Rounding to a desired number of significant digits

I have a set of calculated results I need to round to two significant figures.  The rounding rules that I need to use are 5 and above towers upward and below 5 laps down (I do not take into account or not the digit preceding the 5 is odd or even).  For example, I would need round etc. 0.04255 to 0.043 and 0.0255813953 to 0.026.  What is the best way to do it?

Round (a, 3)

  • JavaScript to three significant digits rounded

    I found a JavaScript that I would use for rounding significant figures on a field:

    function sigFigs (n, GIS) {}

    mult var = Math.pow (10,

    GIS - Math.floor (Math.log (n) / Math.LN10)-1);

    return Math.round(n * mult) / mult.

    }

    In the properties of the field, as a custom calculation Script, I added the JavaScript code, but it doesn't seem to work.

    Any advice you can give me on what I am doing wrong would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

    Natalie

    A function simply sets a block or a code to run, but does not run, or run the code. To run the code, you must call the function. Since it is a function that could be reused many times in a form I would put this in the document-level script or in the page open for the first page. So, for your example, I would use the custom JavaScript calculation to call the function using the value of the field (event.value) and the number of significant digits.

    Event.Value = sigFigs (event.value, 3);

  • scope and read the significant digits vi

    Hi all

    Let me start by giving you some background.

    I'm measuring a RMS (approximately 1.8V) voltage using NOR-Scope read Vi, which works very well, my problem is that I also try to calculate the current RMS within the same Vi, using a known resistance. With the voltage, I have only two significant digits using playback OR-Scope, which gives me too much a rounding error, when it comes to the current problem.

    So my question is this; is there another stock Vi that I could use to increase the number of significant digits to get or is it possible to increase the number of significant digits with the Vi? Other ideas are welcome and thank you for your help.

    I don't know what is this 'NO-Scope reading measure Vi', but how many significant digits you put your indicator (right click, properties)? If this does not help, please contact your VI.

  • How to get to 16 significant digits?

    My forum/google-fu fails me today, and I hope someone might be able to suggest something.

    Basically, I learned to turn the values passed in one currency to another by dividing by a rate of fx. This piece, I can handle it, but the incoming data are to 16 significant digits, and my output should also be in 16 s.f. format.

    Thus, assuming that I have given in the following format:
    with my_tab as (select 22673.333550957921 num from dual union all
                    select 0.0000000038002838659797923 from dual union all
                    select 123456789012345678 from dual)
    select *
    from   my_tab
    What would be the most effective of the borough to 16 significant digits? Obviously, if it were 16 decimal places, it would be easy, I would just use the ROUND function...

    Hello

    Interesting problem!

    The whole part of LOG (10, num) tells you where the first significant digit is (how many decimal places to the left column of the 1).
    So:

    with my_tab as (select 22673.333550957921 num from dual union all
                    select 0.0000000038002838659797923 from dual union all
                    select 123456789012345678 from dual)
    SELECT     TO_CHAR (num)     AS raw_num
    ,     TO_CHAR     ( ROUND     ( num
                   , 15 - FLOOR (LOG (10, num))
                   )
              )     AS cooked_num
    FROM   my_tab;

    product

    RAW_NUM                        COOKED_NUM
    ------------------------------ ------------------------------
    22673.333550957921             22673.33355095792
    .0000000038002838659797923     .000000003800283865979792
    123456789012345678             123456789012345700

    To make handling you want, there is no need to convert to a string.
    To_char is located in the above query only to help see the complete number.

  • Get the number of whole digits in BigDecimal

    How can I get the integer digit of the Bigdecimal object? I tried to implement a logic using the BigDecimal class intValue() method like below
             BigDecimal bigDecimal = new BigDecimal("1234567890.2147483");
            int integerpart = bigDecimal.intValue();
            int digits = integerpart/10;
            int count = 1;
            while(digits != 0) {
                digits = digits/10;
                count++;
            }

            System.out.println("Number of integer digits : " + count);
    But if the value has more then 10-digit intValue() output is incorrect. Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance

    You can use the same approach that you already have, the problem is that int is limited to 9 digits. For this example you might have long used instead. However, a better solution is to use BigInteger

    BigDecimal bigDecimal = new BigDecimal("-12345678901234567890.2147483");
    BigInteger digits = bigDecimal.toBigInteger();
    BigInteger ten = BigInteger.valueOf(10);
    int count = 0;
    do {
        digits = digits.divide(ten);
        count++;
    } while (!digits.equals(BigInteger.ZERO));

    System.out.println("Number of integer digits : " + count);

    prints

    Number of integer digits : 20

    Note: sound is negative and too big for a long time.

