Request to license Oracle Data Guard

Nice day! at all. I don't know if this is already asked before, but I would like to ask for your help regarding my inquiry.

We have an Oracle 10 g Database EE here in our company which is established in a RAC (2 nodes and 1 SAN). Of course, that are already approved.

We intend to implement the Oracle Data Guard.

Of course the Oracle Data Guard will run voluntarily for a disaster recovery, in the case that our CARS (especially the SAN) will crash, we would like to have a stand physically separated by our primary database server (stand by server is completely separate to our existing main server) server.

My questions are:

1. don't we have to take advantage of a new license for custody of data?
2. what other license should we acquire for the above settings?
3. we would have a separate Installation of Oracle database on the standby server?
4. If we have a named user license 150 on the primary database should purchase us a new license user named 150 for the confirmation Server?
5. are there other things I have to consider in what concerns the granting of licenses for our project?

OK, here's how my speailist license put, Data Guard as a product is free, but is not the database instance. A physical standby is a database, it must be so licensed, however the expert of the license indicates that licenses you buy for the execution of the physical standby can be ubtained at a substantially reduced rate as they would be called limited licenses. It's not data hold is the cost, it is the cost of an another database on another machine. According to you, current license, you can be covered however, you may not. Everything I say is call a specialist to license Oracle Metalink support, call the guy or gal who has sold you Oracle licenses or appeal and certified Oracle partner/reseller can help you with a specialist of the license and have a licensing discussion/examination before implementation. Oracle support is not those who understand the licenses and how this all works, he did this and like them, always thought that data guard and physical databases Eve were free and included and recently corrected, hard enough I might add.

    Hello

    Oracle Dataguard:

    1 primary and Standby Database must be the same. (But 11g, it supports Heteregenous Data Guard Configurations. Example: We can imeplement Oracle Data Guard between Oracle Linux 6.2 Server (x86_64) and Microsoft Windows 2008 Server R2 (x 64)

    2 oracle Database version should be same in source and target

    3. no additional license required for Oracle Data Guard to install.

    Oracle GoldenGate:

    1 operating system in the primary database and the Standby Database are not necessarily even.

    2. major databases and standby are not necessarily even. (Including database software).

    3 oracle GoldenGate Software license required in the Source code and database is target.

    AFAIK, you don't need to have a separate license for Data Guard. However, I would say that you call your Oracle representative.

  • Data Guard - allocation of licenses and other fundamental questions before setting it up.

    Hi all

    Please allow me to submit some questions about Oracle Data Guard.

    There are 2 databases 'authorized and ready ':

    -a single instance of the "alfa", Oracle Enterprise Edition 10.2 database,

    -"bravo", Oracle 10.2 Enterprise Edition, Real Application Clusters database

    I have to "align" congratulations to alfa on a daily basis, so that--in case of failure of the main 'alfa' site - recovery is possible change to the site "bravo."

    (1) even if we can afford a loss of data corresponding to the period little uttered at the end of the last daily alignment (no need to 'transactional' alignment between the two databases), I assume that the best approach to meet this need in terms of efficiency and manageability consists on two databases including in a Data Guard configuration.

    Am I wrong?

    (2) in particular, the physical implementation of the standby database must be preferred over logic, because that "simpler and faster" in this case. Am I wrong?

    (3) only the Data Guard configuration require

    (a) additional licenses?

    (b) additional material/software resources for host machines?

    (5) the release of two databases must be equal to the specific to the component version number (10.2.0.1, for example)? Or, for example, is a 10.2.0.1 able to work with a 10.2.0.3 db db in the Data Guard configuration?

    Thank you very much in advance!

    You have reason, physical hosting it good thing. For the most part, you will get impact with until or unless data loss because of some problems of network (or a configuration problem)

    (2) in particular, the physical implementation of the standby database must be preferred over logic, because that "simpler and faster" in this case. Am I wrong?

    Logical standby is a little different from the physical standby mode

    Data features come with Enterprise Edition - perhaps for the active database "cost of the additional license.

    Do you mean by reliable?

    It will be permanent if you apply via dgmgrl database pending:

    Change the property set of database my_standby_db Binding = "optional."

    See the detailed database my_standby_db

    You must ask it also on the primaries for the cases of change of role, but for now, you need to change it for the day before to take effect.

    If the archivelogs can be deleted are beeing shipped in standby mode.

