SQL requirements VCenter

I'm confused about the use of an SQL database full instead of DB SQL construction that comes with VCenter / VSphere and it may be more related to my not being not not a DB SQL admin.  I want to use a SQL 2005 database documentation says we're 32 or 64 bits.  But the ODBC DSN connector must be a 64-bit DSN.  You can use a Connector ODBC 64-bit with a 32-bit SQL database server?  Thank you.

  • Customer Web and SQL to vCenter

I'm caught in a catch 22 and need some advice.

SQL Server vCenter use is hardware version 10 and setting of the material must be changed through the web client.  We tried adding hot 4 processors to put the server to 8 but then remembered that the OS is Standard and accepts that the 4 processors.  The web client doesn't let me do a hot remove to fall back to 4. So I say to myself, I need to close the virtual machine and then change the processors to 4.

The problem is that when I stop SQL server vCenters I can't do a lot of things inside the web client - such as see even the material of the box to bring SQL settings changes.  Of course if it wasn't Hardware version 10 I just connect to the host with the Windows Client and make the change.  This is obviously not an option here.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    My thoughts only are:

    1. put the Datacenter operating system (which we are allowed to) and let it use 8 CPUs

    2. stop the virtual computer and use converter stand alone to do a V2V and select a lower hardware version that the host can change and then make the changes with the Windows client that is connected to the host.

Some options are (with the virtual machine off):

    • use VMware Workstation 10 and connect to the ESXi host who currently hosts the SQL Server and change its settings.
    • manually edit the .vmx VM and either reduce the number of vCPUs by setting numvcpus = "4", or add cpuid.coresPerSocket = '2' which should present the 8-processor 4 processors dual-core for OS invited. Do not forget to change manually the .vmx file requires to reload, see VMware KB: reload a vmx file without removing the virtual machine to inventory

  • Request backup of SQL db vCenter

    Hi all

I have separate the vCenter and its SQL on 2 VM.

I want to ask about the backup db SQL vCenter.

I know that the surest way to save the DB is stopped the vCenter first.

But I want to know, what happens if I don't stop the vCenter before saving the DB? It is safe in all?

I ask this question because I want to annex configuration for automatic backup of the DB of the vCenter.

    Thank you in advance.

It depends on the backup method, generally with standard tools for backup, backup SQL DB its not required for vcenter clockwise rotation be down to take the backups.

What your vcenter DB backup plan? which tool you use to take backup of DB?

  • SNMP Configurations require vCenter?

I am running vCenter on top a pair of cluster 2 ESXi hosts 4.1.0u3.  I have configured the Protocol SNMP configurations is vCenter to point to our appropriate receiver.

A few questions come to mind with this, can someone enlighten me please!

Although the SNMP configuration is applied in the vCenter settings, they need to be configured on each host ESXi?  If so, how it works?

On a separate scenario (has nothing to do with the above), I have 2 ESXi hosts running ESXi 4.1.0u3 - but they are not in a cluster and do NOT contain a vCenter Server.

How can I go about configuring SNMP for each of these individual ESXi hosts?

  • Fire of sql require separate memory allocation

    Hello

So I tried light sql and trying to put things up. I had a question on how data is managed in memory regarding the memory available for sqlfire.

First of all,-sqlfire has a default amount of memory allocated when we have a home server? I didn't notice settings during server startup to say he could use x amount of memory.

Also assume that I have 2 members in my cluster (running with 4 GB of memory available) and I have millions of lines that could not fit in available memory. Data would be saturated on the disk?

    See you soon

    -Imran

You can explicitly set the initial heap and max - heap for the server at startup. Sqlf server aid Fund

By default, lines are only in memory.

If you set the initial heap and max heap and there is no more than ability, you will get an exception. If you do not use these parameters, you run the risk of running out of memory server.

To outflank your tables, you must explicitly create the table with the configuration of overflow. Keys and indexes are still in memory even when overflow you.