  • HP 10bII +: wrong number of displayed digits

    If you want your 10bII + to display two digits for example, and you want to calculate the following: 1.1234 [/] 100 [=]

    You expect the answer displayed to be: 0.01 because you set your 10bII + to display two digits. But in fact the 10bII + poster 0.011.

    But if you calculate for example 1 [/] 3 [=] it displays 0.33 which is correct flare response.

    To double check this behavior, I discovered that my 12 c also expands the numbers displayed, but only if the rounded answer correctly would be 0.00. I discovered that by typing the following: 0.1234 [ENTER] 100 [/]. This gives me on my 12 c 0.001 accordingly. If it it would manage strictly, according to the figures to display, it should have showed 0.00. But it shows me 0.001 rather to remind me that the right answer is not null.

    But if you calculate the same example with the 10bII + (configured to display two digits), it shows you the answer to four digits: 0.0012.

    It's a buggy thing!

    Hello

    This isn't a bug, but rather the way that basically all calculators have dealt with results around 0 for very long. The problem is that when you are close, but not quite 0, these "hidden numbers" can have an impact without the knowledge of the user because they if it were "just 0" so that in reality there is a small, non zero value it. ". In some calculations, this could be quite essential to avoid new mistakes.

    In the scientific calculators, you would see an exponentiated rather as 1E-3 number. Because who is not probably wished for a financial calculator, as you've seen the numbers simply extend out until you can see the non-0 value. This is to help avoid the user wins a misunderstanding that everything worked wonderfully to 0 when there was actually a non-0 value.

    The 10bII + actually uses the convention of "the numbers after the decimal, or if the result is not no rounding to 0, two figures after the first significant digit of the mantissa". Unfortunately, that would open up more questions then he would avoid actually I think. A better description in the user guide probably would have understood this longer explanation, but to my knowledge, you are the only person I've ever seen validation to complain. :-)

    Please keep asking questions. I think you will find that the 10bII + is actually an amazing little machine for a flight to a price. I am also the main person who writes the firmware inside, so I'm certainly happy to discuss anything whatsoever on that you want!

  • Essbase does not calculate number after 10 digits

    It's on version 11.1.2.1, cube Essbase BSO.

    In Essbase data loaded regardless of the number greater than 99,999,999.99, the system starts dropping numbers and rounding. In other words, it seems that Essbase wants to store a maximum of 10 digits, so we start to have problems with the numbers who have 11 or more digits. See below, for example.

    Data loading the data into Essbase
    Account 1 83,613,9500.13 83,613,9500.1
    2 634,269,675.79 634,269,675.7 account

    And of course total wrong, above 2 number total must be 1,470,409,175.92, but he is 1,470,409,175.80 what he does not last 3 & 9 and its ruling 10-digit.

    Please let me know if I need to make changes or I'm missing something.

    This give a try. Make a copy of your plan. Then, lock & load 2 values in question. Do not run the calculations. Export the entire database to a file. Finally, open the file in a text editor and find your values. This should ease your mind on what can store Essbase.

    BTW, I entered your values in base/sample without problem.

  • Rate for the low number of County Digital events

    Hello

    I'm trying to use the example of digital counting examples DAQmx Events.vi to count the pulses of a photon counter.  As long as the light level is high enough, it works very well. But, when the light level is below a threshold, no count is read. I checked that's not because of the photon counter by testing with an independent instrument.

    It seems like it might have something to do with the rate at which counted events are unloaded (PCIe-6321) hardware in the computer, that is, there is a minimum threshold of count indictment before such a transfer of data occurs. I'm voting for the number of levels of every 100ms.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

  • Acrobat is requiring a serial number to 6 figures to open the application. My Acrobat serial number is 24 digits. What 6 figures I'm supposed to get the app to open?

    I can't understand what is happening here.  I installed Acrobat Standard XI a month ago, and I think it started after a software update.  I can not open even without this serial mysterious 6-digit

    Ah, I see where you are coming. It is a bit of "self-help" in Acrobat which I don't particularly like myself.

    Your 24-digit serial number will be written like this 1234-1234-1234-1234-1234-1234-1234

    That you're supposed to do, just start typing. The first 1234 fills the first box, and then "useful" to happen in the second box. You going to keep typing, and it will keep jumping after each four, until the 6 boxes each have four digits. Now, you click Next and the 24 numbers are checked.

    Hello

    You can try adding the following statement in the section custom CSS, column properties:
    "" mso-number-format-@:

    See a preview here:
    http://i53.Tinypic.com/a09kqv.jpg

    This will process the data in the column as a text for download to Excel, conserving spaces beginning or end.

    Allocation of points, it is useful.
