Reorganisation of our group

We currently have a group with a pool of storage ('default') and two members:

-PS4100, NL - SAS 7200 RPM in RAID 10 (smallest Member)

-SAS PS6210, 10,000 RPM in RAID 50 (largest Member)

I would like to convert the two members to the RAID 6 (to gain some space and increase the reliability of RAID) while at the same time, separate the members so that they operate independently for volumes are is no longer "striped" on the two members.

In the case where a member fails I would make sure the volumes on the remaining Member remain online and accessible.

I have enough free space in the group to remove the smallest Member and move all volumes for the largest Member during the migration process.

My idea is to:

-create a new pool and move the smallest Member in this pool (this should move all volumes for the largest Member).

-change the RAID level on the smallest Member (at this time, all volumes should have been evacuated from this member, by the action of moving pool)

(- back some volumes of the largest Member of the smallest Member / the new swimming pool)

-change the RAID level on the largest Member

This work and this will leave completely independent volumes on each Member, or do I need to divide the members in their own groups to create a complete independence?

Hello

You have correctly.  Simple members in their own pool, do not share data so that only the defaulting Member volumes will be affected.   When you move it 4100 would be the right time to update the firmware on the Board and check to see if the firmware of the player needs upgrading as well.  There is a new firmware of drive kit, v9 available on the site.

You must also upgrade the 6210 to match of course.  6210's must run 7.1.9 or 8.1.1 to avoid a possible cache synchronization problem.  So the 4100 will need to have the same firmware.

Kind regards

Don

  • Adding a new PS6100XS to our group

    Hello

We recently bought a new PS6100XS to add to our existing Equallogic group that contains 1 PS4100X and 1 PS4100XV.  I read on the forums that I would not add the table of hybrid PS6100XS to the current storage pool, but I should rather create a new storage pool as the load balancer isn't also distribute the IOPS / s in the table of the hybrid.  Recommendation of this Dell is a best practices document, that I missed?

In addition, my plan is to add the PS6100XS to the current group and create a new storage pool to move volumes of the original pool him so I can move the firmware on these two tables with no impact to production.

I know that Dell only supports the management of the different firmware for the time that he need to update the firmware on the other berries, but I wonder if it would be that a problem with the volume moves because they will be at different levels of FW.  The two PS4100s are running 5.2.2 (I can see Don W grimace as I type that).  Thanks for your comments.

    Jake

    ;-)

The load balancer will work with hybrid matrices.  What can sometimes happen which is a relatively smaller hybrid with very large paintings SATA.   So, no matter what most of the work will be done by the SATA bays, since they have the majority of the space.

A lot depends on the type of I/o, the group is handling.

assuming that the 6100 is 6.0.x, level to 6.0.10 first.  QA can't test all combinations of the firmware and the operations of the table, then you might have a problem to a volume pool poolside 6.0.x 5.2.x.

  • How to group messages between different phones

Hi, my friend just got a Galaxy and told us we could still message group with my other friend and I of the iphone. But its been three days and my friends on the Galaxy can only get our messages when they are sent only to him directly. Is there a way to fix this? or at least make it if our group messages can still function...

    Hello

If your friend was previously using an iPhone, ask them to check that she struck out iMessage / off iMessage, now that she's using a non-Apple Phone:

  • Orientation of storage group

    Hi all

We are expanding our storage environment and wanted some advice on setting up our group/pools.

We currently consisting of 12 TB PS4000E storage group, it is used as mass storage for files and archiving of mail servers. All volumes are in the default storage pool.

We bought a 24 CT PS4100E and a 14 TB PS6100X to add to this group. The idea is to migrate existing data from Vault/e-mail on the server of the PS4000E file, so it can be removed from the Group and used elsewhere in the company.

In scenario 1 we add two devices in the Group and separate storage pools and migrating volumes from the storage pool by default for the pool containing the PS4100E. Then remove the PS4000E of the group.

In scenario 2 we have the PS4100E and the PS6100X in the same pool of storage and migrate the data in the same way. The group can then distribute the data as seems it.

