Request backup of SQL db vCenter

Hi all

I have separate the vCenter and its SQL on 2 VM.

I want to ask about the backup db SQL vCenter.

I know that the surest way to save the DB is stopped the vCenter first.

But I want to know, what happens if I don't stop the vCenter before saving the DB? It is safe in all?

I ask this question because I want to annex configuration for automatic backup of the DB of the vCenter.

Thank you in advance.

It depends on the backup method, generally with standard tools for backup, backup SQL DB its not required for vcenter clockwise rotation be down to take the backups.

What your vcenter DB backup plan? which tool you use to take backup of DB?

  • Customer Web and SQL to vCenter

I'm caught in a catch 22 and need some advice.

SQL Server vCenter use is hardware version 10 and setting of the material must be changed through the web client.  We tried adding hot 4 processors to put the server to 8 but then remembered that the OS is Standard and accepts that the 4 processors.  The web client doesn't let me do a hot remove to fall back to 4. So I say to myself, I need to close the virtual machine and then change the processors to 4.

The problem is that when I stop SQL server vCenters I can't do a lot of things inside the web client - such as see even the material of the box to bring SQL settings changes.  Of course if it wasn't Hardware version 10 I just connect to the host with the Windows Client and make the change.  This is obviously not an option here.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    My thoughts only are:

    1. put the Datacenter operating system (which we are allowed to) and let it use 8 CPUs

    2. stop the virtual computer and use converter stand alone to do a V2V and select a lower hardware version that the host can change and then make the changes with the Windows client that is connected to the host.

Some options are (with the virtual machine off):

    • use VMware Workstation 10 and connect to the ESXi host who currently hosts the SQL Server and change its settings.
    • manually edit the .vmx VM and either reduce the number of vCPUs by setting numvcpus = "4", or add cpuid.coresPerSocket = '2' which should present the 8-processor 4 processors dual-core for OS invited. Do not forget to change manually the .vmx file requires to reload, see VMware KB: reload a vmx file without removing the virtual machine to inventory

  • How to make a backup of sql database before upgrade to vSphere 4

Hi, I own a vcenter 2.5 running with microsoft sql server lite (supplied by binary vcenter)

What is the best practice to backup my DB before doing the upgrade?

Is there a risk to my host, because now, they run in 3.5

    Concerning

On your database server, open SQL Server Management Studio Express.  Connect to the SQLEXP_VIM database. List drop-down list of databases, click with the right button on VIM_UMDB, go to work, go to the backup. Note the backup location, make the desired changes, then click OK. Do the same for the VIM_VCDB. vCenter4 has no problem of ESX 3.5 server management, I have a mixed environment at the moment and it works fine. Keep in mind when you begin to update your virtual hardware version 7, you will no longer be able to vmotion for ESX 3.5 boxes.

  • Advanced Backup Agent SQL POS show all database

    Hi all

I use VDP Advanced 6.0 successfully, I installed the backup SQL on a 2012 SQL Server Agent and added permissions to NT BuiltIN system and it is currently showing all databases console backup of POS, I have another server which is installed SQL server 2008 and SQL management Studio 2012, but the problem is that it shows not all SQL Agent database I thought it was a permission problem, but after some research on the net I found an EMC forum by saying that it was because of wrong dll loading and it was loading the DLL for SQL 2012 then I ran the CMD:

first of all, I have renamed the dll of 2012 sql as suggested from the emc forum and rerun the cmd

the solution is to rename the dll, it's the solution in quotes:

The following DLL files are located in C:\Program Files\avs\bin (default install Avamar customer location).

    avsqlsmo11.dll

    avsqlsmo08.dll

    avsqlsmo.dll

When the SQL plugin detects SQL 2012, it loads avsqlsmo11.dll. It load avsqlsmo08.dll for avsqlsmo.dll for SQL 2005 and SQL 2008.

When you rename avsqlsmo11.dll, the client will then return to avsqlsmo08.dll. The customer will return to an earlier version when it cannot meet the DLL, it wants to take on version detection. If the client detects SQL 2008 even if SQL server is 2005, rename it avsqlsmo08.dll and it will load avsqlsmo.dll.

    and I run the cmd:

    C:\Program Files\avp\bin > avsql - operation = browse - verbose

    and the result is:

    C:\Program Files\avp\bin > avsql - operation = browse - verbose

  • SQL requirements VCenter

I'm confused about the use of an SQL database full instead of DB SQL construction that comes with VCenter / VSphere and it may be more related to my not being not not a DB SQL admin.  I want to use a SQL 2005 database documentation says we're 32 or 64 bits.  But the ODBC DSN connector must be a 64-bit DSN.  You can use a Connector ODBC 64-bit with a 32-bit SQL database server?  Thank you.

  • SQL and vCenter 4.0

I was looking through the documentation and I may have missed it but y at - it an array of compatible versions of SQL that can be used with vCenter 4.0?  I'm assuming that SQL 2000 removed the list because I'm having issues connecting databases to vCenter?

Be installed on vCenter forum.  SQL 2000 is not supported with vCenter 4.0 - page 10 - http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r40/vsp_compatibility_matrix.pdf

  • Feature request: backup settings and e-mail

I need a feature to back up and restore settings and emails. There may come a time that I need to recharge my system, and if I can just get a backup so I can restore it later, that would be great.

  • Time to request very diferent Sql-Server vs Oracle

Hi all, thanks for your time, I comment on my problem I have a query optimized, index and other runs immediately when the answer is a few records in SQL Server, such as Oracle, but when the result is large, for example, 20 000 records all time access to the data is very different. The query returns several areas (about 20) and some of them are of type Varchar 250 and some 2000 I understand here may be the problem, but is not because for similar results (20,000 records) run in 2 seconds and Oracle sql, but it responds little to have complete data takes about 30 seconds. The problem is really providing information in all these areas, because if the investigation it also but only returning a numeric field is done in 2 seconds. The tests that I did both through ODBC, in the toad as the own Oracle console on the server, is not driver problem or flow of data through the network, I'd like to think that it is a part of the settings I think that there is as much difference between Oracle and Sql. Make me can help you? PD. The databases are 10 ORACLE and SQL Server 2008

Honestly, I just create a SQL job to do the backup of the database and then simply leave netbackup backup your sql backup.  I did a post on how to make a backup of the database of Veeam, but the same thing applies to vCenter - it's just what I'd do...

  • Best practices for backup of vCenter device and ESXi hosts?

    Hello

I have a new VMware environment based on 5.5 ESXi and vCenter Server Appliance. A few questions:

    • What is the best practice to perform the backup of the vCenter Server Appliance? I set up the camera with the embedded SQL Express database.
    • It's recommended to backup the ESXi host or is it easier to any re - install failure?

    Best regards

    Thor-Egil

    Hello

You can use VMware VDP to backup your device of vCenter. It is included in essentials, standard, enterprise, and enterprise as well as licenses.

I won't have backups of ESXi servers. Restore the backup would take more time that the deployment of a new ESXi.Only thing, you may want to consider is to enable logging remotely, so you can see why the hosts failed.