  • vCenter and SQL 2005 Express on the same physical machine

I'm new on the VMware environment and am a little concerned about my VMware infrastructure and design.  I have 3 boxes physical accommodation 15 virtual servers.  I have a 4th server that hosts the database SQL and vcenter.  I am wondering what are my chances of having vCenter and SQL 2005 express installed on the same box?  That suggest VMware as best practices concerning this configuration?  If this configuration is ok, what are my options to protect myself in case the box with vCenter and the SQL database dies?  Thank you

VMware sets a limitation to 5 guests and 50 wen invited you use SQL Express. I run it with 6 guests and 48 guests (incl. models) on the same machine as the server vcenter. That's not what I want to keep and we will change to a standard SQL 2005 on a separate server from SQL (which we had with SQL 2000 and before VI3).

But I didn't have one problem with this configuration, again.

With both on the same server may lead to a conflict: SQL 2005 requires IIS but vCenter uses ports. So I installed it but disabled.

I think also that separating the two tracks faster that have it all on the same box.

  • vCenter Server 5.5 requires a reboot

    Hi all

We need to restart vCenter Server 5.5, and it is running on a physical server and also hosting DB SQL on the same physical server.

Please let us know what precautions to take before restarting the vCenter server.

    Kind regards

    Ajay

You can restart the vCenter server as you would any other server system.

Once the server is online. Verify SQL service, vCenter, all are running.

As you run SQL locally, then it would be preferable to set the delayed start for vCenter server service and vCenter management services.

While the SQL service start first, then the vCenter services.

as usual, you can take backup of SQL DB or windows system state backup, but this is not a sine qua non for vCenter reboot.

  • vCenter 5.0 U1 - SQL Cluster and Migration...

    Hi guys

    There are two topics...

Today, my client told me that they must move to another SQL Server vCenter DB who is the SQL Cluster of society... Since the code SQL of VC was in SQL Server standalone... this computer running SQL Server (one that has all the DBs now) is a SQL cluster...

so my questions are this walk to vCenter 5.0 U1 with SQL Cluster DB? I mean if the DB is moving to Cluster02 will vCenter will continue to work?

Is supported now? I know that it wasn't...

Secondly if it were taken in charge how can I move the SQL DB from my old SQL Server to the new?

    Thank you very much

BTW if it's Cluster SQL don't is not supported you mind citing a link here, because I think that is not supported, but another guy who's supported vmware says it's... and I need to prove to my client, I think it is not fair

    Thanks a lot guys

so my questions are this walk to vCenter 5.0 U1 with SQL Cluster DB? I mean if the DB is moving to Cluster02 will vCenter will continue to work?

Is supported now? I know that it wasn't...

Yes, it works and is fully supported (assuming you are using SQL Server is a database supported for vCenter 5.0U1) regarding the vCenter Service puts on its own an event, well, it's a sometimes.  Sometimes the vCenter service recovers on it own, sometimes it must be restarted manually.  It has been thus for as long as I can remember.

Secondly if it were taken in charge how can I move the SQL DB from my old SQL Server to the new?

  • Views - SQL/vCenter

    Hello

I had a few questions on the implementation of infrastructure of view...

    (1) recommended for SQL and vCenter on a single server?

    (2) I have a server VMware infrastructure already... should I create just the vCenter view here? I was always worried about hosting vCenter on the environment it is the host, but now it would be hosted on a separate environment...

    (3) everyone is how to set up on the other place?

    Thank you

    CS

There are several ways to go but from what I've seen allows to watch your questions one by one:

    (1) recommended for SQL and vCenter on a single server?

A: it depends on what size your deployment is. I think that if you use more than 50 virtual machines, so it is considered the best to go with another server for SQL. The full version of SQL uses a lot of memory.

    (2) I have a server VMware infrastructure already... should I create just the vCenter view here? I was always worried about hosting vCenter on the environment it is the host, but now it would be hosted on a separate environment...

A: this is what we do. We put the virtual center server in a different environment is managed.

    (3) everyone is how to set up on the other place?

A: for small test environments I / we put the SQL database on the virtual center server. In this case then who cares? Its ' a test. In the case of production, we use a dedicated SQL Server. Also, we place the virtual center server in a separate group.

    Hope it will be useful.
