RHEL download vCloud Director 5.1

Hello

I have not found a way to download RHEL 5 or 6 of redhat.com. In fact, the "oldest" published version is RHEL 7.1, but this version is not supported according to vcd_512_install.pdf.

For the laboratory, I downloaded the 5.1.1 - .ova.

What is the installation path that is supported for production?

Daniel

You can register for a RedHat account and download the product for free. You only need to pay in order to obtain support and fixes to work.

You can run it on CentOS as well, but it is not supported by VMware.

  • Error "operations is not supported on the object." when importing .ovf in the vCloud Director 5.5 machine

I am trying to import a virtual machine (composed of three .mf, hard, .ovf files), when I try to download the VM, it gets downloaded 100% in the catalogs, but gives an error "Cannot create" as condition to the end and when I check the error in detail, it gives me that "operations is not supported on the object.". Checked the Virtaul Center, I get the same error that 'operations is not supported on the object."in the taskbar. Google it a lot but could not find a relevant solution.

Just for the record I have DRS activated in full auto mode and only in the aggressive State.

Can someone help me what I can do to remedy the problem.

There are two parts to the upload.

5.5 download dialog box represents the progression to the record of transfer vCloud Director of the FVO.  The download method is via the integration of Client plug-in (which uses the OVF tool).

If the pop-up window can 100% success, I think that the element of the catalogue shows 50% and tries to download files to vCenter/ESXi as an import job.  If the import job fails, then you need to investigate the newspapers of vCenter/ESXi side for more details.

  • White (gray) vcloud Director portal after installation

    Hi all

I lived the installation guide and saw blog various positions on the vcloud Director 5.1 and all this installation process seems simple enough for me.  The problem is that I keep getting stuck in the same game in all 3 facilities I've tried so far in a test environment.  Whenever I have the installation and try to go for the first time the Installer Wizard url (https://IP-of-vcd-server=http-nic) it just displays a gray screen... no text, no icons, nothing!

I read some posts on this subject and they got never really at the bottom of it in the comments, so I hope that someone, somewhere had this problem too and can point me in the right direction as to what could be the problem?

    I'm under RHEL 6.3 x 64 with firewall disabled, 2 network cards, installed certificates (self-signed) and vcloud Director 5.1.2 - 1068441.

DB is MS SQL 2008 running on a server separate from the DB

I hope someone is able to help

Can you delete and recreate your database?  I know it's a new facility, but it seems that the DB was partially initialized once and then reused with this installation later.

This means that the db, create a new one with the same name and account to connect, re - run the script configure once, and then restart the services.  Please make sure that there is only vCloud Director for installation at the start, as always, we can add cells later via a different set of steps.

The errors are on the decryption of the files, which means that some of the generated ID keys do not seem to correspond to the local operating system files.

  • Cannot create the vCloud Director VDC

    Hi all

Need help with my proof of concept of vCloud implementation Director. running on 5.1 vCloud Director unit. Just to give you an idea, I followed the VMware vCloud Director 5.1 Assessment Guide that we find on the VMware Web site.

Note: My setup does not contane VXLAN although we have the network VLAN supported to improve network performance.  Of the vExpert mentioned to create a dummy VXLAN right in the vCloud Director and I'm not sure how to do this in vCloud Director console. (I noticed a default VXLAN is already created, I understand vCloud 5.1 has this feature is enabled by default)

Installation succeeded in creating the Org VDC failed with error 'cannot create the VDC' found this disabling and re activation will release the Red 'X' I think it's false positive because it shows us that everything is perfect even if we get an error message in the logs ' status: error "and with" details: Internal Server Error' find the home images below.

" In any case when it comes to download media after having created the catalogue for Org VDC we get the error message cannot complete the operation because the current organization VDC"Demo-Org-VDC"is disabled or is not ready '.

I also noticed that we get an error message on vcenter Server vcloud (cell) cannot create the folder name already exists check the last my vcenter Server error message.

also attached the logs in the images below.

I found two post, which there is not yet of resolution and the other said its solved but does not have the fix.

Any help to point me in the right direction will be appreciated.

I will be happy to provide you with newspapers if necessary.

    Thank you

    Ibrahim

I was not talking about data warehouses.  I refer to the view in the vSphere Client.

Open the vSphere Client... and go to the computers view models and virtual (c# = Home button at the top, then models and virtual computers)

In this perspective, there is a number of record Blue icons. Make sure that none have the same name as you describe.

