Resizing disk partitions.

I removed two unused partitions on my hard drive. Now I have C:\, D:\ (original image) and 2 spaces of the same size as the partitions that I deleted. One is not entitled 'allocated' and the other 'free '. I would like to combine the two in a partition with the combined size of the 2 I have deleted, but when I try to create a new partition of one of them, their size is limited by the size of the old partitions. Is it possible to combine the non allocated and free spaces in a new larger partition? Thank you. ... Jim

Tom...

Thanks for your comments. I am able to create a (E:\) partition out of unallocated space, but can't locate 'disk management' to try to resize to take advantage of the free space. How do you get the drive management? I use Vista 64 Home Premium.

  • Resize Disk Partition problem

I'm trying to remove a partition on a HARD internal disk and place the unused disk space in C: drive.  I currently have two partitions C: and D:.  The D: partition was initially used for recovery purposes, but is now empty.  The problem I have is when I go to disk Management, it's that the partition d: is located to the left of the C: partition (I guess that this was done by the manufacturer.  Therefore, even if I delete the partition to the unallocated space, I can't even extend C left since extend cannot be used after the C: partition.  I tried to use diskpart.exe, but have had no success with that either.  I tried Gparted boot disk for resize/move, but when I try to apply I get an error and nothing happens.  Any help would be appreciated.

You will not be able to do it, because the disc was encrypted by OEM making it to prevent the violation of copyright or corruption of files. You will need a third party app to save your data and repartition the entire disk.

  • Can't resize external backup Time Machine in the hard disk partition

I have a Seagate Expansion to drive 3 that I use for storing files as well and Time Machine. Initially when I set up the drive, I allocated 350GB for the partition that I use with Time Machine.

I use a 256GB MacBook Pro and Time Machine is now advising me constantly backup capsule is short of space. I have 2 questions:

    1. Disk utility does not allow me to resize the partition of Time Machine (I can only reduce the size using resize controls). Also, I can't delete the partition, because the minutes signed is grayed out (see screenshot) - However, I am able to erase this partition. What can I do to resize (and expand) this partition, or delete it and create a larger partition for use with Time Machine?
    2. What is the best size to send to the Time Machine partition in order to keep my Mac saved 256 GB?

    Thanks in advance!

A drive that is mounted or shared may present as "Busy" that could prevent resizing.

Try to disassemble the disc (with the assembly/disassembly button in disk utility) and see if it works better. Then mount it again before leaving the disk utility, or do a reboot to mount again.

Disk utility (El Capitan): partitioning a physical disk

    'Expand volume '.

If you have several volumes on a device, and one of them is running out of space, you will be able to expand without losing the files it contains.

To enlarge a volume, you must delete the volume that comes after him on the device, and then move the end point of the volume you want to enlarge in the freed space. You cannot expand the last volume on a device. »

  • How could resize this partition in disk utility? (see image)

I want to resize the partition selected, but I can't drag it to the bottom.  Any way to resize?

Your screen capture, you must delete the partition OSX 10.9. The space would be free and you can then develop your OS x 10.10 partition or create a new one from the free space. The only one of these two who seem to be able to resize is the OSX 10.9 partition because it has the grab bar (lower-right) and free space further to slide down.

  • Can not resize the partition on the Satellite A100-998

    Hello
I am owner of toshiba satellite A100-998 with 200 GB hard drive. By default there is only 1 partition on the HARD drive when I try to resize this partition and create another 8 partition magic shows me error that it cannot write to the boot sector and it fails. I didn't install any software on this computer and it has the latest version of the bios.

Ranish partition Manager displays the same error.
I don't know what the problem is because I've done similar operations on multiple computers with all the problems.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

    Hello

I also use the magic of 8 Partitions for creating and management of simple partitions on the HARD disk.
But I wonder about the size of your HARD drive. As I know the Partitions Magic 8 does not support 200 GB HARD drive. I didn t to test but the partitions on the manufacturing site manual says it does not support.

However, sometimes, I had similar problems with my 80 GB HARD drive. The simple solution was to defragment single partitions.

I put t know if it will help you because of you HARD drive size, but you can try it.

  • NB300 disk partition: I can allocate more space to (c) and less (d :)

I can reduce the volume (D :) thus creating an unallocated volume, but could not increase volume (c) of the latter.
Is this all just impossible or would I need to use a special tool?
In which case I can not allocate more space to (c), can I use the empty space to (d) of my own files?

    Hello

You can resize the partitions with Paragon partition manager, but you need to know if resize the C partition, the hard disk (F8 on starup) image recovery utility, will not be available. And 1 point, you must back up all files before partitioning, because sometimes it can be wrong and you cannot start Windows.

  • Satellite P300 - question about HARD Disk Partition

    Hello.

I just bought a P300-1 Satellite has very nice portable 8. Everything has been restored to the original state. The thing is, I'm sure someone has resized the partition of HARD drive on the disk "D". It has a 160 GB hard drive, but the "D" drive is showing only 54 GB. I would like to reduce the size to give me maximum space on the 'C' drive but worried that it might affect the "HDD Recovery" folder that exists on this subject.