In the future we will migrate VM storage over another group, containing a PS5000.

What are the considerations of raid level and pool for these scenarios? RAID5 has been recommended for both of the new features, but can they coexist in the same pool and work well with the same level of raid?

    Thanks in advance.

    Jim

Yes, you can run different RAID levels in the same pool and through different speeds with him when to use the latest version of the firmware (5.x and v6.x).

You can add new members in any combination you like (an a R10 two R10 or the two R6, or alone as a R6).  APLB (Automatic Performance Load Balancing) will examine various aspects of i/o, disk speed, type, RAID and determine the best placement for the slices of volume and move the data according to the needs (in the background) to provide the best performance.

Just note that because the SAS bays generally have more space, volumes have generally several sections on the largest capacity table.

  • Group mappings

You will have to type certain powers of the brain here. I can map an NT account to a group ACS? If I have a group on our domain called tngrp, can I map it to a HSCguest of ACS group? It will be the groups more detailed if these groups must be checked before our group of NT login domain?

    Thank you

    Dwane

Yes, Yes and Yes. You can map windows at the ACs groups groups. The traps are:

You cannot use the nested in AD groups (e.g. testgroup contains testgroup1 and testgroup2).

A user can not mapped to several groups of ACS. For this reason, as you said, you want the largest groups first. For example, if you want admins to map to administrators and users of map users, you must set the admins above users mapping mapping (assuming that all admins are users).

  • creating groups of VLAN - traffic disruption

I asked this question of TAC and got a vague response, so I was going to post here to see if someone had actually done this and what were their results.

We have a fairly basic config of UCS currently, there is a port on each fabric channel and our uplinks can take care of all our VLAN so all VLAN can use all uplinks.

We will soon add a new channel of port that will only serve the VLAN specific (trafifc for the external VCC of our Nexus 7 k). So we will now have a disjoint network layer 2, where VLAN 1xx require port-channel 1 and VLAN 4xx can only use the port-channel 2.

I have read all Cisco docs and it seems rather simple to deal with groups VLAN so that we make sure VLANS only try to use correct rising/port-channel binding, however our concern is moving all our VLAN existing in a group VLAN and the final outcome of this. I ran this by TAC and they said that there could be a "brief traffic disruption" when we apply this config.

It gives me some anxiety b/c we are talking about all our ESXi hosts and each VM on these hosts (500 +). However it may be brief, that could be a problem if all of a sudden everything is unable to speak.

Someone had an existing config that they moved to a configuration group VLAN and what has been your experience? It disrupt all traffic?

We have not added the new port-channel, so everything we do now is entering a group of our existing VLANs and by assigning them to the existing port-channel.

Any comments or thoughts would be appreciated

We did just that. We moved in four areas separated into four groups of clan. We have created our groups and then all the VLAN for this corresponding uplink at the same time. We didn't see any packet loss or impact to end users.

We have a facility of similar size. About 20 blades, ESXi server and windows, behind the pair of FIs. About 400 machines behind that. The movement is quick and easy.

Previously, we were using the uplink of LAN Manager. I found it a bit heavy. Clan group works much easier in my opinion.

Plan a window of maintenance, to be careful, but my experience of 25 VLAN moving through four interfaces different disjoint layer 2, we have not had any problems.

  • The ACS user groups

    I have a problem.

We have 2 groups that are created in ACS, group 1: access Ganymede and 2:Radius Access group. Group 1 has the people that have been created on the server ACS itself. The 2nd group is dynamic to users who are enabled access through Manager users for domains. We do not want to have the 2nd group in order to access our routers and switches with their Accounts of Microsoft, they can now, at least insofar as, at the prompt to activate it. I wish I had 2 completely independent from the other groups. Our group 1 is used only for our administrators to have access to all of our network devices.

I'm sure some type of filtering or to a group of addresses IP could be implemented on GBA, but I'm not sure where, if this is the case.

    Can someone please!

    Thank you!

