"Rolling upgrade" method is applicable to the single instance of database?

Hello

I did a google search, but all the documents I found refer to the deployment of upgrade for JRC and DG Environment. Rolling upgrade can be used to upgrade, say Oracle 10.2.0.4 to 10.2.0.5? Or in general, the method "rolling upgrade" applicable to database specific environments? If Yes, could someone post a URL? I want to learn this in order to minimize downtime for upgrades of database.

Thanks in advance!

As far as I KNOW, rolling upgrade applies only to CARS or DG scenarios. It does not apply to single autonomous databases.

  • Running the Single Instance and RAC on the same server of different homes.

    Hi guys,.

I already have 4 node RAC12c installed on OLE 6.

I'm planing on some of my other 12 single instance databases on other migration for RAC nodes.

Please correct me here if I am wrong...

My understanding is that, to be able to use DBCA or rconfig for conversion of database instance RAC, the only instance and RAC cluster must run on the same server or machine node.

Thanks to this understanding... Am planing on the installation of a binary single instance on one of my cluster node node1 say and then use RMAN to duplicate the single instance or just an RMAN restore from the node of the instance that is unique to this node1. Am capable of this plan must then use DBCA or rconfig to convert the CARS database.

Now, my question is can I run a single instance and RAC on the same server for different homes with different database ports?

    2. for these unique instance that runs on the server RAC 1 node, can I use the RAC database listener that runs from the House of the grid or I have to create another auditor?

Thank you in advance and also let me know if I can use DBCA or rconfig when the only instance and rac database are on separate nodes.

    K

Fix. And that's what I would normally do. In general, I would have just an ORACLE_HOME directory that can be used by the punctual and RAC databases at the same time.

    See you soon,.

  • Primary database is RAC and physical intelligence is the single instance

    Hi all

I use Oracle RAC 11.2.0.3 as primary database, we will begin to use the Oracle Data Guard.
I am designing my infrastructure and planing to use single instance Oracle 11.2.0.3 my stand physical database.

My question is it possible to have my sleep as single instance database while the primary is RAC?
is it possible to build my Oracle database single instance ensures from the primary database to the RAC, RMAN backup?
Are there restrictions (or all of the points to consider) as my primary database is CARS while the physics of Eve is the only Oracle instance?

    in the link below
    [http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28294/concepts.htm#i1039416]
It was mentioned that primary can be CARS or simple and even the day before, but my question is possible to have primary as CARS all on standby as single instance? or it should be like each other?
The primary database can be either a single-instance Oracle database or an Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) database.
Similar to a primary database, a standby database can be either a single-instance Oracle database or an Oracle RAC database.

  • Protect the single instance Oracle 11 g 2 with Clusterware linux No 11 GR 2 RAC

    Hi all

I saw this link, but he mentions CARS as a solution:

Use of Oracle Clusterware to protect a single Instance Oracle Database 11g

I have seen various articles on protection one instance with cold recovery using clusterware, but they mention the scripts and the old versions of Clusterware. I'm trying to figure if possible to incorporate the virtual IP / scanning of listeners or if it is still a supported configuration...

I implemented the 11 GR 2 using OCFS2 clusterware. Basically I just want cold failover from one node to another, and I don't want to buy a CAR license...

    Thank you very much

Published by: vcovco on Sep 30, 2010 13:52

    Hi Vcovco,

You must understand, that a VIP (host) works correctly for Oracle in conjunction with a listener to listen on the virtual IP address.
Now, if a VIP (host) fails over to another node, the local listener won't. So even if you can ping the VIP no client can make connections. This VIP, since there is no listener listening on this VIP on the foreign host. (But the client will get a denunciation pronto to browse more through his address list).
However, SCAN VIPs work differently, because they have an earpiece connected to them, which will also fail over to another node. This is why permits be accepted, if current running on the other node (as the listener moves with the SWEEP VIP).

That is why in the past, you had to create a VIP 'user' and a 'user' listener, that there will be a changeover of the two (not like the Oracle of VIP welcome). A VIP SCAN done exactly that, it is not necessary for a 'user' VIP and the listener (However it still work!).

a.) every DBA should make backups using RMAN in the meantime...
    (b) there is also a copy of asmcd command

With regard to the advantages over OCFS2
    -best performance (almost RAW)
-easier to extend (no need to resize)
-no hot spots if storage is extended, because storage is automatically rebalanced.
    See here: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/asm/db-tuning-guesswork-173710.pdf
    -consolidation easier
    To name a few.