Any help asap would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you very much

Create recovery DVDs using Toshiba Recovery creator tool. After doing this, you can do with disk partitions you want.
One day, if you want to reinstall Vista and have the factory settings, you can use this created DVD facilities.

Please note: before installation of Vista drive HARD whole lance and ancient structure of the partitions is deleted. Data back up are required.

  • Cannot resize the partition to the desired size?

I'm trying to resize a partition in the C drive of 15 GB and another one to 15 GB. However it gives me a value of maximum shrinkage of 8160 MB. I started to have only a maximum reduction of 79 MB value, but after disabling the system restore, run the Disk Cleanup Wizard, and the deactivation of page files I was able to get to 8160 MB. I have a 289 GB HDD with 137 GB free. I don't understand why it's only allowing me to reduce approximately 8 GB since I was 137 GB free. Any ideas?

  • System recovery HARD disk partition

    Hello

I have an ASUS P50IJ laptop computer with a partition for operating system for most of my things (download, photos, etc.) and a DATA partition for the system recovery. I don't have that left a lot of space in the partition of the BONE (OS partition is about 75 GB of storage and DATA partition is approximately 209GB).

I wonder just what is the purpose of the DATA partition. What is a point system stored in the recovery partition? IfI deleted data stored on this partition it would change anything on my laptop?

If it's a system restore point, I don't use system restore not much, and if I create a system restore point, I always burn it to a CD. So if I deleted the DATA partition, I still would be able to run the system restore and use an image on a CD?

I wonder just what is the purpose of the DATA partition.

-> Partition data was created by the people who set up your machine.

What is a point system stored in the recovery partition?

-> Each partition uses its own folder to store its files from system restore.

IfI deleted data stored on this partition it would change anything on my laptop?

-> What data did you remove?

If it's a system restore point...

->, You cannot move the system restore points. Windows will not let you.

If I create a system restore point, I always burn it to a CD.

-> Exactly how do you do that? You may be thinking of the Image system data?

If it was my machine I would select one of the following methods:

    • Use the native Disk Manager or third-party disk manager to resize my partitions.
    • Use a single script to move my libraries (for example, My Documents, my music, etc.) for the data partition.
  • Resize a partition for recovery to the original format?

A few months ago, I installed an SSD (512 GB) in my laptop after the HARD (640 GB) using Acronis Disk cloning.  In time, I have not noticed that the process reduces the size of the D: partition recovery of 22.3 GB GB 19.9 or the real used space in the partition.  Now, I keep getting a warning not enough disk space on recovery drive.  I also just upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10.

I can resize this partition to original size to add 2 GB without affecting the data (there is plenty of room on the C: partition?  If Yes, what is the easiest way?  The recovery of the DVD discs that I burned play the same goal the recovery partition to dismiss the recovery partition?  If so, how to remove the partition recovery or at least stop these messages?  Thanks for your thoughts...

The recovery partition must not be used to store data. It is for this reason that it should not have a drive letter. You can now launch disk management (diskmgmt.msc), right-click on the recovery partition, and then remove the drive letter. This get rid of the unwanted (and inappropriate) message in an elegant way.

  • the hard disk partition

Walk in which I installed windows is running out of space. It has crippled the performance of my computer

I have hard time to do the partition of my drive.

Please show me the way to do it.

I assume you mean to resize your partition or ghost your current drive on another drive.

What is the total size of the hard drive?

What is the size of the partition you have Windows installed on?

You can find files that might be wasting space that are no longer needed.  Microsoft disk cleanup (cleanmgr.exe) provides at least some basis in first to clean up the files.

Often users have of many "Windows Error Reporting" and size of memory/application dump files that can be considerably.

  • In Win7 1 TB HARD disk partitioning

    Hello

I just bought a SAMSUNG laptop with 1 TB hard drive, and the operating system is Win 7 HomePremium.
The hard drive contains a partition C with 907 GB of space, including 860 GB of it is free. In addition, a recovery partition which is 23,57 Go.
When I try to do the partition from free space on the C drive, the disk management program shows me:
Total size before shrink in MB: 929630
Size of space available in MB reduction: 458183
which means that half of my hard drive can be partitioned, although many more space is free.
Could you please tell me what is the problem and how to solve it.
    Thanks in advance

Try to use a third party program to partition the drive:

Download Easeus at the following link

EASEUS Partition Master Home Edition - http://download.cnet.com/Easeus-Partition-Manager-Home-Edition/3000-2248_4-10863346.html

Proceed with the installation of Easeus:

Click Next, follow the easy on-screen instructions.

Once the installation is finished, click on finish

Click go to the main screen

Select the drive you want to resize in partition window

Drag the button until you have an amount of disk space to install Windows 7 you want, and then release.

Click on apply to apply the changes that you just made.

    Click Yes
