Restore OSX 10.6.4

short story back. I recently acquired a mid 2010 Mac Pro "eight Core" 2.4

Mac Pro 5.1 - A1289-2314-2

The previous owner wiped the hard drive and installed Win 7 Professional (why I have no idea).

But I try to restore to mac OSX and bought a 10.6.3 Snow Leopard disk from apple. It will not install this OS. Through some research I found that it left the factory with 10.6.4 and won't install weaker, as the 10.6.3 I have nothing.

So my question is this. What are my options to restore the OS mac on this tour. Is their a download that I can get to 10.6.4, or do I need to contact apple to the subject?

You can buy 10.6. Trying to call Apple and tell them that you need the original provided with the Mac disks.

    My recommendation is

    1. back up OSX by using Time Machine - use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac - Apple Support . The disks that you can use with TM are Backup that you can use with Time Machine - Apple Support .

    2. boot into Internet recovery - OS X: on OS X Recovery - Support Apple (CMD + Opt + R).

    3. clear your internal drives. Use the utilities-> disk utility to erase your internal drives. If this does not work, we can manually rebuild the disks.

4 restore OSX using the links in step 1.

    5. run SMC/NVRAM reset without any connected external storage.

    6. run the wizard of BC and install Windows.

  • Text on a path not to export in PDF format

This announcement, I'm just in case there is an easy solution, but I suspect that the architecture of a particular CS4 file is damaged in a weird way that only affects exporters text on a path in PDF format.

Most of the examples of text on a path in this document will not export to PDF, and I have a suspicion that the problem may occur only after a certain number of page - but that is not confirmed. Tried anything that I don't gets me the text in an exported PDF, and that includes almost all the possible combinations of the export settings by changing the layers, masking layers, restoration OSX and reloading CS4.

One thing can work: as a test, when I moved a page to a new document, text on a traced is exportable. I didn't have no more in that direction immediately, in the case where there is a difficulty that is easier than moving 813 pages at once, which crashes CS4 when I tried it.

    Any suggestions?

  • Mac OSx Sierra Time Machine WD my cloud

Since upgrading to Mac OSX Sierra my Macbook Pro and Macbook Air are not capable of doing Time Machine back Ups to a WD MyCloud drive that is connected to our router.

We have updated the firmware on the WD My Cloud drive to the latest version and contacted WD on this problem, so far they have not come with a solution to the problem.

If you open Time Machine preferences and then observe what happens, by hitting 'Back Up Now' systems do "Looking to save the disc" then "Preparing backup" then stop and then go back to the status of 'rest' without backup anything to the top at all. It is the same on both machines. You can see here: Time Machine Back Up My Cloud

Notice how the drive icon changes to the point where it stops working and then goes to the other drive which is a USB.

Now, to complicate the issue further... an iMac connected via Ethernet to the router can go back to the My Cloud drive perfectly as before. If Apple changed something with the wireless protocols I think but that?

    Hi stevefrompembury,

Thanks for posting in the Community Support from Apple! I understand that your or your Mac back up Time machine since the update. Backups are certainly crucial to ensure that your data remains secure, so I'm happy to offer some suggestions.

You have already tried a few milestones. I recommend you take a look through this article so that you have covered all the steps mentioned, including the section titled 'Control your readers': If you can not back up or restore your Mac with Time Machine

  • upgrade to OSX 10.12 Sierra 10.6.8

I have a MacMini running 10.6.8 mid-2010 Core2Duo. Only 2 GB of RAM, but I bought more (went wild and bought 2 4 GB 'cards' to replace the two original things from 1 GB) and install it after I do the upgrade (or did I miss something on the order of things... because I don't think that the new RAM is recognizable to OS 10.6.8... seems I read that somewhere) (, perhaps to OWC in descriptions of fleas?)

I'm following the discussion 6271steps, the upgrade to 10.7 and above. I think it of a little too complete and covers many too on the ground which may not be suitable to my situation. I need to do this because 10.6.8 browsers are supported by less and less my online services (bank account, doctor, etc.) ... and of course, I need at least 10.10 download, install and use Google Chrome, if I want to access these accounts, for example.

I'm hanging installation 10.7 Lion - point I paid for and downloaded the installer, so I'm ready to press the button install. I have two independent full backups on external drives, as recommended (disconnected).

    1. what happens next? The installation program will erase my hard drive to install the new OS? (There seems to be an indication that may arise - in this article - but it's not clear to me).

If so, I guess I'll have to use one of these backups to get all my data, files, any return on the Mini?

