programs that use it have been closed. When I rename it to all first I get a window with a title "Destination Folder Access Denied". the text of the window is the following: "you must confirm this operation". When I click on continue I get another window with a title: user account control and the text: Windows needs your permission to continue and then the first window appears still once, that at this point, I click 'Try Again' but this window comes up. How can I solve this problem?

    Thank you

It is probably a problem with the file permissions (or one of its parent folders -) even if you are running as an administrator and maybe even if you have created the file yourself.  You need to take full or perhaps even to take possession of the file.  Where is the folder location (it's name from the full path, including the file name) - which could make a difference?  You may need to be an administrator to change the name of this folder and you can be signed as a standard user - if so, log in as an administrator and try again.  What is the name of the programs (name and version) you may open files in this folder - maybe they (maybe a small part of them) launched at startup and can be disabled through Autorun http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx.  Check and make sure that if you think that all of these programs (but the error message is different from what would appear if that were the case, so I don't think that's the problem).

Here are a few tips that will help with permissions and ownership:

You may need to go to advanced to check the properties and remove the ones that are inherited (as long as the user name is already included in the permissions main ads with the permissions you want to give it) - but this isn't a common problem, except in system folders (where you shouldn't really be add folders or change anything unless you REALLY know what you're doing - even I was hesitant to work in) these areas, because a mistake can cause you to lose a program or even make you need to re - install the operating system (which you certainly don't want to do).

You can keep them in read-only to other users, customers and administrators even (although they can support themselves and access, if they wish, and it is really not that you can do to stop it except protect the file with a password by using a 3rd party product.)  Here is more information on the ownership of a file or a folder: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67717-take-ownership-file.html.  To add take ownership in the menu of the right click (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/.

  • Why can't I rename a folder?

When I try to rename a folder newly created - after saving a file pdf (attachment Outlook inside) - I get this error message: unable to perform action because the folder or file is open in another program. I can't do seem to change it.  The file is not open in Word; Nothing in Word is open.  Nothing is open in Adobe Acrobat.  The folder I want to rename IS open. but I can't understand how to rename a file without opening it.  Other independent Win Explorer files are open.  This so-called open the folder does not appear in the Win Task Manager.  And the only file in the devinitely folder is not opened.  Should I give up and learn to love the name I tried to change?  Or is there another step I should try?  Of course, restarting the computer will certainly solve the problem.  But I wouldn't have this problem in the first place.

Thank you.  I solved the problem of the low tech medium.  The name of the original file was pretty close to what I had so I've ignored the problem, went and did something else in Word for a while and then tried to rename the folder again.  It worked!  Explains exactly the problem, of course, but who has time to deal with weird things in Windows?