    Another thing no one mentions:
With OCFS2, you have a second clusterware running on the server. OCFS2 has its own mechanism of fencing.
We must therefore consider some things more 'correlate' fencing OCFS2 and fencing OCW. Not that differently, they decide on what node restart.

So my advice is: keep it simple. Use only the 1 clusterware.

And last but not least: ASM now has a system of files ACFS

  • Parameters for the single instance of DCOM for multiple users on the same machine

I have a DCOM on a Windows 2008 R2, Enterprise Edition machine. I would like to be able to open an instance of the DCOM and have it accessible by multiple users on the same machine, i.e. users connected to Windows accounts.

What settings will do? In the tab 'identity' in dcomconfg for my DCOM object settings, I tried "interactive user", 'the user running' and 'this user', all three lead to the same result: start a new instance DCOM on easch Windows of the connected customer accounts, despite the existence of bodies being already running on other accounts. This baffles me, especially with the third alternative, 'this user', which should certainly lead to all proceedings being started by this specific account? This is not the case. Any help would be appreciated!

    Hello

Rupture can occur in any level

    1 oracle FailSafe with SAN?

--> Do check if you have failure in storage, your security will do nothing to bring back data

--> Seen failsafe, will be only the insurance when MS cluster moving the disc and services to different node, configured services starts.

    2. What is the security integrated on linux centos/oel solution?

--> Under linux, you need to set the scripts to run, and you can check the option on the cluster OS

    3. If the storage is on the San (for example) then it is possible to configure a shell script that detects if data source is down for 5 minutes, mount SAN stored the files of database on the remote computer and

  • HTTP session and app spring within the single instance of tcServer can connect to separate the GemFire instances?

In a JVM tcServer, we use the session HTTP GemFire module and also have our own spring application using GemFire.

Is it valid for the session module to connect to an instance of GemFire via cache.xml and have the Spring application context to connect to an instance of completely separate GemFire (different benchmarks & cache server)?

To do this, you must ensure that the use of the application of your spring Gemfire is isolated from the session management. Essentially, all you need is to group the jar with your application of spring gemfire. Chargers classes separate webapp then takes care of separation Gemfire contexts.

  • Upgrade or install fresh to 11g RAC 10 GB Single Instance base data?

What are the benefits of taking a server Oracle 10 g clone and carry it to the node two ORACLE RAC?

I think I could do the following:
    1. install and configure Oracle Clusterware
    2. install and configure the software database only
    3. get a database of clone of 10 g (database file, init.ora, trace controlfile.
    4. apply the database 10 g of Clone on the Oracle RAC 11 g database waiting it to be accessible from both nodes

    The other Option
    1. install the Oracle 10 g database software in the new environment
    2. get a clone of 10 g production database and apply to the new development environment
    3. install the software of database 11 g only
    4. turn to level 10 g single instance of database 11 g single instance
    5. install and configure the cluster 11 g clusterware
    6 move the single instance of 11 g to 11 g RAC

When it is maybe a good idea to add DSO for this implementation? Your ideas are appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello
If you have 3 business applications, so it is good to have 3 diff for all 3 applications services it will however help only if you have multi RAC node where you have the flexibility to define the services running on specific nodes so now two node RAC, it will not be very different.

That your goal is both fault-tolerance, I suggest you create a service with a favorite and one available to get load balancing server side, select also load_balance = yes and failover_on on the entry of TNS to switch client-side client-side.

I hope you know for failover, only queries select are get toggled if method = select. DML is not supported for failover and you have to manage with DML failover demand only.

Please check my blog for more details on the RAC load balancing, failover and services below.

  • 10.2.0.4 patch on the database ensure single instance

    Hi all

We have a production base 10.2.0.3 running with CARS having 2 nodes on Solaris 10. We have fixed this
databases for 10.2.0.4 (two nodes) on production without any problem.

We have a database of physical standby (10.2.0.3) with 2 nodes on solaris 10. But we stopped node2 sometimes
back and currently is a database of pending of the single instance. New whe trying to apply the patch to frame watch
It shows that the two nodes during installation and the installation fails when he tries to look for node2.