    Making the optional standby destination will prevent them from beeing deleted primary until shipped it standby after the host is again.

  • Reader only a physical standby Clock Data Guard?

    Hi all

    We try to use TimesTen 11.2.2.4.1 as a memory cache read-only for a 11.2.3.0.7 on Linus RedHat 6.3 Oracle schema, all using Oracle Data Guard to replicate the Oracle instance through geographically remote sites. At each site, we would like to have two instances of TT, synchronization with the local instance of Oracle 11 g. It works very well against the master DB, but TT agents will be able to synchronize against physical standby instances?

    The problem, seems, is that the agent of TT uses structures dedicated in the master Oracle (related to the grid of cache), instance that will be replicated to instances of Eve. Is TT agent able to use the read-only, structures to complete replication synchronization, or is this unworkable approach? What would be your advisor as a way to do this?

    Thanks for your help,

    Chris

    No, I'm afraid that will not work and is not supported. We support the use of groups of READONLY and AWT cache in collaboration with Data Guard in the following configuration (documented in the Guide of Cache TimesTen IMDB):

    1 data Guard is configured as synchronous physical standby

    2. all the caches of TT run against Oracle DB

    3. in the event of a failover of Data Guard, TT hiding can be migrated to run against the DB who now has beed promoted active to standby

    It is the only supported configuration.

    Kind regards

    Chris

  • Set - up Data Guard

    Hi all

    Platform - RHEL 6, Oracle 11 g 2.

    My main server is new material with more space and memory. The data files are spread over several mount points. Memory - 16G
    Consider installing an Oracle Data Guard 11 GR 2 on an old test server only. 3G memory. Due to lack of space we can not have so much as a production mount points.

    My question is can I install Data Guard in this limitation on my test server. How it will map with mount points in the production system. ?

    Is there a good document on this. ?

    user13355115 wrote:

    Will be the memory low result of Eve in any problem, such as performance...?

    There's not a lot of worries about performance. Because no operation of reading and writing , so total RAM is 3 GB, make sure it has that no other applications are running, of course with SGA minimum configuration also standby can work.

    If you want to convert it as primary use as Production, then maybe CMS is not enough, but to run just on standby, it's nice. No problems.

  • 100% ram used on Data-Guard

    Hello

    We test our application with Oracle data guard.
    Is version of Oracle 11 g R2 (11.2.0.2)
    The configuration of data-guard is a primary and a physical standby server.
    Both servers have 16 GB of RAM. It is set on an ESX Server as two virtual machines.
    Each vm has two processors with a speed 2127,902 MHz
    OS is Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server version 5.5 (Tikanga)
    It's an arch bit x86_64 machine.

    The problem we see is that the consumption of RAM is almost 100%. (97%)
    Earlier, the RAM has 4 GB, believed is not enough and went to 16 GB after we found that same 8 GB is not enough.
    Even after setting the RAM 16 GB, entire memory was used.
    The demand for good results, the answers are quick enough.
    On average, there are 12000 inserts per minute in the database.

    The CPU usage is about 25%.

    We are looking to reduce the consumption of memory less than 80% so that if other applications must be run on the Data-Guard allows him to run or use nearly 100% of memory during the peak or abnormal conditions.

    Hello

    on Linux, high mem use is normal. Linux uses all the memory cache of the drive. You can compile this program to prove.

    #include
    #include
    #include
    #include

    int main(int ac, char **av)
    {
            long int n,m,i;
            long delay;
            char *buf;

            if(ac < 3) {
                    printf("Usage: %s  \n",av[0]);
                    exit(1);
            }
            sscanf(av[1],"%d",&n);
            sscanf(av[2],"%d",&delay);
            m=n*1024*1024;
            buf=malloc(n*1024*1024);
            // for(i=0;i

    and run it as follows:
    . 4000 10 a.out

    It will affect 4000 MB of ram 10 seconds. You'll see that once it's over, you have 4 000 MB of free ram. After awhile, this amount will be lower that linux will do IO operations.

    Dear user10260925,

    The documentation that you read is reliable but not enough.

    The Oracle can handle the archivelog directory and know that you are eligible for deletion. Stuff you posted here was derived from the books online and is supported and can be used when the Oracle knows and manages the archivelogs. This is simply called the flash recovery area. Please read the FRA at this very moment.

    Under the personal component normal circumstances in the industry use a few scripts to achieve on backup archivelog deletion.

    Here's a useful example to you;
