  • Cannot update Windows 7 with upgrade of Windows 8 so that I've already paid.

Earlier, I bought a Windows 8 Pro upgrade. Recently, I rebuilt my computer by using the Windows 7 installer that came with the PC (Home Premium). I now turn to the 8 Pro window using the key that I've already paid for.

When I use the Updgrade Wizard of Windows 8, it tells me that Windows 8 is not available in my area.

When I use the Windows 8.1 Upgrade Wizard, he asks me if I want to pay $100 + for win 8.1 or nearly $200 to win 8.1 Pro.

I want just to get my upgrade product key I bought already and get my life back.

Anyone know how I might be able to do this?

Thank you, Jayant Gupta, but none of the suggestions worked.

What I ended up doing was downloading a copy of Windows 8 on MSDN developers and this website accepted my installation key during an upgrade to windows 7.

So now I have an authentic installation of Windows 8 Pro and after a few rounds of updates to get to 8.1, I'll be all ready for 10.

    Thanks again.

There is no option to do a fresh install, the Windows 8.1 will be an update is available via the Windows store for current users of Windows 8.

If you wish, you can do a refresh after the upgrade.

    Or

You can use your product key Windows 8 existing if it is a retail upgrade license using the Windows 8.1 Upgrade Wizard to create the installation media again and do a custom install on this existing installation.

during the installation of windows 8, which upgraded the wizard asks to install now or install by creating media what the difference

When you install by creating media, allows to create a backup of a Virgin DVD USB or USB key installation files. (I recommend you do this in case you need to reinstall Windows 8 in the future).

If you choose to not, Windows 8 will be a non-media from your hard drive installation automatically.

Windows 8 simplifies the procurement process with an installer called Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant Web that makes it easy to download and create a local backup for future use. Digital distribution works this way, you download the installer, launch that and he will download Windows 8, the time it takes depends on the speed of your Internet connection ultimately. Microsoft noted that the Web Installer includes a sophisticated compression technology that downloads pieces in sections of 10 MB to ensure that its safe delivery. When you download the installer, the installer creates a folder called "WindowsESD" in the root of your drive C:\ (if you have multiple partitions that this case may be on another). From there, you will find a complete Windows disk image, you can burn it to a blank DVD and make your own physics, copy, or store it on a USB key.