This is directly related to the error message in the client image vSphere that you took in the original post "cannot create folder. "PNG"

vCloud produces an error because of something that happens in vCenter.

  • vCloud Director 5.1 install OS Question

Can I use CentOS instead of Red Hat as the operating system for vCloud Director install?  If yes what the game (if any) would be if I needed VMware support (they even would support me)?

    Thank you for your time.

    Sean

There is nothing prevents you to install it on CentOS.  During the installation you will be told that you are using an unsupported operating system.

All the problems that would arise from the use of CentOS instead of RHEL is not support.  We must do better to ensure that it is not a question of use/code, as well a reasonable given the suspicion that the OS is really at fault.

Strictly speaking, being an employee of VMware, I can't close my eyes go against the recommendations of the platform supported.

However, in more recent versions, I have not personally seen problems directly related to the operating system.  vCloud is a java-based application and is associated with a specific version of Java that is provided by the installer.  If we use even the system version of Java to create the gap.

too long, didn't read = you can, but shouldn't.

  • Where can I find the package libXdmcp vCloud Director 5.1 RPM installation?

    Hi all

I have installed my first vCloud Director and am not a Linux
Guy at all. In any case my RedHat 6 operating system does not include the RPM libXdmcp

but none of them does not seem to fix the problem. vCloud Director always told me
the package is not installed. I think that am downloading and incorrect installation
RPM. Can someone please point me to a URL where I can download the right file?
I went to many Web pages with hundreds of links to libXdmcp

  • vCloud Director agent 1.5 and 5.0 ESX install

So I was stuck on this problem all day. I have install a LABORATORY VC, vCloud Director on ANY 1.5 and imported the vShield device. 2 guests can see both the same two LUN 1 TB. In VC is all looks good, but the question is now, I cannot prepare my 2 hosts. I have rebuilt the 4 times each. Both hosts are in an active cluster with DRS. I get the following error in vCloud Director:

    "Cannot prepare host."

Failure occurred during the preparation of the host 'esxi2 '.
    -esxi2
    -esxi2

I tried to force a manual installation:

    / var/log # esxcli software install--force d /opt/vmware/vcloudagent-1.5.0-453916.zip vib
    Result of the installation
    Message: The Operation completed successfully.

    VIBs deleted:
    VIBs ignored:

But then goes to vCD, it is not ready... I tried everything I can think of.

Logfiles which I need to sift through on the host to submit more information about why the TI of fails?

    Thank you!

even if you manually install the VIB, you always run the step 'prepare' vcloud Director.  VIB itself is just a module, and it will be not configured correctly until you run the action to prepare vcloud.

Please make sure you have a persistent scratch location, if it was a compact installation.  If you are on an SD card or a USB storage, make sure that it happens soon enough to process the download and install it in a minute or two... or it's a timeout.

either elsewhere newspapers that you would need to look at are the vcloud-container - debug.log (from the time of the State of the error), and perhaps the esx host logs in case there is a Setup error.

  • Can't no hierarchy of vCloud Director

    Hi all

I have configure vCenter Chargeback 1.6 (1.6.0.0 - 351155) and vCloud Director 1.01 (1.0.1 - 356485), two of them are the last version that I downloaded from the vmware Web site.

I installed vCloud Director Collector but Chargeback cannot load the vCloud Director organization hierarchies.

Is there anyone, who successfully of Chargeback configuration with vCloud Director?

I have attached the log file of vCloud datacollector.

    Thank you

Can you try a connection in the chargeback database or database vCloud by using a client?

The log shows, connect to the oracle database is not set because of the limited number of connections.

Might help, check out this link--> http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=898395.

    In short:

    Select * from v$ session;
ALTER SYSTEM SET PROCESSES = 500 SCOPE IS SPFILE;.
ALTER SYSTEM SET SESSIONS IS 500 SCOPE = SPFILE;.

This should be, but to be able to connect as sysdba or system, you must restart the listener, only if you are not able to connect.

Make sure you are able to connect to a database using sqlplus or sqldeveloper clients, and then restart the data collector.

  • The transfer server storage shared for vcloud Director cells

    Hello

I'm building a cluster of vCloud Director (3 guests) in our environment, but I was wondering about transfer server shared storage that is required for downloads and uploads the data among all cells, here is that excerpts from the Director Cloud installation guide for the same

    ==============================================================================================================

To provide temporary storage for uploads and downloads, shared storage must be accessible to all hosts in a cluster of clouds Director. The amount of storage to transfer server must have permissions writable by root. Each host must ride this storage $VCLOUD_HOME

/ Data/Transfer (in general transfer/opt/vmware/cloud-director/data/transfer). Uploads and downloads are the storage for a short time (a few hours a day), but because the transferred images can be large, allocate at least several hundred gigabytes at this volume.

