Rollercoaster tycoon 2 "failed to initialize graphics system' on Windows 8

Hello

I recently bought a new computer that has Windows 8. I installed Rollercoaster tycoon 2 very well, but when I try to run the game I get a message saying "could not initialize graphics system." I looked at various websites and tried different ways to get the game to run, such as the running in compatibility mode (the game worked fine on Windows 7), reducing the 8 bit 256 colors and decreasing the resolution up to 640 x 480 game. Unfortunately, none of them have made a difference, and I still get the same message every time I try to run the game. Any help or advice on this subject would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much.

Well, I just had the same problem, but it was fixed for me when I ran it in Compatibility Mode for Windows 7. As it was not compatible for Windows 8, I just tried every version in turn.

If Windows 7 CM still does not work, I suggest to try Vista or XP as well.

I have also don't work in reduced color or resolution, then maybe it will also stop work?

In any case, I decided to install AOEII today. After installing it, I have updated to 2. 0, then I tried to run. It crashed with an error starting with «can't initialize graphics system...» ", with nothing very useful after that. Nothing in the case where the viewer will appear, I have no choice but to click on ok and close the game. This happens right after that it looks like my CRT resolution changes and before the video intro begins.

I have Windows XP Home Edition SP3, with a nvidia Geforce FX 5500 w / 128 MB of memory onboard (1 GB system). For my graphics card drivers are updated to 175,19, and I just tried to update Direct X end-user running, nothing new in this field.

If anyone can help, that would be great. (Also, to save us from evil, I already ran DirectDraw diagnosis, but also completely remove and then reinstall my graphic drivers.)

PS is it just me or there's a lot of people having problems with this game?

It seems that the installation and launch of the expansion rather than the basic game pack seems to work.

Tried solutions: change the compatibility and as an administrator, switching to 16-bit color, turn off my graphics card, execution of the extension "nostartup" of the game, looking for old patches from Microsoft (which most are now unavailable due to the game being so old). I KNOW that others have been able to get this game to work on the Windows 7 operating system, but with a few other quirks and I KNOW my video card and driver are more than capable of handling this game. I had the above problem with AOEII:Age of the Kings. My brief spec is Windows 7 Ultimate edition (SP1) and a card nVidia 8600 GT. I did the following (make sure you reboot after each installation):

Make sure that you are running the latest patch of AOEII:AOK (2. 0 a):

    http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?ID=35

Download and install the latest version of DirectX:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?ID=5264

Download and install the latest nVidia Driver suite. I left the autodetect my card software and reset all my default settings. I also installed the full software suite:

    http://www.nvidia.com/download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

Finally, right click on the shortcut of AOE and click Properties. Click on the Compatibility tab and select the following:

-Run this program in compatibility mode - choose Windows XP Service Pack 2 (!) NOT 3!)
    -Disable visual themes
-Disable the Composition of the Bureau
-Run this program as an administrator

One of the above options maybe work on its own, but that's what I had to do to make it work and I tested it after each step.

    Good luck!

    Hello

try to make the CD/DVD drive in the boot order 1

And make sure you only set the CD/DVD drive to be 1st in the boot order to boot from the disk

to boot from the dvd drive to be able to you will see a way to get into the bios Setup at the bottom of the screen or command menu start

It would be F2 or delete etc to enter the BIOS or F12 etc. for the start menu

Change boot order it do dvd drive 1st in the boot order

Since the upgrade to Windows 7, I had nothing else that problems of compatibility with almost all games a have for my PC.
None of the Sims 2 games work, and now I've discovered after spending nearly $30 on Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 Platinum it is also incompatible with Windows 7.
Before I bought it, I checked with Microsoft Compatibility and it claims that it would be compatible with my Windows 7 64 bit. Well this isn't.
    It installed fine but when I try to play it, it crashed before even loading to the main screen and I get a pop up saying;
"Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 has stopped working" then told me that it is looking for a solution to the problem that I have never.

I tried to run under each compatibility mode on my system, and it still does not work. Same thing happens even when I try and run as administrator. This is becoming very frustrating and I'm losing patience.

I read other messages from people in this regard and it seems that the question is never resolved. Never.

  • Error Windows XP Mode: "device failed to initialize for mode video full screen.»

When I try to run an old MS-DOS application in Windows XP Mode, I get the following error in the system under MS-DOS 16-bit: "the device video failed to initialize for mode full screen.» I use Windows 7 Ultimate x 64 edition.

The program starts in mode text very well, but when he tries to enter graphics mode, the error message described above results.

It would seem that the emulation of the video driver in Windows XP Mode isn't quite complete as far as emulation goes. The application is an old one that was written in Borland Pascal 7.0 and used the BGI graphics programming interface. There is no equivalent version of Windows, and I would like to be able to run under Windows 7. He ran under a native install of Windows XP Pro, switch mode full-screen graphic as needed without any problem.

Is there something that can be done to make it work under Windows XP Mode in Windows 7? The emulator of map graphics of virtual machines may be adjusted/changed somehow to run full-screen graphic mode?

I had the same problem too, so instead of using the windows mode I downloaded dosbox and the programmaX interface. It's great for running applications in DOS on windows (all versions as far as I know.)

    www.dosbox.com

its pretty easy to install just choose a directory to install to. Then to install the interface you simply point to the directory where you installed dosbox. When you start the interface (programmaX), there will be a button to the top of the upper part called Assistant. Just click on the wizard button and follow the pages. If you want to create an icon for it in windows just goto tools... create a shortcut, and then click ok when the box is in place. ;)

Best of all, its all to is free with the exception of pay for you're internet usage.
