Returning to default folder settings

I read a lot of messages about files not to keep their individual settings. Here's how I like to set: first, each of them would be showing small icons, can I customize that a few, like the Windows Contacts details. Now, I'm able to set all (using the folder-> "Reset Folders" options, then customize a folder and use "Apply to folders", etc.), but after a while, those I customize (Details) revert to small icons (I checked "remember each folder view settings).

The good news is, so to speak, that I discovered when they change (or one of the ways). It happens once I used save it under... dialog box. It does this for every program or any type of file, but saving a picture (in IE8 or IrfanView) it guarantees. And I don't even have to click on save, just to open the dialog box is enough to change the parameters of files.

Any ideas would be very appreciated.

You can keep so many settings on individual cases (not all) - most parameters return the folder template when finished (unless you change the model).  Some can be saved with each file "Remember" display settings, but it is just good for the view - which is just a configuration option.  I don't know why "save under" is causing records to zero - which is not supposed to happen.  Maybe if you adjust and save the template (or just change, change back and save) that it will solve the problem.

Here's how to change the default template for a folder: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/70819-windows-explorer-folder-view-settings.html.  Default behavior is to select the model based on the first type of file placed in the folder (you must choose something).  Vista sets the folder type template according to what are the types of files in the window and the settings display window Explorer. This will show how to reset the display settings for the Windows File Explorer, disable Automatic folder Type Discovery (which is I think what you want)and increase the folder display the cache to make Vista do not forget the display settings, the folder type template, the size or the position of a specific window for when it was still closed to the location of specific path.

It does not work with the Sub record under, Open with, open in a new tab (Internet Explorer), etc... dialog windows of type through the good File menu bar item. These don't seem to be able to have their size or their position to recall. For the latter, you can use the free program http://autosizer.en.softonic.com/ to resize them.

Here is another article on how to modify the columns in Windows Explorer and sort in Vista: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/108665-column-customize.html.  This will show you how Add, Remove, move, change the widthand change the sort order of the columns in Windows Explorer in the way that you want.

Here is another article on how to change the display of the default folders in Vista (but she argues, it is not a perfect solution and can revert to the previous behavior is not as good as the two prior links provided: http://news.cnet.com/8301-13880_3-10019957-68.html.)

I hope this helps in your situation.

Good luck!

  • Remember ' sort by ' folder settings in win 7

Windows 7 Explorer is not to remember the folder settings. Whenever I click on a folder and return my ' sort by ' is replaced in alphabetical order by default. It is very annoying because I have to go through several steps to cget to sort by "update" whenever I click on a folder. is there a workaround this?

Looks like you access your files through libraries.  This behavior is what they are supposed to do.  I also used to find embarrassing, so I stopped to use libraries.

Access your files via C:\Users\YourUserName\ instead, and then any changes made to an individual folder is saved to this folder.

  • I keep trying to change my cookies setting, but as soon as I close out, he return to the previous settings. How can I fix this so that making the changes will stay?

I followed the instructions to change my settings of cookies, but whenever I click on OK and close out he returns to previous setting recall the story. How can I fix this so that the parameters iI choose will stay?

    That's ok.

Firefox shows that the 'use the settings customized for history' if at least a history and cookie setting is not the default to make you aware that the changes have been made.

If all the history settings are the defaults, the custom settings are hidden and see you "conservation rules: (never) don't forget history."

"Never remember history" means that private browsing is active and "Always use private browsing mode" Gets a check mark.

The default cookie settings mean that all cookies are enabled.

Have you checked exceptions to make sure you aren't blocking cookies?

  • Contact folder settings change Z10 blackBerry does not stick

I have a z10 connected to exchange 2013 via activesync.  Randomly, my selections "edit contacts folder settings" gets delivered to all contacts folders.  I also noticed when this happens that my contacts are all gone, and I have to disable/re-enable contacts sycn to retrieve them.  What happens on almost every blackberry on our system.  Recently, we migrated from groupwise to Exchange...  So this is a new installation of exchange, and perhaps're missing us a setting somewhere?

We have also removed any contact folder except the "blackberry" folder we want synchronized, and it also erases random contacts on the phone.

    Everyone fell on this?

It turns out that it's a bug...  They will be be fixing this issue in a future release.  They are making a KB36964 article that will soon be available to the public.

What worked for me is to completely disable the synchronization of contact, and then turn it back on.  The question returned however...

It was also noted that during these synchronization problems the PIM service would eat to the top of the stack and drainign in a few hours.