    =============================================================================================================

I have some questions related to this,

    1. can I use storage iSCSI for this "shared forwarding server storage" or only a NFS storage will do.

2 storage is recommended according to the prospective of VMware.

    3. If anyone has references to the configuration for this storage documentation, please let me know.

    Thank you

    Keryan

It is not explicitly stated above all because there are several options and alternatives.

NFS is by far the easiest and also the easiest to wear but CIFS, for example, would work.  Like any other technique of file-sharing system that makes the blob of data readable and accessible in writing of all cells at the same time.

iSCSI is not enough to really say yes or no to the subject.  If you have a shared several cells and do iscsi lun on it ext3 file system, then the cells will tear system metadata of file into pieces in a relatively short deadline, because ext3fs is not designed to be multi-homed.

This isn't a limitation of iSCSI, or a lun SAN, or tours with virtual machines to share the same file several VMS vmdk, is put on top of this file system.

  • MCAK for vCloud Director 5.1

    Hello

We use the most recent MultiCloud since vCloud Director but now look at upgrading to vCenter vCloud Director 5.1.

I had seen a mention of help soon with version 5.1 of vCD, but did not see if it is available, or in what version it will be.

Would you be able to give an indication of support for this version, please?

    Kind regards

    Paul

You should have no problem with the latest version of MCAK vCloud Director 5.1. All the features of the IAC has been verified. What is not yet supported is 5.1 VCD API, so you would not be able to take advantage of the new features of the product/API with the adapter IN VCD (although you can always write your own custom using HTTP requests process to call the new REST API directly).

  • What is the smallest model of VAPP available that can be used with vCloud Director?

    Hi all

I was on the hunt to find the smallest operating system which can be used for demonstration purposes.

I want to be able to quickly create vApps so a small footprint would be ideal.

    What guys do you use?

I found this customization for operating system support invited into vCloud Director 5.5 (2058524) | VMware KB

I always look for a 'micro' distribution that supports customization of comments.

    What is the smallest available?

  • VMware vCloud Director with the NSX Manager installation process.

    Hello world

I recently planned to deploy VMware vCloud Director (so NSX Manager will be deployed, as part of the process) on an existing environment (existing virtual machines running, virtual switches,...).

Customers use their virtual machines because they are in production.

I was wondering if the deployment / installation of NSX Manager would cause no downtime or disturb the workflows running or even break the VM interconnections?

    Thanks in advance,

    Lawrence B.

I looked at many tutorials, and indeed nothing should happen so that deploy a controller or something else. My concerns were about this "else", as the virtual switches and so on. I guess that the NSX will show existing resources such as the existing virtual switches (and so forth) already configured with vCenter?

What vCloud Director does is interact with NSX via API.  Calls are exclusive to VXLAN (vdnscope-# resources in the API) and demand to deploy or update an edge.  vCD is not 'show' resources discovered by NSX.  You configure NSX and vCD makes an API call and said ' I want a Board connected to the port groups A and B "or"I want a new vWire of this VXLAN instance.

Is there a document with the "best practices" for the deployment of vCD?

Yes: VMware vCloud Architecture Toolkit: Cloud Computing reference Architecture | United States

The meddle with existing resources, must have dedicated resources for the vCD vendor (aka the cluster in vCenter).  It is better to have that then using a pool of resources to a cluster where neighbour noisy problems can arise.  vCAT above might exceed a lot of that when you read it.

    3. anyone know if vRO works closely with vCloud Director 5.6? I found 5.5.1.2 plugin, but using this plugin, I can not connect to vCD (in vCO 5.5.2 I have no problem).

    Hello

    (1) Yes, plugin configuration is workflow (this is the approach recommended new plug-ins; the old configuration of Web UI is deprecated and will be removed at some point).

    (2) only the SSO mode is supported; LDAP won't work. Note that the UNIQUE authentication token is acquired in the name of the user logged in vSphere client to Web, so you must make sure that this user has enough permissions to connect to vRO.

    (3) it should be newer versions of this plugin, and compatibility matrix showing which plugin version is compatible with given the vCD. Don't know where it is, however.
