  It's okay, this isn't something that you can query the database. The financial Department should know what your organization purchased. Or on the other side, this can be provided by your side the Oracle account manager.

• Problem restarting Oracle Linux 5.6 after adding Swap space

  People,

  Hello. I use Oracle Linux 5.6 on top 3 VMPlayer.

  Because of OS Swap space is 0 KB, I add some Swap space to the root user with the following command:

  If DD \u003d/dev/zero of = / swapfile bs = 1024 count = 2097152

  mkswap /swapfile

  The swap space is added. Then I add the following line to the file "/ etc/fstab:

  /swapfile swap swap defaults 0 0

  Then I reboot Oracle Linux 5.6 in order to take effect. But Oracle Linux 5.6 cannot restart. During the restart process, the error message appears:

  "check the file system error...". »

  Press Ctrl + D to continue.

  Repair file system. #

  Then I login inot file system and open the file "/ etc/fstab ' to remove the following line:

  /swapfile swap swap defaults 0 0

  But the file/etc/fstab is read only and cannot be changed.

  I don't understand what causes not Oracle Linux 5.6 can not restart.

  Any folk that understand how to solve the problem to restart Oracle Linux 5.6?

  the easy way is to use a Linux LiveCD and remove the bad fstab entry

  so I just add a second disk to the virtual machine and use it as a swap space

  On the license, you must check with your management of extraction for the purchase document. However, you can find out what components are available to your database of the option$ v.

  
  SQL>select parameter,value from v$option; 
  

  Now, if you want to find how many times (or once ever) your installed components used, you can check with following

  
  SQL>select NAME,DETECTED_USAGES from DBA_FEATURE_USAGE_STATISTICS; 
  

  DETECTED_USAGES is the only component specific number is used

  Perhaps the part of the sentence "and * more * come with a developer license" (underlining) leaves some questions that some products may not be covered. I don't know what would these products but I've never seen someone ask the commodity database.

  Regarding editing, you... once again, it's what you want to achieve. If you want to learn sql/plsql from the point of view of the developer, one of them will do. If you want to learn from a DBA perspective, you want to the Enterprise edition.

  Please explain on oracle named user licenses. If it is equal to the maximum number of different patterns in my database, including default oracle users as sys, System sysaux etc. Or the maximum number of sessions connected simultaneously to the database? And how I can apply this license to my database, suppose I have machine core with Oracle Enterprise edition and bought 25 oracle named user for her licenses.

  No, you are allowed to use it if you have an oracle database.
  Oracle Fail Safe is not an Oracle database option, but it is a plugin that feature included with every Oracle 11 g and 10g Oracle for Windows 2003 R2 and Windows 2008 license.

  I don't know how you're connected. I'm guessing ssh - then just connect as privileged user and run the command as specified in the RFSO. If you are connected via the GUI. You must open a shell to run this command from the command line. I don't know your envionrment to say.

  Best place to start will be an inventory of the server database. If you have installed a Grid control and all the database servers have agents installed and grid will give you all the information you're looking for.

What if all you want to do is to learn the db and its concepts, why you are bothered about license that you will not use this database on any machine except your own laptop and not for any other purpose except learning, isn't it? If the answer is Yes, the OTN license will be enough for you. The only time where you want to be worried about license if you have plans to use the software downloaded for commercial purposes. Anyway, if you really want to use only a licensed copy, you can get one, and the least expensive option would be to use a Personal Edition license. Case of https://shop.oracle.com for the same thing.

  Hi, I installed 11 GR 2 grid for a standalone environment Infrastructure and I ASM upward and run, but I have a few questions

  Q1. In a standalone environment, I assume we mean that the ASM instance is the single instance rather than grouped together instead of talking about end user (customers ASM) databases on the same server as the instance of the ASM?

  Q2. Done Alternatively the term stanadalone (and therefore being alternative - grouped) refer more that ASM instance is done it also refer to storage in ASM using autonomous databases (clients of ASM) end user that is made check-

  i. only the ASM instance

  II. the storage used by ASM to ASM customers

  III. i. and ii.

  Now that the ASM is running on my standalone server, the following processes are running

  Grid1 10339 1 0 16:10?        00:00:04 /home/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/grid/bin/ohasd.bin restart

  Grid1 10431 1 0 16:12?        00:00:05 /home/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/grid/bin/oraagent.bin

  Q3. What are these processes? I presume that oha is the name of generic processes for high availability Oracle? What is evm?

  Q4. Is an ohasd a generic process name which means something different depending on whether you installed 11 GR 2 Grid independent Infrastructure 11 GR 2 cluster environment that is Network Infrastructure

  Stanadalone = ASM + Oracle Restart

  ASM + Oracle Clusterware = cluster environment

  So is the process of ohasd in both environments, i.e. is a generic process name but in the stanalone is Oracle Restart, whereas it is the Oracle Clusterware cluster? Or Oracle Clusterware appears as a different process name?

  Q5. What determines what Oracle Restart actually starts? In my case, it also seems to start the listener my ASM instance requires but does not start the instance ASM itself. How can I add / remove things of what Oracle Restart actually starts?

  Q6. Yet when I manually stop the listener (via SQlPlus), it restarts automatically - if it is not if it is included in Oracle restart?

  Q7. Wouldn't not normal to also Restart Oracle actually start your ASM instance for you - if yes, how this is done?

  Hello Jim,

  Everything seems to be configured correctly in your environment. The reason for the upcoming ASM instance does not automatically when the server is restarted is because you stopped the DSO before restarting the server.

  Start the resource ASM and restart the environment without stopping the DSO when starting the server, IM should automatically display the ASM instance

  The same is true for the restart of GI as well. If the ASM (or for the love of that no matter what resource) was arrested before the stop of the pile of GI, the resource will not be launched automatically at startup of the GI stack you will have to manually raise this resource
