Restore bookmarks in El Capitan
How can I restore bookmarks in El Capitan
You can only restore the entire file of bookmarks to a previous state. It is not possible to restore the individual bookmarks.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select, then copy it to the Clipboard by pressing Control-C key combination:
~/Library/Safari
Quit Safari.
Select
Go ▹ go to folder
in the Finder menu bar. Paste it into the text box that opens by pressing Command + V, then press return.
Should open a folder window. Restore the file named "Bookmarks.plist" in this folder from a previous backup of the changes unwanted.
If you don't have such a backup, but the Favorites are still present on an iOS (iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch) device that synchronizes with iCloud, then see below.
Save your iOS devices. Turn off sync iCloud Safari on all devices except those. Quit Safari and delete the bookmarks on the Mac, and then enable synchronization Safari on it. Launch Safari. Bookmarks synchronization of your iOS device.

I used Firefox as my default browser and my computer has been unexpectedly restored to factory setting. Is it possible to restore my bookmarks?
Was it the kind of refresh/restoring Windows that creates a folder named
C:\Windows.old
In this case, it probably contains a copy of your previous settings.

Cannot restore bookmarks after update
Hello. Yesterday I updated my Firefox, and it did not import my favorites. I've saved in JSON format. In the menu of the restoration, he back all previous restore points, but when I try to restore/import, none of them, the browser crashes and I get a message similar to the one that I join you. I tried everything I read in the forums... delete the places.sqlite file, adding to the maintenance of places & Auto-Sort Bookmarks. I tried a system restore to go back to my old version (which works, but favorites are gone now and the problem persists)... nothing is solved the problem and I am very sad to lose the value of my few years of bookmarks. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Or if you have a * ton * of bookmarks - have you tried just pressing "Continue" whenever it appears? Maybe your computer needs time to gnaw on the data.
Several times when I get this error message, my computer must just still a minute or two to reflect on what he's trying to do.

The restore bookmark function has failed. Bookmarks has not changed.
I lost a group of bookmarks under the heading called HANDY and I used the restore function, but it did not work. I tried several days of backups, but none of them have changed bookmarks showing.
Note that the current versions of Firefox to show the number of bookmarks in a JSON backup in name of: xxx in bookmarks-#-#-# _xxx.json, so you can see if there is a backup with several bookmarks (different number of numbers).

Hello
I recently had to restore my computer and I decided that I would save my favorites before that to save me the trouble to add all. I followed one of the guides on this site and has my backup file ready to go, but when I went to import/restore them, it wouldn't take the file that has been done.
After you follow the steps in the guide, Firefox has created a "Unix executable file. First I tried to import this file, then I tried to restore this file via Firefox. After this does not work, I just double click on the file and it opens a terminal window (I'm on OS X, incidentally) and spits out text then a mistake.
After that, I just right click the file and tried to open it in Firefox. I found myself with a bunch of text will on the side of the screen and after scrolling for a bit, I could find some URL to my bookmarks in the code, if bookmarks are here.
What can I do to restore these?
If the file is a long line so it's probably a JSON backup and in this cae you just rename the file and add the .json file extension.
A JSON backup begins with: {"title": "","id": 1, "dateAdded": }

Internet Explorer Favorites are intact, but Firefox bookmarks disappeared. Shady shot from Microsoft!
OK, so I found my backups. That's how I did it.
1 make sure you can see hidden files/folders - in Explorer in Windows 8, click view, and then make sure that "hidden object" is checked
2. go to:
\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\c9i1rqwk.default\bookmarkbackups C:\Windows.old\Users\ < yourusername >3. I copied the newest .json file from here to my office
4. open Firefox, then open the bookmarks library
5. click on import and backup, and then restore, then "Choose file". Identify the .json your desktop file.
That's what me sorted. If all goes well it can help you.

I am under W7 and 14.01 FF. My FF admin account works fine. My work account has problems. In the past I was able to get the bookmarks to return but not this time.
The favorites were there yesterday morning and disappeared in the afternoon. Nothing has changed between the AM and PM to my knowledge. I tried every solution that I could find online but still no bookmarks.

Version 3.6.17 last night I noticed that a particular section of bookmark, I use a lot was missing so I tried to restore the bookmarks of a day old backup Firefox has automatically done for me. I got the error "Failed to process the backup file." So I tried each of the 4 other files listed backup, which produces the same error. The manual backup I have is a few months old if I'd prefer restore a recent backup. Is there a way to make one of these json backup work files? Today, I reinstalled FF with the same result. If I can not restore one of these files, then is there a way to import only the part of the saved exported bookmarks I need instead of importing all the old bookmarks file? Thank you, Jerry
One possible cause is a problem with the places.sqlite file that stores the bookmarks and history.

Disk space lost after the restoration of Bootcamp - El Capitan
Hello
I've created a Partition of Windows 49 GB using Bootcamp and then tried to restore the partition after. To restore the partition that I got a message error "your drive could not be restored to a single partition. Since then, I have "lost" the 49 GB of space.
I checked the similar thread, but I'm not sure on what to do to fix this. Outputs of suggested controls are as follows:
I can see on the screenshot on the bottom the 49GB, but do not know how to release.
I tried running in Recovery Mode and diskutil repairDisk disk0 disk utility but this has not resolved.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thank you
You will temporarily lose the HD recovery. Please backup OS X.
1. merge the HD recovery in OS X. The order of the disk slices is essential in the following command.
diskutil mergePartitions jhfs + "Macintosh HD" disk0s2 disk0s3
2. in disk utility, expand the new OS X partition to cover the entire disc.
3. re-install OS x and recover your Recovery HD.
If you are comfortable with the Terminal commands, then
1 backup OSX and all of your files - use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac - Apple Support .
2. boot into Internet recovery (CMD + Opt + R) - OS X: on OS X Recovery - Apple Support .
3. click on Utilties-> disk utility and erase your entire internal drive.
4. restoration of OSX and your files - use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac - Apple Support .
This requires another external drive that can accommodate TM backup - backup disks that you can use with Time Machine - Apple Support .