    2. after that, the discussion indicates I'll need to upgrade from 10.7 to 10.7.5 until I can go to Sierra; is this fair? In the discussion 6271, there is the following:

«Note, as the last written of this trick, only available to 10.6.6 upgrades are 10.6.7, 10.6.8 10.7, and take up to 10.7 10.7.5 Combo, Supplemental updateand Security Update 2014-004 10.7.5 followed by 10.7.5 Bash update.»  Available only to 10.6.8 upgrades are 10.7, 10.8. »

3 the above quote does that I have the "combo, additional import" AND ALL THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES before I can install Sierra? (In other words, 4 additional "installed" after installation of 10.7, just preparation to take the giant step Sierra?)

    4. I understand, is that the only options available for me at the moment are:

    Upgrade to 10.7

    Update to 10.7.5

Upgrade to 10.12 (no intermediate OS is available is never again?)

(Reason for asking, is that the original discussion 6271 has several statements to be able to upgrade to 10.8 and more than 10, 7 - see #2 above, but I thought that Apple has stopped supporting 10.8, 10.9 and 10.10, 10.11 and don't allow anyone who has not already install.)

    5. an another link/rabbit Hutch in article 6271 says I need to install an update of the firmware to 10.6.8 if I want to 'internet restoration/command-R' * 10.7 (if something goes wrong, I guess, in all of the above steps). This document (article HT202313-"Computers that can be upgraded to use the Internet OSX recovery") provides links to the required firmware update. What do need me, or the installation of 10.7 and up to reduced Sierra negate the need for such an approach? (telling me I CAN do something without being clear, if I REALLY NEED to take this step, confuses me.)

    6. I have the original installation discs for my MacMini, but I do not remember if it came with OSX 10.6.4 or had 10.6.8 when I bought it. I can't find a 10.6.8 updater anywhere. Would not be "restoring the internet" average I would be taken back to 10.6.x when I used the original disks; If so, I would be able to return to 10.7 at all, or which would force to buy me a new computer?

In summary, it would be a great help for me if I had a list of the steps that I really have to take to get my computer to use the latest versions of Chrome, Safari, and Firefox, in the order that they should be made, without all the links not applicable and sidetrips that don't apply to other versions of OSX servers or people who use Java to develop stuff...

    * (question 5 above: this quote is from "Doc 2465 #Eight"-)

    "

Q: I have an old 2011 Mac and command-R won't let me restore of Mac OS X 10.7, or later on the internet.  Is there a way to allow him to do?

A: Yes.   Update the firmware, as evidenced by this article:computers that can be upgraded to use OS X Internet Recovery - Apple Support

To ensure you have the right firmware first, see this tip:

What should I do if I find a used without the original CD machine?

Really sorry to be so needy, but it is a great leap forward and I need to be able to use a current browser and better protected than 10.6.8 Mac OSX... and well, I want to do things.

Thanks for that help you can provide!

    1. it will not be unless a problem arises.

2 installation of the Mac App Store of the Lion version upgrades the computer to 10.7.5.

    3 No.

    4. you can switch to Mountain Lion or El Capitan(but only from 10.6.8) If you wish.

    5. This step is important only if you replace the hard drive, or a problem with the drive itself (not just the operating system).

    6. without the recovery of the Internet system, you will need to use a disk or an external drive in the case of #5.

  • Restoration of the Internet does not

    Hello

So I'll try to get back a mid 2010 Macbook Pro originally OSX from Yosemite. I updated the firmare EFI to enable recovery of the internet, but it doesn't seem to work. It starts at startup (command + option + r) - the world turns, take five minutes to load. But after that, he will not to the choice of language as I saw in the video tutorials. Instead, it is the emblem of apple which lasts 10 minutes or so to load, what I'm met with the covering Panel.

Other notes: typical restore mode proposes to reinstall Yosemite, while the above method offers to install El Capitan.

There is no option to install original OSX, which I assume is Lion or snow leopard, etc.

I tried to boot from a USB key the Mavericks. It loads the recovery screen, as well as the offer to install the Mavericks, but it does not work - probably because the Mavericks wasn't on it always if it is unrecognized.

I came to the conclusion that there is a problem with the stage of recovery of the internet, which is a disappointment because it's really the only way that I know that I could get back the old version. Is there a way to correct the re-establishment of the internet?

At the present time I install El Capitan, in the hope it fixed somehow magically internet recovery bit, since I tried so many other things (including assignment to reddit here: https://www.reddit.com/r/mac/comments/53knik/how_to_revert_to_original_os_x_from _yosemite_on /).

    Any tips are appreciated.

You may need to reinstall your current OS, through upgrading to El Capitan might fix it for you.

When you start in OS X Internet Recovery now command-Option-r, click on reinstall OS X OS X Utilities page, it should tell you that it will install what was the origin of the computer operating system. If that doesn't work there might be something wrong with the OS or the hard drive itself.