What is the solution for this problem? Any document on how patch on the day before the only instance of database when
the production runs in the CARS.

I think you're basically saying that you have a 2 RAC cluster with node 1 down (possibly permanently) and you want to just patch 1 nodes?

It's not too surprising the installer is by train to connect the other node when in your inventory is you have a 2 cluster nodes.

Have you tried to run the installer with the option - local?

This should just patch your local node. Of course the dictionary changes will be applied through MRP from the primary database.

  • Regarding the installation of a single instance with ASM in AIX

    Hello
I try to install a single instance with the help of ASM in AIX. I made the requirements for drives prior to installation.
I'm running Universal Installer and I choose the option of database to create.
During the stage of creation of the database, there is a page to choose the types of storage.
I choose the DSO and then click Next.
Caution is open and he tell ASM must CSS and it gives the following to run.
    reset of the/Home/App/tuba2/prod / 10 GR 2/bin/localconfig.

I run but my CSS is not started and it gives the following.
    # localconfig reset
    Successfully accumulated necessary OCR keys.
Creating OCR keys for the user 'root', privgrp 'system '...
    Successful operation.
Configuration for local CSS has been initialized
Stale demon CSS is running... kill now
    Adding inittab
Startup will be queued to init within 30 seconds.
Checking the status of the new Oracle init process...
Expected CRS demons to be in place within 600 seconds.
Abandon: Oracle CSS stack seems to NOT be running.
Oracle CSS service would not start as installed
Automatic storage management (ASM) cannot be used until the Oracle CSS service is started

How can I solve these problems. I'm new in ASM.
    Is there anyone to help?
Is also the way I was using the single instance of the correct installation with ASM? or there is another way that is more efficient for the installation of the database with ASM?

Technically, there is nothing wrong in what you do. Since your log message, it seems, has already CSS configured on your system and is not in a working state.
I would recommend, reconfiguration of the CSS.

Complete the following as root user.

    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/localconfig delete
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/localconfig add
    CD /etc/init.d
    . /init. CSSD run &
    crsctl check crs
And you can check the logs for more from diagnosis to the suite.

    $ORACLE_HOME/log /<$HOST>/cssd/cssdOUT.log
    $ORACLE_HOME/log /<$HOST>/cssd/ocssd.log
    / var/log/messages / *.

  • Single Sign-On database

    Hello

Is there a document or compatibility matrix that can provide all the versions and platforms supported for the Single Sign On database?

    Thank you!

    Hello

Well... There is the kind of logical conclusion we can draw from the installation guide , if you look on the pages of the requirements.

    Page 328 reads as follows:

Type of database (for an existing database).
Version support for Microsoft SQL, Oracle, or IBM DB2. See the
    VMware product interoperability matrices to
    PHP? for versions supported.

And there is this KB: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2034918

    Who says:

What are the requirements of compatibility for SSO?

Compatibility for UNIQUE authentication requirements are the same as those of vCenter Server.

And the fact that the compatibility matrix does not have a separate for the SSO entry is also an indicator, if SSO would require separate DB information or requirements, they would normally update the matrix accordingly.

    I hope this helps

  • Configuring multiple services in a single instance database

    Dear all,

I would like to create names from multiple services for a single instance oracle database (10.2.0.3 on IBM - AIX 6.1). I tried to search on the net, read the documentation, as well as on the metalink but couldn't find something relevant to the single instance database.

Say I have two users, userA and UserB, for which I would like to use the two services (ServA and ServB) to connect to the same database to single instance.

Any help in this direction is appreciated.

    Concerning

ALTER system set service_name = 'ServA, ServB. '

in your tnsnames.ora to designate either service_name = "ServA" or service_name = 'ServB.

It is very difficult to believe that you can't find this in the documentation, and my suspicion is that you it didn't look at all.

  • Rolling upgrade: questions of the layman

    DB version: 11.1.0.7, 11.2
    Platform: Solaris 5.10

We have a 2 RAC node and and we have to patch the CRS. We wanted to know if this is possible without knock down DB. So, when I google, I got different links on the upgrades. What is a spread in simple terms upgrade?

A rolling upgrade is an upgrade when you upgrade one node of a cluster, then another, then another until the entire system is updated, but without ever picking up the whole system. It is not a term specific CARS, but you usually need some kind of structure of multiple node for the term "rolling upgrade" to make sense.