    Matt

You must set up Network Access Restrictions (NAR), group 2 to not be able to access the routers/switches to restrict.

Make sure the Group and level NAR is checked under the Interface of configuration - Advanced Options. Then go under Group 2, NAR section, check the box "Set IP access restrictions", select Table sets 'Appeal denied Points', and then select each of the routers/switches, using a * for the Port and address and add them to the table.

It doesn't matter that in Group 2 will refuse to authenticate on one of the routers/switches.

  • Can groups share agreements signed pending under the tab "manage"?

I work with my admin on create and edit the parameters of our group and our goal is to allow multiple users in each ministerial group share the same list of Out for Signature / signature / cancelled / archived agreements to the title of the tab 'manage '.  Is this possible?  Or groups serve only as a means to assign the account settings for different sets of users?

    Hi Wesley,

Groups are not intended for this purpose. Groups are for users with same account settings.

However, I agree that it's a pretty nice feature to have. I hope that it is picked up and implemented quickly.

  • Scipt PowerCli to find VM outside groups of DRS in VMware clusters configuration rules

    Hello

I have a cluster VMware DRS rules enabled, with 'Virtual Machines to hosts' type.

Whenever a virtual machine is created, it must be added manually in one of our group of DRS within the parameters of the VMware cluster rules. To check if this action has not been forgotten, we need run a script with PowerCli, showing the virtual machine that are not present in the Group of DRS.

any idea to create this kind of script?

    Thanks for your help

    Concerning

Would this be something like this work?

    $cluster = get-Cluster-name mycluster

    $vmsInGroup = $cluster. ExtensionData.ConfigurationEx.Group | Where {$_-is [VMware.Vim.ClusterVmGroup]} | %{

Notice-EEG-Id $_. VM | Select the name of ExpandProperty-

    }

    Get-VM-location $cluster | Where {$vmsInGroup - notcontains $_.} Name} |

    Select the name of ExpandProperty-

The script first gets the names of all virtual machines that are used in any VM Group on the cluster.

Then he gets all the virtual machines in the cluster and displays only the names of these virtual machines that are not in a VM group

  • Creating rule of compliance for the Add Group to the local Administrators group for the Machine.

I try to write a compliance rule that can add an Active Directory group to a local group on a machine. For example the addition of our group of COMPUTER security in the local Administrators group on some machines.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

    DK

The name refers on behalf of the group, so the first line is correct, but you must change the other Member who appoints the members of the group.  It would be like this, 'Member AS Server Ops % '.  I'm guessing that server Ops is a security AD Group, then you could also do "members = DOMAIN\Server Ops.  Usually best to select by pressing the 3 points and choosing from the available groups to make sure that you do not have typo and you have selected the correct attribute.

  • Role of group leader

Recently, we have noticed in our of our groups BOWL that, even if several people were given the role of creator and Coordinator by using the administration tool, they didn't have access to the members page where they could make changes. The original group manager might, but not the additional people, account required to these roles. Our best estimate is, and tests it seems that you have only one shot at naming the 'group management' at the stage of creation of the first group and that the role of the creator and Coordinator are different Group Manager.  The person originally is no longer used at Oracle, so cannot be 100% certain that what happened.

Can someone confirm if this is the expected behavior for groups BOWL?

    Thank you

    Marjie

My answer to someone offline - you can add handlers for additional groups of the tool create group/add new members by clicking on the name of the Group and add another email address in the field "Group Manager email. It is the only way that someone else may have access to make changes to group member.

  • How I have queries about available groups?

    Hi all

We are working on a front-end server to create users, instead of using the user administration form. We want to create a dynamic list if our groups on a form, but we do not know where to get the list of groups of. We are on APEX 4.1.

Well, if I understand your question right, I think you're looking for these points of view:

    APEX_WORKSPACE_GROUPS

    APEX_WORKSPACE_GROUP_USERS

I used this SQL to find:

    select *
    from apex_dictionary
    where column_id = 0
    and apex_view_name like '%GROUP%'