    Hope this helps someone

  • Closing PDF and return to the folder in Windows 8

In my work, I often have a folder full of PDFs I open one, read it again, close it and proceed to the following. Before, I just clicked once to close the document and I was still in my file. Now it takes me five clicks to get the closed document and return to the folder. All the world has discovered an effective way to do this?

Oh it's a miracle - thanks Adobe Acrobat the default program for opening a PDF instead of Adobe Reader, I can close documents with the little X and am back on the desktop with the file. It is very good.

  • Where is my folder settings?

Hi, I'm trying to copy a set of predefined (.xmp) files in my folder settings so that I can load when you use Camera Raw filter. However, when I browse, the only folders that I seem to have it are these (Adobe, CameraProfiles and LensProfiles). Where is my folder settings?Screen Shot 2015-11-17 at 17.52.28.png

When I try to load Camera Raw presets, the record seems to be there:

    Screen Shot 2015-11-17 at 17.52.48.png

Why can I not see it when I manually navigate to this folder? I all administrator privileges on my machine and have also turned the "show all hidden files" on my Mac with no luck.

    Any ideas?

    You want your user library

(not the root level library of mac os)

    ~/Library/application support/Adobe/CameraRaw/Settings

As on Mac's recent that the library user is hidden by default, an easy way to get there is to click on your desktop, click the Go menu, hold down the Option key and click library.

This should take you to your user library.

Or click on your name in the sidebar of the Finder under Favorites, click on the view menu, click View the Options and then check display the library folder

(then you will still be able to view your user library in the Finder)

To see your user name on the sidebar of the Finder, click on your desktop, click on the Finder menu, click on Preferences and less Sidebar > Favorites, check your user name.

  • To return to the folder

When I'm in a msg, the folder does not appear at the top (it was) and cannot return to the folder without scrolling through all the emails in the upper part, quite tedious. It didn't used to do this - I have to scroll to the left to finally find the folder, in that I want to be.

Stop letting all open tabs after reading a message.
Make it a habit to close the tabs after reading your posts.

To get out of your current situation, right click on one of the tabs and choose close other tabs. Then use the x on the last tab to close it.

Better yet stop opening tabs to read your mail. Turn on the message pane by pressing F8 and read your mail there.

  • Finder keep it open the file even after I change the default folder

I have the problem with the default folder in the finder.

A few months ago, I changed the default folder from the finder to a specific folder. Now, I want to change to the new folder. I already go to finder > Preferences > General > new poster finder window and change the folder, but whenever I click on the finder on the dock for the first time, keep the change back to the old folder. What should I do with this?

    Thank you for the help

    HI there Alia80,

Looks like you set your Finder preferences to open a specific folder when you open a new window, but it seems to keep coming back to what it was previously set to. I would first start safe mode and if some system-level caches can be erased, and a check disk and repair is done automatically:

Try safe mode if your Mac does not end commissioning

Follow these steps to start in safe mode.

    1. Start or restart your Mac.
    2. As soon as you hear the startup tone, hold down the SHIFT key.
    3. Release the SHIFT key when you see the logo Apple appears on the screen.

After the Apple logo appears, this may take longer than usual to reach the login screen or your office. This is because your Mac performs a check of directory of your drive to boot in safe mode.

To leave safe mode, restart your computer without pressing any keys during startup.

Once you log in safe mode, let him by making a normal restart and test the issue again.

If it persists after this test this point in a new admin on your computerand user let me know what is happening there:

OS X El Capitan: set up users on your Mac.

Thank you for using communities of Apple Support.

  • Why MS never decided that the default folder options / "Hide extensions of known file types" should be active?

original title: a Question about the names of file/folder options

I have a generic question that apply for all recent versions of Windows.

Why MS never decided that the default folder options / "hide known file extensions.

    types of files"should be active?

If file extensions invisible brings no end of confusion to anyone trying to resolve anything.

The first thing I advise in various forums troubleshooting

must * allow * file extensions.  That is so my question - why MS never chosen

Let them invisible by default?  It seems a strange decision - and cause no end of

    confusion.

Because there are a few users who would be accidentally when trying to rename a file change or remove the extension and in doing so the file would not open.  If this post answers your question, click mark as answer .

  • Change the default folder of audio books

I like my Clip + SanDisk.  However, I use it exclusively for listening to audio books, and it is painful to have to use the Advanced setting every time I have download a book to put the book in the audio books folder.  How can I change the default folder of "Music" of "audio books"?

Or, simply drag and drop to a new location for files/folders.  I love old technology - it works, often easily.
